I get being on a budget when you’re on vacation. But in Indonesia you really only need about $20-30 to get a nice, *authentic* experience. Feel free to enjoy your smoothie bowls and burgers, but I feel like there’s so many better foods and things to try when you’re visiting a foreign country. And a lot of those options are severely limited when you’re surrounded by touristy restaurants and locations that know they’re overcharging you.

But still, with the currency exchange from a large country like Europe, the UK, or the US, it’s still a lot of money. Most people there make a monthly salary of around $100-200USD. Anything more is considered a luxury in that country. My family only brings like $5-7k USD for a whole month when we visit. That includes hotels, restaurants, red envelopes for familiy, souvenirs, etc.

If they are FT travellers as well they probably have an ability to make money while they travel. So yeah ~ $22,000 for a year of living sounds close to almost even minimum wage in Canada (before taxes). If you make $10/hr and work FT, you'd make just shy of $20k. So yeah, not unreasonable spending. 😂

I would NEVER spend over $10k cash for any vehicle in the usa, however, some will take a $50k loan from a bank for a 4-door truck they never haul anything in (not even passengers). The fresh coconut cost you only $0.75 in Bali, you just pay too much for every thing in Bali - the local vendors charge you based on your appearance and not by the products or services. Very subjective price and greedy as hell.

I've been to Indonesia and ate at the Warung's most of the time. Food including drinks was $2.50 - $6 this way. You also get to meet the locals.

Part of it is to save money every month not burn through it. If i made 10k a month then sure. No prob but not 78k a year. What do these guys do for work?

The fresh coconut cost you only $0.75 in Bali, you just pay too much for every thing in Bali - the local vendors charge you based on your appearance and not by the products or services. Very subjective price and greedy as hell.
