Good luck with the training for London and Valencia - I am also using Runna and currently in week 1 of my training for the London Landmarks 1/2 Marathon targeting a sub 1:45 finishing time.
Good luck with your marathon training block. I used Runna for the first time in the autumn for a half marathon block and knocked 5 minutes off my PB. It will be interesting to see how you get on with Runna for a marathon block. I have not decided if I am doing a spring marathon yet as there are a few trail races I have my eye on. If I do I will be using the Runna app again.
Thank you, it will be interesting to see how the block progresses thats for sure. Great work on the half PB, how dod you find traning with the app? Ill be posting weekly videos on my progress with Runna so im sure lots of good things to come.
@@gimoruns I found it very rewarding but quite tough. My 5k PB is only about 90 seconds faster than yours but I typically do more mileage so I chose the elite plus to get the required mileage. The mileage ended up being correct but the intensity of the runs was on the limited of being too much. I did not realise until over half way through that Runna keeps updating the estimate as you go through the block. I started my half marathon block based on a time of 20:53 and by the end it was using a time of 19:29. I have no idea if that was something it just does or if it was based on how I performed on the workouts. If I do a spring marathon it will be for the experience so it will be interesting to see how to use Runna to train when I am not after a PB. For context I am 50 years on and I have been running for 5.5 years. I was also in a position where my longer distances were not near the estimates because I did not have the endurance. Therefore the last couple of years I have focused on building up my mileage and not worrying about time too much. What you find is the more endurance you have the times start getting faster anyway. My fastest 5k time is 20:53 this year and I got 3:27:30 for the marathon which is close to the times that were estimated for you. It is possible if you are patient and continue with the structured training.
@@davenapier I think we arent too far from each other to be honest, your story is very much reflective of me. Im also 50, and our 5k times are quite close so i can see how Runna is predictinf a 3:34-3:43 marathon time, which is pretty much what you managed to run. So thats really quite interesting. My endurance isnt where it needs to be also, ive had a series of injuries since running, shin splints, so ive always had to adapt my plans. I will be making some adjustments to th Runna plan, turning one of the speed sessoins into a longer endurance run instead as i really need to build my distance endurance. I wasnt aware that Runna adapts the estimated time as training progresses, but i guess it kind of makes sense as it tracks your sessions and the times/distances etc you achieve during training. I will definately be keeping an eye on that as i progress through this block. Cant believe i didnt notice that while training for my half marathon back in October!
@@gimoruns you can look at old plans. You can see if the estimate for your half is the same as when you set it up. I just did that to get my estimated time as I could not remember but knew it was in the 19s.
I came across your videos looking for advice on what app to use for my first half marathon im gonna test out the runna app thank you for the detailed video
Very interesting summary of the Runna app. I am 72 years old trying to beat 5hrs for the Brighton marathon in April which would give me good for age and have returned to running after 30 or so years of not running 2 years ago. My pb for a marathon back in the 80/90’s was 3.09 and unfortunately although my head is back in the day my body isn’t however my long runs have been done on time varying between 2 1/2 hrs to max 4 hrs which i did for the MasPalomas marathon back in November but could only achieve 5hr 22min. After a long winded summary my question is do you think the Runna gives consideration to age a question I ask as it is important for me to run every other day in order to give my legs the chance to recover. For interest my latest half marathon time is 2.16 and 5k 29.13. Many thanks and I have subscribed and liked as I did enjoy it. Trevor
I’m on week one of the Runna training plan. Have you experienced a missing first second or so of the spoken instructions when using the app from the Apple Watch or phone? Great content, will be following your progress.
Good question. The Runna app sets up your sessions and sends them to your watch, you then use your watch and the prompts/pace guides on your watch to manage the session. Ill do a few videos on how Runna sends sessions to your watch nrxt week so make sure you're subscribed to see them. Hopefully that will help answer your questions a little better.
21:58 does runna provide running dynamics feedback to improve running form? Example would be throwing into the training plan activities that reinforce dynamics - or even “just” comments saying that some defined form could be improved
What would you do if you get an injury? The app doesn’t seem to know how to manage that. That would be a killer feature, something like referring the injury and it’s degree and manage workout accordingly, like stopping, just do strength and mobility, reduce mileage/kms, or other options.
This is a really good question and one I’m doing a video on in the coming weeks as I’ve had a recurrent shin issue that’s effected my training. The app doesn’t know if you are injured and it’s down to users to adjust training based on the injury. Agree it would be a great feature but the varying issues out there and people individual recovery time would make it very hard to manage. Keep you eyes out for a video covering this coming soon 👍🏻
On race day do you use Runna to ensure you’re running at the correct pace? Also can you set your desired finishing time to aim for, for example maybe I want to run a half marathon in under 1:50.
No I don’t use Runna on race day even thought the last session of a plan is the race. I work out my own pacing based on the time I’m going for and I make sure I know them, and I have my watch sent to 4 sections - distance, time, lap pace and average pace - these 4 give me all the info needed to make sure I’m hitting pace.

What’s the app/site you’re using for capturing your PBs?
I use Garmin and Strava to log my runs from my watch
Does Runna cover nutrition plans?
I can’t see that it does, other than running you can set up additional plans for strength work, Pilates and mobility. Nothing on nutrition
