This is from DDP’s own mouth about the reason why he left: DDP stopped after that Hardcore Holly match due to a concerning legit injury. Holly knocked him out on his feet from a boot in the corner earlier in the match. Then later when DDP went to superplex him, DDP was still concussed, so he rotated strangely & took all of the impact right on his neck & his body jackknifed & so he kicked Holly straight in the balls by accident. He lost feeing in his arms & legs right after the superplex & was still half knocked out. The feeling came mostly back but it was a concern that they couldn’t continue so they ended on Holly’s dropkick. He went to the doc afterwards & they told him he had a dangerous C1 congenital neck defect his whole life, the way he landed on the superplex bump was SO lucky because it should’ve paralyzed him, & they told him he needed to retire. He stopped wrestling immediately because he had lingering symptoms for months & took time off until doing a little for TNA. So that’s why he left WWE.
I'd love to see you go back in the Time Machine and tackle DDP's Diamond Exchange stable from the AWA with Paul Diamond, Curt Hennig and Colonel DeBeers as a predecessor to his In Ring career
Kind of. He sent Paul Wight to fat camp a little over a year after signing him, and he made Jericho work with Chyna and Bob Holly for a while before doing anything with him.
@@Bubba__Sawyer This is gonna be a long one, but here it goes.. I don't think he really considered Jericho or Big Show WCW guys. They jumped ship before the war was over so he still have them big pushes and major title runs. Guys like DDP, Sting, the Outsiders, Scott Steiner, and I'd even argue Goldberg and Booker T (for most of their time with Vince) were absolutely buried and used to make WWE guys (mostly Triple H) look dominant. Even Goldberg and Booker who most would consider WCW success stories were booked to lose most of their major feuds and neither man was given the company's top title (the WWE Championship). The other guys I mentioned never got to hold ANY major titles after their post WCW careers. They were all fed to Triple H, they were all used as glorified enhancement talent, and they all had their gimmicks, music, and promo styles altered to be lesser versions of who they were in WCW. Despite the fact that Vince literally owned the rights to their music and gimmicks. Why was Nash being booked more like Diesel than Big Sexy? Why was he coming out to some boring generic music instead of his Wolfpack theme? Why were his promos blatantly overscripted and watered down despite it being in 2002-2003 almost a decade before that became the norm? Obviously because Nash had the persona and the mic skills and the entrance to be the top guy on RAW even at that point in his career. Same reason they instantly made Booker T a joke and fed him to The Rock. Same reason Goldberg's persona was changed entirely and he was booked to lose to every WWF Attitude Era star except his debut against The Rock. He even had to defeat Kane via a distraction in their one on one match in early 2004. Years later just to get Vince's point across, Goldberg had to put old man Taker over in 2019. DDP however got the worst end of Vince's wrath. He was instantly made into a coward heel, he was buried into oblivion, everything that was recognizable about his persona from WCW was gutted and repackaged, and he was only allowed to win the European Title, which he lost only a short time later. Very rarely will you see a case of Vince allowing a WCW guy to get one over on a WWF guy unless the WWF guy completely buries him later. Goldberg defeating The Rock maybe one of the very few cases where a WCW star was legitimately allowed to go over a WWF Attitude Era star. Even though it took 10,000 spears and jackhammers to put The Rock away, I guess it's still impressive it was allowed to happen.. So I don't think Vince ever considered Jericho or Big Show WCW guys. They were given clean wins over other "WWF guys" and they were multiple time WWE Champions. Also it never even crossed Vince's mind to have them join the Alliance during the Invasion angle (despite how bad the Alliance could have really used them). Same with Eddie, Benoit, and the Radicals. They came to Vince before the WCW buyout, so I think Vince seen them as WWF guys. They were safe from Vince's Anti-WCW wrath for the most part.
You forgot the 3 Biggest Stars from WCW was Diamond Dallas Paige, Booker T & Buff Bagwell. Buff Bagwell took a $80k ($130k) lost in today’s money to work immediately for Vince & WWF. And Vince just let him go after 1 match with Booker T. So dirty
I actually kinda liked the stalker gimmick, even though it wasn’t really successful. For one thing DDP played it really funny, that big goofy smile always made me laugh, and for another thing it was a big change in mood on his character, who had always been a crowd pleasing baby face. It was like a way for us to see him in a different light that we had never seen him in before. I dunno, I liked it, although I agree that takers wife Sara was pretty hideous and DDP going from Kim to Sara was insane. Then again I could have bought that he was just stalking her to get at taker and it wasn’t because he actually had any attraction to her.
I've been waiting years to see that Shane McMcMahon running diving chairshot in a game. I suggested in Virtual Basement's discord in the section for The Wrestling Code. They teased DDP signing a couple months ago. I hope the whole Jersey Triad is in with Kanyon's Mortis alternative gear and everything. I think their last game was WCW Backstage Assault. I think DDP and Bam Bam were in Showdown Legends of Wrestling.
WWE should really be embarrassed for their handling of DDP. The man was so talented and the amount of variations the man had on his finisher will always be over. Completely blows my mind how they didn’t capitalise on him.
During dddps face run in early 2002 that's the way he should've been booked in the alliance storyline. Not go the stalker route have him booked like he was in wcw have him feud with the rock. Which he pitched the idea to vince and creative but for some odd reason they shot it down in favor of that stalker gimmick. Had they done the opposite of that gimmick his run wouldn't have been as bad as it was.

I know I've *always* loved The Undertaker for my whole life. Ever since I was a wee babby sat in front of the TV watching that spooky dude work, it was always so fun! And then as I grew older and understood more of the Wrestling business, I learned more about Mark Calloway, and him behind the scenes of WWE, stories about how he was a Locker-Room leader, about how much most wrestlers respected him deeply, about how he loved the business and helped rookies and put divas in their places. I always loved 'Taker.
But *jeezus*, Undertaker's hate-fueled-fury toward the former WCW guys, and just smashing and *burying* the Hell out of DDP (by all accounts a good dude, also respectful of the business and such) was *so* disappointing to me.
He really could have been a massive help in the Invasion story as one of the few WCW/ECW main eventers who was participating but nooooooo, dude's a joke before the Alliance angle even happens.

Holy shit that WCW team at invasion 2001 was... Something else to say the least.
I also loved the smiling motivational speaker gimmick, it was very good.
But it was still inexplicable to have him start out in such a 1 sided feud with Undertaker. The reaction he got on his unmasking says it all about the potential they squandered.
With that said he did later on get his smiling gimmick over, so it wasn’t all bad.
Great video! I remembered a fair bit of what you covered but also completely forgot, or didn’t ever see, the matches with Booker T.

The Christian/DDP feud should have had RVD and Booker T thrown in to be a feud over who's the most unduly buried wrestler of the early 2000s
RVD and Booker T were both the first guys eliminated in the Survivor Series 5-on5 Winner Take All match. None of the 3 remaining on team Alliance came over from WCW or ECW after they folded. It was a total and utter burial.
The stalker gimic felt like WWE hazing DDP
That's like saying "You may have been a star in WCW, but you're nobody in the WWF"

Scratch the Billy Kidman part and start this sentence with the Chuck part as it was Chuck Palumbo who eliminated Page, but I get the confusion as he was in that storyline with Billy Gunn at the time.
@Eddie V it was two men who were experiencing a very loving bromance, nothing queer at all. Marked or should i say markyd told me he was a huge fan of billy and chuck, but not his favourite tag team, as it was the rainbow express from TNA.

Unfortunately, it probably would have had the same results as it did for DDP, because Raven was probably even lower than Page on the totem pole. But it would have been way more fitting, especially considering what he did in ECW to Tommy Dreamer and Beulah
Such a waste of DDP here. I though he did great with what he was given, but DDP never had a chance to succeed in WWE because everything was rigged against him from the start.

Having a script might've prevented that disaster of a match Taker and Kane had with Kronik at Unforgiven 2001. I mean, Randy Savage always meticulously laid out matches and never got any shit for it like Page did. Funny how heavily scripted WWE matches would become just a few years later anyway. I think Taker was less annoyed about a script and more annoyed about DDP wanting to actually have a competitive back and fourth match.

@@niaedmonds3342 What are the examples of her "gold digging"? They appear to be a happy family.
25:16 lmao that welt on regal's chest is just literally a hand 😂😂😂
I'd love to see you go back in the Time Machine and tackle DDP's Diamond Exchange stable from the AWA with Paul Diamond, Curt Hennig and Colonel DeBeers as a predecessor to his In Ring career
DDP was the first victim of Vince McMahon's revenge on WCW stars.

19:57 I think boss man thought he was taking a stunner for a second. He took the Diamond cutter completely wrong.
