I love "tuning fork". He's such a humble guy that simply loves to learn things. Even though he is an encyclopedia of knowledge, hes never pushy and he simply wants to do, see and learn. Brilliant dude.
Once again: these engines LOVE a little bit of boost. A small blower (not too small) pushing about 5-7 PSI into them and sure, they make a few more kilowatts, but the torque output JUMPS. I know this is the 3 litre version of the 6G engine, so if you wanted to rebuild it, it would be very easy to make it a 3.5 litre like in the later model Magnas and Sprintex used to make blower kits for Magnas that you could probably adapt onto this reasonably easily. 225 kW and 600 Nm of torque? Doable.
@@AdmissionGaming are you on drugs? Magna engines just keep going. We had a 2002 3.5 litre that we decided we were going to scrap, it was due for a timing belt and we couldn't be bothered for the value of the car. My 1992 NH Pajero has the same 3.0 V6. It's a great car so long as you are not into towing anything. Very capable off road and so incredibly reliable. I've had it for 10 years and it's the best 5K I have ever spent.
if you change the gearing in your diffs you will compensate for the bigger tires and regain a bit of its get up and go, with the added benefit of being more capable offroad.
They all come in on 225/80 R15 but they're all complied on 235/75 r15 because it's the same outside diameter and you can't get the Japanese size here. Plus I think he's got road tires on so tires are nearly best case scenario
Being basically the same as my 6g74 3.5L motor (Delica is 6g72 3.0L) you probably can not tune them but rather need a full new chip. I've called around to get a tune for my Pajero and keep being told it can not happen.
The automatic gearbox issue is likely speedo related, I just sold my '94 2800 TDi Pajero which has the Speedo disconnected/rerouted back so the autobox could work without getting confused, but you'd lose speedo/mileage. 😊
Very topical video for me, good to know that putting it into 4x4 takes away quite a bit of power. I've got a 99 Mitsubishi Pajero iO which has the same 4x4 super select system this has but it's the size of a Suzuki Vitara and only has a Lancer 1.8 4G93 engine. It's not fast at all but powerful enough to keep up with traffic, I'd hate to see how slow the auto version of my car is though.
I have a Toyota Sparky, which is basically a kei car 7 seater (no 4wd though but there was an option for it) It has an overdrive that took me a while to figure out, basically going up hills (it's only a 1.3) you turn it off, for popping to the shops you leave it on and let it do its thing
when you think about "4WD systems" that are supposed to get you out of a situation, they're not made to go over ~40km/h before they'll *jump* out of low gear (Suzuki Vitara, early RAV4, etc.) or you can do some driveline damage. I wanna see a beach episode with that van this summer.
Mitsubishi’s Super select 4wd system is designed to be put from 2wd to high 4wd unlock center diff to locked center diff high 4wd at up to 100km an hour, was originally designed for racing in the Paris/Dakar Pajero’s 😆
Lock up is cool. Mine will lock up in OD top gear doing 50mph in cruising situations. You feel the half shift if want to call it. After the muffler I had put on you definitely hear it way more now. Annoying part is most roads around where I live speed limit are 40-45mph. So unless you speed it doesn’t really lock up. Least I haven’t felt/heard it in cruising at the 40-45 range
Probably because with the front wheels turning he has to be careful to not turn the wheel. If you don’t hold it straight it tries to drive off the dyno.
4H = AWD, 4HLC = 4wd High Range Locked Centre, this provides 50% power to the front and 50% to the rear where as 4H/AWD will provide the most power to the wheel of least resistance. In saying that when off road I mostly use 4H unless I plan to try and tackle something difficult. I would have liked to see the Torque in Low Range, I know speed wise you will get nothing but Torque would have been good.
You don't actually need to be neutral / stationary to go between 2H and 4H in these - they have a fluid coupling and permanently locked hubs to allow you to shift to 4h while driving.
Can confirm my Elgrand had enough HP (or at least torque) to propel 8 of us down the highway to Byron Bay at 110kmph, bouncing off the bump stomps and the back of the bus passengers getting airborn as we sailed along
Disconnect the battery, disconnect the gearbox ecu. Pump the brake pedal 15 times or more. Plug everything back in and go for a good drive with a mixture of spirited and casual driving. These have a very basic learning gearbox ecu in them, you'd be amazed what a reset does for the driving characteristics of it
With an auto and the bigger tires it looses a fair bit of power. And, given the condition it was in when they got it the engine might be a little worn out.
Was driving an 89 pajero a little while ago and was surprised how not-slow it was. Given it's age and comparing it to other 4wd's of the time. But i allegedly ended up doing 150kmh on the highway in it.. AND it chirped second with ease. I wanted to buy it but the owner is a bit trashy. :(
