Different brake noises have different causes within the brake system. Being able to properly identify the noise and know what is causing it will help you determine a proper solution. In the third video of our brake noise series, we talk about how a clunking or thumping noise heard during braking isn't normally related to the brake system.

A clunking or thumping noise is often confused as a problem with the brake system because you typically hear it when you hit the brake pedal. However, chances are the problem lies elsewhere in the vehicle.
    Suspension Issue
The problem most likely lies in the suspension of your vehicle. When a shock or strut goes bad, you may hear a thumping or clunking noise when you brake. This might also be accompanied by your vehicle nose-diving during braking. That is a key indicator that there is a problem with your suspension.
    Brake Cable
Another explanation may be the brake cable being loose or having too much slack in its brackets. If this happens, you may hear a thumping noise of the cable hitting against your vehicle when you brake.
    Loose Caliper Bracket Mounting Bolt
A loose mounting bolt that holds the caliper bracket to the vehicle may be the issue. This is an uncommon problem, but it may be the cause of a thumping or clunking noise.

I still have the same clunking noise after replacing my front and rear suspension, my sway bar and bushings. After having joints lubricated. It sounds like it's coming from the brakes since the noise stops whenever I apply the brakes. Only noticeable when going through uneven road's. Going to have the mechanic check it again next week.

@@davidBarrel it's still there I have a feeling it could be the control arm or wheel rotor. It's a little quieter but still noticable after going through pot holes or uneven roads. It's my mom's car so I don't spend as much time on it as I liked to and she just done a spark plug and coil pack replacement on it. Now we are trying to replace one of the power window motors but it's a rare part so it's hard to find another one. I believe it has something to do with the steering system....🤔 I say this because when I move the wheel left and right I still here the clunking noise. I've narrowed it down to there by having my suspension inspected and no faulty areas. Two, it's not the brake pins getting stuck because if it was it would also get stuck in park, which it doesn't. So has to be three.

I am experiencing this irritating noise back to back in my Toyota. Last year I had Toyota auris 18 plate only 9 k driven from Toyota dearlership when I reached on 16k I started noticing this noise on 19 k I decided to get rid of the car I thought may be it’s a small car so might not be solid built. So I decided to buy a Prius mk4 18 plate on 40 k same clunk/thump noise coming from my Prius though it’s been serviced on time with dear ship. When I stop my car while pressing the foot break car make noise, when I reverse my car and realise the break slowly it make noise or when I start the car and put it in drive mode as soon as I lift my foot slowly from the break car makes this torturing noise. I believe it’s nothing to do with break pads discs tyre as everything in my car is in pretty good condition. The sound comes from somewhere near suspensions or engine bay area. From front back both. I feel that may be car joints or ends or rubbers need proper greasing or may be rubber or bushes are worn somewhere. But no exact idea. But whatever it is very torturing.
Like other solid cars like merc it shouldn’t sound when you apply break and car goes little downward or even when you reverse it stop very firmly and smoothly.
Also this noise has nothing to do with shocks.
When you drive fast and apply break this sound wouldn’t come up. It’s only comes up in very slow speed infect right before going into stationary within 0 to 5 miles.
The funny thing is nobody knows where the problem is.
When they check my car all tierod end, ball joint suspension, alinement, wheel balancing, breakpads, discs, tire, bleeding break oil they find it spot on. So they handsup.

    1) Begin applying brake pedal pressure,
