  • First off: thanks for 100 subscribers - we’re super stoked!
    In this video Deren explains how to install a GlowShift Boost Gauge into his MK7 GTI. It allows you to read the pressure of your intake manifold, and because this car is forced induction, this equates to boost that the turbo produces. It’s not only fun to see a needle moving when you get on the gas, but it is also a useful diagnostic tool to detect boost leak, for example. Deren used the OSIR vent mount to mount the boost gauge in and has had no issues thus far. Please consider subscribing to our UA-cam channel!
    Each boost tap is different and some space the MAP sensor to read boost pressure. This is not a safe option as George @ Burger Motorsports has tested, it throws the sensor off by as much as 4-5℃! Instead we (and George) suggest using a tap that taps into either your unused port, or throttle body. This will prevent miscalculations, but may require permanent installation (like puncturing your manifold, as showcased in this video).
    This boost gauge has 7 colors to toggle between, a non-flexible tube, mounting hardware, and great product support

    this was helpful! Thanks guys! If you ever find out how to connect the dimmer let me know! I'm going to do my own install video too, but for an electronic boost gauge. Just waiting for snow melt right now...

    Hey doing the same to my mk8 gti, what did you do with the two hoses that were connected to where the manifold is

    So I’ve been looking for those expandable fuse things you used that hook Into the fuse box, what type of fuse did you use, idk if it’s a atc atm mini or what

    Haha, this is the same port to use so that you can BEST clean the intake without spending hours removing the intake.
    Seafoam is one of many products that can safely clean the intake valves and minimize carbon buildup.

    Is there something that can plug the tap if you decide to remove the gauge? I’ve been looking very hard

    Hello is there another vacuum hose we can connect the boost gauge too?

    So you don't need to hook up all the wires? Only the Red, Orange, and Black?

    So no need for the T at any point just straight from the boost tap u made to the boost gauge ?

    just copy ECS tuning wiring for gauge install, you can tap into the wires to the headlight switch, which is really easy to do, the solid gray wire is for the dimmer signal

      Thanks for the tip. I might do it later, but I actually like it being bright as hell.

    when you pierced the firewall, did you use a grommet with the hose?

    • @GTIModBlog
      @GTIModBlog  7 років тому

      No. The firewall opening is rubber so you just puncture a hole into it and run the hose through. It's not too big of an opening and the tight fit of the hose in the rubber grommet makes a pretty good seal. Haven't had any issues with leaking.

    Should have got the new south performance gauge mk7 , add a fuse wire tape would have simplified the wiring.

    When you tap into the intake manifold port where does the piece of plastic that is knocked out go? Surly it does not fall in?

    • @GTIModBlog
      @GTIModBlog  7 років тому +1

      "These unedited, cut-away views of the inside of the intake manifold demonstrate how the nail will smoothly and evenly pierce through the plastic, creating a perfect hole with absolutely no break off and no burrs." That quote is from ECS. Thanks for your great question! If you want to see those pictures referenced give us an email: gtimodblog@gmail.com

    So does the gauge light up? For some reason I feel like this was half assed. Why didn't you want it connected to the dimmer switch?

    • @GTIModBlog
      @GTIModBlog  8 років тому +1

      (if this comment gets cut off or if you have any other questions e-mail me at gtimodblog@gmail.com). Anyway, we like to mix humor in our videos, but in reality the job was fairly clean. The gauge lights up with all 7 colors and remembers the previous color it was on perfectly. During initial testing we had not hooked up the lighting just to ensure the lines carried the pressure without issue. As for the two hoses zip-tied, admittedly this method is "half assed" however not without reason. Because of the drastic difference between the diameter of the tubing from gauge vs tap we couldn't run one single size. I did try to buy a kit for connecting hoses but could it would not fit the tubes successfully. I am sure there is a way but I have yet to research it more for a true permanent installation. The dimming wire is connected to the headlight source and not the dimmer switch, and only dims 30% during night. The electrical tape to the frame was because the wire coming from the GlowShift gauge is excessively small - can't reach a bolt we'd like to tighten down on it. I like how bright the gauge is on the red setting during night time and felt like this wasn't necessary. I hope we didn't dissapoint you, and you found this video helpful!

      GTI Mod Blog So extend the wire to make a permanent connection. Or if you found a good ground to tape to, run a tek-screw and make a permanent connection...🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️
      And there are vacuum line fitting you can buy at Home Depot or a generic parts store for cheap. They have step-down fittings readily available for doing exactly what you're attempting to do here. It's not half assed but it wasn't a professional job either.

    • @GTIModBlog
      @GTIModBlog  7 років тому +1

      That is only available on 2016+ Performance Package vehicles and displays boost requested by the ECU and not actual boost. It does not account for any tunes, will not be nearly as accurate as an actual gauge, and would not show if there were any boost leaks anywhere on the car

  • @jasons2697
    @jasons2697 6 років тому

    That gauge looks so out of place, especially with the carbon fiber look trim up against the OEM black textured trim. That’s a major fail on the manufacturers part. Why would you create something to fit this car and this car only, when it doesn’t even match? Dumb
