  • I am renovating my lawn. There was too much poa trivialis in the lawn for me. I was not able to take it any longer.
The first step is to kill the existing lawn using a non-selective weed killer. This needs to be done several times in order to get all the bad grasses killed off.

“I see it, & that’s what matters to me.” Reminds me of a few years ago before my dad passed, remodeling his living room, 12 foot high 2 ft wall insert ledge where a statue sits, wasn’t level from before. Everyone said, nobody can see it, they’ll never know. I’ll never forget him saying “But I’ll know.” So he spent a whole day fixing a 1/2 inch drop over 2 ft ledge. Thanks Connor for being like that.

As a certified professional herbicide applicator, when I mix glyphosate I use NI surfactant at a 2% solution rate. Just so you know. I also use defoamer and I always use a dye when spraying total kill as well. When the dye is gone the tank is clean enough to spray selective with again. Cheers.

I would like to renovate significant portions of our back lawn and front lawn next season. Maybe I will renovate the entire thing and it’s important to mention we live in central Minnesota.
I’m pretty sure we have a fair amount of poa triv, I know we have lots of poa a, there is clumping coarse fescue, minimal quackgrass in the back lawn (hate this stuff), and areas what I believe to be bentgrass and creeping red fescue. As you can tell our lawn is a salad bar and I’m hoping to get a more consistent tttf/ kbg lawn but I am also trying to be realistic.
My original plan has been to begin glyphosate starting in July for a Labor Day seeding. There are some areas I plan to level and I may need to glyphosate earlier prior to spreading soil then fallowing that soil for at least a few weeks. I have also read that core aerating and thatching can result in more triv afterward so that leaves me unsure on how to remove dead plant material and prep the ground for good seed to soil contact.
I know this is a lot, but are there any recommendations based purely on the information I’ve given?

The only way to deal with poa is by using pre-emergent. He'll end up with poa again because killing the plant doesn't kill the seeds still in the soil. Getting rid of poa is a 2-3 season problem where you treat the area with pre-emergent in late summer or early fall. Then in the spring, you apply pre-emergent again. Follow that up with another treatment in the fall, and then again the next spring. Since the lawn he just killed was replanted after killing the previous lawn, if a glyphosate treatment was going to work, he wouldn't have poa in the current lawn - but he does because he had carry-over poa seeds - just like he'll have again.

    • @evank2035
      @evank2035 2 роки тому

@@buckhorncortez he'll have POA annua again and again unless he does what you suggest but what he's doing will get rid of the triv at least, which is arguably a bigger problem. Hopefully he starts using fall pre-emergent over the next few years.

Good lord. I just sprayed Gly (41% concentrate) and used the recommended 44oz/acre. You used 1.5x that on 1/5th the area. You're lucky you weren't spraying anything with a residual. You'll be fighting Poa as long as the birds fly and wind blows - if your neighbor has some, you'll get it, not to mention the seed bank in your yard already. Why not look into pre-emerge solutions or plant a grass variety that out competes it? Creeping bent grass seems to stay pretty clean for most golf course greens, as long as they don't over fertilize. You already have the equipment.

I’m battling Poa as well. The problem is the seeds that the plant drops. I did a test and kept a section dead all year and was blow away at how much poa kept returning after completely nuking it. I’m continually killing whatever geminates hoping all the poa will eventually germinate and die before it produces more seed. I’m starting to think a sod cutter would be more affective to remove seeds and the plant. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Can you also just cut out the small patches of poa or is that a losing battle?

So would you rather have your lawn with poa or a crabgrass St Aug lawn?

@@lawnrebel I agree. Better to have a few weeds in the lawn than a lawn that looks like one giant weed! Lol

Would it be better to scalp after all your nuke juice is down and grass is killed. It’s worked better for me if the lead blades are longer to absorb more of the glyphosate

Could regular early overseeding and optimally timed pre-emergent herbicides help to keep the monostrain going?

Could you imagine the mini van LL from your last kill in 19. If saw the lawn now his head would explode!

Sent you a message on a different video.
    Love your content.
If you want to kill your lawn and poa triv, use round up and industrial or cleaning vinegar instead of the recommended amount of water. It will kill everything. You will use way less Round Up.Rinse your sprayer thoroughly afterwards. The vinegar eats sprayers.

What type of seed are you going to throw down? 5-iron?

You’re going big! Kill that poa!! Question for you - are you still using the Panasonic G7 to record you videos? Shot gun mic? Love the Channel!
