I’m a Vietnam combat veteran. We did this daily. Week after week, month after month. Focus on the result becomes intuitive. Thanks for sharing this story. Our nation is as great as it is because these pilots viewed the mission as a whole entity not those in the air and those on the ground. Big picture thinkers create a pathway for all to succeed.

Because people are lovers of themselves and would never admit that they need others as much as they do. Because doing so is a sign of weakness to them. So they listen without admitting that what this man is speaking is facts.

I so want to share this with the president of our company, but I don't want to rock the boat. An empty company full of dedicated employees is a shame. I may share this with him, wish me luck, or blessings, or positive energy, or just say a prayer if I do. I'm struggling for sure, but the struggle is still alive.

On a more normal life threatening scale I have done something like this twice. Put myself in direct harm to protect someone else. When someone asked why I did that for a total stranger. About the thank you note.... the one that is written on an email, feels so impersonal, because it could have been copy and paste to hundred people or another 100 times. A note written on a postcard or letter, involves buying an envelope, a stamp $0.65, and dropped at the blue collection box or post office. Now , this feels more personal because of all steps and effort put into sending that written note. Nothing that comes free has any value. Excellent.

If you watch some of his other videos he discusses in the military how the leader eats last to ensure everyone else has enough to eat and how this builds trust in the teams. If I remember correctly he has a book out called Leaders Eat Last. I do understand what you mean though.

    • @nirfz
      @nirfz Рік тому

Well, the thing in the military (and it still depends because even there you might find the bad leaders too) is that trust is way more important than in private firms: Each military leader needs his subordinates to trust him when things get real. And not just trust him as a person but also trust in his decision making and ability to lead. (You can trust a person but have no trust in their ability to do their job. 2 different things)
And the stakes are higher because his subordinates are armed and dangerous and lives are on the line.
It isn't uncommon in human history that in times of conflict soldiers have killed their own leader if this trust wasn't there. Doesn't often happen on the private sector...
Sure that is and was punishable by court martial in any armed force, but for that someone has to know and accuse them first. Not going to happen if it happens far from the eyes of anyone outside the group.
And the thing that good leaders also understand is what he mentioned about prehistorc times: the common soldier is the one expected to do the fighting and if need be dying, so they are the ones to get fed accordingly.
That is something at least some militaries teach their leaders: "you need to see that your soldiers are as intact as possible because them being intact ensures that they are even able to do their job."
The same is true on the civilian sector, but i think it's seldom seen this way and taught this way.
(then again i had a little leadership training in the mil, but not on the private sector.)
Napoleon is quoted to say "an army moves on it's stomach" -> Or like we said (my translation into english): No bite, no fight.

I agree with the majority of this, but I recently read an archeological study that found the alphas in some civilizations didn't eat first, but where often the last to eat, ensuring that the weaker would have what they needed to gain strength. Both work I suppose.

Around 42:00 “our jobs are killing us” is my morning war cry to start the day. This country does an awful job pretending to create leaders. And it is leading to huge problems I thinks we or more likely, our children will suffer from the most out of any generation. “America best country in the world?” Ya maybe in some areas. It’s also hugely failing in key areas. We need leaders in politics not people that punt issues around like a one party system pretending to be a two party system.
Out with the old, in with the new, I say.
    Hopefully.
    Or we are all doomed

His rhetoric is on the right track, but I go so much further. There are "benefits" to being the alpha = good system. This is not just inaccurate, it's not a good or positive description. I prefer to use the rhetoric of a "creator" class. The people who come up with ideas that not only the people want, but is good for them as well. That still doesn't mean they should get first dibs on the food and sex partner. Rather it's the people who support the creators and do things that inspire them that should get first dibs. I put them above everyone because it's the best way I can articulate the general framework of a just community. There's a big difference there, because most of the people who he's calling an "alpha" use all kinds of devices of deceit to divide and subjugate the others for their own selfish benefit. Everyone can clearly see that, they don't know how to articulate a better plan going forward.

It’s why leaders eat last, but the whole lecture was pretty much the answer. Basically, his point was that a leader puts those working under before their needs or personal gain. And rather than being an authority figure which would be a person like a boss that took promotion for financial/personal gain, a leader is someone is actually puts effort and works more/harder so those around succeed.

Ivonne it’s because of this generic UA-cam channel. Everyone saw this on different channels. I have no idea who this channel is about, it’s weak though. I just clicked to listen to Simon while driving. Why is the channel weak? Because all they did was add famous videos to their channel to earn money, it doesn’t mean I trust a single thing the actual person says. The person that runs this channel has less trust from me than the leader of a Pyramid Scheme.
