My Presa was a rescue from SPCA and agree with you 100%! I didn't know what a Presa was when I adopted her. She was 5 yrs old already and quite set in her ways. I've had large dogs my whole life but she is by far the strongest and was the hardest to train. Not because of her intelligence as she's incredibly smart. She is confident and didn't care at all what I wanted in the first 6 months. She did her own thing and was super lazy too. I will say I absolutely love
my girl and she's a wonderful family dog. Got lucky with Daisy as she loves kids and people. Now if someone is acting weird or intoxicated watch out. She's very protective. She is 11 now and has lots of gray....😢. Still the most lovable dog I've ever had with her family and so gentle. My girl ❤

I have two presa canario that are almost 3 years old and are liter mate brother and sister. Socialization is the KEY!!! The male has been with me all over the United States as I drive a semi and highly socialized. The male thinks you're weird if you don't want to meet and pet him. The female has been with my wife at the house with very little socialization. The female is suspicious of everything and everyone. They are completely two different dogs. Socialization means taking them with you out in public on a regular basis and basic training. If that's not your cup of tea, then don't get one. Get something that lays around, and you don't have to put much work into. This is a dog lover's dog, not something you just pet, feed, ignore, and snap a few dog pictures to post on social media.

It's not the key for a 100 percent of these breed or other breeds like he said yes train and socails as early as you can but always keep it mind these things will not always work my presa has all of this and above my females are fine to around people outside of the family but my male isn't we have got him to the point where by his less reactive and won't drag me across the road but God forbid a person who allows their dog off lead without 100 percent recall comes into his personal space that dog is unfortunately going to be hurt so this bs about its the owner and training and socialising isn't true some dogs are breed to only except their own families and nothing more and this is okay we can't put human wants and needs onto a dog forcing them to socialise when they don't want to all we can do is ensure that we have control over them and have that off switch

Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

Thank you thank you for stressing how much these dogs aren’t for anyone and how important researching these dogs are. We took 4 years before getting one and chose a very good kennel. We did check out her family history as well EVERYDAY IS A TRAINING DAY!!! We socialized her at 7 weeks while she was still with the breeders! She is such a good girl but she of course can be very intense if WE ALLOWED IT. YOU ARE HANDS DOWN AMAZING DUDE! We respect you so much.

I own a Presa and he’s amazing .same colour as a lion he’s only just turned 2 and around 135lb . I’ve had amazing breeds like pits , American bulldog and GSD all beautiful and never attacked and always around children . My Presa lives with a Jack Russell , chihuahua and a cat and he’s the most beautiful dog you could wish for . I’ve made him like a Labrador and he sleeps with my daughters and the chihuahua . In the home he’s amazing and can be alert but on walks he can be very weary of people and especially other dogs if walking with the smaller dogs. It’s all about the home and I can honestly say the Presa Canario is a great addition to any family they just need a good family to listen to . Never let one person be a pack leader . It takes a family to raise a dog and I always start be letting children pass and take food bowls from when they’re puppies hence it builds great bonds and trust . Don’t ever get a Presa that’s fully grown if you have children , always puppies 👊🏻

What a great video!! I got my 1st Pressa from SoCal Pressa. She is 3 years old and 130 lbs. I had Bullmastiffs for the last 25 years. I love this breed!! But like you said, crazy protectors. Someone broke into my side gate last week. My girl got out at 6am. She sat on my front sidewalk for 4 hours and didn't mess with anyone walking by, with or without a dog.

I have owned 3 Rottweilers, 2 German Shepherds, 1 Douge De Bordeaux, and 1 Belgium Malinois, and 1 Presa Canario. Of all the dogs I have worked with in obedience, IPO, and home protection they were all good, but the Presa Canario had the hardest temperament and would never back down! The Malinois was the absolute fastest learner and willingness to be obedient. Also my Malinois did not fear anything period! He would bite and hold on both arm and leg sleeves like his life depends on it and it was a joy to watch him work. Never tired and always up for something new! Dogs are a great asset in the right hands with correct training!

Seen my first one in person and he was a great looking dog! was out running and getting off the local trail a guy had him with his young son as they were getting on to the trail, the presa looked at the guy and his son an looked at me then back at them, he never showed any aggression but he was definitely setting what he thought was an appropriate distance for me to keep. I asked the guy how he was with kids and other dogs and he said he was the best dog he ever had.

Excellent video and excellent puppies. After working with perro di presas all my life (35+years but not a professional breeder or trainer) I can say that all of your advise is spot on! Especially the piece about having a loaded gun at the end of the leash. I love presas and I currently have a male (3yo) and a female (7yo) which I adopted after being abandoned by their respective owners. Definitely not an easy feat! Finally someone with influence to stress the fact that these dogs are not for every kid out there wanting to impress their friends!

I had a patient who had 3. They were very good dogs and would be fine with me walking into their home just asking for pets, as soon as they realized who was at the front door, even without their owner at home (I went in a few times to feed and water them and let them out when the owner was in hospital).

Got a Presa/doberman mix trained her to be a loyal companion to my little sister. She's so good with her follows her around everywhere. Protective but not aggressive unless provoked. She's super obedient as well easy for my little sister to control and she knows her place in the family. Im considering either 2 full presa canario for my farm or boerboels.

@@CuteFunnyAnimalsTV-yk7hbI have to disagree, just my experience, boerbels are so powerful and so strong that you need to not only have them seriously well trained but you gotta be real physically strong just to withstand the storm, the same goes for presa, very powerful but not to the extent of boerbels, they're easy to train and along as you super socialise them they can be great with dogs and cats and children, my 4 month old pup is a super genius, she's taken to training so well but regardless I know she has the capability to cause tragedy, she's trained twice a day, everyday, and that's a lifetime commitment training arrangement

Presa are no joke. While many advocate not to take pupps out on walks or public places while thier immune are vulnerable. I had to take my pup out on parks for short walks. Hardware stores and family homes to socialize as much as possible while he is young and curious. It paid off at the end. He is poeple friendly when going out. Dog friendly is different as their breed are not known for that as stated in the video. But he is good with livestock and superb with momma cat with kitten. I call him uncle Ramses as he like to be their protector. We good family dog with proper and alot of compliments when going out. One thing I do advise is from experience is pet insurance. These dogs aint cheap.

I noticed if a dog does not get scared they are not as aggressive in a tense situation. I stopped taking him to public dog parks because there are far too many other dogs that could force my dog into a fight. My boy is STRONG, i used walking harnesses to help keep control of him.

However, I have always thought the Presa is such a Beautiful Dog. I truly think it's a problem with the owner and not the Dog. Sure they are huge and strong. But this Gentleman is completely right. Good Breeder. Proper Early Training. And socializing your Dog will make all the difference. Now I'm just conflicted on The American Bully XL or the Presa. Either way. Dogs rule !!!!!

Great video, I own a Presa myself and she is everything mentioned in the video. The only thing I would disagree with is the energy comparison in regards to the Cane Corso. Presa's are noticeably more energetic, their builds are more muscular and defined, they run faster and jump higher. They are quite literally a machine. Mine was the runt and is a female, it only weighs around 80 pounds so it is most likely more athletic than the average Presa but from all the research I've seen and from personal experience, the Presa's athleticism and strength is more comparable to a pit bull breed than a Cane Corso.

Agreed. I don't know anyone that goes with a Corso over a Presa for any working role. US Presa breeders are way more working oriented on average. Corsos are far more popular which leads to far less consistent breeding lines.

My Presas can, and have cleared a 6'6" fence with no run up, just a straight up leap from a crouch position. Scared the living sh** out of the punks teasing them from the alley....and I mean LITERALLY! All they did was bark, and walk towards them though....they didn't chase them when the idiots ran screaming, just came back and sat by the gate for me to let them in.
Smart enough to know they'd made their point.
No one comes near my fence now...go figure!

Love, Love, Love both of these breeds. I have a presa mix and he is such a gentle giant, but I would NOT recommend these breeds for a first time dog owner or someone that can not or will not set boundaries and enforce them. My dog is high prey driven. He loves to chase cats. I do not think he would hurt them if he did catch up with them, but on walks unless you are on high alert ALL THE TIME they could get away from you. I love my dog enough to stay high alert all the time so he shows good etiquette. I have to be highly focused on all our walks because of the loose cats. Not a dog for first time dog owner. I do have to be firm with my dog with the pulling on the leash and wanting to meet dogs on walks and wanting to chase cats. They are also high energy and need exercise EVERY DAY. If not, they will drive you crazy and if you are not at home could create their own fun at your homes detriment.

My presa is 5 years old. I’ve owned huskies, kangals, cane Corsos, boxers, German Shepards, and collies and hands down the presa is by far my favorite, with the corso close behind. I have never seen a breed so determined to want nothing more than to be with and please his master. Of all the breeds I’ve owned I feel more confident with my current presa being around people without worrying about him biting someone. Even though my experience with presas have been over the top great I still recommend this breed for only experienced handlers due to their enormous strength and eagerness to fight if given the opportunity.

The Presa Canario is my dream dog, but I’ve only ever owned Chihuahuas. I want to eventually be able to have a Presa. What are the steps I should take to prepare and successfully have a Presa Canario? Love the videos btw!

I was on the fence about getting one … When you said 99% shouldn’t I pulled the trigger. Have one on a flight to Rhode Island as we speak. That being said. I have had pit bulls ,dozens of boxers , Great Danes etc.

I have considered getting a Presa for years. I am currently looking for a breeder as these dogs are rare, especially in Kentucky. I have had American Pitbulls, Great Danes and a working German Shepherd. I don’t have any of them anymore and have time for a dog

Exactly at all! I had a Presa Canario with dog's experiences (German Shepherd & Boxer). The spanish breeders said, it's a bad idea to take a presa canario as a single woman. I didn't believed it.
Constantly training, but they're so intelligent and stubborn, to follow their own way in some situations.
    For example:
My male dogo likes all people, BUT he can smell, when a man likes me more than normal and starts to make these persons afraid .
A conversation isn't possible (barking) and he gives them a space about 2,5 m ( away from me)....but not one cm more!
If he don't agree to let someone into the house, I know about the background.
It's impossible to stop these muscle power packets per leash, when they freak out!
In my case, it was impossible, to change his behavior.
All other commands are working perfect and he's the best dog ever. He loves kids, too.
He protected me at night from a man ( hiding behind bushes). I could save his life ( sadly) and called : "Run or he kills you! "....and run to turn the leash around the tree to hold my dog.
They're not like other dogs and yes, there should be a man with a natural dominance and experience.
Well, they're the perfect protection. They know about the danger, before you know what's going on and you can trust them in these moments.... I agree - they're a weapon.
The spanish breeders knew about their strong personality.
I agree at all to these competent video.
The most presa canarios coming to shelters with 1 - 1,5 years! It's very sad.

I don't know anyone that does human or animal apprehension that would consistently take a Corso over a Presa. Working kennels Irema Curto and De La Arena produce better working Presas than any Corso kennel.

What a handsome dog the male puppy is!!! Thanks for sharing!
As to the breed, if you find an individual with a low tendency to drool ("dry mouth"), then the breed has only two downsides:
    1) No undercoat (you will have problems if you have to relocate to an area with a cold climate)
    2) There seems to be an increasing number of jurisdictions that ban this breed.
Moreover, as to controlling the dog (making him submit), the biggest problem in this regard (even with GSDs) is that they can bite quicker than one can react. I have never seen advice anywhere on how to solve this problem.

@American Standard Dog Training I'm not sure where to ask this, but have you worked with an Alano Español?
They share some similar characteristics to Cane Corso and Presa Canarios. They may be more agile, better with children and dogs (assuming a dog doesn't challenge them) and have a better release when commanded to release a person or animal. They also have incredible bite strength.
I hope you and your family are doing well and you are having less trouble with venomous less and comments from crazies. God bless!! ❤

What breed would you recommend more so for intimidation factor than actually "murdering the stranger"? The Corso and Presa are too much for my family but I do a lot of solo trail running and want to purchase a dog that will make people think twice before trying to kill me but that will also mesh well with a family with a 6yo child.

Athletic, family-friendly, guard dogs! Belgian Tervuren and Malinois! Doberman, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Appenzeller, Australian Shepherd, Boxer, Portuguese Water Dog, Giant Schnauzer, German Shepherd , Bullmastiff, Terriers
Some of these have single coats, so may not like strong rain , nor cold weather!
Lots of other factors to consider also!

    • @lenitaa7938

I read about a woman like u running marathons, training in isolated places! She had 2 Rhodesian Ridgebacks! She felt very safe with them! They can run forever! Very intelligent dogs that constantly use their brain and assess the environment! Athletic! Loyal! They hunt lions in Africa! Fearless, independent thinkers! Protective of family! Don’t bark much, but when they do, there is a good reason! I’ve never seen them being aggressive!
Impressive dogs! I’ve known several of them! Better than terriers, in general! Good health!

Okay! So I’m not sure how to preface this question without pissing off a whole bunch of people here. But I’m a Huge fan of the Great Dane breed but they’ve completely lost their hunting and protecting abilities, so I wanted to introduce some Presa Canario into their bloodline to sturdy them up again. I guess my question is: would that be a good idea?

    Great Video
i doubt that Presas are used for Boar hunting-
at least not in the Canary islands- simply because there are no boars here🙂
i own one and he lives on my farm and is socialized with the pigs i raise.
kinda helps me heard them- not really a bordercolly though🙂
he has balldrive and that made it easy to train him- mi first one did not have balldrive and totally different energy- way lazier
mine is a humper but very peacful
    he catches and kills rats
    greatings from Las Palmas

I got a presa girl when she was 6 months while I was out of country(via family) and met her when she was 8 months. She is a sweetheart and a big baby but she's reactive. And we do live in a rental townhouse complex. She's currently 14 months old. What kind of training do you recommend?
