  • this job can be done, heating the head in the oven to around 150deg.
    as my head was still oily and I did not want the house filling up with smoke (again) I decided to boil it.

    Over the years I have been to the States twice,
    I love the country and love the people.
    One day I would like to return, so we could still have a pint :-)

    I did mine on the gas barbecue, this was at my wifes suggestion as I let it slip that it might stink the house out if I used the kitchen oven.
    It worked a treat so all credit to her.

    I'm sure that if you had put the guides in the freezer they would have dropped alone in the head.
    I did that for a drum bearing.
    It's funny to see a "pressed" bearing to drop in alone so quick without even touching it : )
    Nice job on the head : )

    Hi gordonemoore :-)
    I'm glad I was not using cast guides, as you pointed out you can hear when the guide contacts the head, and on the last one, it got an extra smack.
    Most annoying but no harm done thankfully.

    That sounds a grand idea MrFuckbone :-D
    It would be great to meet up.

    Another good one! You covered the point of getting the old guides absolutely free of carbon before driving them out, but I would add that when driving the new ones in, when they change note, audible in the vid, indicating they have contacted the head, STOP! Particularly if you are using cast iron guides. Not so important with these, but one more tap on an iron guide will usually break it and you get to start over. Do not ask how I know this...
    Boiling temp is exactly right.

    @medvedguzzi
    Hi Slavek :-) thank you,
    sorry for the late reply :-(
    I'm glad my vid helped with your Guzzi, most guides can be changed in a similar way.
    How is your Guzzi going did you complete your rebuild?

    Hi bartje :-) sorry for the late reply. No you will have to get the proper spring seat that fits over the guide. The danger is the valve spring getting "coil bound" all coils touch turning the spring into a bar. Damage will be at least a bend pushrod.

    UA-cam seem to have only given me 1/2 my allotted time and cut 5mins off this vid.
    I am so sorry and will upload the other half. This 5mins took 8hrs to download, so I am a little miffed to say the least.
    UA-cam "GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER" !!!
    sorry to viewers I'm just having a whinge!!!
    Will they listen "Will they f@#$"

    Hi MrFuckbone :-)
    If you are confident on the spanners give it a go,
    but remember the real name for a hammer is "expensive part locator" these are usually found around the part you are trying to hit :-D

      Sorry about that Lindsay, I'll try to speak proper England like what we used to did next time '-)
      As far as the job the guides are still running strong.

    @jock150
    Hi Jock :-)
    I bought mine at my local dealer's. I am not sure if they would work in a cub (I have my doubts)
    it depends how the valve spring goes on.
    If you make a drift don't drill the hole so deep, so it sits on the end of guide,
    as the bottom of a drilled hole is cone shaped damage to guide end should be minimum.
    Or you could draw them in using threaded rod and a couple of nuts and washers.

    Thanks michaelovitch they had been in the fridge (no freezer) a freezer would of been better. If you get the hot and the cold right, as you say they can drop straight in.

      Nennen Sie es wie Sie es vor 10 Jahren getan haben und es ist immer noch stark, das sind ungefähr 30000 Meilen.

    Her boyfriend says............"What a butcher" he's obviously boiled his own head or should do! Valve seats must be re cut after replacing guides to ensure valve is concentric to seat....Ade.

    • @lunmad
      @lunmad  7 років тому +3

      Hi Ade, I did this job 7 years and 18000 miles ago, if you look at #2 video you will see the valves are perfectly concentric. Why would I cut valve seats (this equates to miles) when all they needed was lapping.
      Each to their own the same goes for cranks and barrels that are bored and ground when there was no need shortening the life of a decent motor.

    • @stevebond3313
      @stevebond3313 6 років тому +2

      When you lapped them in you would have known if they weren't concentric anyway.
