The great thing about Carly is that when she's singing, she's totally engrossed in expressing the music and making it as beautiful as possible and she's also embracing the joy of expressing it. And she has a great sense of musical interpretation, so that makes it great. It's about the music with her, it's not about the image as it is with the vast majority with today's new performers.

I'm a huge fan of James, and I have seen him interviewed many times. He never initiates discussion of Carly, but when she is brought up by an interviewer, he will talk about her. And he never has a bad word to say about her. He always speaks of her in a positive way. I don't know them. I don't know their lives, so I have no right to comment on their relationship, or lack of it. But they both seem like good people. My wish for them, is that before one of them dies and the other is left with regrets, that they would find their way back to each other, just to have a conversation and take joy from that.

What a wonderful thing to have stumbled upon this interview.
How beautiful a person she appears to be. It is remarkable that Carly Simon is seriously even more beautiful today, than ever before. I have always considered her a naturally beautiful woman.
    Wonderful stories.
I recall an interview she gave many years ago after James Taylor left them, where it was obvious she was hurt and perhaps not always able to effectively handle the hurt - not just her personal hurt; but if I perceived it correctly, what she experienced seeing her children being hurt.
To hear her speak of JT, and do so with maturity - understanding, forgiveness, appreciation etc...while being frank and straightforward, speaks very well of her.
I gained even more appreciation of her than previously.
God bless her, and her children.

At 17, I heard Carly Simon for the very first time singing "That's the way I always heard it should be" over the radio. It is so coincidental that a reference was made to the great "MacArthur Park" written by Jimmy Webb in this interview, as the poignancy of Richard Harris' rendition of "After all the loves of my life.....I'll be thinking of you and wondering why" still haunts me with the deep love I experienced on immediately falling in love with the exquisite, deep, sad and beatiful image of what my mind had formed of Carly through the deep and honest emotions she expressed in that song.

I've been listening to Carly for almost 50 years and before I saw this video I was listening to "Anticipation" and thinking, I know why this woman is so damn gorgeous. It's her mile wide real smile, and her naked romantic honesty in her music. You listen to her music and you're hearing a real loving human heart that will never give up believing in love. ...and then I heard this interview... and I know it's true.

Carley, what a gem of a lady. Her lyrics fit my soul. Here is an example of a lady who is at home in my most inner self. Carley, has also pulled me through many low times and made my high times richer. Funny thing really, all I can do is to buy her music and to applaud her in a blog like this. Funny thing though, we search for such people. Knowing that this person is one of a kind. Keep up the passion and dont change Carley.

I began to adore Carly S. when I was 14, couldn't understand the text of "You're so vain" as a German but knew what she was singing about by feeling. She is still my star******, nearly 50 years later, she is such an amazing person, so wise and clear and honest - and beautiful-

The definitive retrospective Carly Simon interview for those of us of a certain age! I have followed her throughout her career weaving her music into the fabric of our lives. A pure and honest singer, musician and songwriter coupled with intelligence and incredible beauty! For me from the first time I had seen her perform she was the whole package. Read her book Boys in trees to learn a bit more about her incredible life's journey.

Many men fall in love with very real, honest, talented and educated women...they’ll love her passionately for years and then shit talk her down the road. Not because she ever did anything wrong, but precisely because she didn’t do anything wrong...and because they couldn’t match (in their minds) what she brought to the table. I’ve noticed this trend in her life. Her men either pretend she no longer exists (JT) or they write salacious things in a book. I feel bad because she deserves remembrance. Women like her should not be punished because the men in their pasts were not able to evolve. You can’t punish a woman just because you once loved her.

That's a profound comment and very true. What they once were attracted to, becomes intimidation.
They find you bc you have qualities that they cannot express--and they try and keep up, but inside they are an empty shell..
Then they resent the fact that you are so free with your feelings bc they pretend they have none..bc the feelings they do have are too painful.

Agreed, especially apt regarding CS and James Taylor. But her second husband (who she met in unpromising circumstances, on a train) took every benefit her love, loyalty, wealth and status gave him, while hiding his homosexuality from her. She discovered he was trawling gay dating websites and was heartbroken. That's just a fraudulent shitbag who had no business marrying any woman, least of all the great Carly Simon!

I totally forgot that the second husband came out as gay. I’m just glad she’s had such a longterm, successful relationship with her now-boyfriend. I feel so silly for how much it bothers me (the way men treated her). 😂 I’m actually pretty young, but my mom always played her albums and I was so taken by Carly’s voice and honesty. It was only when I got older that my mom told me how JT did her so dirty...and ever since then, every few years I google her name just to make sure that whoever she’s with is worthy of her. 💁🏻‍♀️

Carly could be a professor of philosophy at any great institution. This interview is so awesome for me. I have thought the same about dreams and wanting to stay in them. I love her voice and how she thinks and speaks. In the way she talks about other people is a lesson to be learned by us all. It is some of the gifts of my life that Carly, James Taylor and Carol King have been in it. I love this interview!

I loved you when I was a teenager as you spoke my truth through your songs like I could not articulate then....and you continue to do so.....year after year ...moment after moment as time ticks on. Thank you for all that you give from the depths of your being.

I’m absolutely convinced that it’s James’ current wife who has the problem. She’s obviously so insecure about her place in his life, that she has to eradicate his past...and Carly is a huge part of his past. He spoke to her after their split for years...then he marries this woman and suddenly he can’t have ANY communication.
