Just for fun: If you do the marker in alcohol technique with a yellow highlighter and really dilute it down, you can make ink that will only show up under UV light! Really great for secret messages (as long as the reader has at least a UV flashlight), clues to find gifts on puzzle card pieces ... etc. SO much fun!
The best part when it's all been made and bottled, comes after you've cleaned up. Shine the UV light over the sink, the counter, your hands, your workspace, your couch or commode or anything you may have touched while making it (or to a lesser degree, using it). You'll see what an epic mess was made. NO worries, easy to clean off of solid surfaces with alcohol. I wouldn't bet on it coming out of fabric surfaces.
Also, you can use this method of soaking the sponge holding the marker ink with dried up markers, so don't throw them out! Markers, highlighters ... make ink if they're "bad".
By definition they're UV reactive meaning shine a UV light at it and gives off whatever fluor marker hue in use. It's not fluorescent by any means because they if you held your highliter in the sun for a minute it would light up and hold a charge that's not true however. There's specific well pre-made paints too but I suggest look for UV powder they use to cast dyes of resin I use it too so in normal light a certain drawing has specific highlights and if I turn the light off it lights up yellow/green/sky-blue/deep blue/pink/orange that's up to you but remember it's a sorta metal flake you'll be adding so it if HAS TO be sprayed with a mist thingy then I'd reconsider otherwise UV or UV reactive powder. You can mix to your own will but I'll tell you right now I've tried this and with a flexible non luminous more plastic like flake? No problem. Any of the actual oxides you need to make it glow? That's why to me this while art form is a bit daft. Because it's pumped up with waaaaay more solvent then you'd ever need it's gonna kick out meaning your pigments let go you'll have a layer almost like you put down aluminium foil and then pigment solvent and some left over polymer emulsion split off from one another. Now it's totally done so in general id say no. You can make truly way nicer things with way more nuanced because what you get now you spray something thinner then water. The metal flakes will definitely stick out also by day and the when they're charges and it turns night and you didn't make it with a UV light in the room you won't even know if the glow after dark will work at all or maybe just fight against each other

I will try again on Monday with reinker and alcohol. I used acetate. The alcohol dried before reinker and it looked splotchy. Will try on different surface and let it sit longer before squirting it.

Hello! Well you can generally use anything that is non-porous. Yupo is the most well known I think but Grafix Craft Plastic is also popular. If you can find photo paper that is blank on the back (no logos) that words too but just the back , not the front. Hello! I have tried to make blending solution before but I just got the "recipe" here on UA-cam. It is really simple just requires vegetable glycerin and isopropyl. I don't know the ratios off hand but there are some great videos floating around here! Thanks for watching :)

Wouldn't it be easier and more sustainable to simply buy alcohol-based inks?
I wouldn't be putting water with it.
So I don't have the patience nor respect for the concept as it's really dang basic ass chemistry if we can call it that that especially ladies of a certain age like here start going all scientist over.. there's bio and denatured ethanol. How do we derive at denatured? What's being done?
70% alcohol works just as good with permanent markers
Goodness 😂you washed off PERMANENT marker.. not so permanent then hey? There's only one kind that's an oil based push nib with a highly vapid and sleightly corrosive solvent all the rest is permanent to about the strength of wodka. As those mostly are made W alcohol so water that 70% down it still works just slower 🤷♂️
