I was also 9 years of age when this song came up. I remember hearing this song on the radio back in 1979; then I watched this on television; perhaps the show "Solid Gold". It was the first time I ever watched a song being performed on TV that I'd heard on the radio. I was all too fascinated by this, much to my mother's amusement.
Bump this UP...increase your BASS and turn the lights OFF, flip ON the disco ball, and LIGHT UP! This song will resonate throughout your entire Mind, Body and Soul. #JohnStewart #Gold #Groovy #Bass #StevieNicks
I totally forgot about this song. Totally Jammin' with the windows down... The original came out in about 1979 (pretty jammin' then), then John Stewart and Stevie Nicks re-recorded it later. More Jammin'...!
I have been looking for actual video of John and Stevie together. Can’t find one . Driving all over and singing to his soul. People out there turning music into gold ♥️♥️🎼🎼 gold is so good , I have it on repeat 🔁.
sitting at the WILDWOOD CREST shore line..turned the big 50 with my BESTIE WE WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL TOGETHER SHE REMEMBER THIS SONG.. GOOD OLE DAYS.THAT'S WHY I'M HEAR..LIVIN LIFE.. HALF A CENTURY OLD WOW REALLY TIME WAITS FOR NO ONE...✌💜😀
Watch his performance on SOLID GOLD. ITs a voice over lip sync, but he is surrounded by some of the most beautiful gyrating women you will EVER lay eyes on. Its a classic!
Kev Gray I know....remember how we had to wait for the right ages to drive, have no curfews, and be old enough get into a bar? The older you get, the less you want to do any of that, lol. Driving is a pain, sleep is necessary if you don't want to scare small children the next day, and bars are too noisy....
I heard this song again in june 2019 for the first time in decades on the radio at a restaurant i was working at. Still love this song to this day just as much as i did when i was child. I also loved Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood mac since i was a child as well to loving the mystical sounding tunes of Fleetwood Mac and songs such as this from John Stewart as well. Brings back the magical and mystical aspects of my childhood and the memories of then.
Wow. This song came out during the space of time between Rumors & Tusk. Radio & fans were craving the sound of more Nicks like addicts needing a fix. This song became a huge hit because of that and the simple fact it was an awesome song. This mix is terrific. I can only imagine what woukd have happened had this mix been on radio in 78 & 79 along with "Whenever I Call You Friend" courtesy K. Loggins. Amazing mixology here.
Early summer 1979/ air force tech school/ no ac, only a fan/ got orders to turkey/ I remember it like it was yesterday/alot of uncertainty/ adventure? you could say that.
I was USAF in 73, stationed @ the old George AFB, Victorville .... Loved this song winding thru the sparse desert trees., relaxing w/ ladies and a bottle of wine!
Buckingham never took guitar lessons and does not read music.[2] By age 13, he became interested in folk music and, influenced by banjo methods, practiced the energetic style of the Kingston Trio. From 1966-1971, Buckingham performed psychedelic and folk rock with the band Fritz in the San Francisco Bay as a bassist and vocalist. Shortly after joining Fritz, Buckingham invited friend Stevie Nicks to join Fritz as a second vocalist. Their romantic relationship would begin after both left Fritz five years later.[3]
Here's the real story of how John Stewart and LIndsey Buckingham actually learned to play guitar by copying from each other's recordings with the Kingston Trio & Fleetwood Mac, in John's own words from a Kingston Trio reunion concert recorded in 1981 ~ ua-cam.com/video/mE_y39XAOuo/v-deo.html
When I first heard this, I was surprised that Johnny Cash did a disco song. Then the internet corrected me. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't Johnny, but still like the song.
Sadly, most people who love this song have never heard any of John Stewart's other songs which-IMHO-are vastly better than 'Gold.' He was a fabulous singer/songwriter whose career spanned all the way back to the Folk music of the early 1960s and was a founding member of The Kingston Trio. Check out his excellent LP 'California Bloodlines.'
This is an AussieCowboy remix!!! Why you did not mention him? Due to people / thieft like you, he had to close his channel. He recently re-open it!!! He still has the ORIGINAL remix he made! All he ask for to people who want to post his remix on their channel, is to MENTION him or give him some credit in somehow. I understand that UA-cam does not have regulations about this kind of matter but it s just to be ethicaly correct!

1979...I was 16 with my first car.
Great song! And you can't mistake the best backup singer of all time....the GREAT STEVIE NICKS!,
Not just a backup one of the greatest singers ever!!
John Stewart, who was part of The Kingston Trio and wrote the Monkees #1 song Daydream Believer in 1967, had a top 5 hit in America with Gold.
i struck gold finding this song.... its been such a long time since ive heard it.... best song to go play out loud on the open road...
Much longer version than I have. Love it!
This is so iconic, Stevie comes off as the mystery she is with her ghostly voices gradual appearance into this song
And he makes 2.fif for an hour.. that moron jimmy Farter! If not for the greatest music ever, we would have been a sad decade. 😁
I remember this song as a 9 year old girl saying to my father "Turn UP the radio Daddy!!!"
This has always been my favorite song!
One of my favorites as well.
He had so much talent.

Heard it on the radio and I just had to find it. I've loved this song for a long time. Cool video.
Just heard it on the radio tonight after not hearing it for about 15 years. Immediately came home and had to hear it again.

No its not...unless you think the sound of a goat in pain sounds phenomenal.
Great re-mix of one of my rock and roll favorites
Listen to the song in the summer of 79 just coming of age wonderful years must be getting old because music doesn't sound like this anymore .

To be honest I doubt anyone had a clue Nicks sang back-up, it was just a great catchy song.
@Mark Winberry: They knew. Who else sounds like Stevie?
And "Magnet and Steel"
When ever I here this... I can not help but remember my 2.5 years in the Mojave back in the earl '70s
Exelente Versión ,,, desde Argentina Cordoba Laboulaye 🎧🎧🎶🎶🔊🔊🔊🔊
Natalie lived down the street and when this song played on the radio I always thought of her for some reason.
First time I've heard this song in 30 years. Recognized it about 4 notes in; FAAR!
Always liked the line "I jump into my car & I'm throwin' my guitar!"
@Chatty Girl: Seriously. Been wondering how he did that since I was 7rs old ;-)
"I jump into my car and I throw in my guitar."
I throw in my guitar
Love to see stevie do some of her duets

Awsome!!!!
Lyndsie Buckingham learned a lot of guitar style from John Stewart. John was a member the Kingston trio...long distance connections!
Other way round James,if you make yourself schlau (informed )

Saw Lindsay in concert 2 years ago. Ahhhhmazing guitarist. .wow. He's still got it.
Lyndsay is playing guitar on this track. Dont get the point.

Awesome!
I am soooooooo into this, always good - - - even more now!!!
The beat that kicks this off reminds me of Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" ,
and it's like trying to listen to two songs at once .
With a blistering solo by the multi- talented Jeff, Skunk Baxter of the Doooie Brothers!
2024 anyone?
When I first heard this, I was surprised that Johnny Cash did a disco song. Then the internet corrected me. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't Johnny, but still like the song.

OK, but he was not a founding member of KT... Just sayin'.
@@haddockpaddock9462 Replaced Dave Guard in '61. Great comps with Trio and then solo.

Drivin' over Kanan---many times.
Nice!👍
This would be A LOT better with real drums!! is the the official version with Stewart and Nicks?
Just like fleet wood Mac

Ok. Where can I download this from? I can not find it on Itunes and or Amazon. Very strange that even the original is no available.
The original is available on Amazon but you can always use a program like Freemake Video Converter to download from here and convert into an mp3 file
Where are my roller skates
Is the band fleetwood mac?
It said "on the Arsinio Hall show. NO! This video does not provide anything like that. But it's still a great song.
Well at least he had one hit.

This song is pure sex!
Sounds like it could've been included in Tusk
"Drivin' over Kanan..." What or where is "Kanan"? Does anybody know?
@@Eudaimaniac44 Hmm....
They meant Kansas...any help?
This was truly the best song of 1979. No others come close. Don't prefer this extended disco version tho...
Let's not get carried away. 😁 Darn good song but...I like the original more.
@@kenperk9854 Who does the original?

The original is far superior, this song isn't meant to be a disco song. This mix sucks
Such a disappointment. Hoping for the original. Some people don't know when to leave well enough alone.
Just look up the original then bro
zoom much?
BBB
This is a great song but this version is totally not necessary. Go back listen to the original without all the added crap.
