What a fabulous video to watch on a Sunday morning, coffee in hand. Trena really has surpassed all the other craftsmen on UA-cam by adding the teaching aspect as well as entertainment. This video shows the patience and art required by a true craftsman. My favorite is watching her make the molds and replacing the missing embellishments. She and her father are my absolute favorite team.
This has to be one of the most difficult pieces you have restored. When you describe your plan to effect the needed repairs, the confidence in your voice is amazingly clear. You have a unique ability to turn something abused into a thing of beauty. Another reason why I for one am addicted to seeing your channel and the work you do
Not only are these pieces interesting, but they are also common items overlooked in most Canadian towns and cities because of the amount of detail required to bring them back to beauty. Your degree of mastery really shines through these fiddly but delightful pieces. I would be proud to own it.
That was miraculous young lady. From basically nothing to a piece that anyone would be proud to have. I bet your dad is more than proud of you. Thank you for sharing.👍♥️
I think that the appeal I have for your videos is soaking in the process and your approach to achieving the work of art that is the final result.I do not remember a single item that you have restored that I would not have been proud to have in my home.Love your personality and consider you and your family my Canadian buds.
Watching your meticulous work, as usual, I cannot help but realize, in addition to your work, the added talent in your video presentation. It must be your extra awareness explaining for us what you are doing in a way that coordinates the details we would otherwise miss, with the beautiful results.
I have a side by side sitting in my bedroom now. My husband bought mine for me over 30 years ago. Mine has curved glass on the door which I love. I treasure mine so much. Your restoration is beautiful.
Vaughan Williams - not The Lark Ascending though you will probably like that too, but the piece you love is Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis. It was composed in 1910 but the main theme is 16th century. You might like the Fantasia on Greensleeves too. Happy listening and thanks for rescuing that poor old bureau. What a life that had had. You pretty much brought it back from the dead! Back in September 1983 I had a weird experience with 'your' tune - on a walking holiday on the Shropshire/ Welsh border we walked into Bishop's Castle, a Tudor town. We walked in very early in the morning, no one around and walking down a hill with half timbered buildings on either side the Fantasia wafted out of an open window. It felt like we'd time-shifted back to the end of the 16th century! Eventually the postman broke the spell but it was a magical moment.
Beautiful cabinet. My dad had one that fit into an odd corner in the living room. This turned out fantastic! Your customer is very lucky! You are an artist! My dad had a placard on his secretary cabinet. It said: I ask a simple question The truth is all I wish Are all fishermen liars Or do only liars fish?
As always Trena, wow! I am so in awe of your fantastic craftsmanship. Your work is so inspiring. Thank you once again for restoring such a lovely piece.
I’m one of those who gravitates to symmetry, but I have to say I really liked your choice and appreciated you taking the time to explain your reasoning. Another banger! Thanks for sharing, Trena.
I've been a cabinetry and millwork contractor for 32 years, and I've seen a lot of garbage on UA-cam. Your skills are stellar...Nice job. The mind of an engineer and an artist.
Love to watch the magnificent work Trena does. The music you love is 'The Lark Ascending'. it was written by Vaughn Williams. It was originally written for violin. I've heard it with violin only and symphony. I like the symphony version. it is one of my favorite songs. Thank you Trena for sharing your work with us. it is an inspiration.
I think it’s very nice you repaired what you had instead of replacing it with something new. The piece keeps its authenticity this way in my opinion. You’re a miracle worker 😀
Trena, when you were first showing us this piece, it really seemed like a lost cause. Well, you certainly are a skilled, creative miracle worker! You breathed life into this piece, I think surpassing how it looked originally! It truly is a beautiful work of art now! Watching your creative process with adding the beveled mirror was mesmerizing. Each step of this restoration turned out absolutely gorgeous! 👏
How satisfying fir you Trena. My maternal grandparents had the same piece of furniture and I have many memories of writing my Christmas thank you letters on it. Wonderful work. Thank you.
What an awesome video. Just loved 🥰 watching every minute of it, and great 😊 woodworking as well. Looking forward to the next one. Keep up the great work 💋
Hi Trena....Absolutely stunning, a family effort this one, I love all the work you did on it, it was an ugly duckling for sure....now a beautiful swan, lol....Take care...cheers !!!!
Thank you. That is a beautiful resurrection. I have a similar piece, my grandfather's from 1910. I immediately spotted the missing mirror. Mine has a missing lower door. I'm told it had the kind of emblem on it that the drop down door has. And my drop down door is badly mended.
Hello Trena, you made an absolutely beautiful job on that cabinet and I appreciate the asymmetrical mirror a lot. My grandad had similar pieces where the flow of the design enchanced by applique lifted a functional cabinet into a piece of art. He was a silversmith, worked in Birmingham UK and made some of the pieces for the Queen's coronation. I inherited a small slice of his craftsmanship and made wedding dresses from scratch according to what my clients required, I am now retired. It's lovely to see the handmade crafting continuing on through various arts and your dad must be so proud of you
My grandparents had one of these secretary desk/bookcase cabinets. One of my brothers inherited the cabinet. It has been amazingly well cared for-everything is still original.
I have pieces of furniture my Civil War great, great grandfather made, think that is enough greats. I have searched everywhere high and low on the pieces hoping to find something he wrote. Just chalk numbers to aid in assembly. Love to see your handwritten signage.
Beautiful piece restored to perfection. I love your commentary and down to earth attitude. I really hope the customer watches this video to really appreciate how much hard work you put into it. I love your channel and enjoy each and every video.🤗🇦🇺
I rebuilt the top portion of one of these myself awhile ago. I must say yours is beautiful mine not quite as good, but the owner loved it. I really enjoy your craftsmanship and attention to detail.
!!!!! So brilliant! A. It’s SOOO cool that you moved and work with your Dad now!! That is brilliant on its own! 😎 B. This restoration is a great showpiece for your exceptional craftsmanship, creativity, aesthetic taste, and heart. Glass, mirror, oak panels, fabricating hardware, re-purposing recovered hardware from your Dad’s stores, patches, re-solidifying… that mirror frame out of thin air! Those onlay appliqués! Furniture makers from days of yore would be so heartened and grateful to have their past creations placed in your loving hands to have their works restored to renewed vibrance. You rock, Trena! Another outstanding restoration! 🤩 This piece needed so much, and you gave it so much. Beautiful result! 😍
I love that you did all this work to bring this piece back. I can't imagine though, with all that labor and material costs that you could recouop even a percentage of that with the current resale price. Still, great work and a wonderful thing to do. Thanks
Gorgeous work! You're such an excellent master of the craft and how you keep your hands so perfect is beyond me. Thanks so much for sharing, you're one of my favorites. 😊
The cabinet is so beautiful, but the mirror and frame is breath taking. like you said it looks like it has always been there, the design to the top of the mirror frame is stunning.
This is absolutely stunning!! I think this is even more amazing than the grandfather clock. WoW, your skill and knowledge of your craft never fails to blow me away. 🎉
thank you for sharing The Lark Ascending. I had never heard it before. I really enjoyed watching the UA-cam of it being performed, quite lovely. See why you like so much. It reminded me of that beautiful French documentary film about flying with birds from 20+ years ago called Winged Migration. cheers
The work you do goes beyond restoration, and how to bring to life something that has been forgotten in time. Congratulations on the beautiful work and keep it up. A hug straight from Brazil
Holy cow! You really know what you're doing! There's so many repair jobs you had to do to the piece. But you did it and didn't take any short cuts. You are amazing! I so wish I could do what you do! You make it look so easy. You did a beautiful job, well done! ❤
Thank you Trena. Not only you bring us your marvellous skills but also you bring joy and a sense of been grounded in a world that is so crazy right now. The craftsmanship that has been losing over the generations , it was good to see your nephew helping. Well done.
You are a great craftsman! What detail you went into explaining what you did. I can't imagine how much you had to charge your customer. Great work great video
❤WOW - Just WOW Trena!!! At the beginning, I was thinking it looked beyond help after your tour of needed repairs & it was so much! I also didn’t really care for pictures of other secretaries at beginning but your end result was AMAZING! The mirror design was wonderful & something I would be proud to have in my home! Love the tip from “Dad” with all his experience- reminds me of sweet memories of my own and their helpful tips! Excellent work as usual!!! Thanks!
Trina as usual you made a wreck into a piece of art as it was intended to be. Thank you for sharing your skills with the world. Your parents must be so proud.

It's Monday morning, here in Germany, and there's nothing more to say than you've already done!
Ditto!!@@horugeru7779
I couldn agree more , @judymcmanus. They are my absolute favorites as well.
You restored what resembled a badly used piece of junk to a beautiful antique. GORGEOUS.
Trena, will you ever tire of being a master crafter? All presented with respect, lightness, and humility. Wow! What a woman!
🥰
This has to be one of the most difficult pieces you have restored. When you describe your plan to effect the needed repairs, the confidence in your voice is amazingly clear. You have a unique ability to turn something abused into a thing of beauty. Another reason why I for one am addicted to seeing your channel and the work you do
Oh wow. So kind of you to say. Thankyou🥰
All those itty bitty repairs add up to a beautiful chest piece! I hope the customer pays you well!
Not only are these pieces interesting, but they are also common items overlooked in most Canadian towns and cities because of the amount of detail required to bring them back to beauty.
Your degree of mastery really shines through these fiddly but delightful pieces.
I would be proud to own it.
Yea they are a lot of work. Thankyou so much!🥰
There is something so satisfying watching an expert crafts-woman. THANK YOU. BEAUTIFUL!!!
You are so welcome!

That was miraculous young lady. From basically nothing to a piece that anyone would be proud to have. I bet your dad is more than proud of you. Thank you for sharing.👍♥️
Thankyou so much!
Could I make a new…? Yes. Do I want to make a new…? No. My favorite part of your commentary!
Lol thanks
Maestro, I believe that piece is 'The Lark Ascending'. What a time we live in to be able to watch an artist like you work.
I think that the appeal I have for your videos is soaking in the process and your approach to achieving the work of art that is the final result.I do not remember a single item that you have restored that I would not have been proud to have in my home.Love your personality and consider you and your family my Canadian buds.

The piece of music is "The Lark Ascending" by Vaughan Williams. Thank you for another fantastic video Trena.
Indeed it is! Thankyou!
I'm so proud of you and and the care you give to these pieces of furniture from the past. I understand all that so thank you.
🥰
Honestly, I did not believe you could fix so many problems. I was very wrong. Superb job. You are a magician!

Whew! I’m exhausted just watching this! What an amazing job! It’s a showpiece now.

The details on this one are reminiscent of the clock repair where you added back the missing paint on the face. Phenomenal work!
Thankyou🥰
I agree 100%.
I've been a cabinetry and millwork contractor for 32 years, and I've seen a lot of garbage on UA-cam. Your skills are stellar...Nice job. The mind of an engineer and an artist.

Yes. Restoration for loving customers is most often more than resale
What a wonderful piece. I like how you made your own clever curves to the mirror frame. The owner must be over the moon.
Great result after a lot of work. Very relaxing listening to the commentary and watching you work!
Thank you very much!
Girl, you do not mess around...wow, fantastic!!
Lol
Boy oh boy. What can I say. Ditto with J underneath. I learn so many things watching your videos. One of the best things to watch. Keep them coming.

Loved the design of the mirror addition!!. God has given you not only talent but perseverance to accomplish your vision for each piece.
