I have just killed my second plant from overwatering. I took it out of the pot to let the roots dry out-maybe it will come back. Yours is a very informative video. Thank you!
thanks, this is one of the plants I am determined to grow, and I've lost a couple. I have some strands of the variegated right now, so far so good but I watch them like a hawk! LOL
Hi! I’ve been thinking of starting a String of ______ collection for a few weeks now. Learned more about SOPs in this video than several others that I’ve viewed combined. New sub for sure! Thanks!
Thanks so much for this video!! I just got a string of pearls yesterday. I usually apply pest control on newly purchased plants. do the pearls need it as all?
Personally I think it is the hardest to grow easy plant I have ever tried. I have about 60 plants now most of them happy, but the sinecchio just never makes it past 6 months.
I prefer to use terra cotta pots for all of my succulents. Terra cotta pots will GREATLY help with overwatering as they are porous, allowing water to evaporate through the pot, making the soil dry faster. And aside, they are hella cheap and look nice 😂 hope this helps!
Thanks a bunch! May I ask what the purple/maroons colored “tree” looking plant in your terracotta is! There’s also one on top of the white plant stand I think?
I love your video but I notice that no one talks about hot temperature always about how to protect them from cold weather not from heat like Arizona desert
That's a good point. I think it's because we always think of succulents as desert plants but String of Pearls, in particular, need protection from intense heat or at least direct sunlight. How are they doing in the Arizona heat?
Same!! I'm thinking it's maintaining too much moisture in it's nursery pot. I'm going to try replanting it today in a small terracotta pot. I don't know what else to do! It's sad seeing the beads on top mushy, wrinkled. I haven't been watering it at all but it's still holding onto that water and not drying out. It's so frustrating because it's a beautiful plant and I don't want to kill her. :(
Sorry for the late reply! Is it getting too much sun and burning? If it is, try moving it someplace where there’s less direct sun. Also, is the pot too deep? Maybe there’s too much soil in the pot and that’s why it’s retaining water. Did you use a fast draining soil? I’ll try to get some healthy stem cuttings and replant elsewhere just in case...
I just had my first horror story with mealy bugs and I could not save my two foot long, 10 inch wide string of bananas. I killed them on the string of pearls by using alcohol and rinsing them off; however, I really need urgent advice on how to get neem oil off of the pearls (one of them) and the other, due to rinsing so much to rid the mealy bugs, the pearls are rotting. I am scared to death to loose these . What are my options here. Should I just let the plant dry out? and the one with neem oil on it, I have been washing with soapy alcohol water-letting it sit five minutes-and rinsing off but the pearls still feel sticky. Will this prevent the plant from growing? What can I do?
I would move it away from direct sun right away. A bright location but protected from direct sunlight would be better. The shriveled part may recover after watering if it’s just dehydrated. But if they’re sunburned and shriveled that area might not recover. You can take cuttings of healthy parts and replant. The stems should root in a few weeks. Good luck!!
These plants can be tough at first. It took me a while too. They seem to like a little bit more water than most succulents and also less sun. Good luck!
I have a very small string of pearls and each time a new bead comes in it turns brown before it even gets the chance to start growing. I've been trying to find what I can do to make it grow without dying and haven't figured it out. I've moved it closer to a window and tried watering more and watering less. Has anyone else had a problem like this before?
Honestly when the pearls feel sticky like they stick together that’s when I water them and I only bottom water because otherwise they will start to die off up top, but I have mine indoors.
From my experience, they love the rain. But then again, it doesn't rain excessively here in my area. It's usually dry here so when it rains they love it.
Hi, I'm not too familiar with foot candle measurements so I don't know how to answer your question. Afternoon sun is usually ok for my succulents outdoors, but they need to be acclimated to the heat first. Mature plants usually do better than baby plants. Definitely not for cuttings though. My suggestion is, once you see brown spots or sunburn spots, move them right away to a less sunny area. Good luck!
I had to reupload this video due to potential music copyright© issues 🎵🎶 used in the previous video.
Best info ever, everyone says that they are easy and breezy, which they are certainly not.
Agreed. That's why I'm here lol
Thanks! Yes, these String of Pearls can be tricky
@@succulentplantcare373 Mine mostly died already, currently trying to save some cuttings I took!
Thank you… mine just seem to disappear. They don’t shrivel, they just are fewer and less every time I look at them. 🥺

Best advice I’ve heard for string of pearls! Also the first time I’m hearing to repot newly purchased string of pearls makes so much sense, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I’ve heard it’s good to repot other plants when you get them too. Like begonias.
Most all store bought plants should be repotted when brought home!!
thanks, this is one of the plants I am determined to grow, and I've lost a couple. I have some strands of the variegated right now, so far so good but I watch them like a hawk! LOL

It's scary waiting to see the beads begin to shrivel up . . . It's like waiting to see your child show signs of dehydration before feeding him 😩
I know the feeling! 😩
Omg YES🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼
Thank you so much for this I just received a cutting from a friends

I hope that one day I could have a nice collection also , if I learn not to kill them lol
Great video.. your strings are so beautiful 😍
Very informative! Thank you! 1 question- must they be in terra cotta pot only? I've read this in other places.
Thanks for watching! I don't solely use terra cotta pots for my String of Pearls. I've used plastic, terra cotta, ceramic...

@@succulentplantcare373 as you said no straight sun and lots of water when is over 100 ,, they are doing well so far
great video and tip
You have a great collection
Thanks 🥰
My SOP is shrivelling at the top and turning darker coloured. This would indicate it "needs water" but the soil is still really moist. Help.
Same omg someone help us

I am from tropical monsoon climate , humidity is high, should not I water it once a week?? And aslo should I not put the root in deep? Plss reply
What can I do to help my string of pearls to recover from direct heat they shriveled:(

oh no wonder mine kept dying. i treated them like my other Catus and gave them direct sun
What about string of heart plants
Ugh...both my strings (pearls and tears) are the only plant of my 30+ collection struggling hard.
These plants can be tough at first. It took me a while too. They seem to like a little bit more water than most succulents and also less sun. Good luck!
thank u so much

my string of pearls tips are just strings but no pearls...
Profound tip. Thx for sharing.
I’m having such a hard time with mine.
These plants can be tough. It's also getting cold and they don't do that well outdoors in winter.
I have a very small string of pearls and each time a new bead comes in it turns brown before it even gets the chance to start growing. Hi I’m not sure why it’s turning brown. The only time I’ve seen that happening to my string of pearls is when they get too much sunlight
This is incorrect. All strings of things can handle some direct sunlight, you just have to acclimate them.
I guess it depends on where you’re located. Where I am, intense afternoon sun can kill them no matter how acclimated they are
I would say direct morning sun is fine, it’s less intense. My SOP absolutely loves direct morning sun!
😍😍😍
Why do my string of pearls feel sticky sometimes.
Honestly when the pearls feel sticky like they stick together that’s when I water them and I only bottom water because otherwise they will start to die off up top, but I have mine indoors.
Doesn't the rain ruin the string of pearls?
From my experience, they love the rain. But then again, it doesn't rain excessively here in my area. It's usually dry here so when it rains they love it.
Maybe they get better airflow outdoors helping to dry the surface
@@alliecatnz thanks
i have a variegated one. is afternoon direct sun of about 550 foot candles ok for them indoors? i live in connecticut.

Lots of music, lot of pictures, not much content.
Some good information here, but that video was terrible!
