The towing vehicle clearly isn't registered for road use, this fact in addition to many other aspects of the demonstrated behaviour reinforces the group's intent to disregard all rules and a total lack of respect for the environment and others who access the area. Thanks for sharing MM. Cheers

I see the problem, most of them are sporting mullets, what do you expect? On the positive side, they appear to be extremely gifted in the art of not spilling a drop.
Matt you have been kind and very generous in your breakdown and assessment of this situation, this is just outright stupid and dangerous, there's a (assuming) perfectly good winch and perfectly capable (probably worth restoring classic) vehicle with no offroad driving skill demonstrated, made me angry and this crap spoils it for us genuine adventurous 4wd drivers.
The 4wd community needs you Matt as a leader to ensure our tracks stay open. These idiots only think of their fun today and they don’t care about tomorrow. You can still have an awesome time without destroying the tracks and vehicles. We need to follow other countries like the US to preserve our 4wd tracks for the future.
What a bunch of idiots. People like this is the reason why tracks get closed. No respect for the track or safety. It makes my blood boil. Keep up the great work Matt. 👏👏👏
This video is humorous because Matt is very cerebral and professional with his neatly trimmed beard, calm voice and laptop. However, the guy driving in the video is part of the IDGAF crew
I am with a US east coast club and have done trials in Appalachian Mtns from Maine to Georgia. Where I have seen this kind of thing happen is all to often when a guy sees someone ahead make it up the obstacle with what the considers a lesser rig and/or lessor driver. That makes them berserk if they can't make it over the obstacle as well. Sometimes the person ahead of you had good luck, or are simply a better driver. You can't make that have you get frustrated. Some days you are just not going to do it.
We have that breed in the states, they’re called XJs, and for decades they’ve been proving to the rest of us that you CAN do it the wrong way. Anyways, it’s best to just observe from a distance as they can spook easily and flip over on their backs; it’s both a defense mechanism and a display of dominance. We’re still studying their behavior.
11:30 thank you for clearing that up. Calling it how it is Matt, this was one painfully long goon exhibition and nothing was achieved but pure embarrassment. Shame that GQ was in good condition too. It took a bunch of goons doing a terrible job spotting and reverse sending it the bottom for it to finally leave the chat.
Yes, I was thinking the same. I have a 1986 Jackaroo, and it is still a ripper 4WD - actually the old ones are better than the new ones - as they are easier to repair in the bush and have less electronics etc (i.e less things to go wrong).
First time I've seen this full video but I have seen clips of the roll over numerous times. All I can say is this video epitomises everything wrong with the 4wd community. The alcohol, the reckless driving even right down to the footware. I'm fine with people wanting to do hard tracks but the whole careless attitude not just for the vehicle but the environment. Everything we see in this video is what I hate seeing among the 4wd community. Sadly there seems to be a growing number like this and it will give National Parks, Forestry, whoever all the reason they want to close tracks, camps etc. Not to mention the rubbish left behind. God knows how many ton of rubbish we pulled out of the bush today for Clean Up Australia Day but there was heaps and it was just a small area we worked on.
When I first got into the offroad scene pre-covid, I always struggled in making 'quality' mates my age. Never wanted to send it, get on the drinks, and roll vehicles, yet everytime a 'meet' is organised it turns out similar to this scenario; ego, adrenaline and right foot - not interested in seeing someone lose a limb. Need more 4WD Clubs focused on young folk, lead by experienced role models. I'm also inclined to say that if you publish videos like this, which does promote the act to others, you should face fines for littering, drinking while operating a vehicle, and reckless driving - possibly loss of license, if this was a commodore in suburbia it would go that way. It's one thing to have an accident, it's another when it's clear arrogance and negligence.
look at the vehicles of those you plan to go out with before you go is a massive indicator . most of us out there would be more than happy to take a tag along learner so to speak. tidy well maintained cars youll usually find a level headed driver. wheel hard wheel properly camp clean bury your business and enjoy it
I’ve been 4wding for around 26 years now and I have seen a fair bit in that time. Sadly, social media is driving this sort of behaviour amongst younger people. It’s so refreshing to see that there is someone from this generation that is completely the opposite. Keep doing you, mate. Follow and learn from those that don’t subscribe to the smash and bash way of driving and you will do well. Hopefully you’ll inspire a lot more people in your age group to do the same. 👍🏻

The sad point is that this video on another channel will be filled with comments like "sick" and "Good onya" . There are ridiculous numbers of channels that show these actions and garner huge support from the comments. It is absolutely why we cannot have nice things.
This is why they are closing tracks around Australia if they did get injured or there was a death they could take action against the park. Then the track will be closed. Great one what a bunch of Idiots!

Your restraint is commendable. Love the tips you're giving and thanks for mentioning track destruction. This is the type of stuff that increases everyone's wheel size.
Well done on this one.. I do appreciate the uncomfortable topic of “Natural Selection” , but at the cost of what?!? More tracks being closed. Definitely an Interesting conversation starter nonetheless.
Thank you for the video. Yeah, everything about this video takes me back to when I was a young man. Beers and all. Lucky to be alive and lucky I did not hurt anyone. Feel like someone was looking out for me...and them too.
They obviously don't care about the vehicle, hence the aggressive driving. They went there to film an 4X4 action scene for their channel and not to enjoy nature/scenery. It's the same scene here in NZ and are tracks are getting closed one after another.
I am 59 and even though we never wore seat belts on road my rule in my vehicles was 'SEAT BELTS ON NOW OR GET OUT!" People always thought I was strange but common sense told me it's possible we might flip.I never did but have been in a few that did.

Yeah, but... those fellas ran down to help their bro in flip flops, without spilling their beers... That's class.. "Oh no my mate might be dead, so I'd better save my drink"..
Greetings from arnhemland! the points you've put out there is quite right, especially the seat belt part. I'll never forget when I was 17 and I was 4wding with a few mates. I was in my mates troopy riding passenger (leaf sprung front and rear) went up a steep hill and he gave a bit too much right foot, started to hop and it tipped to its left, (no seatbelt) and if it wasn't for my mate that grabbed me at the last minute as it tipped to the side I would've fell through and got crushed to death. Luckily it didn't roll down the hill as the trees stopped it from going any further. 25 years old now and looking back to it, made me realise why seatbelt is everything whether 4wding or not. Luckily it was a few of us, we pushed it back on all fours and kept going that day! Troopy is still kicking till now 👍
Appreciate this discussion. It really is trashing our environment in the same way it’s trashing the car. (often left in the bush) It also causes tracks to become inaccessible for others including fire fighters.
I am with you, Matt. Definitely NOT respectful of National Parks or there users/owners (us). Seem to have completely forgotten how easily 4x4s rollover on lumpy tracks, hence no spotter & no precautions!
I first notice the tyres look over inflated and need deflating for more traction. Just being a yobbo The short sort of driving should not be shown on places like UA-cam in the first place because all it will do was give evidence for people to stop anyone being allowed to drive there in the future .
Not sure if it’s the same is Australia. But 1 issue here in the UK, assisted from the general disregard for any kind of Road regulations is that literally anyone can go and buy a 4wd (old discovery’s being popular) jack them up but aggressive boots on and go drive. The 4wd’s 9 times from 10 aren’t road worthy and the drivers are just out to get muddy with to regard for the country side, other users of the country side and in many cases the farm land that they ruin.
I am new to the 4x4 community so it is very valuable with these do and don´t videos. I think the thing that shocked me the most here is that even after the rollover, the guys did not even put down the cans when they went down to check whether the driver was still alive. Clearly show their priorities. I got the feeling they had not the slightest understanding of the seriousness of the situation.
Nice work again Matt (on your breakdown of it) it’s all been said now.. just a shame to waste parts for a GQ 😢 as you said they’re becoming hard to find parts for these days.. I hope people like that never get their hands on my GU wagon when I sell it of these days..
Very good explainer on how not to off road. Still learning myself so thank you for explaining it step by step. Seems some diff locks would have been stellar in this situation.
Thats how most in the States do it. Only our overlanders here don't destroy their rigs. Its a shame too because like you said its causing our track selection to dry up. We lost some trails in Utah
Wow, oh wow. Matt, you explained it perfectly. The care factor went out the window, as well as the water melon 😂. I believe that culture is becoming more rampant due to a couple of channels on TV and UA-cam. They love reaction videos and hope to score free shirts for destroying a vehicle for no other reason. Consumption of alcohol shouldn't be started until you get to camp, not on the tracks. The recovery was pretty much a fluke, and I was waiting for something else to happen
@@OnCountryWithMick Yeah, I didn't want to name names, but it looks exactly like the way they drive. Not that I watch them, I used to when it was a magazine and DVD. But yes exactly what and who I was thinking about.
@@DestinationOffroad I can tell you mate that you are sure not alone in this. I spent today with a heap of other 4wders, Forestry, Nat Parks, 4wd clubs etc etc for Clean Up Australia Day today and it seemed to be the same thoughts especially with the first 2, their names came up a few times regarding the promotion of bad behaviour in the bush. I too used to enjoy the DVD's and still enjoy Grahams Solo/Off Grid stuff but I won't watch anything with the others. Same as I wont sell out to brands for sponsorship if I don't believe in their products.
I can't comment I didn't know what to think of that dumb idea. We see that stuff in comp trucks but done properly. I'll guarantee that's not mounted properly and probably has the rope running next the the drivers legs.
Seen this video on face book a while ago, good inspiration for younger drivers like myself. Personally im not a flog it around person but im also fairly new and his advice is easy to understand
I agree with you about the time and place if they want to wreck a car. Sitting there spinning tyres digging holes just causes the owners to close more tracks on us. These people will cry the most when tracks are closed. Now I do watch Boofs channel and enjoy it but and the extreme things they do but destroying tracks is what they should stop for the benefit of everyone and the hobbie they/we enjoy so much
These are a good example of the mad buggers who get all the tracks closed. If you can't crawl up a hill it's pretty easy, just get the winch out and pull up it. I have never actually needed to use my winch in over 10 years of 4WDing but that is my philosophy for any situation. The driving we see here, especially on muddy tracks, just wrecks the tracks and makes them impassable. I have seen many tracks go from easy if you use your brain to rutted goat tracks in just a couple of months because drivers think that the only answer is more right foot. Good advertisement for old Patrols though, even these idiots can't break it until it goes on it's roof.
He reminds me of people I know, 'Don't confuse me I have made up my mind, power always wins. He would be best going over that obstacle in a Boeing. Like firearm's, any fool can use one, only a trained person can use one safely
Totally agree Matt, we watched this video on YT a few weeks back and came up with many of the same conclusions. The worst parts are lack or respect for safety, lack of respect for the vehicle, and totally lack of respect for the National Park. We are so lucky in Aus that we can access NPs in our 4x4s, but this sort of behaviour will get more tracks and parks closed, some of the authorities are just waiting for this sort of driving (and evidence) as an excuse to close off tracks and whole areas of our bush.
Keep up the fine work Matt, very disappointing to see this type of behaviour… as an aside , dogs aren’t generally permitted in National Parks… so I wonder if Parks will send these guys a little reminder of their adventures?
The Watagan Mountains is a large area made up of National Park & State Forest. Not to sure which part this was in but if it was in National Park lets hope they do.
First thing i noticed was his tire pressure, If you are running 38 PSI on terrain like this you might as well have 20 inch alloys and low profile tires for all the good the 12 inch steelies and 35's will do you. And no i don't know hes at 38PSI but from the lack of deformation they have at least 3 times more air in them than they should.
Matt, what was the Tinnie:rollover ratio? Dog seemed more concerned about the situation then the "Mates". We see this behaviour in State and Federal parks in the US as well. More often then not, they'll abandon the vehicle for someone else to cleanup. Especially if it's stolen.
i love it when people say us off-roaders are ruining the land, yet those same people are driving on tarmac roads built on fields and woodland over centuries. The earth has been naturally changing its landscape well before and after we were or will be here. Mullets, tells you a bit about the type of guys.
Reckless driving like what was demonstrated in this video is probably the biggest reason why local authorities are banning off-roading in many regions.
I could not agree more with your assessment on alcoholic beverages. Vehicles & guns should not be accompanied by alcohol. It also seems to me that many folks seem to just lay the long peddle on the floor and go but as you mentioned, it seldom works and when you bounce up off the ground and slam down again that is often how CV’s or axle shafts are broken.
Zero mechanical sympathy shown sadly. Regardless if you are wrecking it or not. I know we all want a good time and a good laugh but that driver has a duty of care for the passenger.
The “leave no trace” mantra should be applied to trails as well as camp sites. If your car and driver are not capable of getting up a track without excessive wheel spin then turn around and go somewhere else. These guys couldn’t have caused more damage unless they brought a digger! I can only imagine how they leave their camp sites.
@@FallingFlying. I was talking about the track damage, not the litter so I was drawing a parallel with “leave” no trace as it is normally used. I get your point with bulldozers though. Also tarmac buster bombs, they really leave holes. But the track hasn’t been bombed and I doubt a bulldozer has been through since the track was laid, so soft car tyres and the following erosion is pretty much the problem here.
Me personally i dont like breaking and fighting for every foot i get closer to somewhere a trailer can get. A crazy day offroad makes rough day at work a great day. I have had to walk 15miles and leave my rig until i got parts.
I think you were very measured. I enjoyed the video, thanks heaps. Even on private property, I don't understand that reckless behaviour. Some mechanical sympathy+ the right mechanical maintenance, and that would be a great vehicle for someone for another 20-30 years.
A lot of flogs drive them because they're cheap, tough and capable but there's also regular old people that drive them too. I love mine and it's never let me down
I'm in the US, and this is an example of how/why so many of our forest roads are gated and locked. My biggest gripe is the fluids, there's no reason that having a great day "guardrail racing" has to result in that kind of damage.
Pretty reckless. I feel that this sort of behaviour will get us all locked out
IS getting us all locked out, gates have been getting locked for a long time and they use this sort of crap to speed it up

The towing vehicle clearly isn't registered for road use, this fact in addition to many other aspects of the demonstrated behaviour reinforces the group's intent to disregard all rules and a total lack of respect for the environment and others who access the area. Thanks for sharing MM. Cheers
Dont be a karen
@@jangolub8240 Don't be a muppet and ruin the tracks for the rest of us. Grow up
@@jangolub8240Don't be a 🤡
He did state that's it's private land😂
Clearly the guy’s got the result they were after & would have kept going until the vehicle was trashed! It’s a shame, those Gq’s are great for the young guys to learn in & affordable & tougher than a bulls backside.
I really hope they cleaned the entire track, so there wasn’t a trace of this rollover ever happening or of a drink out in the bush. If not GO BACK & CLEAN UP YOUR MESS!!!
Thanks Mad Matt 👍
The dog was the smartest person on scene.
Thanks I do have to control myself.
Its dangerous to the person driving, they can do whatever thry want, they arent putting anyone in danger
I’m not against anyone owning whatever brand of vehicle they like. The more makes the better but Mullets, alcohol and GQ ‘s do tend to go together
I will probably upset a few people here but Alcohol and Patrols/Rangers seem to be very popular combinations.
totally agree, Rangers are Bush Commodores@@OnCountryWithMick
Alcohol bogans and Toyota's tend to go together.
Lol always see bogans in Toyota's. I'm proudly one of them
@AffectionateBoatLake-kd5in but this was a Nissan. Sadly the same applies for Nissan & Ranger drivers quite often at least around my area.
A good line is more important than a heavy throttle.
Politicians are why parks get closed. And then they strip mine the joint.
Yeah that’s a good perspective.
When I was a kid (in America) we called them thongs too
Nothing with embarassment. He came to destroy the car, trying getting up the climb pa didnt.
Like you said, do it on private property. We do not need this in our parks. This is what's getting them closed down.
Looked like a decent Patrol worth restoring, before they got to it.
In what world is that Patrol decent 😂😂😂.
Its an absolute junker.
Yes, I was thinking the same. I have a 1986 Jackaroo, and it is still a ripper 4WD - actually the old ones are better than the new ones - as they are easier to repair in the bush and have less electronics etc (i.e less things to go wrong).
@BSRTBeast you must be a young yuppie...show respect to things
Join A Club Mate, i spent my young years doing these Hard Korr Trips and Competition against other Clubs and Your Mates with descent people where it was amazing to complete these tracks and Harder without doing Damage. It's actually amazing to see a Car drive these without having to Spin the wheels aggressively and just use careful placement
Agree mate! I'm 27 and I'm about to start a lap next year, I'm interested in seeing the country and getting to unique places with my misses rather than f up the country
Decision makers for our 4wd privileges in public places sit it offices watching this stuff. We are in control of our destiny.
I just get disappointed knowing exactly what our future will turn into…. Very, very controlled and regulated.
Love your assessment. Looks like the tyre pressures weren't let down. Didn't see any sidewall flex at all.
Like the Winder towing guy says “mmm 40 psi”
The sad point is that this video on another channel will be filled with comments like "sick" and "Good onya" . There are ridiculous numbers of channels that show these actions and garner huge support from the comments. It is absolutely why we cannot have nice things.
It annoys me to no end seeing idiots destroying tracks and vehicles for views.
This is why they are closing tracks around Australia if they did get injured or there was a death they could take action against the park. Then the track will be closed. Great one what a bunch of Idiots!
Hi, Matt.
Your "diplomatic" comments are exemplary in every detail, a most admirable trait to possess, along with your ability to, exhibit your controlled contempt for these "cretins" in our society!
No dogs allowed in National Parks either!
Always insightful Matt. We've all made bad choices, but there were a lot of bad choices here. Absolute miracle no major injuries from this one. Hopefully it's given them food for thought. Very very lucky.
What not to do. I hope no-one watching will think they can do this because the recovery was successful with out more dramas. I think they were lucky nothing else went wrong with that risky recovery. Thanks Matt, it's a pleasure to watch your uploads.
Great example of why we are getting locked out of places. 🤬🤬🤬. Great explanation Matt.
hey mate, completely agree with where you’re coming from.
the way people use these cars is just stupid. i don’t understand the point in people destroying their cars “4x4ing”.
if they don’t want their car, many people would love an old gq to setup for themselves before it gets messed up by these muppets.
the way you described everything, (for example tramping), has led me to subscribe. you clearly know what you’re doing
This kind of video gives the Greenies and eco warriors all the ammo they need.
Sadly, this has been all over has socials for weeks already.
Good video 👍🏻👍🏻 also it is very clear that he have full air on the tires, just air down the tires you will have a lot more traction and softer hits on the drive terrain
Where i live there are very few short paper roads and they have all been ruined by guys digging huge holes and leaving rubbish behind, most have been blocked off now.
Definitely an
Interesting conversation starter nonetheless.
I wish more folks got selected. There's too many people out there ruining it for the rest of us.
I see what the Problem is, somebody put the steering wheel on the Wrong side of the vehicle. We can fix That here in Utah!
Well yeah it’s on the right side so not sure we have the problem. 😂😂 I wheeled sand hollow in a rhd xj that was owned by Casey Lofthouse.
@@MadMatt4WD I guess we Are on the Wrong side! Casey is a good, honest man, unlike some of the other UA-cam tampons around here. I love your vids Mate!
Troopy is still kicking till now 👍
Wow man you were so lucky.
Appreciate this discussion. It really is trashing our environment in the same way it’s trashing the car. (often left in the bush)
It also causes tracks to become inaccessible for others including fire fighters.
It's called being a goober.
No wonder great tracks are getting gated !
Fantastic commentary Matt
And that’s exactly why tracks are locked.
Just being a yobbo
The short sort of driving should not be shown on places like UA-cam in the first place because all it will do was give evidence for people to stop anyone being allowed to drive there in the future .
videos like this really demonstrate how useful lockers and especially reduction gears are.
Yeah totally agree.
Nice work again Matt (on your breakdown of it) it’s all been said now.. just a shame to waste parts for a GQ 😢 as you said they’re becoming hard to find parts for these days..
I hope people like that never get their hands on my GU wagon when I sell it of these days..
Fingers crossed!
Very good explainer on how not to off road. Still learning myself so thank you for explaining it step by step. Seems some diff locks would have been stellar in this situation.
Honestly for rock climbing the tyre pressure looks to high but as you say Matt not looking for the traction buy reducing the speed is biggy here
I was thinking the same about tyre pressures. Looks like they were still in thr 40psi club
Thats how most in the States do it. Only our overlanders here don't destroy their rigs.
Its a shame too because like you said its causing our track selection to dry up.
We lost some trails in Utah
If that was a Jeep XJ or a Toyota 4runner id think it was in the U.S.
Its a shame that so many get destroyed for Shits & Giggles.
4wd 24/7, All 4 Adventure, Built Not Bought. They are the big ones I sadly see inadvertently promoting this sort of attitude.
Actually my last couple of trips with others these names have come up with the same feelings. There are those of us that like to respect and look after the areas and those that just don't seem to care.
@@OnCountryWithMick Not when you can send it in for them to have a laugh and give a $50 voucher to spend. I do crazy things sometimes, bu I know when to winch.
@@DestinationOffroad That exactly right. Not too long ago theye did a video with Bushie from Back2TheBush sitting there talking about how we need to respect it and look after it more and int he next segment, their fails, theya re laughing and awarding prizes to people doing everything they just told us we should NOT be doing. Maybe they should do an episode, create an event and get others out for things liek Clean Up Australia Day showing people int he community actually doing their part to look after it. My video will be out in 2 weeks after yesterdays event. I really do think these sorts of people should eb called out more on their behaviours. I know they are much bigger than I will probably ever be but I will stand on my morals and always do the right thing, Im not going to trash the place for views, comments or likes. Same as I wont sell out to brands for sponsorship if I don't believe in their products.
I’d love to watch a “no restraint” commentary version of this video 😉👍🏽
I would like to hear your comments about the winch mounted behind the driver's seat, @16:35. Thanks professor!
Good stuff mate.
I agree with you about the time and place if they want to wreck a car. Sitting there spinning tyres digging holes just causes the owners to close more tracks on us. These people will cry the most when tracks are closed. Now I do watch Boofs channel and enjoy it but and the extreme things they do but destroying tracks is what they should stop for the benefit of everyone and the hobbie they/we enjoy so much
This is what King of the Hammers has created. I love KOH but it has translated to people on public trails. No technical driving just send it.
Yeah I know what you mean.
KOH is way too big now, way too many people and way too much alcohol involved. The public night events are just insane.
Awesome info madmatt .. these people are closing tracks down doing this stuff
Keep up the fine work Matt, very disappointing to see this type of behaviour… as an aside ,
dogs aren’t generally permitted in National Parks… so I wonder if Parks will send these guys a little reminder of their adventures?
I agree. My concern is more that land managers have the view you talk of and then go close the places we go wheeling.
Absolute dropkicks
We have local tracks like this. I hope they stay open. All you need is a winch for if you get stuck.
Thank God that there were no kids in the car.
Yes!
Reckless driving like what was demonstrated in this video is probably the biggest reason why local authorities are banning off-roading in many regions.
Yup, national park that will be close for four-wheel drives
I could not agree more with your assessment on alcoholic beverages. Vehicles & guns should not be accompanied by alcohol.
It also seems to me that many folks seem to just lay the long peddle on the floor and go but as you mentioned, it seldom works and when you bounce up off the ground and slam down again that is often how CV’s or axle shafts are broken.
Zero mechanical sympathy shown sadly. Regardless if you are wrecking it or not. I know we all want a good time and a good laugh but that driver has a duty of care for the passenger.
What's more amazing is that the incident gets posted! So many near misses here.
We call that axle wrap in the US.
This is such a good video. Really educational for someone just starting out. Love it!
Thank you so much!
All over the world we lose trails not only because of the behavior but because it’s posted and advertised as the thing to do to get likes and fame
Great video matt. You are spot on with everything you're saying.👍 Thanks for your knowledge and experience.
My pleasure!
Sometimes you just have to shake your head.
Ur observation / comments n advice... Remarkable.. 🎉
There was only 1 good boy in that clip. The only one not drinking.
Yes the dog
I think you were very measured. I enjoyed the video, thanks heaps. Even on private property, I don't understand that reckless behaviour. Some mechanical sympathy+ the right mechanical maintenance, and that would be a great vehicle for someone for another 20-30 years.
Patrol owners.....it's always patrol owners!
A lot of flogs drive them because they're cheap, tough and capable but there's also regular old people that drive them too. I love mine and it's never let me down
The commentary after the roll over was epic true off road ppl
This is why the bush gets locked up from idiots like this
I'm in the US, and this is an example of how/why so many of our forest roads are gated and locked. My biggest gripe is the fluids, there's no reason that having a great day "guardrail racing" has to result in that kind of damage.
