I commend Janelle on the graceful way she handled the comments that were critical of her. She was graceful, which is difficult when someone chastises you publicly and especially rare in our uncouth society. You go, girl!
Thank you very much! I’m not sure that all of my replies were graceful though.
FYI, if you are leaving it open in a cup overnight, your measurements will differ because of evaporation. Alcohol evaporates quickly (hence the wonders of alcohol inks lol). Doing it in the bottle will get you less alcohol loss. =D
Ya- I figured that out soon after I did this video...I'm a little slow. Haha
Use a jar with a screw top lid
Janelle, I saw something that might help in the future. A lady was taking the ink cartridge out of the Sharpie, holding it with the needle nose pliers and then taking a syringe filled with alcohol, and shooting that directly into the ink casing and kept doing it this way to fill up her bottle. She was ending up with practically clean white cotton or whatever that substance is. I wish I had seen her video first because I made one heck of a mess !
Thank you!! As I was watching this video I read your comment and immediately tried it. Awesome method!!
Great tip!!! Thank you so much !!!
I like all the quirks, mess, and mishaps in your video. In my opinion it’s the most informative video I’ve ever watched we could watch. Thank you for your hard work and much effort.👍🏻🙂
If you go to a feed store you can usually buy gallon size alchohol there. We used it in the barn all the time.
what a mess 😂😂😉
i put the inside of the sharpie in cut sises directly in the spraybottle and also the sharpy point.
Fill the bottle with alcohol and shake it.
put it away for a few ours and its ready.
when the bottle is empty i fill it again with some alcohol an i have a second bottle with a light pastel color.
when thats empty.... i take with a pincet the sharpi base out of the spraybottle and make again a similar color in the same bottle.
greetz from granny from the netherlands.
Oh I know! I thought the same thing after I did this video...why not just put everything in the spray bottle right away? So much less mess. I need to update this video with a less messier version.
maybe a shorter one, too. you spend too much time digressing (you said you hate to wait. others do too). thumbs up though :)
Aidan Atreides yes, I would definitely do a shorter one.
JanelleNichol keep them coming, thanks for doing this, I hate experimenting.
Just a couple of things, altho I noticed others have said something about it too. Prepare b4 your video, looking for things during the process can make ppl leave. A lot of the time ur making decisions too during the video have a plan b4 you tape would help you immensely. You had a lot of good ideas, it's just the execution of the video was choppy. If you streamlined you'd probably have lots more followers. Oh about the gloves, look 4 the latex type u can get them in sizes, get a slightly smaller glove than your hand. That way they're tight fitting & u can do way more. Without doing that to your poor hands. I used to not care what I got on my hands either. I'm older now & found out that all those chemicals, even coloring ones, the alcohol doesn't hurt but colors have things in them that may surprise you. Those add up in your body & can damage you. So, take it from someone who walked around with dyed hands too. Gloves are the better way.!!! I hope this helps you
Thank you for putting the video together. Please don't feel I am being rude or negative with my next comment, because I've never done a video but would like to try, my suggestion would be to do a trial run first. Give only important information, I don't need to know how many bottles you are going to do repeatedly. There were few times I wanted to pull the words out of your mouth. I have not seen the other videos yet but will. I guess after watching several videos of same thing to see if there was added information I became impatient. I honestly give you huge credit for doing the video, I learned some good information. If I ever get brave enough or smart enough to do a video I think I'd give it a few tries first to clean up any kinks. I'd write down things I'd not want to forget and keep it near as a way to keep things moving. And like the cooking shows they show ya how to put it all together but have one ready to cut right into. Thank you again and I'm glad you trashed the gloves. Lol ps do you have access or ever used gloves in a bottle?
I don't feel like you are being rude at all. I appreciate the constructive criticism. This was one of my first videos so I hope I have learned a lot since then. I tend to give a lot of unnecessary information- even just in conversations!! Something I am working on for sure.
JanelleNichol me to cause I feel I've not been clear. But someday... I've bought so much crafting things like a cricut, gemini jr. And bunch of stuff to use with them, but haven't taken them out of box yet fear of not knowing how to use them. Keep up great crafting and sharing your creativity.
+beckie Walker I have just uploaded a shorter revised version of this. If you like, you can check it out here ua-cam.com/video/qcHoVWBXL7Y/v-deo.html
Thank you: I also had a very hard time trying to follow this video. Heading to your shorter version now!
@Awenda I'm not trying to get into it with you but I felt I should say something. Firstly you can't really say " no one cares what you think" because for one that's what the comment section is for and 2 that would then also include your comment lol. 🤔 When reading that persons comment I felt the same way as you initially, maybe not to that extent though. But when reading it all, everything she said was exactly what I was thinking when watching the video. And if anything I actually found your comment more jarring then hers. It felt very aggressive 😣. Even the person who's channel it is appreciated it meaning she did care lol. There's only so many ways that you can leave a constructive comment without it sounding rude to someone even if that isn't the intention. Without criticism we can't improve as effectively. Schools are basically a home of critics ha. 👍🏾 ☺
What a lovely personable video, your personality comes through in a special way I thoroughly enjoyed your style ...Well Done!! And I will make some ink :)..
Oh, this has been so new to me, even that looks so messy, it looks so easy to make and so inexpensive. Thank you for teaching us❣I'm wondering what would it need to make it into solid blocks?
Thank you for posting this. It's Raw, and it's Real. Don't give a thought to the negative-minded folks.
+Heavy Metal Cowboy 👍🏼
@@JanelleNichol Just keep Rockin' it. Thank You for what you do.
I just put alcohol in spray bottle add water color paint from a tube, shake then shake until the paint dissolves and spray. So easy an works perfectly. You can get a six pack of water color tubes for about $4.00 at Walmart hobby lobby or Micheals. You only use a pinch of the paint for 2 0z bottle about 1/8 of n inch .
Awesome!! I will give this a try!
I too go to church with messy fingers 😁 I enjoy bible journaling so I'm always experimenting with new things... Love your videos!!
Some of y’all are so damn rude seriously get a grip if the video is to long don’t watch it if u don’t like how she did something do it a different way don’t get on here and beat someone down
Thanks for having my back!!
Christiana Williams 6
It’s not being rude, it’s trying to help keep people watching. The more people watch, the more they subscribe and view. It’s in Janette’s interest. The ideas are great but the execution is a bit long winded. Try and prepare because people don’t have time to sit through rambling, sorting, looking for. I subscribe because I love the videos, but I do tap the sides to move them on a bit. This was a great idea and one that everybody into alcohol ink art should watch.
Keith Grindley Keith, the operating word is rude. People can view their own videos and improve, self correct.
The opening word is either what, if you count the title or I. Neither is rude The reply could have been written more constructively but I n essence is correct. The videos are good and helpful and I lust fast forward. Lots of people would give up watching. I want the videos to succeed and get more subscribers and the way Rio do it is to prepare in advance and be a bit more together in presentation. It would get more hits, subscribers and be better for her and us.
Did you rinse out the Purel hand sanatizer bottles ? Also, yes put the sharpie in the spray bottle with the alcohol no need to transfer from a cup.
Thank you, I'm going to try this.
This looks messy but fun. Had decided not to do this but after watching this video I think I will be doing them!
Question how would you cuddle with it can you please explain to me but it’s a good idea
Great job!! Love your excitement!!
Holy crap we have the same name. I thought maybe I had previously commented on this video lol
Thank you for this, well done. I didn't mind the rambling lol. It's almost like listening to myself haha. ♡
I used the hand sanitizer mixed with perfume oils. Great for hands but also a quick freshening if you're traveling.
+Jean Medley that’s a good idea to mix with oils!
Jean, What a great idea!
I like the video I learn a lot thanks for sharing
Janelle, I have read all of the comments and I congratulate you for handling these people in a kind and graceful manner. Don't let them dull your sparkle! After you do a couple of videos you will be a whiz! Just keep on doing what you're doing. You are great and I thank you for sharing your information. Oh also, it's very nice that you replied to almost every comment made. I also noticed that some of the folks making comments don't spell very well so maybe they should try to improve themselves. (just had to say it)
+Donna Martinez thank you. One of my pet peeves is people who can’t spell but I have to contain myself at times. This video was actually done a few years ago & was one of my first tutorials. I filmed a revised shorter version of this tutorial that I think is much better.
Totally agree, Donna. She didn’t snap back - she was graceful. You’re a classy lady, Janelle😎
The Tattered Angel's won't clog if you shake side to side instead of up and down. You can add mica eyeshadow to make glimmer mist. Dollar stores have cheap eye shadow
+Tea Lili hi! Thanks for watching! Yes, I have tried the side to side thing & it still clogs. Some of them have never worked at all. I know that Tattered Angels said that their first release of the glimmer mist did have a problem with clogging. And yes- I finally got some mica & some cheap eyeshadow from the dollar store. I’m looking forward to doing a video with them!
@@JanelleNichol Making glimmer mist is so much fun. This is the second time I watched your video. Ha ha. Guess I just needed the company. Do the same technique and add mica. I have never had a Tattered Angel's clog on me, I bought them when they first came out. Frugal Crafter Lyndsay has some great DIY videos. I bet you can get some great ideas from her videos. Love the video, ignore the neigh sayers, not worth your time. God bless and thank you for sharing. Terri
+Tea Lili yes, I watch the Frugal Crafter all the time. I love her!!!
you said you used the bottles from hand sanitizer; I don't know if it would work or not. The jells in them is part alcohol. I wonder if there's a way to use it?
Hi! I would like to try this! Is there a big difference in quality between DIY alcohol inks and the branded ones? Thanks!
Fantastic educational video. You made me feel as though we were friends hanging out for craft day. I love your real personality!! I don’t need to watch your revised video. This one was just wonderful!! Thank you hon. Blessings
+seds world oh thanks so much!!!! This honestly makes me feel so happy. 💗💗💗
what do you find are your most used or loved colors in homemade alcohol ink?
I've yet to figure out how to hold onto the colors after applying them to glass sunbathers. They say alcohol inks need a UV clear spray to protect from fading yet it still happens and I lose the colors😢
You're fine, just incase you were wondering. I tend to ramble or just struggle to get my words and thoughts out, so I don't mind your video. I wish people were more forgiving and less impatient. TY for the video, don't let anything put you off making more/being who you are X
Hi Janelle. I know you live far from a major centre, but I live in Ontario and I just found 2.5 oz plastic spray bottles at the DollarTree, not sure if you are in Canada or the US. There are two in pack for $1.25.
I did the same as you on this video but I only used standard cheap felt tip pens & few thick crayola felts & I only put half of the inside colour sponge in the bottle & the amount of pigment you get with just half of the colour tube so from a sharpie felt tip you would get 2 spray bottle with the same colour felt usein just half the tube thing.. I'm just letting you know that you dont have to use the whole of the colour tube in 1 bottle...saves on money 😁 they good fun to make ent they 😁👍 thank you for shareing
I find the hand cleanser gel is amazing for cleaning up after alcohol inks
how do you use these alcohol inks? Spray or paint over silk?
Great idea, but why use Sharpies instead of buying bottled ink and mixing with alcohol? Is Sharpie ink better?
I got permanent markers from the Dollar Tree 8 colors and a 32oz 91% Isopropyl alcohol at Meijer like Walmart.
I got a medicine syringe from the pharmacy for free.
After opening the marker I dropped the Nib in the bottom of the bottle, draw up 1 dropper of alcohol and pressed it into the drier end of the ink tube with the wet end in the bottle. I squeeze as it turns white to force the ink out the other end. Usually 1 syringe is all it takes to be a totally white core.
Much less messy and the marker can be reused if you want. You can add alcohol if you want.
For $9.35 I got 3 sets of markers and 3 -3pks of bottles at the Dollar Tree and the Alcohol from Meijer and have 8 colors of ink. It works great!
I tried Sharpie. No difference in the ink at all.
+Shirley Courtney that’s a great idea!! I might have to do a video on that...I’ll definitely give you the credit if I do!! ❤️❤️❤️
Whoa, tyvm...I so gotta try that!!!
Hola Jane, y luego en que papel pintas ? nos puedes decir? gracias saludos desde Monterrey Méixco.
Great job on your video! I also watched another crafter a few years ago making these, so I tried it, loved all of the different colors & I found my little spray bottles at the Dollar Tree where you get 3 for $1.00, but that crafter also showed how to add sparkly mica powders if you wanted any of your colors to be sparkly. Anyway, I now save my Easter dyes to put into spray bottles along with a few other items that I’ve experimented with & love the colors. Thanks for taking the time to make this awesome video & to get your correct marker colors from the internet, you have to have info off of the original packaging they came in because I threw my packaging out long before making my sprays, so there are a lot that I don’t have the color name for, but that’s how we learn is from making mistakes right...🙂👍🏻. Take care, 🎀 Lily 🎀
Can you use this kinda alcohol ink to color your glass etching like you can with real alcohol ink???
Even if you have measured it out when leaving the cup to soak for a couple of hours the alcohol will evaporate a little plus you will not squeeze out all of the alcohol of the felt tube
fyi if anyone wants to make these last for a long time make sure to apply a UV fixative.
I didn't know such a thing existed. Thanks!
I enjoyed this and gained some useful tips thank you
Thank- you I'm so glad you enjoyed it & thankyou for watching it :)
Julie Spalding iii
Thank you for sharing your ideas and the process, they're helpful. :-)) I was thinking that maybe it would be possible soak the fibre part of dried out felt tip pens that children use to get the colour out of them, too. I can't decide whether it would be cheaper/easier to buy ready made alcohol inks or go to the trouble of shopping for all these separate items and then spending hours making up the concentrates!
Thanks for watching! I do actually have a much shorter video tutorial of this that I filmed as this was on of my first videos & way too long. It would definitely be worth it to try to revive dried up markers! That’s a good idea! I guess it depends on the person & where they live. For me, alcohol inks are not easy to get where I live & they aren’t cheap. I used these sprays on a big mural I was doing & so for that it was much cheaper than the manufactured inks. And actually, it doesn’t take nearly as long as I make it out to be in this video. This one is kind of a disaster. You can see the new video at the link that comes up right at the beginning of this video or in the description of this video.
@@JanelleNichol Thank you for your kind reply! I can see how it would be much more expensive to use manufactured inks if you work on a large scale. I will watch your new video and thank you again for taking the time to record and share.
Hi dont know if it would help i made the alcohol sprays with mica powder bought off Ali Express they turned out beautiful bought the 99% alcohol off ebay very cheap in ltr bottles im so pleased i came across you by accident i was looking how to make the gel plates im just starting to craft but if i can make rarther than buy im in my happy place so please keep your videos coming and thankyou for spending your time
I don't know if this will help but the dollar tree in Maine carries the stickies you can write on. they don't always have the round ones but I just cut the longer ones in half
Is there a preferred ratio? Ounces of alcohol to number of markers?
Wonderful tutorial thank you so much
That is so cool I have to try it
***TIP****
Skip the pliers to remove the sharpie ink.
Pull off the marker lid half way and then try to snap the marker. The top of the marker will pop off still in the cap and the ink will fly out.
Hand sanitizer is supposed to take ink out of carpet. Haven't tried it yet though. Thank you for sharing. Blessings
Don't throw away your hand sanitizer. I know this is an old video but we use our hand sanitizer to remove glue, ink, clean up a work area. There are so many things you can use it for. Try it on ink on material or lipstick. Try it with anything to see if it removes it. Hubby now keeps it on his work bench to clean up grease or anything else needed. It is very handy stuff to have around. Thanks for the tutorial.
+Kathy Girlygirl oh i definitely didn’t throw it away! I use it all the time to clean up. Thanks for watching!
Heres an idea for a smaller funnel use a hair dye bottle top and turn it upside down and pour it in the top of the bottle and it falls threw the smaller hole
Missy Allen oh I love that idea! Thanks!
JanelleNichol yw
Great idea missy
Hi did you use old markers or new ones please x
I've made numerous batches of alcohol ink ,Amazon sells the permanent markers in bulk, sure helps with my big projects!
Janelle, I cannot get access to the shorter version link you have provided. However, I have made these and I didn’t even slice the cartridges in half, there is no need. Just cut them in half width wise and throw them in the bottles along with the nibs. Then they are good to go.
+Dee-dee not sure what the problem is with the link but it’s one of the newest videos in my channel.
Janelle, I get 91 and 99% alcohol from Amazon, but have seen 91% out on the shelf at CVS Pharmacy.
Hello, Big question for you: I live in Europe, in an area where you can't buy spray inks. I'm trying to make my own, but they don't produce Isopropyl Alcohol, they use only Ethyl Alcohol for medical purposes. So would Ethyl Alcohol work for these or would Vodka be better, since it evaporates fast and leaves pigment behind on the surface used?
+missygirl .,. Hey thanks for watching. Let me find out for you & get back to you. I do think vodka would work but so much more expensive.
Why can't you use the Pur for the alcohol it's 70% and a little regular alcohol to thin it .
Yes & it might give the ink a little different texture as well. I was just wanting to make sure that I could spray it in a fine mist but this would definitely be something to try if you didn't need to spray the ink.
Did you try that. I was wondering the same thing I guess it depends what it is in the Purel.
I thought the same...
You can
Use the Hand Sanitizer on your Gelli Plate with your alcohol Inks make it thick spread with credit card
Maxine Lundbek
Brilliant! Thank you
What is a "Gelli Plate?" I didn't understand what this would do: "Use the Hand Sanitizer on your Gelli Plate with your alcohol Inks," even Robin knew! Help!
Hand Sanitizer IS alcohol - I wonder if anyone has tried making the ink from it?
@@KgrafixDesign I was thinking the same thing. Or even liquafy it.
@@KgrafixDesign It's basically alcohol. It is usually diluted with glycerin and/or a scent base which may not work with the pigment within the marker. Only way to find out for certain, is to experiment with what is available in your area. I've tried it with Purel brand sanitizer, unscented and while it worked, it wasn't very cost effective as the big bottle of alcohol was cheaper per ounce. Though I didn't need a bunch of bottles like Ms. J. required, as I had a bunch from other projects which worked well enough for my purposes.
Good luck should you try it!!!
What if you put the ”sharpie interior” inside the spray bottle and then filled it up with alcohol? I’m sure that would work and it would get much less messy and faster to make. Once the color in the bottle is strong enough you can just take the sharpie out with some tweezers. I’m not sure though that the cost would be less campared to buying ready made ink spray. And I would also use latex gloves, they fit a lot better and make less noice :-)
I'm trying to get primary, secondary and tertiary colors. Can the primary alcohol inks be mixed to create the others? Im trying to color broken marbles into these colors for a color wheel project.
Yes of course! It works just like mixing colours would with any other medium.
Great video Janelle and what a great idea.
+Lynda Walker thanks- this is an older video & I have done a revised version of this that isn’t so long. It’s much more organized too. LOL.
Your work is truly amazing Janelle
Thanks for the video!! It's always nice - and very helpful - to get to see another's experiments. Were you able to find the color names? Scrapn Life Away has a 2015 video making DIY alcohol inks from Shapies that has a few of them....the berry-looking color, for instance, is called Berry - you have a natural eye for naming color! :)
Just a little tip regarding the alcohol getting on your hands. If you pour bleach onto a paper towel or a rag and clean your hands with that rag or paper towel it dissolves the ink pretty fast. I actually just pour the bleach right onto my hands and rub them together really quickly to get the ink off and if you don't do this fast, for some reason your hands start to get HOT prolly because of some sort of chemical reaction. So I wash it off really fast and this method also dries your hands out but I just moisturize more often. Jus' sayin'.
Thank you for sharing this! I didn't think you talked too fast or moved your hands too much, and I didn't think it was disorganized. It felt like sitting with someone and carrying on a conversation, these types of tutorials appeal to me the most. I clicked the Subscribe button and look forward to seeing more of your videos!
I tried to do this about a year ago but barely remember the steps I took. I didn't watch any tutorials, I basically put a marker (without taking it apart) in a container of rubbing alcohol and let it sit a day or two. I noticed a lot of gritty-looking stuff in it, I'm not sure what it was but it looked like kool-aid chunks that didn't get mixed in well. I am positive I did something wrong, I didn't put a lot of effort into it. I will definitely be trying this method, though.
A question...do you think another brand of permanent markers would work? I'm thinking the cheap Dollar Tree markers, but am unsure of the quality of the ink in them. I have Sharpies but if I don't have to spend as much on the marker that would be great.
It would definitely be worth it to try other markers. I got a really good deal on the Sharpies so that's why I used them. Thank you for commenting & for appreciating my video! This was one of the first tutorials I did so it's not as great as it should be but hopefully I am getting better. Thanks for watching!
Watching this a year later .... but I agree with Barbara... I enjoyed your video and was thinking the same thing, felt like I was right at home ... I even subscribed before I was halfway through the video .... it just made me know you are human like me!! After watching I was going to comment and read a few mean ones ... but stay true to yourself and be you!!! ♥️
Hi, Janelle. I thought your video was akin to Stream of Conscious - your actions were based on your thought process - not some script. I do understand the comments about writing down what you want to be sure not to forget, only because on my channel I’ve made a couple of vids where I forgot to share a few points. (That tends to happen when I make vids late at night when I’m tired). I thought yours was a great tutorial because I could totally do what you did - which was the whole point, right!😉I’m glad you posted this video - you helped a lot of us. Thanks!!🙂
amazing!!! thank you soooo much
Thank you for sharing your skills so kindly with us you Rock...
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the hand sanitizer can be used to clean up... it contains alcohol in it so it could be used to clean your crafty alcohol colour mess :)
+AboveParrCrafts yes, I do use it for that. Sometimes it dries my hands out though- especially in winter.
How do you clean your hands without ruining your manicure?
I love this! I’m wondering if using one of those toothpaste rollers would work when squeezing the ink from the cartridge?
+Kristi desalsa I’m not sure. It would squeeze out the ink but would it just get all over the tool & not into the bottle though? I’m not sure. It’s worth it to try.
Fun! Love the colors. Question for you - do you feel like it is more cost effective to make your own? Is it worth all the work it takes to do it? I haven't compared yet, but wondering if it is just as cheap to buy them. Thanks for sharing - the color is beautiful!
+Tami Moreno it is definitely cheaper to make your own. Alcohol inks are pretty expensive to buy. It probably varies where people live but they are slightly hard to come by in my location & expensive to ship here.
Will this work for resin?
I know this is an old video and I might not get a reply but what is the cost effectiveness of this over buying alcohol inks? I love this video and want to make some but am wondering if it's cheaper to just buy some.
+Linnie Elle ASMR it depends where you live. For me, it is quite hard to get any alcohol ink at a store. I just have a michaels in my city. They don’t get much new alcohol inks in so I need to order it usually. That can take time & shipping costs. I live in what would be considered a remote norther Canadian city. So for me, it is cheaper because even when I can buy alcohol inks they are usually more expensive than they would be in a major Center.
Do you find that going thru this is much cheaper than buying them already done? Since you have to buy the bottles...alcohol...the sharpies...the sprayers?
+Flowers Flowers for me I do as it is hard to get the actual alcohol inks. As I mentioned in another comment to you, I’m in a remote location, so access & shipping is not as convenient.
Would it work with sharpies that have dried out?
As long as it only dried out, the pigment should still be in the cartridge. So it should work almost as well as as a fresh one!
Great idea
I don't know why, but the sound of the sanitizer emptying from the bottles makes me very happy.
Small gloves is what I have to use. I do hair, so the small latex are better!! Also I will be using something I can close to soak my markers in so the alcohol doesn't evaporate!! ❤️
Thank you for sharing your tips
Sorry to show up late to the party, 😳 but did you notice any color deviation between the 70 and 99 percent alcohols? I have both (buy 'em for a buck at Dollar General), but want the best color saturation for my effort. Thanks for sharing and for the great vid! You did a fine job. 😘
chrome oiran I was wondering that as well because she demoed a very interesting way to make inexpensive alcohol inks
Can I add some pearl powder to some
I just bought several bottles of alcohol ink at a yardsale...could i add them to alcohol to make sprays like this?
Leanne Slack yes definitely!!! I would just start with adding a little alcohol so that you get the effect you want. Don’t add too much at once.
Does all permanent markers have oil based ink or are they different? I couldn't find sharpies here.. The permanent markers that I've been offered are oil based ink permanent markers.. I just want to get my doubts clear about this.. If I use those markers would that make any difference..?
. Please guide.
You need to use alcohol based markers. Most permanent markers are alcohol based.
What kind of carrying case or box do you use for all your bottles? I'm going to buy a dollar store box then line it with sponge and cut my own openings to hold my 24 of my 60 mil/2oz bottles.
+Jude W that’s a good idea. I actually just have them in a drawer & I don’t usually carry them around with me.
A way to keep your bottle head from clogging, turn the bottle upside down and spray it until nothing comes out. After everything is finished coming out of it pump it a few more times so that air is the only thing that comes out(you're flushing the line) then wipe off the spot where the ink comes out. I was having the same problem with my spray paint cans when I was trying to do my street art. That and dunking the tip down in paint thinner to keep the end completely clean of paint or alcohol ink
+jsinprtn29 yes I do that with spray cans. These spray bottles are a little different though because of the glitter that they have in them. Many of the spray bottles I bought with ink sprays already in them were known to have problems & they were actually having to be redesigned because of this problem.
@@JanelleNichol oh ok, well, that makes sense!
Im the same way about not be wasteful. Thanks for your video as well!😊
It seems to me you can convert the sharpie to refillable alcohol inks just soak the nib and new slender felt like stick ink the ink and put back in the sharpie. You could even replace the nib.
Have you ever mixed your colors to make a new color and if so does it work well or make the colors muddy?
+Rebecca Holt yes, they mix very well. Just use the same principles you would for mixing colours with acrylic, watercolor etc.
JanelleNichol thank you. Very excited to try this. I have the markers and spray bottles. Just need to do it. Thanks again
You should try mixing some color w all the left over hand sanitizer. Might be cool.
Hey Janelle!! I’ve been wanting to try this for a while but just wasn’t sure if I wanted the mess or even the cost of bottles, sprayers and droppers. But when I saw your video and found out about the hand sanitizer I checked Walmart and I can get a 12 pk of hand sanitizer with sprayer tops for $20.43!! I think that’s not a bad price for the bottles, sprayer and even the hand sanitizer that I will use anyway!! Btw...what about the 70% alcohol vs the 99% alcohol? Could you tell any difference? I did notice that with the blue you made the core of the marker seemed like more of the color was out then the hot pink you done the day before with the 70%. I guess you would really have to to do the same color with one of the 70% and the other 99% to see if it really makes a difference. Anyway you really had an awesome idea about the hand sanitizer bottles!! I can’t wait to see what you make with all those beautiful colors of alcohol inks!! Thanks for sharing!!! 🦋
I’m not sure why but I do think using the higher percentage alcohol is better. I think it just has better effects etc. That’s awesome that you found hand sanitizer with sprayer tops! I haven’t found anything like that.
Great idea. Here's an idea, maybe Split the center cartridge like you did, but put it into the bottle with the alcohol instead of letting it sit for the 12 hours then trying to wring it all out and getting your fingers all inky. Then when you use up the bottle of ink just toss the guts of the pen and start over. Looks like you're a mad scientist having fun. Have a nice day.
+jerilee kerr yes, that is actually what I do now. I have filmed a redo of this tutorial & will be uploading it soon as this was one of the first ones I did. Thanks for watching!
Wow! Thank you!!!!
I'm wondering if it would be possible to make alcoholic ink by adding pure pigment to alcohol. Has anyone tried that? (Would be nice to skip pulling a bunch of sharpies apart.)
+Patricia Roshaven i can’t seem why not. Hmmmm- maybe I’ll do a video on that & see how it works. It will depend because that is how I make my DIY white & metallic alcohol inks but it’s different than the manufactured ones so it will depend on the pigment. But if it’s powdered pigment I can’t see why not.
How DO YOU remove the color from your fingers.. does it finally wear off??
+Lynne Henry Merrick ya I just wait for it to wear off. Maybe after a day.
I’m too lazy to do that ! I just ordered OHUHU alcohol ink markers from amazon 🤗
Use the hand sanitizer to clean up alcohol ink spills or excess alcohol ink from overspray :)
Wow thanks!
Great video! Do you think I can use 2 to 3 markers (same color) for 2 ounces of alcohol?
+Kai Minamoto you can definitely use as many or as little markets as you want & that will affect the intensity of the colour.
@@JanelleNichol Thank you so much for the response! I'll try it out. 😊
This video is giving me SO much anxiety to watch and hear but I appreciate you taking the time to do this
Ink= the base of art on paper
I know this video is a little older but was there any difference in the 71% and the 90% alcohol ?
+Candy Selph there wasn’t any difference but I have since learned that it is better to use the 90% as it blends a little better when working with it. Also, I have filmed a new updated video of this that is much shorter so maybe check that out as it might have some info on that. I can’t quite remember!!! Thanks for watching!!
+Candy Selph you can find the link to the new video right at the beginning of this one and in the description box.
