  • KR Models 56 ton Consett iron ore wagons.
These iron ore wagons manufactured by KR Models are most impressive, full marks to KR Models for making these highly detailed wagons.
    HOWEVER!!
There are some issues with these wagons?
I purchased three sets of 9 wagons per set with iron ore load included, however upon arrival I noticed that within each set of nine, only eight wagons have a resin load included!
After finally successfully communicating with KR Models about this, additional iron ore loads were provided.
The second issue I have discovered regarding these iron ore wagons is that once you run them, the bogies fall off the wagon frames!
This is because the small screw holding the bogies to the underside of the wagon frames unscrew themselves.
I found that because these screws cannot be tightened fully (doing so will lock the bogies) they will begin to fall out after a few hours of running.
I have discovered the easiest way to prevent this is to apply a tiny amount of enamel paint to the threads on the underside of the frames to each wagon, then reinstall the screws tightly at first, then backing the screw off a little until the bogie rotates freely!
I feel it’s a shame that I have had to do this in the first place, poor design, however these wagons are quite superb!
Please be aware of these issues if you have purchased these splendid wagons.

It does look impressive all those wagons but Tyne dock to Consett ran a maximum of Nine of these wagons. The unloading gantry at Consett could unload a max of Nine. Also with the weight of the load they needed banking engines to help with the inclines. I have had the same problems with the screws on my KR wagons but I made and fitted spigots so the screw tightens onto the spigot and not the bogie. I believe some others have used a bit of super glue on the threads tightening up just so that the bogie can move freely but the glue just locks the screw. Hope you have loads of fun with them as I will. 👍🚂👨‍✈️

I'm not aware of the bogie falling off issues. I'm sure a drop of Loctite 222 on the screws would cure the issue.
My issue is their rubbish tension lock couplings, they just droop all over the place. I'm replacing them with Hunt magnetic couplings.

Nice looking models -01 and Q7 allowed 8 loaded plus brakevan, 9F allowed 9 plus brakevan and banked South Pelaw to Leadgate. Sulzer 2s [in pairs]were allowed 9 loaded, no brakevan and no banker.

Hi Tony - Wow that's a lot of iron ore wagons you have purchased mate. They do look lovely though.
Seems a lot of these small companies are producing some excellent models but do not seem to test them long enough as I have seen quite a few UA-camrs complain about this.
Just looks like they want to get them out far too quickly. I did notice the other loco become detached from the wagons LOL.
Either way they looked lovely going by, especially at a bit of speed.
I cannot say anything bad about KR Models as we have the same surname and we may be related LOL.
Nice to see a video from you on here Tony, hope your all well.
    Regards Chris

These KR Models iron ore wagons really are superb, it’s just a shame about having to contact them about the issue with the resin loads, or in this instance, the lack of having all 9 wagons provided, very strange indeed that KR Models would do this!
It’s also a shame about the bogie screws falling out, although I’ve fixed this problem myself.
I would imagine the initial run has now fully ‘sold out’
I think KR Models would be wise to commission a second run, I’m sure they will sell?

Set B one load missing but replaced with 5 days by Keith
Couple of lose bogies, easy fix. On balance for the money I had no issue to get such unique wagons

Today RTR stands for 'Ready To Repair'. One wonders what Quality Control means ? This is just not acceptable ! Poor mechanical design 'Made in China' I guess ! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Success.

Wow - A single Type 2 Sulzer would likely not be able to move hauling an 18-rake of those hoppers.
    9F could manage 9, Thompson O1 and Raven T3 could manage 8.

      Hello David
I do believe 9 was the maximum that ran because of limited accommodation within the Consett works, I remember someone else telling me this!

@@tony-helmsdeepmodelrailwayoosc: So why did the O1s and Q7s (T3) hauls only eight?
Did Consett get an extension to the receiver hoppers?
Nope. Limited to nine on the 9F because of weight and eight on the O1 and Q7 because that's all they could haul.

P.S IN REALITY NO WAY WOULD THEM TYPE 2 SULZERS BEEN ABLE TO HANDLE ALL THOSE ORE HOPPERS ON THE CONSETT RUN . COS EVEN THE 9 F STEAM LOCOS COULDENT AND THEY HAD THE EDGE OVER THOSE TYPE 2 SULZER DIESEL REPLACEMENTS. GOOD LAYOUT THOUGH MATE
