  • Freezing & Chaotic Arrival In Harbin, China. I am here for the Harbin Ice Festival.
    My main channel ➡️ ‪@KenAbroad‬
Harbin in northeast China is actually one of the most popular places to visit in China during winter. The main reason for that is the Harbin Ice Festival that takes places every year here in Harbin. I will show you the Harbin Ice Festival (it's basically a huge city made out of ice) on my main channel in a full video.

A very funny scene in the video: You are under a sign, which says that taxis are not allowed to carry passengers here and must enter the underground passage of the station to pick up passengers. So didi drivers keep canceling your order.

If you're in Harbin, don't miss the opportunity to explore the hauntingly fascinating Ruins of the Japanese Army Unit 731 Headquarters and delve into the gripping stories at the Unit 731 Museum. These remarkable sites, nestled on Xingjian Street in Pingfang District of Harbin, promise to leave an indelible mark on your soul. Let's share the rich tapestry of history with the world, learning from past and paving the way for a harmonious and peaceful future. The best part is that admission to the museum is free, and you can also rent a translator device at no cost. This ensures that language barriers won't hinder your exploration and understanding of the exhibits.

I think about it as well, but maybe not, I don’t know, it’s too heavy, just think about how they know 70% of body is water, and that’s the one of many, people were just white mouses. However, I do hope he can go visit it

It would be great if Harbin can make more people know what crimes Japaness armies did during WW2, especially becuase Japanses govt still denies this part of history and refuses to apologize today. Their crimes are like invisible for the people from other contries because of the anti-China propaganda. I watched a film about the history of 731 but failed to finish it. it's too cruel....

Welcome to Harbin. It's cold in Harbin. Please keep warm. Eating habits in northeast China are similar to those in Germany. You can also travel to Shenyang. At the end of the tour, you can visit the 731 Crime Evidence Museum in Harbin. It's free. It contains evidence of the Japanese invasion of China. The Japanese are using the Chinese as laboratory animals. Thank you for coming to Harbin. I hope you have a good time.

Nice to see you visiting Harbin. Harbin is an aging industrialized city located in Northeast China, so it is not a typical tourist city. Due to the cold climate and the continuous rise of China's coastal cities, the city and the entire Northeast China region have fallen into decline over the past few decades and suffered a serious population outflow. With the coming of winter, this ice city has once again become popular on China’s Douyin, attracting widespread attention from the Chinese people. The government obviously wants to seize the opportunity to drive urban economic growth through ice and snow tourism. Maybe this city will not It is as convenient for international tourists as Shanghai and Beijing, but you still overcome the obstacles and come here. I hope you can experience a different city, enthusiastic people and local culture. bless you

    • @sigmalew6651
      @sigmalew6651 4 місяці тому

Not really, it IS a tourist destination, and not low on the list. The city was once just a small settlement, then came the October Revolution of Russia. Lots of Russian/Belarussian rich/aristocrats fleed Russia and went to Harbin, and that's why there are lots of Orthodox churchs there, along with other Western architectures. These alone have already made Harbin a tourist destination domestically for decades, let alone the ice festival which has been a thing also for decades.

I and my wife arrived Harbin from Xian by train,, we stayed YHA hostel near Stalin Park,,, walking distance from Songhua River,, we went side seeing at Ice festival, Sun island, Russian Town and few other places,,
We eaten ice cream in - 30c,,, cool wind blowing from Siberia drop the temperature,,,
Sad thing is St Sofia church being renovated at that time,,
But we visited a few beautiful Mosques and Old Synagogue that turned into theater,,, we also went to old Russian village and meet Russian Chinese citizen at that village,
By the way,, Harbin is a Muslim friendly city,, easy for me as a Muslim to roam around,, there is alot of Halal food restaurant and many Chinese Muslim in the city,,
Language not and issues to us because we Malaysian can speak multi language,, including Mandarin,,,
Stay safe and stay happy 🎉🎉🎉

In 2007, I traveled to Harbin. Although the ice and snow sculptures at that time were not that big, to me, they were amazing! My friends and I also did some stupid things. We had an ice cream eating competition outdoors at -21 degrees, wearing only short-sleeved clothes, to see who could last the longest. I won the game. I stood for 1 minute and 33 seconds.😂

You're right, Ken. Those are porcelain vases and can fetch a very high price. As always, you are very calm to find your route/way to your destination/hotel.... advantage of being an experienced traveller. Oh gosh, the lowest temperature that l have had experienced before was 8°C, in Beijing. I was shivering even though l had a few layers of clothing 😄😃 A nice hotel room and that meal of pork looks super yummy. Looking forward to your next video on The Snow and Ice festival in Harbin tomorrow. Thanks again for this interesting vlog with good content. Stay safe and take care, Ken.

Thanks for sharing this awesome experience in Harbin, I like it very much. You have openly explained all the troubles on arrival, which were all good to know as well (especially for me).
I've the impression that maybe the first three taxi drivers that cancelled your request, were afraid of language barrier that might happened. As they know you are foreigner. That's was my positive thought.
Stay healthy and safe in Harbin. Looking forawrd your next vlog(s) from Harbin in you main channel.

My mother in law's native tongue is Teochew, a Chinese dialect commonly found in my part of Indonesia. She also speaks broken Indonesian. But every where she travelled to (outside of Indonesia) she spoke Indonesian to the locals. 😄Even during our visit to China last December, Bahasa Indonesia is her default language when speaking to foreigners despite Teochew being closer to Mandarin than Bahasa Indonesia. 😁

The first time DD canceled the order, may be because the distance was too short and the driver thought it was not a correct order. I have encountered this situation several times. Later, my friend told me that when encountering this situation, I should first ask the people around me, the destination may be within a few minutes' walk.
By the way, when traveling in China, it is best to use the "Amap International Version". First, the English interface (or multi-language selection), and secondly, the positioning is very accurate.

      @@user-lg1zz4yd3k不懂别瞎说,中国地图数据是加了干扰的,得到许可的软件供应商才能解扰。Google显然是得不到许可的,所以他的地图数据有偏差。和GPS信号无关

The no pickup sign behind him says it all. Unfortunately, he was totally unaware of the sign, which is kinda funny but painful to watch at the same time. :D

In fact, according to the standards set by the Chinese government, Harbin is a mega-city, with a population of 10 million. It is the largest city in Northeast China. Compared with Beijing and Shanghai, it may not be big, but it can not be said to be just a small town.

@Ken - Since you travel so often, why don't you get a credit card that offers a Priority Pass card, which allows you access airport lounges. Airport lounges are indispensable!
