    Hi there, just wanted to let you know what I do for mine which makes sure you get the very most of the ink from your cartridges, I just take an exacto blade and run down the center and split it open so the core is fully exposed. Works great. I make a bunch in prescription medicine bottles and then pour some in spray bottles and that usually gives me enough to fill the bottles a couple of times. Thanks for a great video.

      Lori McGarrity TFW. Love your idea with the medicine bottles. I've thought about cutting them open after I posted this video. I'd like to get more of a dense pigment out of the marker. Its a work in progress. Always learning something new. Thanks!!!

      If you lie the medicine bottles on the side, does the liquid spill?

    • @Sheof3Angels
      @Sheof3Angels  6 років тому +1

      Michelle Martinez That's a great question. I just now went & experimented with 2 different bottles I have. 1 bottle I have I would trust is air tight & not leak. The 2nd one I'm not sure I would trust after a little time on its side. I could see the 2nd one leaking eventually. HTH

    Haha. Think the kid voice is funny.. my two year old daughter is watching w me and everytime it comes on she says. Alvin and the chipmunks mommy... So silly.. and laughs like crazy. Which in turn makes me laugh so thanks for bringing even more smiles to my house. Keep up the good work and if ppl don't like it .. they can learn from someone else.

    In all the years I have been watching people make, and making my own, alcohol inks, this is the first time I've seen hairspray added; wonderful suggestion. Thank you for an excellent and informative video.

    Hi there. I am a person who NEVER gave up coloring books. I collect Crayola crayons and pencils. I also collect Sharpie markers with all different. I even collect hig-lighter and white out. I am usually all things beads and baubles. In 2006 when Mummy was diagnosed whith cancer I needed to find a compact craft to transport to the hospital. Hence the beginning of quilling. I am going to use this method to create my own papers because I hate being limited to 1st 2nd and tertiary colors. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH FOR CREATING THIS TUTORIAL!!! Being a licensed cosmetologist, I have access to alcohol up tp 99%. Which is better? Does a cheap hairspray with tons of stickem power(like Aqua Net) work better or does a more expensive spray like Matrix work better? Keep creating and keep videoing. You are awesome. God bless you.

      +Kellyann Rawson TFW. I used a dollar store hair spray and it is sufficient for this type of diy. I would imagine the stronger strength of hair spray may clog the spray bottle so just keep that in mind. Hope this helps.

    Don't throw them away!
    Get a friend with a stronger hand grip to take them apart or use power tools to cut them apart, if nothing else just toss the pen into the alcohol tip down and wait to see if the ink will leak out that way.
    You could also try breaking the plastic with things like a nutcracker, wire cutters, a hammer, a saw, a kid's teeth (kidding, even though they are known for chewing through anything😝), etc.

    Hi. Yes, most eye shadow is made of mica powder. It can be used to color epoxy resin, acrylic paint and sealers, white glue, basically anything. You can also use it with your fingertips to color raised (or flat) clay pieces, textured papers, or anything with texture....just dab your fingertips, and rub it over the top gently so that only the top layer of texture is colored. Mica powders are amazing to work with. And just so everyone knows, start with a tiny amount of powder....it goes a very long way. It can be translucent, or opaque depending on how much you use. If she had crushed the eye shadow into a fine powder, it would have mixed up more blue more quickly. It does take a little longer for Mica powder to dissolve.

    just A friendly suggestion! You may want to try setting the camera over your shoulder. The angle that you use now make it difficult to see the amounts that you add. You have to tilt the bottle to show us and that of coarse makes the amounts tilt too.

    • @Sheof3Angels
      @Sheof3Angels  6 років тому +1

      TFW Annette. That's great input. I appreciate it and will see if I can make that concept "over the shoulder" work for me. I am limited on space. But I agree about the tilting skewing the visual amount. Really didn't measure just kind of mixed haphazardly.

    I have wanted to make glimmer sprays myself for quite some time now. I finally (for Christmas) bought myself a set of the Ranger mini misters. I need to buy Sharpies for the alcohol ink, but am wanting to make glimmer sprays with Perfect Pearls. Right now I can see what you do. Perhaps you will respond to this, Lori. I hope so.

    • @Sheof3Angels
      @Sheof3Angels  6 років тому +3

      +Donna Conaway TFW. I have watched other videos where they use the perfect pearls to make a glimmer mist. I just used items I had on hand to show you don't always have to have craft store products to make beautiful things.

    • @donnaconaway9368
      @donnaconaway9368 6 років тому +1

      Believe me, I do want to make glimmer mist from things I have at home. I bought some Perfect Pearls when I first began cardmaking and mixed media about a year ago. They were used by SMS Stacey in a video, but I do not remember what she did with them. I have not used the Perfect Pearls yet. For quite awhile I forgot where they were and now I found them.
      I would much rather have more colors and make paint sprays, mists, alcohol inks, and more myself. I did not begin mixed media and card making until a year ago. At first I thought you had to have craft store stuff. I do not even have a local craft store, so I binge watch videos on how to make things at home. Thanks for your video. What does TFW stand for?
      I guess I need to enter Making Mists with Perfect Pearls in the search and enjoy using what I have first. For all I know they have a short shelf life. I only bought four colors.

      +Donna Conaway That's what I love about yt and people sharing their DIY's. I don't have a craft budget so I have to be choosy what craft stuff I spend my money on. MizztresSRaVeN ... I know this is not ink-related, but another way to use the compressed eyeshadow sets (rather than the loose powder), is as a cheap form of a 'pan pastels' - they are usually sooo expensive! I tried it and it blends beautifully with a sponge or even eyeshadow applicator tool, especially liking the metallic, mica ones but any colour texture (matte etc) is great :) (I think one can also use gum Arabic and/or clear glue as a binder if making sheer, metallic inks too)

    Hi Lori J.
    ? . Do you put the hair spray only when you use the eye shadow, in you're alcohol ink?
    Or do you put it in all alcohol inks?
    I liked you're video, on making alcohol inks!
    Thanks,
    Francine Schmidt

      TFW Francine!!! I am so sorry it has taken soo long to respond. I have not been getting comment notifications on my yt videos for a looong time. BUT YES I only put it in with the spray bottles that I add eye shadow too. The alcohol inks don't need it.

    Can you use 50% alcohol or does it need to be a higher concentration of alcohol? I liked your video and thank you for sharing.

    • @Sheof3Angels

      The only thing the higher % of alcohol does is make it dry faster. So yes you can use 50%.

      Brian Conrad TFW, I did use 91% isopropyl alcohol. You don't have to. The higher the % the quicker it dries. HTH

    Thank you for sharing, I am new to mixed media and LOVE the shimmer paints, however I can't afford to stock up on every color that I find beautiful or that would be perfect to use in making a gift. This is WAY more affordable. LOL I had a chuckle as you were tapping the gold powder out of the pot; it sounded like a woodpecker and I had a mental image of a glitzy girl woodpecker trying to get that last bit of eyeshadow out of the pot. Corny yes but us artsy types picture odd things sometimes lol. Anyhoo thanks again!

    Hello!!! Very nice!! Just one question. You put something else besides alcohol in some cases. What is it???

    • @Sheof3Angels
      @Sheof3Angels  6 років тому +1

      +Patricia priano TFW. The only wet ingredients I used were alcohol & hair spray. Hair spray is added to help the powder "stick" to whatever you spray it on.

    • @patriciapriano2513

      Lori J Thanks a lot. Hair spray comes only in spray around here. Thats why I didn't catch what it was.

      I don´t know if I can get liquid hair spray around here... it only comes in cans, spray of course, but anyway, I can put a bit into the recipient. Thanks a lot again

    • @Sheof3Angels
      @Sheof3Angels  6 років тому +3

      +Patricia priano so you only have aerosol (canned) hair spray not hair spray in a pump bottle where you can unscrew the nozzle from the bottle? Maybe order some pump hair spray from Amazon? I have watched some yt videos where they use mod podge in the mix instead of hair spray. Just a thought. You just need something that will adhere it to your project. Otherwise you'll have fine glitter everywhere. 😜

    Hi Lori! I just found your channel. I subscribed and hit the bell too lol. I'm wondering what the shelf life is for these shimmer beauties? I'd like to have them on hand, but don't exactly know when I'll use them. Have a great evening and God's Blessings.

    • @Sheof3Angels
      @Sheof3Angels  6 років тому +1

      Hey Anna. I've had mine for quite a while. Since your using alcohol in the mixture it should have a long shelf line. As long as they are sealed the alcohol won't dissipate. TFW and welcome to the channel.

      @Sheof3Angels  6 років тому +1

      +Paula Carter TFW. Absolutely, I've used DT permanent markers and I they work just fine. You may not get as much pigment but you can always add 2 of the felt inserts. Hope that helps.

    Thanks for making your tutorial. BTW, how cute are those mini brushes w/LA Shadows? I made these about a year ago, but I added approx twice the amount of mica powder to each bottle, plus for good measure I added a squirt of a clear glue to the bottle, as well as the hair spray. How dark or strong you want the spray is a personal preference, I'm sure. The dry LA Shadows can be dusted over a Versa Mark stamped image, too, so they're really very versatile, not to mention dollar store cheap. Thanks again for showing me some things I didn't know I could do!

    Awesome! Have you ever cut open with a razor the 4 pieces of ink inserts? Does it change the effect?

    • @Sheof3Angels
      @Sheof3Angels  6 років тому +1

      +cutezpie00 TFW!! I have not tried that myself but I have watched other diy videos who have. Cutting them open just allows the alcohol to absorb the ink quicker. It doesn't change the depth of pigment. Does that make sense?

    • @gigi2004k
      @gigi2004k 6 років тому

      Arcia French you can cut the marker filters with a craft knife and then cut them down the center to get the most ink. Also just an FYI the sharpies definitely pull apart easier 😊 hope that helps a little.

      @Sheof3Angels  6 років тому +1

      KJ Starr TFW!!! And yes this is so true. One of my bottoms fell off recently and powder exploded everywhere. Good point KJ. Hence why I'm doing the annoying tap tap tap method on this video. To avoid exactly that.

      I went to dollar tree and couldn't find the little containers with the lids to transfer this stuff into. I found something better! The large pill container labeled S-M-T-W-T-F-S , worked perfect! It fits two of the eye shadows in each compartment. The transfer was clean and easy and the lid snap shut. Now I can spoon out the quantity I need and no mess and LOL... quiet! :) Your video was very informative. Thank you!
