🎸 FREE GUITAR LESSONS BY JAMES 🎸
• Free Guitar Lessons
When I was young, I was in a place called The Harbor School in Amesbury Massachusetts. I was waiting to see a dentist in a small town, I think it was called Newburyport as a group of under-privileged kids rebuilding what was left of our childhood. I heard acoustic guitar and asked if we could go see it.
My adult that was in charge of us at the time said, "That's James Taylor". It stuck with me forever; the sound, the name James Taylor, all of it.
It became a source of calm and comfort when I was alone, broken and scared in my life.
I have bought every "CD" as a kid young adult and into now my middle years (48).
I hope you see this at some point. It was your brother Livingston Taylor. The Residential advisor was wrong.
Thank you, James.
A master indeed of his craft, saw him live in concert- what a thrilling, intimate experience, how glad I am that we've had and still got him in our lives. Wisdom and Love for his family shines through all his songs, James you have many, many friends who love you too. Thank you So very much cheers Peter.
I have loved James Taylor since age 14
I am 64.
I still love James Taylor.
Always will.
God Bless you James Taylor
James Taylor's kind and gentle soul emanates from his music. It's just what we need in this chaotic world. Thank you, James for comforting us with your beautiful music.
and it comes down to this, MY DAD CALLED...MY DAD CAME FOR ME...one word: CARE. For those who had a parent that cared, you are BLESSED. Many of us dont! Taylor is SO clear...simple like his music...amazing man of humility and gentleness...a real man!
Jeff Porcaro Groove true that!!!😰😰
Just saw his livestream with his family up in Montana. I couldn't have been more impressed. Love this man.
Without judgement or doubt that Dad went straight to him and James didn’t doubt that he was there for him and in the most challenging moment…I appreciate too how once he had the same deep understanding he spoke of family addictions & obviously devastated that his brother died because of alcohol, and ultimately his parents separated due to the dad’s issues as well….
"To get out there to connect with other people ! " Nothing left to add to this - for all of us - every day ! Great stuff - Love you James !
James Taylor isn't just a national treasure, he's a treasure to all mankind.
Yes, for sure, he is a treasure to all humankind!
Totally agree!
Was that Joe Kennedy
I think his dad might’ve thought the same
Well put!
I saw him last month at Caesars Palace. I cried so much during his show. There's a feeling you cannot describe in words that comes from being in his presence. He is truly a gift. He's obviously channeling, but the love and compassion that he exudes is really something. On that stage, he's there for that audience, to lift them up and heal them. He is not there for his ego. That's such a rare thing! I've been to many concerts, but none can compare to James Taylor live. At the end of the show he was in the audience taking pictures and signing autographs. He did not have to do that, but that is just who he is. You feel the gratitude he has for his fans, for his gift, and for his life.
Yes.. Thanks for your beautiful understanding about the soul of music is..
Deep love for us souls.
Forever in hearts 💕
It's so Awesome to hear that . I have loved his music since I was 14 and am now 62. I know what you mean about crying . His songs go straight to the heart . It is So True that ( Music is what feelings look like )
Will Always Love Sweet Baby James .....
He has such an awesome connection with the soul. Deep thinking, & thought provoking.
I am a fan of JT since I started playing acoustic guitar at the age of 16 and I eventually became a "folk singer" and it was my profession for the longest time which brought to many countries in Asia , middle east and Africa singing cover songs of james taylor, cat stevens, jim Croce, Paul Simon and of David Gates'. There's always a unique style in the guitar playing of James Taylor and his cool melancholic voice which complimented with his songs that sets him apart. I feel I'm in his world whenever I play and sing his song "you can close your eyes". I am grateful I was born in his era. Finally I had the chance to watch him live in Manila in 1994 and that was a memorable night for me. James Taylor Live , a truly electrifying 90 minutes to watch him play in flesh. Thank you for the music and God bless you James.
I just saw him in Phoenix a week or two ago... he didnt sing Shower the People but did 2 encores. We were kinda disappointed but loved it besides that. The stage settings made me so happy. 🌷 🌷 🌷
Wish he'd forgive himself for abandoning Carly and the kids... they would love to forgive and embrace him going forward. Glad he's found love - but one could always use an old friend... and clearing that karma going forward would be a blessing. Forgiving ourselves is the hardest part. We love and thank you for being you, James.
Thank you for this wonderful sharing of your journey. A pleasure divine
I was at James's first post 9/11 concert in Portland, OR, and it was the most collective and transcendent experience of my life. So grateful to him for getting on a plane just days after that disaster and going on with the show. We needed that. We needed him.
I love him. I love his sincerity. I love his respect for his music and his audience. I love his talent. I love his intelligence. I love James Taylor. (And the first communal experience I had after 9/11 was seeing JT at The Hollywood Bowl. It was magical & healing.)
Came across James Taylor in 1970 have loved his music ever since and am inspired by this revelation of his life. A big heart and big soul and a big talent. The sound of my life. Thank you James Taylor
James Taylor is such a genuinely lovely man. We’re so lucky to live at the same time in history as him.
I 1st saw James Taylor back in the 1980's then in the 90's and again in 2001. What amazed me the most was the crowd. Young, old, Black and White all singing along like they where just sitting on a porch with their best friend. That is what a real artist doses.
I’ve always enjoy James Taylor as a singer/songwriter; but, I have to say that his story of his father’s efforts to help him through a really difficult time were inspiring. And he obviously appreciates and values those efforts.
@Eric Goldstein As busy as Dr. Taylor was, he made time for his son, and saved him. James is fortunate to have such a father!
I’m not sure if he mentions it but there’s a song called “Jump Up Behind Me” from 98 (with Sting no less) that is beautiful.
That was the most loving intuitive act by a great father, knowing that he was in danger, with no second guessing.
what a proud father he must have become
"I am myself, for a living."
What a great opening to a fabulous story.
Thanks Mr. James.
An absolutely amazing man... I grew up listening to James music back in the 60s and seventies , the world was a lot safer and better back then. Even After all this time he still has the same gentle Spirit, it's just like yesteryears of peaceful people and music.!
I don’t know where you lived in the 60s and 70s, but where I lived we practiced going in the hallways, sitting on the floors against the walls and placing our heads between our knees with our hands covering our heads in elementary school. It was to prepare us in the event of a nuclear strike from Russia. Then there was the assassination of JFK, MLK and RFK, not to mention the Vietnam War, and the Civil Rights Movement. “We didn’t start the fire, it was always burning……” Billy Joel. I agree, JT was a balm to the spirit in those days.
Ppp
I hope he lives longer than I do. I don't want to live in a world without James.
Judy Sanders wonderfull thing to say ... yea it would be such a loss x
True...but alternatively we were fortunate enough to be here for all this!

I am a fan of your God given talents. Love u.
I have loved James for 45 years.
James Taylor is a master musician and lyricist...
He can always make me smile through my tears. God bless him!
This musician is love.
His music once heard if you are of alike spirit stays in the heart and mind forever.
Love His Music........That's all.
I always loved James!! ❤
Fire and Rain played so much throughout my childhood years on the radio. It was like a daily prayer. Also, through my childhood years, I had a best friend, Sandra. I often now wonder how often we were together giggling about something, and that song was playing in the background. I always thought the song was about a romantic breakup, and the broken-hearted, abandoned boyfriend was grieving his loss. Fast forward decades later. My friend Sandra died suddenly in her fifties. I was devastated. Much of her death was caused by self-neglect revolving around her diabetes. She welcomed death after her younger brother's death from ALS the previous year. Months after her passing, I was in the pool, and Fire and Rain started with that beautiful haunting opening line. I flashed back suddenly to the early morning hours when Sandra's cousin let me know she had died. It was one of those inexplicable knowings. I realized James wasn't talking about a breakup, but the death of a loved one. I quickly researched the song and found out about Suzanne. The ending line about seeing her again was how I felt about Sandra. I thought we would always be two little retired old ladies back to giggling and enjoying life. James's music is like a soul riding. It's like an ancient text that suddenly the Spirit reveals to you when you are ready for it. I'd like to meet him someday and tell him this story.
This man has brought me great joy in my life. His art is magical.
What a great Dad! James you are so lucky to have a dad that
went out on a limb for you. It turned your life around and then you went on to bring so much joy to others. And to be the first Apple artist and be part of The Beatles story... a big W O W! Such a beautiful story.
I so love the story about his Dad. We can be, not the means, but the conduit of another's salvation. He's probably alive today because of a father's devotion. Beautiful. A gift to the world.
Why is this causing me to have a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes?! I LOVE you James T! So happy to have seen him in Halifax this past summer! Loved his music since the 70s. What a beautiful human being. So happy drugs didn't take him down. Our world would not be the same without his music!
James Taylor's music is the one constant in my life. Thank goodness! His music is my solace, it lifts my spirit and soothes my soul. For that, I will always be a grateful fan.
What a Beautiful man!
"I always felt as though it was an unconscious process ... that rather than writing the songs, I'm just the first person to hear them." So humble ... I love that :)
What a beautiful way to say it: He wrote it down, but it came from a place far away.
Have been a mega fan, since I was 18 years old. Now...I am 63 years young! JT is incredible...beyond words.
You've been a big deal forever, James.
Me too
Same amount of time here revering what this man puts out. He leaves me wordless when trying to describe his gifts. Just amazing.
Been a fan since 14. I am now 57. Listen to JT daily.
Hi Susan I'm.4 years younger than you and I have no idea where the time has gone, love him also,I have a real hard time grasping the passing of time .
You and your spirit and music still lives in me! I love you, James Taylor ❤ l listen to your heart and music daily. I'm 63 years young.
James Taylor's music make up some of my best memories from childhood. I will always love his music ♥️
He’s never lost that lovely and so beautiful voice
What a beautiful story about his dad coming to get him, brought a few tears I must say
Sure did. Same here.
HI
I think his dad recognised the addictive genetics playing out in his son, and this made him sympathetic,at a time when SOOOO many parents only get JUDGMENTAL!Shalom to us only in Christ Yeshua.
Love this talented kind genuine person and his music
Your music makes me weep Mr. James Taylor. Thank you for sharing your beautiful gift❤️
In the early 90's I saw James Taylor three times walking in the street twice in Soho and once in the upper west side. The last time I said hello James, he waved back smiled and I though, he really made my day.
Edi Gabrelli- What an awesome encounter!
Oops Gabrieli, sorry
Transcendent, as I just heard from Oprah, is the perfect word to describe James Taylor... Thank you for your music! My gratitude to all you have done for all of us with your music, which will last forever.
Mr. James Taylor, I want you to know this... I was sent to buy four tickets for the "Blood Seat and Tears" Indianapolis concert (yep, I'm old). I got to the window and opted for "James Taylor". Yes, I got sneers and yelled at (I'm grinning right now). They 'suffered' through your concert and Not to my amazement they all replied "WOW, great choice". I chose ALL of the concerts going forward. Thank you for being alive and coloring our world...
What a kind, sensitive and gentle man. Addiction is a beast that eats that kind of person alive. Thank God he got through those difficult times.
Never, ever take a benzodiazepine. 40 times more torturous to withdraw from - and deadly.
THX 1138 I've taken most of these drugs, including hard opiates multiple times but thankfully never got addicted to them. The things I got addicted to though were cigarettes and Kratom (opioid)
This was extremely well produced, filmed and presented. Now I get why Oprah's group receives so much acclaim.
Graham Nash said: "Music fills the gap between human beings", that's so true. I love you James, thank you for your music. God bless you and your family.
I have loved James Taylor’s music since I was 16 years old. There hasn’t been a day that has passed when I didn’t listen to at least one of his songs. He brings me peace.
A national treasure!
I love you James Taylor for the songwriter and person that you are :) Thank you for sharing your life with us all and being so open about your journey and learning . God Bless You Always
My mom picked me up on the steps of a hotel at 3 am, she also came by herself to get me. I thanked her for that til the day she died! I really didn’t deserve it. God said mercy rejoices over judgment, it does!
My mom rescued me..when I was 56 years old! I would never ask her for help, because I would have to be honest, and I feared her judgement and criticism and her dissapointement. NONE. I was just her kid. A boy who needed his mommy. If I talked she listened. If I didnt she didnt ask. I'm so glad we became friends. Probably the most important thing that ever happened to me. After that, I finally started to grow up. She turned me on to James Taylor!
Dear James, Thank you so much for all of your beautiful music.
I was in college during his early years always loved his music and still do. Some of the best music ever written
I'm also a big fan of Fogelberg also a wonderful song writer
“ You might have to be lonely to be free....learn how to tolerate a little loneliness.... you’re strong.... you can do it ....” ❤️ thank you
James: if you see this, thank you from a grateful heart.🕊
The very BEST ~ James Taylor!
I just lost my Dad last year and was nice to hear James and his father had a great relationship
you are one of the best musicians of the all time
It would be a dream come true to meet James Taylor in person. He brings tears to my eyes.
I am so happy that I found this. It was extraordinary and so is James Taylor. You are one of a kind Sweet Bay James.
I'm a huge fan. It's a nice example of being in touch with your feelings and being able to articulate it verbally and musically. God Bless James, his family and his rich legacy!
James Taylor: his music is timeless. I'm clean and sober today too. Thank you.
God bless you🦋
Congratulations .you are my HERO.you are the best.
Inspiring. "You have to be a little lonely to be Free" - James Taylor....WoW😀...YES😍 Thank You James Taylor and Oprah❤❤❤
What a great chronicle of James Taylor's life and music; and thank you Opera for this humanizing view of his life and struggles, and his wonderful music that came from it. My life would not be the same without his music, and I still revel in it, and that it still has that deep emotional effect on me as I go back to the early 70's in my early adult life with it. For James' life's good influences, and other bad times that he has overcome-his music means that much more to me now that this has been published. Good for you James-and thank you for your essential and beautiful music that has come out of your struggles and joys. Your guitar playing, lovely voice, and songwriting is so fundamental and long reaching in todays music, that it certainly should be experienced by any generation that will be open to the beauty of it. Thank you for making my life the richer for it, James. You have done very well in your presentation and artistry and I hope you are blessed with good health to keep making music as long as you are able. Bless you for all of us who have been blessed with it! I too was not raised religiously, but your music certainly reaches our souls, no doubt about that! Be well, Barry
And James, thank you for your guidance to others who pursue these arts--I am just a long time guitar player who appreciates that kind of artistry, and who only hopes to come nearer to it before I die.
James Taylor's music has a special quality of making me look and feel deeper into my life. I'm so glad he's still going. I definitely need to watch a concert @ some point. :)
Mr.Taylor I have been a solid loving fan since October 12, 1978. That day as it was my first my parents named me after a song and play you home and from then on. Your music has been in my soul since but even you can see in your eyes the music has always been in you to. I would not be here in this world without you. I'm sorry I cried for most of the concerts as I've seen you twice last in Lincoln very close I ran through my Kleenex but I'm disabled and my blood sugar was so low I had to go fix it I returned to find you signing for very people. I was heart broke as I was told not to take my coveted collection of vinyl sweet baby James with me. I never got it signed so if your ever around here again just call out my name and I'll come running to see you again. PEACE LOVE missy
"I think in order to create, artistic people need to be alone. They need to have time to themselves. Isolation is key. If you have to be lonely in order to be free, learn how to tolerate a little bit of loneliness. It's hard, but you're strong and you can do it." - James Taylor
Mary Vaillancourt ........guitar playing has been a lonely life for me.....see my original music on. UA-cam...
great quote...
Amazing.
Lots of creativity will come out of the lockdown of 2020.

We love you man, you're one of our solid touchstones. I painted a picture of you for my cousin in 1971; she was a huge fan as I was when your first album was released. I loved doing that for her; it was our connection, a bright light for both of us. Thanks for all the great tunes and the ones to come. We need you just like the Beatles, Joni and Carole.
This man, James Taylor has been a musical influence on me for pretty much my entire life. I’m 53 years old, and every time I hear one of his songs, I am taken back to being a younger person, and what was happening when I first heard them.
I could listen to him play and speak endlessly.
What an amazing person. James is true to himself, and true to us. Thank you so much for your incredible and everlasting music, JT!
you got a good break with Peter Asher ... but you had the talent.. oh god.. how you helped me in my life....thank you James Taylor
Very inspirational human being. He helped me get over a similar drug issue, for that I'll be forever grateful. Thanks James!
There is an unsettling eloquence to this telling that seems surreal, and yet, his authenticity is mesmerizing. What an amazing man. Thank you, James.
Well said 👍🏼
Life at its most real is distinctly surreal.
His voice is so soothing.
James Taylor.....is master class.
Has the pleasure of meeting this man. His humility amazing . Saw him in concert he STILL has it. I love him so awesome his talent transcends time, generations and race.
What would we do without you, JT! Enchancing my every day life, since the 60's. Music swirls in and out of all of our souls, connects us, remember whens us. Lifts up. thank you is not ever enough, your strength, your weakness, and the spirit that flows into us, from you, well. There is no measure.
Thank you Father God for James' music. Thank you James for your music.
Wow, I love when he says you need to be who you want your children to be...that was an aha moment!
Abigail That is hit me like a punch in the face, what a beautiful thing to say
Truer words were never spoken
" The secret to life is enjoying the passage of time" words of wisdom
SOOOOO many aha moments for me! WOW!!
Abigail Freckleton yesssss!
James, it looks like you are winning the race of life and doing well for yourself. I started listening to you in the seventies and have adapted your songs to the ups and downs of my life. Thank you for a lifetime of great music and I hope you continue making music.
I just lucked out and got front row center for baby James at Chastain in Atlanta. It was, in his words, transcendent.
You may not play a character, but as a photographer, I see the lines of your face exude character. It is as inspirational as your music.
I’m so glad to watch this special with Oprah! Your voice, music and talent with the guitar have always been the best for me! When I was young and sad , your music touched my soul, I cried. Today I am 61, I’m content and don’t cry much at all . I grew up with you in my life, I believe I had been given comfort and joy. You helped me through some rough times. I’m at peace now with my life
And you are there to comfort me
No matter what my age, thank you
Sweet man James💗💗 Love you
James Taylor is a very kind, gentle human being.
James's soulful music has essentially been a soundtrack for my life. I spent a good potion of my life learning his music because it made me feel so alive. In March of 2001, the love of my life died of cancer. I felt like just curling up and dying! However, I had 14 year old twin sons who had just lost their mother so I stepped away from music I had introduced them to from the day they were born. It took me many years to find my way back to music through encouraging them to learn and play their own music. I returned to learning to play the folk music I loved and was again finding my way. Suddenly in 2017, I had a stroke in my sleep and woke up unable to see properly and unable to remember hoe to play any of my instruments!I took James's advice and threw my energy into trying to exercise and relearn Spanish and French. It has been a great help to regain some control of my body and my mind. I haven't yet regained any mastery of my guitar but have slowly regained my memory of English, Spanish and French. I'm still relearning and I still love folk music but still haven't regained my ability to play. I am grateful for not being paralyzed but my life is changed forever.
Well done , you can do it 🌺
My son is a musician. He's struggled with drugs. He's clean for the moment. This might inspire him. I'm hopeful.
James advice about being "the person you want your children to be", can also works for those who suffer addiction.
"Be the person you have always dreamed of being for your self". It worked for me 32 years sober this May.
Carolyn Kingsley, I do hope that your son is doing well. I have a son (21yrs) and I feel much compassion
My heart goes out to you and your son, Carolyn Kingsley. Hugs!
Will be praying for your son Carolyn, I am sure he will be inspired by James Taylor!
What a beautiful soul~☀️
Wow, this was an absolute gift. Thank you, Oprah
A good man who has become better. Humble without knowing it, a great man.
The true definition of Mr. Taylor
...the way we all should like to be remembered.
David Todd ~ A great and very true statement David.
James is an absolute treasure
@@jodipantis1163 very nice
Wow. I'm so glad I came across this and watched all the way through. I am a wiser person and songwriter for having watched this. Thank you JT and Oprah. Peace.
You are magic! Thank you for sharing yourself with us for so many years xo
James Taylor is my number one influence for 40 years of my own songwriting, and living!
I was born in '61. The sweet strains of James were all throughout my childhood. The first song I learned to play was " Close Your Eyes." I was about 7 when I played it for my dad on one of my yearly visits to see him. My dad- a guitar player and a pediatrician, cried. He was divorced from my mother, and it bonded me to him. I connected with him through music - now I realize this, thanks to James.
So thankful to and for James Taylor-always.
Beautiful rendition to life.....Bless you J.T.
James Taylor is blessed with an unusual voice that conveys his songs in such an amazing way, with his voice being the ideal vehicle to convey the song's message. If I'm switching from channel to channel on my car radio, even if it's a song I've never heard, within 5 seconds I know I'm hearing James Taylor's voice. I stop looking for another channel because his music trigger's a pleasant peaceful feeling in me that no other recording artist can trigger. Long live James Taylor. Mick
I am too a great fan. Back in the days, I was in 3rd grade and living in southern Philippines. In the summer of 1974, My mom , sister and I went on a trip to the big city of manila. then to a7 hour trip to a cool summer capital destination famous for its cool temperature and fresh strawberries Baguio City. My elder brother who lived and worked in the big city of Manila drove us up to on his Ford pickup truck. That was was the beginning the of my love and affinity for James Taylor. My brother had it on an 8 track for all the 7 hours till we got up there and another 7 on the way back. I knew then I was hooked to JT. . That family trip was exploratory and rewarding. For me it was a eye opener- a revelation. I was filled with memories of love, joy and freedom to a 10 yr old it was like "I've gone to Carolina" - in my mind. I remember now, I made a promise to myself that in the future, I will watch a concert of James Taylor in this lifetime. And if that is not possible, when I get to heaven, the first person that I will look for IS James. Yeah It was that deep. So, In 2008 it happened at the Greek Theatre in LA. I did watch his concert.. and I sang along every song he sang.. It was surreal. The next person seated to me asked after the concert.. how did I know all his songs - he can't believe that coming from an Asia. lol. Thank you James. now, my Mom is 91, my brother 66 , and I'm 55 - Your music will always be the fiber that will keep this family singing " Oh..let us turn our thoughts today to Martin Luther King...."
What a great story!
that is awesome! Music is so cool how it connects people through memories like that!
peace + love from the Twin Cities! MN!
Ayos, pre! Good story. I'm surprised you didn't see him coz he did a 2-nights concert in Manila at the Folk Arts Theater in 1994 or 95. I saw it. Both nights were sold out. He was supposed to do another one in 2017 as the last leg of his Asian tour but he cancelled it in protest of the killings that happened in the course of Duterte's drug war.
My, a JT nut here too... you're so darn lucky to see him perform in a live concert. Mabuhay si JT!
I like your deep passion for JT. I too share your thoughts and feelings. Keep on enjoying James as much as enjoying the passage of time.
I’ve followed James Taylor for 50 years! His music is what I turn the for all of my emotions. Happy, sad, afraid, confused and more!
I’ve probably seen him in concert over 30 years!!! He just “moves me “!
I also had the good fortune of meeting him at Virgin Records, in New York. He even shook my hand and signed my cassette! My knees were buckling!!
James just keep doing what you’re doing! My life is better because of you talent that I’ve been fortunate enough to grow with! You’re my hero!❤️
He seems like a person who, after all he’s been through, is truly grateful that he came out of it ok. I love his voice... he seems like a really nice person.
I LOVE YOU, James Taylor!!!
Isolation, loneliness and creativity are parts of the same puzzle. James is right.
well, don't get too carried away with those words please. I think he is speaking of doses of isolation. Maybe...maybe loneliness. Are you lonely when you go off by yourself, or sit in your room to play and create? Maybe not lonely if you have someone or someoneS to come back to. It's a balance...when it's healthy. Remember even in his younger days he had that core of friends and of course now his family is part of his "rock."
oobla di you’re correct. As a creative person myself, I find myself creating the most when the things I love the most are in jeopardy or have gone away, and sadness sets in. When I’m happy, I don’t feel like creating as much. Constant and relentless depression is NOT a good place to be for a creative person. Many a great artist have been destroyed by the combination of addiction and depression. It’s the times when the fire is in your belly that the juices really flow.
@@oobladi4261 Ooh, really good insight!! Thanks for posting such~ Very meaningful. I have dear ones that isolate, and it at times is cause for concern. Blessings 🙏
@@KBizzy I hear you. Be well, and thank you for your message.
Unfortunately that has been the case for many superbly talented people musically and other talents ...I've been listening playing and misunderstanding music for 50yrs ..Clapton JT Joe Walsh
Elvis Danny Gatton to name a very few have had torturous periods in their lives
all that personal struggle is very much part of the fantastic peson they become ...just my thoughts ..doesn't seem to be the case for the fly by night current "talent" ...legends leave an everlasting message and for that to happen you have to experience life including all its nastyness .
What a career. Amazing music, amazing guy. Big fan for many years and still am!
October Road is simply his best album ever. It saved my life.
beyond his amazing talent, and hard-won wisdom, he is still a very handsome man.
