I have followed this guy since the day I got my pitbull 7 months ago, I have implemented everything he teaches my pup is so well behaved and a good dog By far the best dog trainer out there Keep up the great work
I have an 'accidental' pit bull grand-dog. Long story short, we agreed to take her for a weekend, that was 5 years ago, and she's still here! My 3 men (husband, son, and little old-man dog we had at the time) decided she was a keeper. I've had dogs all my life, setters and collies, NICE dogs, and this pit girl is hands-down the BEST of them all. We love her SO much.
I do Doordash part time. I had massive bully pit rush up to me today. The thing just wanted my love and his owner was watching. I loved on him for a minute. He was the absolute sweetest thing. He even jumped in my driver seat when I opened it to leave. He just wanted to go on an adventure, but I redirected him to his dad. I have two huskies, so I get physical dogs. The moment you freeze on them, they can get testy. This one meant no harm. He licked my hand like crazy. I will remember him for awhile. I love dogs in general.
I went jogging once and a large pitty broke loose from its handler. Fortunately it was like every other pity I’d met and just jazzed about the chance to play. Knocked me down because she was so big but I barely got a skinned knee. It was a couple years before I worked for a dog trainer and even then I could tell her body language was all play, no fuss.

High preydrive, gameness, bred for fighting....low self preservation instinct to take on bulls, high kill drive to kill vermin...not safe or to be trusted. Compare that to labradors. I am usually called a dog magnet by my friends because they just love me for some reason but the most happy a dog has ever gotten around me was a pitbull he just just licked me all over and even gave me gentle teeth grazes all over my arm and almost knocked me down. I have never seen a dog being so much happy upon meeting someone the first time (or any time tbh). And interesting part is that the owners were assholes and there was no training and not so good treatment. Yet that good boi had no aggression at all. I so wanted to free him from those assholes.
I have had and trained dogs all my life. My Wife and I have fostered and sheltered many dog breeds for many years. We got our Red Nose Pitty at 8 weeks old from a local rescue that advocates for this breed. THE BEST DOG I have ever had. Trained our girl at 6 months to catch a frisbee. She does this fun activity every night in spectacular fashion! She loves to "show off" and is so "present". Sweet and loving. Amazing around our grandchildren. Yes high energy and they are BORN ATHLETES. You have to take this into consideration before you decide to own a Pit Bull. YOU have to exercise them everyday. I am a very active person, so I personally love this trait. We are headed out right now for our 2 mile hike then, Frisbee time! Best dogs ever.
they also kill kids...why not be safe and get a labrador...also athletic and loving. but without high preydrive and risk...I do not understand why people defend a human designed breed...it is not a natural animal. It is human engineered for killing and fighting. Get over it.
My pibble is amazingly sweet. He's a big lap dog. He has not met a stranger. However, even if he's friendly with people outside of his family, if my kids are around, he stays between the "stranger " and his kids. I love my bully breeds. Their personalities are unique. Lovable and goofy. Friendly but stealthly wary. My giant goofy house hippo has been an amazing addition to our family. We couldn't imagine life without him.
I’ve owned 2 pitbulls in my life… They were A lot of work but both times it paid off and I never had an issue with Tyson or Nala… I didnt know what I was doing when I got Tyson but I gave him all my attention and trained him as best as possible and he was one of the best dogs I even had… When I got Nala I knew what I was doing after having Tyson and Nala was even better both Nala and Tyson knew to bite if I was in danger but never did because when I said something they always listened… In my opinion if you cannot give a pitbull the exercise they need and the attention, Training they need DO NOT GET ONE! Do the dog a favour and do not get one… I didn’t have experience but I really did my research and gave both Tyson and Nala my full attention at all times even when they were trained, If you cannot do that do the dog a favour and don’t get one….
My neighbors old pitbull has never done literally anything besides walk around aimlessly and lay on the couch, I’ve never heard her bark or growl, and she’s never even snapped at anyone.
I've heard a video by an old time dogman who talked about a Pitbull getting stolen. Then according to a book I read years ago,when Vick was involved in dog fighting he stole peoples pet pit bulls to try and make a fighting dog out of. I guess they must not have been to aggressive if they were that easy to steal.
@@tritchie6272 I have that book, or at least the book you might be referring to, Lost Dogs? Its hard to believe its an older book now, time goes too fast. Richard Stratton books are the best APBT books, he talks about owners of game dogs keeping guard dogs to guard their properties filled with "dangerous pit bull dogs". I have seen them make good guard dogs and I have seen them make terrible guard dogs, and that's just fine, they were never intended to be guard dogs.

This is a GREAT video on the breed. Very important that people begin to understand that the APBT is not the same as an American Bully, or the so called "Bully Breeds". Completely different dogs, and this guy is spot on as always.
@@s.b.5259 Yeah... Exactly. You just added 3 breeds to it my guy. And it is not "a little bit of mastiff" it's either in the breed or it isn't, and there is a lot of mastiff in some Am bully lines... But the main point here is that you are adding mastiff and bulldog, which are 2 people aggressive breeds, with natural guarding instincts, and A LOT of size... That right there makes a total different dog. APBTs are not people aggressive, and are no bigger than 55lbs... They're Terriers, and an American bully is so far from that. You need to learn about dog bloodlines and breeding, and you'll learn how much an outcross affects a breed, not to mention a cross with a completely different dog breed... They're not even close to the same dog.
9 years ago my wife and I decided to adopt a dog from the humane shelter here. It constantly has about 90% pit bulls and after doing a TON of research we decided to go with a pit bull. quite possibly a miss step not considering that a lot of dogs at the shelter had trauma and troubled pasts. Having said that we probably visited that shelter 3-4 times about 10 dogs before we settled on a 4 year old 55 lb blue pit/mastiff mix named Silva. we had previously decided 55 lbs was about max weight we wanted to go. We also didn't connect the dots that she was severely underweight from malnutrition and possible abuse because, she gained 20 lbs and maxed out eventually at 75 lbs lmao. Not sure if we got really lucky or we just didn't a halfway decent job with her or a mix of both but she ended up being quite literally the best dog I have ever owned. She was an angel with our new born baby and everyone she ever met. a couple months ago we had to say goodbye to her and it has been a pretty rough time for us and our kids, especially myself because the decision to get a dog was to help with my PTSD from the wars I served in and the anxiety and other issues stemming from the same. That dog quite literally saved my life, and I will never talk down about that breed ever in my life... she was a godsend. We are now working with a Cane Corso breeder here in Ohio and are going to be getting a puppy probably in the next six months or so. We WILL be getting your training program and following them as if our and others lives depends on it... because they do. sorry for the rant just had to vent a little bit lol.
I adopted a rescue, what I think, American bully. He was out in a blizzard wandering the town. Followed me home. I found owners and they GAVE him to me. He was underfed and starved for a pack. He assimilated with our collie mix, our young children, and then a brand new baby. He never leaves my side u less it’s to sleep. He has some dog aggression but only on a leash or behind fence. And only when I do not introduce the new dog to the pack. I am the alpha. If I bring a dog in he sees it as that dog is under his protection. Honestly one of if not the best dog I have ever owned. They have amazing ability and need to be socialized and trained in a pack structure. And they love it. Make them sit and wait for food. They love it. They love you for it. An experienced owner is key.
Couldn't agree more.. I got my american bully about 6 months ago as a puppy from a breeder.. he loves people and other animals , we even have 2 cats one of which is 23 years old and he's amazing around them. I've been training him to be alone without crating or anything and he's doing very well.. he went from ripping apart anything he could find like a napkin or paper, to complete relaxation and can be left alone for about 2.5-3 hours now at 6 months . Hardest part has been his recall because he gets playing and now he's interested in something else but when listening or tired has no issues in recall at that point so still alot of work to do but he's been amazing
@@PoliticalConservative yeh mine I think was fought. It’s bizarre how the prey drive only exists in certain situations. He was trained to do that. I might be an American bully owner for life now. Having grown up with labs and goldens, I can’t express how impressed I am with the bully breed.

Pitbulls should not be owned by 90% of the people that own them right now. Anytime I see a pitbull at the park where I run they are always pulling on the leash with no recall and the owner is leaning back to keep the dog some what controlled.
They sure are not for everyone but in the right hands great dogs. I got one that I saved out of his former tragic situation. Had 7 pre owners at 11 months and was treated badly and worse. I trained him from day one from 11 1/2 months old. He couldn't even walk on a leash, had no good habits and was very fearful. Over time we build a wonderful bond, he behaves very well, likes cats and is quite confident today, very loyal and the best dog I ever had! I changed work for him and take him with me almost everywhere,even to the hairdresser and martial arts training. After a little while he started to just chill until finished. Never damaged any furniture or other in the last years. Very thankful and snuggly with people he knows, great guard dog when it comes to strangers coming near the House. wonderful character and intelligent. They know when you try to fool them. One needs to be consistent, reliable and have clarity when wanting a dog like this. If you don't lead they will take over.
did you get him professionally trained? And what were daily training or behavior adjustments did you try? I have a family member who got a pit at 4mo and sounds similar to yours but they don’t do anything training wise or even try to get him outside, and I’ve been looking for some tips
Nitro my former pitbull may he rest in peace... was the best dog I ever had not at all violent never bit anyone or anything and I rescued him from the shelter at 3 months old weighting only ten pounds. Problem is always the owners never the dogs. All dogs go to heaven😊
@MishMash22 no he had the change my wife's uncle is an asshole that drinks alot and got violent with Nitro and Nitro just stared him down no biting no violence from him. As stated it's always the owners fault for not being a good enough leader
My aunt, may she rest in peace, was all of 5 feet tall and had pits as long as I can remember; they were amazing dogs because they were blessed with an amazing owner🥰
I had the opportunity to train APB littermates (a male and a female), for a salon client of mine. My mother was a dog trainer, and I had been working with dogs since childhood. (Mom used the Koehler method, and crate training for house breaking, as do I) The dogs lived with me for 8 months and it was the experience of a lifetime. Such smart, loving, and loyal dogs. Very rewarding to work with, and such goofy personalities. The male loved opera, and was (when we began), terrified of jumping in and out of the truck, while the female was fearless and had to be kept in line because her dominance over her brother due to the littermate factor... but she was so affectionate with my other dogs and us. My client was a terrific APB mom, too as she learned all the commands I had taught and even spent a few sessions with me working with them to be sure she had all her ducks in a row before allowing them to return home with her. She gets compliments to this day on how well behaved the two are. 🥰🥰🙏
I was NEVER a fan of this breed. But a couple of summers ago, we rescued an AmStaff that was left for dead in the streets of AZ. She was used as a bait dog. This girl won my heart, and now I love this breed. She's has a lot of trauma we're working through, but she's loyal beyond belief. We're working with a trainer and it's definitely helping us. She's learning to trust people again and I couldn't be more proud of her ❤ We named her Summer.
Should be more people in the world like you I was brought up thinking pits r bad dogs and kills kids in Ireland from my granda moved to usa first thing I do go get a pitbull and no regrets jus lot work and time go in to it but like I said no regrets. And best dog around kids jus make sure being adult supervised when around kids like any dogs but for some reason when things go wrong it's only on the news about the pits
Bait dog? Did the dog tell you that? Lol the notion of bait dog was a fabrication of these "animal rights" organizations. The only ones who do that are dumb people who learned from these animal rights organizations to do that as a means to train for fighting. The real dog fighters would NEVER use unwilling or unable dogs to use to train their dogs to fight. That is just ignorant.
We ended up coming home with a pittie from Arizona Humane Society 4 years ago. Having Huskies, Rottweiler and Akita among other rescues over the years. Our Pitt Belle is by far the most affectionate, sweetest, well behaved dog my husband and I have ever had the pure enjoyment of her being in our life. We recently rescued a 1 yo male someone found on the street of downtown Phoenix. He is a sweetheart, gets along well Belle yet he is still in training…hehe. A 24/7 joy. These 2 dogs are the best thing ever to happen for us❤️
We have a female black and white pit bull. She's 65 lbs. I am very fortunate that I live on 4 1/2 acres of land most of it woods. I opened the back door and off she goes getting all of her energy out. She is now nine years old and I am 70. She thinks that she needs to go everywhere I go to protect me. We take her in the pick up with us all the time. A lot of times she'll go next door to the kids that are 11,10 and 7 years old. This dog loves children. They also have a little dog that weighs about 8 lbs. She plays with this dog they chase each other all over their backyard. it is so funny to see them play tag. And then she comes back home. I can truly say this is one of the best dogs we've ever had. When she goes to dog heaven we will most probably buy another one.
I’ve had 4, every one was absolutely precious and loving. My boy who lived to be 14 was so sweet and submissive that you felt sorry for him almost. My oldest one lived to be over 16 years and we were so close. None ever showed aggression and it’s a shame ignorance has caused people to label pitties as dangerous dogs when this simply isn’t the truth.
Having Pitbulls & Bully’s, my Bully’s were better protectors than my Pitbull. However, if I was being attacked by another animal (I pray that never happens) but I would trust my Pitbull over my Bully’s. Great dogs, easy to train & very driven! Great video about the breed!

My wife and I have a 14 yo Pitbull Terroir and he's the perfect house dog. We also now have two 8 week old brother and sister American Bullies. The pups are already mimicking our other dog by going outside to potty (not every time lol) they understand the word no, show remorse if blood is drawn while playing and extra affectionate. Their father has a 24 inch neck so we're excited to see how they grow.
Great stuff. Pitbulls need owners who know what time it is for sure. Their tenacity can be off the charts. My current pit has graduated to "advanced" training classes--we're offleash and on long lines with other dogs, pretty fun. I've noticed everything mentioned in the video, but also, the shepherd dogs seem to stay on task a little better than my pit or any pit I've had. There's a little bit of terrier "look a squirrel!" going on with pits. They're great dogs if you have the time and commitment.
Thank you for being one of the good ones. My first was CGC certified and had a high prey drive and was stubborn as he'll. She also was very dog selective esp as she aged and passed from cancer at 11. Not one injury to a person or dog and never let to run amuck in the neighborhood. My current pit wil be 3 in July and is even more obedient and Def more submissive than my first. Takes a lot of dedication and understanding their body language n motivation but as I'm sure you'd agree it's worth it

The main issue we have now is the fact that there are a lot of backyard breeders who aren't properly aware of what traits they are looking for combined with enthusiastic but inexperienced owners, which is creating such a bad rep for any bull named dog. I'm not a massive advocate for them being banned or unbanned, but i just know that my golden retriever has been attacked twice by 2 separate bull style dogs, both being potentially american bull dogs, but i can't be exactly sure. Both times, awful owners who had this meat ball of energy running all over the streets off lead, my dog can't have been the only thing they attacked.
My pitbull (since passed away and was my whole life) was attacked three times by labradors. She was the sweetest dog on the face of the planet. I think it's just the people.
its the people youre not wrong but the irresponsible way they are being bred is not helping the breeds case at all. Pitbulls are responsible for most of dog attacks
I took the "risk" of adopting a 2-year-old American Staffy from a no-kill shelter as my first dog (it was love at first sight). We spent 12 wonderful loving years together until she passed from bone cancer in May. She needed ALOT of exercise. Min. of 40-minute walks 3 times a day and off-leash running at the dog park until she tired out. My family members tried to convince me to return her, I'm so glad I stood my ground and refused. She did have her quirks (dog selective, warry of some men, and didn't like strangers coming into the house or near the car). I'm sure those quirks were from her previous home but also because as a new dog owner, I didn't know how to properly socialize her and push past it. I 100% believe a good dog owner makes for a good dog.

Man, I was about to write you off. But once you passed the introduction. You are absolutely correct. I'm wondering if you can do a video about tone of voice. I think this would be beneficial to all dog owners. It seems to me that all dogs react to the owner's tone of voice. High or low.
I had 13 pit bulls and trained everyone of them and never had any problems with them. Walked them off leash. Where other dogs was and had no problems. It’s those owners that don’t understand the bred and what they can do if not trained right.
Best sweetest dog I’ve ever had is my bully mix. She’s never started an issue in fact runs from fights. She’s super easy to train since she wants to please above all. Biggest issue with her is just keeping up with her energy. Regardless of how tired you are you have to get up and exercise this type of dog
Ive owned quite a few Staffordshire bull terrier dogs and all have been well trained and big softies. IMO their is NO such thing as a BAD DOG...ONLY BAD OWNERS....🙏
I have a male APBT that I scooped up from the middle of the road in a bad area. He has been the best dog I have ever had. Phenomenal dog. He is super high energy and an insane intenseness that is shocking. I found him at 5 weeks old and he was for sure going to be used as a fighter had I not found him. You have to be willing to give them plenty of attention and love.
We rescued our poptato 12 years ago. He was a bate dog and outrageously abused. He was extremely dog aggressive. With years of constant work and proper training he became a loved member of our whole community. My best buddy is now resting in the flowers. I'm lucky to have had special people in my life to teach me the way.
I’ve realized people & the media pretty much call any dog with a certain look a pit bull - especially if an incident occurred. Couple weeks ago early in the morning I spotted a beautiful white dog when I was bringing my son to the bus stop.. I’d never seen him before, he was kinda hiding behind a garbage can upstairs infront of an apartment where I knew he didn’t belong. I drove up and I swear- & this has never happened before- I felt an INSTANT connection to this guy 🤦🏻♀️ the way he looked at me… pleading eyes, soft eyes- but I knew very few others would see it.. they’d only see a loose pit bull. I put down some treats I had in my car & called him down to it and then had to leave to bring my other kids to school- but as soon as I was done I wanted to go back to check on him. I asked around & no one had seen him before- they all said he showed up over night. & of course they all warned me “I wouldn’t get too close… I wouldn’t mess with that dog if I were you “.. but as soon as I rolled my window down & spoke to him he remembered me from earlier- that tail started happily wagging & he bounced on down & came over to my car. I tossed him a giant cookie I had and he was so excited he spun around, did a play bow, came to my window for pets,& then grabbed the cookie. He followed me home which was soooo heartbreaking! I knew I couldn’t take him inside, my husband would not be happy with me, & the side gate to the fence no longer exists so I couldn’t put him in the yard- not to mention my scary 8lbs little baby & my cat.. the neighbors on each side of me also had tiny dogs, one of which is outside 90% of the time- plus a lot of outside cats. So I didn’t feel good about leaving him in the yard. I made a ton of phone calls with no luck, ended up having to drive back where I found him- letting him follow- just to drive away. Which there’s no words to how heartbroken I felt! But I spent the next 24 hours on my phone- making calls, going on social media, sending emails, etc. and visiting him. Through this I found out a neighbor around the corner actually helps rescue & she fosters- the only issue was she was leaving out the country in 2 days. She went & got him that night, so he had a warm place to sleep- and the next day I went over there so we could make a plan. Btw- I walked in & he was laying in an open kennel, as soon as I spoke he ran to me.. I think he thought he was a lap dog for a moment because he sure tried to lay on my lap 😆 the absolute SWEETEST dog I think I’ve ever met, & extremely well behaved- and very smart. Picked up what was wanted from him very quickly, & i believe he’s fairly young.. less than a year old. Anyway we convinced a best friend of mine to take him for the 2 weeks my neighbor will be gone- she has an American pit terrier and a pug mix. Once neighbor returns she’ll foster him until we find him a home. In the meantime- I get to visit him whenever I want! But my point in bringing this up- This was the sweetest dog, lovable, friendly, well behaved.. he instantly got along with the other dogs (not only the 2 at my friends, but the German shepherd & boxer mix my neighbor has. He was well mannered & did great around the kids, and beautifully meeting new people! Anyone would be lucky to have him! .. but I wonder, how long would he have been on the streets if I hadn’t seen him. How many people would have past him up- how many wouldn’t have even given a second look, simply because they see a “pit bull” . And what worries me & breaks my heart the most- how many people would have mistreated him out of fear & ignorance… how often does that occur! I remember one year for Thanksgiving at my parents- all of us were outside, and so were the family next door. & suddenly this bouncy wobbly guy come running- The family next door, adults & kids both, started screaming- trying to kick at him- yelling at him- one person grabbed a broom 🤦🏻♀️ I called him over & as I dealt with him I looked over to the next yard and said “HES A PUPPY! He might look “big”, but this is a puppy- a puppy who was excited to see people, & wanted to join in” they called him a pit and NO PART OF HIM was a any kind of pit🤦🏻♀️ and he couldn’t have been no more than 6months old. I wish more people educated themselves…. Even, & especially, the ones who have a fear of dogs. You don’t have to be a dog lover- you don’t even have to interact with them.. but you should at least be informed on the basics- and if you are afraid, you should learn how to read the basic body language-& learn what to do & not to do if you come across a dog. And PLEASE, stop labeling every dam dog a “pit”, & stop blaming every bad behavior or tragic incident on them ❤
I wouldn't do a wooden/plastic fence, dogs don't like pawing a medal fence. I wouldn't own a high drive Pitbull, but most bull breeds won't back down from a fight started by another dog, even if they're not dog aggressive.
I just learned of this guy a few months ago and I do watch his shorts mostly here and there, I love that he likes the Cane Corso, my uncle was a dog lover, and he passed away years ago, with what UA-cam is now, it would have helped him a lot. He had a Rottweiler mix Pitbull, very aggressive to everyone else apart from him.
I love my pit. when we go to town I use a e collar as well as a slipleash while Thor is male dog aggressive he does no t got after them. I put him in the sit/stay position he sits grumbles but does not attempt to attack. He is not happy. Pitties are amazing when trained and raised properly. Thor does not use a crate. He is inside and p paad trained for when I am at work. He sleeps in bed with me at night. and we go out a lot to play.
Thanks for the video mate, I thought it was fair and can't say that often with pit bull videos. I had game bred APBT when I was young and I love them more than any other breed, but breed specific laws have made the unpractical for me to own. Love seeing them being able to reach their full potential by those that own and work them and understand how they should be. Would love to see a return of smaller APBT.
My first dog is a pitbull (I bought him to help with my chronic pain.) Had him for 3 years and counting. The two things that have kept him from becoming a disaster are that I am housebound and I take an absurd amount of personal pride in the things I do. I simply will not allow this dog to be a bad dog. Spoiled? Oh sure. He's spoiled rotten. But bad? Not a chance. Through mutual respect and an iron hand to match his iron will, he and I have worked together to turn him into the best dog in walking distance (can't drive so I can't gauge that far out.)
Nice to see a vid from someone that doesn't have some bias and gives the pros and cons. Though you say they aren't human aggressive, there seem be a LOT of them in my area that are quite aggressive to humans. I will say, it's in the Ghetto areas where they want their dogs mean on purpose. When this breed has the highest human attack rate that far surpasses other breeds, you really can't say it's mostly breed out of them.
American Pitbulls are great dogs, but they are not for everyone. Actually, as a fan of American Pitbulls myself, I can say that they probably are the breed most people cannot handle. Their unrivaled combination of amazing strength, toughness, athleticism, tenacity, energy, prey drive, and obviously gameness is something the vast majority of people are not used to in a dog. The history explains their impressive physical and mental traits. Theories and histories vary, but based on two of the leading authors and historians of the breed (Richard F. Stratton and Diane Jessup), they were bred for what is known as catch work for wild boar and bulls and later used for sports like bull baiting and bear baiting before being turned to dog-vs.-dog combat when laws against these types of sports were passed. Even today, there are people that take part in dog-vs.-dog sports in America and others and bear baiting in places like Pakistan. One of the dogs of choice are Pitbulls.

About 2 years ago my brother lost his battle with addiction and passed away leaving behind a little boy and a little girl and his 3 Pitt bulls 2 girls and a boy (the dad ) I just found out the youngest of the them a little white a brown pitty was taken by his ex and not being treated the best she’s thin anxious and sad so I went there and took her back she’s is the absolute sweetest dog in ever meet in my life not a shred of aggression in her I don’t even get how it’s possible she’s great with my two cats and my shitzu I more worried about them hurting her then anything else haha but it’s the best decision I’ve ever made I’m gonna make sure this sweet baby’s is treated like the princess she is nothing but playing outside eating good food and getting love all the time and a comfy place to sleep right next to me and my other fur babies just like my brother she’s part of the family again it’s just nice to have a part of him back that he loves so much even through his addiction that took him from us he kept them healthy and well feed with a roof over their head and they all loved him so much no matter what happened I won’t let what he worked so hard for with his family be ruined completely ill do everything I can to make sure that she’s just as happy and healthy and ahead of would of been with him today if he was sober and still here with us ❤
So when my pibble was a puppy, he started to dig near our fence, and all it took was one time for me to tell him no for him to understand that this behavior was not okay. He is almost 4 years old now, and I have never seem him try to dig since.

It is true that "real pit bulls" are inclined to not get along with other dogs and generally do not attack people, but when this happens there is always an explanation and the fault is generally the owner or the human. It is easier for "the authorities" to eliminate a breed than to control foolish people who do not look after dogs well or who train them to attack without control. In a free Country, however, it shouldn't work like this... everyone must assume their responsibilities
I think it all depends on the people and how the pit bull is brought up . If you have them from a puppy then you are probably good but, I know we had a 5yr old massive male pit named bullet, and he came from a home with no kids or anything but had been exposed lightly to children and the previous owner said he was always fine with kids. So we brought him into a home with my little siblings (7yr old girl and 14yr old boy) and he was an angel for a long time it seemed like. Then one day out we were all outside playing and bullet was off in the woods playing by himself, and out of nowhere he ran out of the woods and charged my little sister and bit into her back and it took 3 full grown men to get him off. She had to get stitches and a lot of recovery time and now she has a huge fear of big dogs . I don't think it's right to write off all pits as being bad. But no matter the breed , always take precautions, please
Our neighbor started letting a new cat out in their backyard. Our Pitt Bull went underneath our chain link fence in about three seconds. Their Shibu Inu jumped on her, who promptly flipped him on his back, pinning him. It was disturbing. Our dog outweighed their's by at least double. I have trained Betsy to not bite from day one. If she had used her full strength, it could have been a bad ending. She isn't dog aggressive, yet she doesn't tolerate dogs that jump on her or act aggressive towards her. It scared me, but when I raised my voice and stopped her physically, the drama was over. If I hadn't trained her using your methods, the Shibu could have been in trouble. Slobbered was about it. We have reinforced the fence, and our neighbors no longer allow the cat out. Our dogs were professionally trained. My husband and I were both trained to use E collars by the trainer. The training has saved us from losing them on hikes. Deer, rabbits, squirrels trigger them. But a low touch brings them back instantly. One thing, both of our Pitts have sensitive pads and paws. Would you recommend booties for hiking with them?

I adopted my pitbull she was about 2 years old she was born in the shelter adopted and brought back (double felon) the moment I saw her I knew she was the one. She looks like she’s bite your head off but has the biggest heart. She loves other dogs, cats, and people I recognize she’s 1 of 1. That being said I still respect the breed. My biggest pet peeve is small women owning them because it becomes the public’s problem.
Um. A 'small woman' can train and control a dog as well as anyone. I'm a small woman, I own a pit, and she is NO ONE'S problem. Not mine, certainly not the public's. She's altogether lovely at home or in public, loves everyone, especially kids, has never set a paw wrong in any situation. Not sure why you think I shouldn't own this dog.

Honestly you can own the dog but you’re playing a dangerous game. Most states have a one bite rule and you have to pay fines. Hope it all works out for you though

An owner who relies on physical strength to overpower the dog is depending on brute force, not training, to control the dog. I already know she's a pit and she has to be twice as well-behaved as every other dog out there, and she doesn't get a second chance. So I make sure she is, and she has never defied me.
Lion-baiting, bear baiting, bull-baiting, badger-baiting and dog-fighting. The Bulldog-terriers bred back to terriers fought in the rat pits. The Bulldog was a small mastiff. It looked like a leggy mastiff just smaller. These bulldogs were said to weigh between 35 to 75 lbs. They looked like Pit Bulls. Or many did.

I’m so glad I saw this . We had a dog when I was kid but got rid of him after a couple months because nobody knew how to take care of him. Fast forward I got married and my husband always wanted a dog, he grew up with several. I said no. I just wasn’t interested. My mom passed last March and in August we came across the most precious pitty I ever layed eyes on. He has become my grief dog and best friend. I’m coming to the realization at his 10 months of age he needs some training and this video helped me be ok with that! Because I do feel like I am the perfect owner for him ❤ thanks for keeping it real. I agree 100% with everything you said in this video!!
Our 2 pitbull puppies (6 months old) left us a lovely Thanksgiving day present. They dug a huge mud hole in the backyard that filled up in the rain. So I'm going to Pet Smart and get some fish to stock it.
Since i was 5 till now im in my 30s weve always had 1 pitty in the family. Their loyal as long as you love them and exercise them they're great i have mine in an apart ment and is well behaved. So sweet with all the neighbors. She helped 1 of my neighbor's grow over her pitbull fears. Horrible guard dog tho lol.
I have a pitbull/rottweiler mix. I have 2 thoughts. Firstly, this is an amazing video. Secondly, mine was a complete mess until I found Garett's online training. If you are going to get a pit, Garett is your savior. I trust him completely and I would run any other advice by him before I used it. Thank you for changing our lives sir.
I have a mix of pit and cane corso i think, she is with me from age of 3 month's. Today she is 6 years old. Live with cat and very good with people. Her problem is with un none dogs. By my command she will make new contact. I love the bread Very smrt and powerful. Her name "Freedom"
GREAT VIDEO!! Very informative and honest in terms of pros vs cons. And of course there are gonna be a ton of people in the comments telling you how wrong you are that aren't professional trainers, but I think it's very telling that not only is a professional dog trainer speaking as to how great the APBT CAN be if you put the work in an an owner, but also I think the fact that you're a former cop who no doubt dealt with at least a few "loose pitbull" calls in your career has a positive opinion of the breed.
Well I have a XL Bully/Labrador mix, he is really lovable with us but tends to be a bit on the loud when encountering strangers and other dogs outside, I been working more with him lately and he is responding well to it but he can be a little stubborn, what do you think about this mix?
Absolutely great video! I had an English Staffie mix for 14 years. Best dog ever! She had a high prey drive but was great with other dogs and pets. Even our pet house chicken. When she passed we ended up adopting a 9 month old American Staffie. He was scared of everything but also has done great with our house chicken and pet rabbit. But he is highly reactive to other dogs. He’s 3 now and the e-collar has been great at helping when we do run into other dogs on walks. High levels of obedience has been ground breaking. But I do have to agree the PitBull has to be one of the best dogs out there when bred and trained properly.
I have a question, I have a 5 month old pitbull & she’s not aggressive at all, all she wants to do is play and run so I take her to the dog park but she keeps getting attacked by bigger dogs. I’ve taken her 3 times and she just keeps getting chased and thrown to the ground by bigger dogs. Do you know why she keeps getting picked on?

I grew up scared due to peoples opinions and news articles AKA one sided stories. I've heard of dachshunds attacking and biting people. Dont care who says what, in my opinion how a dog is, is 100% because of the human hands they're found in. No matter what genetics what dog breed has, if they are raised by the right hands and by wisdom, hands down pittys are on the top breeds for me out there. My little mongrel feel good and bad people and so with animals, and when se meets this pitty in the park they love on another and the boy is about 8 times her size. Very good video! The Pitbull is not for everyone, as some people claim. I am happy you didn't sugar coat. They are cool dogs but dogs but are WAY too common for their own good and the good of society. So no, they are not right for me even if I am active in dog sport and exercise my dogs much.
I had a patient who had 2 Pitts he was training to fight. He had a brilliant idea to give the dogs cocaine… then the guy fell asleep drunk outside of his house and the dogs ate his face. He had almost no skin on his face or scalp but survived. His eyes were removed as well. He went to rehab, fell, ripped off his flap and had a TBI…. And he was my patient again.
I got my first American pitbull terrier 12 years ago. He was my soul dog. He died last year due to lymphoma. I was dead set on getting another bully breed. And I just brought home my 1 & half year old American Bully this weekend He's amazing . You will never find such a loving & loyal dog
I can tell you right now our pitbull would not have survived in many homes, its been a long emotional destructive road but now hes almost 2 and one of the sweetest and most handsome dogs ive ever seen, unfortunately he developed arthritis and has one bad ccl and he still has too much energy which is making healing difficult. Its hard having dogs that dont train themselves like boxers
Everyone confuses the American Bully and the true Pit Bulldog. They are not for 95 percent of us. They are great with the family and children. They are dog aggressive. Period. That does not mean they all will attack a dog in sight - some are, however - but if a dog gets “chippy” it will attack it to dominate it at a minimum. Usually, it will severely hurt the other dog. The dog needs a lot of exercise. Be aware that having a Pit Bulldog and a treadmill can attract the Law thinking you’re a “dogfighter”. Add a springpole and lots of break sticks around (to pry them off whatever they may grab) and you could be in the news. They need to be kenneled or chained. They dig and they can go thru them. Lastly, they are not terriers. They are bulldogs.
@@maddogsenglishmen8020, what terriers have such blocky heads? Pit Bulldogs do not dig and go to ground like terriers. Pit Bulls do not have their tails set high like terriers. They have been and still are bulldogs by job and reality.
@WDLC1911 only big males really have somewhat big heads. Most females and normal size apbt have normal size heads and they are part bulldog and yes my dog digs for hours .
@@maddogsenglishmen8020, not sure what bloodline you have but the ones I have had do not resemble terriers and even by the literature of the time do not speak of bulldogs with anywhere near 50 percent terrier. So, I don’t know where people get the “terrier” from when we know the Bulldog was blended into terriers to harden the terriers.
A few years ago my friend was moving states and couldn’t take his dog he showed me a picture of this blue male apbt and I didn’t care much for him he brought him over so I could meet him. OH MY GOD, I fell in love with that boy he absolutely became my best friend I worked with him everyday he was the most intelligent dog I ever owned went every where with me. Strong, beautiful and so athletic. He hated cats and would chase them down but we worked and worked and worked on it and got him to let go of that. R.i.p buddy 😭 I miss you every day.
I have 2 lab-pit mixes. One male black with a chest blaze. He looks like a lab, but the personality of a pittie. Very vocal, woo woos, jumps up and down, does not like water. The female is a brindle, looks like a pittie. She has the personality of a lab. Laid back. She is my water dog, breaking through ice at 5°f. Loyal, attentive. 10 years old now. I will have them for 5 more. I had 2 labs and White Australian cattle dog that lived 15 years each. No bad dogs, bad owners.
My husband and I adopted a 1.5 y/o American Pitbull mix from a local shelter two months ago and have utilized this man's training videos for nearly every facet of training! The progress Miles has made in a couple of months is incredible! I know some may question his methods, but I HIGHLY recommend taking his advice, especially when it comes to breeds that may be a bit more "complicated." From my experience, Miles loves and thrives on routine, mental and physical exercise (at least 60 minutes a day, typically more), socialization (people and dogs), and consistency between my husband and me when it comes to commands and rules. In exchange for our commitment to giving him the life he deserves, Miles is the most affectionate dog either of us has ever had the pleasure of interacting with. I am a lifelong lover of all bully and pittie variations, but please make sure that if you're considering adopting one, that you are prepared to be a responsible owner so that you can avoid being a perpetuator of the stereotypes.
I have a pit bull mixed with a pocket bully, I don’t know what that means but yeah… I am a single mom and I trained my puppy. I got him to protect me and my son. I understand I have to continue to train him
To give you guys an idea of how energetic these dogs are... on Saturdays we use the flirt pole for 10-15 minutes THEN we go out on 5-7 mile moutain hikes. He takes a nap on the way home, then does zoomies when we get in the house. Thank god he settles well in his crate. After work is usually a 2 mile walk and 30 minutes of training or physical play. Admittedly we don't do much in the mornings because he likes to sleep in.
We can testify to that over here! We have two "pit-mixes" (male and female) and wow, the long short is everything you said + how much they have made us better people and leaders in our own life overall. Many happy years of love, joy, and growth to ya'll!

I have a blue noose pitbull and he is smart with alot of energy and he is a good dog that's strong and I do train him with getting him to be obedient and I do train Malcolm very well not to jump on people and beg and he listens to what me and my roommate tells him he catches on and we train him for alot of activities.
I rescued a baby pitbull that lived under a trailer. He was so a good puppy, was highly trained and socialized. He loved people but when he got to about 1 years old something happened and he became severely aggressive towards dogs. Started turning on our dog, cats and us. The moment he got fixated on a dog, there was no breaking his eye contact. Extremely high pain tolerance. He was so dangerous as the weeks went on, we brought his to broad and training , multiple vets and dog behavioralists. They all told his he was mentally off because if genetics and they believe he came from a generation of fighting. We no longer have him and the state I lived in at the time band pitbulls so he was forced to be euthanized. It was horrible. I’ve fostered and rescued pitbulls specifically that breed my whole life. Absolutely love these dogs. These dogs aren’t for everyone and you have to be very careful where you get you pitbull and meet the parents as well. I currently own a cane corso and she incredible. As much as I love pitties, and have a TON of experience with them, just be careful. I told myself if I couldn’t even own one, then most people can’t own one.

I had 3 American Pitbulls, my last one Trina died last year at 14 years old, it was hard to put her to sleep, she was huge part of the family. I had her since she was 3 months old.

I have an 'accidental' pit bull grand-dog. Long story short, we agreed to take her for a weekend, that was 5 years ago, and she's still here! My 3 men (husband, son, and little old-man dog we had at the time) decided she was a keeper. I've had dogs all my life, setters and collies, NICE dogs, and this pit girl is hands-down the BEST of them all. We love her SO much.
I do Doordash part time. I had massive bully pit rush up to me today. The thing just wanted my love and his owner was watching. I loved on him for a minute. He was the absolute sweetest thing. He even jumped in my driver seat when I opened it to leave. He just wanted to go on an adventure, but I redirected him to his dad. I have two huskies, so I get physical dogs. The moment you freeze on them, they can get testy. This one meant no harm. He licked my hand like crazy. I will remember him for awhile. I love dogs in general.
I went jogging once and a large pitty broke loose from its handler. Fortunately it was like every other pity I’d met and just jazzed about the chance to play. Knocked me down because she was so big but I barely got a skinned knee. It was a couple years before I worked for a dog trainer and even then I could tell her body language was all play, no fuss.

I am usually called a dog magnet by my friends because they just love me for some reason but the most happy a dog has ever gotten around me was a pitbull he just just licked me all over and even gave me gentle teeth grazes all over my arm and almost knocked me down. I have never seen a dog being so much happy upon meeting someone the first time (or any time tbh). And interesting part is that the owners were assholes and there was no training and not so good treatment. Yet that good boi had no aggression at all. I so wanted to free him from those assholes.
I have had and trained dogs all my life. My Wife and I have fostered and sheltered many dog breeds for many years. We got our Red Nose Pitty at 8 weeks old from a local rescue that advocates for this breed. THE BEST DOG I have ever had. Trained our girl at 6 months to catch a frisbee. She does this fun activity every night in spectacular fashion! She loves to "show off" and is so "present". Sweet and loving. Amazing around our grandchildren.
Yes high energy and they are BORN ATHLETES. You have to take this into consideration before you decide to own a Pit Bull. YOU have to exercise them everyday. I am a very active person, so I personally love this trait.

My pibble is amazingly sweet. He's a big lap dog. He has not met a stranger. However, even if he's friendly with people outside of his family, if my kids are around, he stays between the "stranger " and his kids. I love my bully breeds. Their personalities are unique. Lovable and goofy. Friendly but stealthly wary. My giant goofy house hippo has been an amazing addition to our family. We couldn't imagine life without him.
I’ve owned 2 pitbulls in my life… They were A lot of work but both times it paid off and I never had an issue with Tyson or Nala… I didnt know what I was doing when I got Tyson but I gave him all my attention and trained him as best as possible and he was one of the best dogs I even had… When I got Nala I knew what I was doing after having Tyson and Nala was even better both Nala and Tyson knew to bite if I was in danger but never did because when I said something they always listened… In my opinion if you cannot give a pitbull the exercise they need and the attention, Training they need DO NOT GET ONE! Do the dog a favour and do not get one… I didn’t have experience but I really did my research and gave both Tyson and Nala my full attention at all times even when they were trained, If you cannot do that do the dog a favour and don’t get one….

My neighbors old pitbull has never done literally anything besides walk around aimlessly and lay on the couch, I’ve never heard her bark or growl, and she’s never even snapped at anyone.
I've heard a video by an old time dogman who talked about a Pitbull getting stolen. Then according to a book I read years ago,when Vick was involved in dog fighting he stole peoples pet pit bulls to try and make a fighting dog out of. I guess they must not have been to aggressive if they were that easy to steal.
@@tritchie6272 I have that book, or at least the book you might be referring to, Lost Dogs? Its hard to believe its an older book now, time goes too fast. Richard Stratton books are the best APBT books, he talks about owners of game dogs keeping guard dogs to guard their properties filled with "dangerous pit bull dogs". I have seen them make good guard dogs and I have seen them make terrible guard dogs, and that's just fine, they were never intended to be guard dogs.

@@s.b.5259 Yeah... Exactly. You just added 3 breeds to it my guy. And it is not "a little bit of mastiff" it's either in the breed or it isn't, and there is a lot of mastiff in some Am bully lines... But the main point here is that you are adding mastiff and bulldog, which are 2 people aggressive breeds, with natural guarding instincts, and A LOT of size... That right there makes a total different dog.
APBTs are not people aggressive, and are no bigger than 55lbs... They're Terriers, and an American bully is so far from that.
You need to learn about dog bloodlines and breeding, and you'll learn how much an outcross affects a breed, not to mention a cross with a completely different dog breed... They're not even close to the same dog.
Not just pit bull most strong athletic guarding breeds should not be own by 50 percent of people.

9 years ago my wife and I decided to adopt a dog from the humane shelter here. It constantly has about 90% pit bulls and after doing a TON of research we decided to go with a pit bull. quite possibly a miss step not considering that a lot of dogs at the shelter had trauma and troubled pasts. Having said that we probably visited that shelter 3-4 times about 10 dogs before we settled on a 4 year old 55 lb blue pit/mastiff mix named Silva. we had previously decided 55 lbs was about max weight we wanted to go. We also didn't connect the dots that she was severely underweight from malnutrition and possible abuse because, she gained 20 lbs and maxed out eventually at 75 lbs lmao. Not sure if we got really lucky or we just didn't a halfway decent job with her or a mix of both but she ended up being quite literally the best dog I have ever owned. She was an angel with our new born baby and everyone she ever met. a couple months ago we had to say goodbye to her and it has been a pretty rough time for us and our kids, especially myself because the decision to get a dog was to help with my PTSD from the wars I served in and the anxiety and other issues stemming from the same. That dog quite literally saved my life, and I will never talk down about that breed ever in my life... she was a godsend. We are now working with a Cane Corso breeder here in Ohio and are going to be getting a puppy probably in the next six months or so. We WILL be getting your training program and following them as if our and others lives depends on it... because they do. sorry for the rant just had to vent a little bit lol.
I adopted a rescue, what I think, American bully. He was out in a blizzard wandering the town. Followed me home. I found owners and they GAVE him to me. He was underfed and starved for a pack. He assimilated with our collie mix, our young children, and then a brand new baby. He never leaves my side u less it’s to sleep. He has some dog aggression but only on a leash or behind fence. And only when I do not introduce the new dog to the pack. I am the alpha. If I bring a dog in he sees it as that dog is under his protection. Honestly one of if not the best dog I have ever owned. They have amazing ability and need to be socialized and trained in a pack structure. And they love it. Make them sit and wait for food. They love it. They love you for it. An experienced owner is key.
Couldn't agree more.. I got my american bully about 6 months ago as a puppy from a breeder.. he loves people and other animals , we even have 2 cats one of which is 23 years old and he's amazing around them. I've been training him to be alone without crating or anything and he's doing very well.. he went from ripping apart anything he could find like a napkin or paper, to complete relaxation and can be left alone for about 2.5-3 hours now at 6 months .
Hardest part has been his recall because he gets playing and now he's interested in something else but when listening or tired has no issues in recall at that point so still alot of work to do but he's been amazing

Pitbulls should not be owned by 90% of the people that own them right now. Anytime I see a pitbull at the park where I run they are always pulling on the leash with no recall and the owner is leaning back to keep the dog some what controlled.

They sure are not for everyone but in the right hands great dogs. I got one that I saved out of his former tragic situation. Had 7 pre owners at 11 months and was treated badly and worse. I trained him from day one from 11 1/2 months old. He couldn't even walk on a leash, had no good habits and was very fearful. Over time we build a wonderful bond, he behaves very well, likes cats and is quite confident today, very loyal and the best dog I ever had! I changed work for him and take him with me almost everywhere,even to the hairdresser and martial arts training. After a little while he started to just chill until finished. Never damaged any furniture or other in the last years.
Very thankful and snuggly with people he knows, great guard dog when it comes to strangers coming near the House. wonderful character and intelligent. They know when you try to fool them. One needs to be consistent, reliable and have clarity when wanting a dog like this. If you don't lead they will take over.

Nitro my former pitbull may he rest in peace... was the best dog I ever had not at all violent never bit anyone or anything and I rescued him from the shelter at 3 months old weighting only ten pounds. Problem is always the owners never the dogs. All dogs go to heaven😊

I had the opportunity to train APB littermates (a male and a female), for a salon client of mine. My mother was a dog trainer, and I had been working with dogs since childhood. (Mom used the Koehler method, and crate training for house breaking, as do I)
The dogs lived with me for 8 months and it was the experience of a lifetime. Such smart, loving, and loyal dogs. Very rewarding to work with, and such goofy personalities. The male loved opera, and was (when we began), terrified of jumping in and out of the truck, while the female was fearless and had to be kept in line because her dominance over her brother due to the littermate factor... but she was so affectionate with my other dogs and us.
My client was a terrific APB mom, too as she learned all the commands I had taught and even spent a few sessions with me working with them to be sure she had all her ducks in a row before allowing them to return home with her. She gets compliments to this day on how well behaved the two are. 🥰🥰🙏

I was NEVER a fan of this breed. But a couple of summers ago, we rescued an AmStaff that was left for dead in the streets of AZ. She was used as a bait dog. This girl won my heart, and now I love this breed. She's has a lot of trauma we're working through, but she's loyal beyond belief. We're working with a trainer and it's definitely helping us. She's learning to trust people again and I couldn't be more proud of her ❤ We named her Summer.

We ended up coming home with a pittie from Arizona Humane Society 4 years ago. Having Huskies, Rottweiler and Akita among other rescues over the years. Our Pitt Belle is by far the most affectionate, sweetest, well behaved dog my husband and I have ever had the pure enjoyment of her being in our life. We recently rescued a 1 yo male someone found on the street of downtown Phoenix. He is a sweetheart, gets along well Belle yet he is still in training…hehe. A 24/7 joy. These 2 dogs are the best thing ever to happen for us❤️
I have a Pitbull-Jack Russell mix. She an amazing friend and companion.
We have a female black and white pit bull. She's 65 lbs. I am very fortunate that I live on 4 1/2 acres of land most of it woods. I opened the back door and off she goes getting all of her energy out. She is now nine years old and I am 70. She thinks that she needs to go everywhere I go to protect me. We take her in the pick up with us all the time. A lot of times she'll go next door to the kids that are 11,10 and 7 years old. This dog loves children. They also have a little dog that weighs about 8 lbs. She plays with this dog they chase each other all over their backyard. it is so funny to see them play tag. And then she comes back home. I can truly say this is one of the best dogs we've ever had. When she goes to dog heaven we will most probably buy another one.
I’ve had 4, every one was absolutely precious and loving. My boy who lived to be 14 was so sweet and submissive that you felt sorry for him almost. My oldest one lived to be over 16 years and we were so close. None ever showed aggression and it’s a shame ignorance has caused people to label pitties as dangerous dogs when this simply isn’t the truth.

Having Pitbulls & Bully’s, my Bully’s were better protectors than my Pitbull. However, if I was being attacked by another animal (I pray that never happens) but I would trust my Pitbull over my Bully’s. Great dogs, easy to train & very driven! Great video about the breed!

My wife and I have a 14 yo Pitbull Terroir and he's the perfect house dog. We also now have two 8 week old brother and sister American Bullies. The pups are already mimicking our other dog by going outside to potty (not every time lol) they understand the word no, show remorse if blood is drawn while playing and extra affectionate. Their father has a 24 inch neck so we're excited to see how they grow.
Great stuff. Pitbulls need owners who know what time it is for sure. Their tenacity can be off the charts. My current pit has graduated to "advanced" training classes--we're offleash and on long lines with other dogs, pretty fun. I've noticed everything mentioned in the video, but also, the shepherd dogs seem to stay on task a little better than my pit or any pit I've had. There's a little bit of terrier "look a squirrel!" going on with pits. They're great dogs if you have the time and commitment.
Thank you for being one of the good ones. My first was CGC certified and had a high prey drive and was stubborn as he'll. She also was very dog selective esp as she aged and passed from cancer at 11. Not one injury to a person or dog and never let to run amuck in the neighborhood. My current pit wil be 3 in July and is even more obedient and Def more submissive than my first. Takes a lot of dedication and understanding their body language n motivation but as I'm sure you'd agree it's worth it

The main issue we have now is the fact that there are a lot of backyard breeders who aren't properly aware of what traits they are looking for combined with enthusiastic but inexperienced owners, which is creating such a bad rep for any bull named dog. I'm not a massive advocate for them being banned or unbanned, but i just know that my golden retriever has been attacked twice by 2 separate bull style dogs, both being potentially american bull dogs, but i can't be exactly sure. Both times, awful owners who had this meat ball of energy running all over the streets off lead, my dog can't have been the only thing they attacked.
My pitbull (since passed away and was my whole life) was attacked three times by labradors. She was the sweetest dog on the face of the planet. I think it's just the people.

I took the "risk" of adopting a 2-year-old American Staffy from a no-kill shelter as my first dog (it was love at first sight). We spent 12 wonderful loving years together until she passed from bone cancer in May. She needed ALOT of exercise. Min. of 40-minute walks 3 times a day and off-leash running at the dog park until she tired out. My family members tried to convince me to return her, I'm so glad I stood my ground and refused. She did have her quirks (dog selective, warry of some men, and didn't like strangers coming into the house or near the car). I'm sure those quirks were from her previous home but also because as a new dog owner, I didn't know how to properly socialize her and push past it. I 100% believe a good dog owner makes for a good dog.

I had 13 pit bulls and trained everyone of them and never had any problems with them. Walked them off leash. Where other dogs was and had no problems. It’s those owners that don’t understand the bred and what they can do if not trained right.

Best sweetest dog I’ve ever had is my bully mix. She’s never started an issue in fact runs from fights. She’s super easy to train since she wants to please above all. Biggest issue with her is just keeping up with her energy. Regardless of how tired you are you have to get up and exercise this type of dog

I have a male APBT that I scooped up from the middle of the road in a bad area. He has been the best dog I have ever had. Phenomenal dog. He is super high energy and an insane intenseness that is shocking. I found him at 5 weeks old and he was for sure going to be used as a fighter had I not found him. You have to be willing to give them plenty of attention and love.
We rescued our poptato 12 years ago. He was a bate dog and outrageously abused. He was extremely dog aggressive. With years of constant work and proper training he became a loved member of our whole community. My best buddy is now resting in the flowers. I'm lucky to have had special people in my life to teach me the way.
I’ve realized people & the media pretty much call any dog with a certain look a pit bull - especially if an incident occurred. Couple weeks ago early in the morning I spotted a beautiful white dog when I was bringing my son to the bus stop.. I’d never seen him before, he was kinda hiding behind a garbage can upstairs infront of an apartment where I knew he didn’t belong. I drove up and I swear- & this has never happened before- I felt an INSTANT connection to this guy 🤦🏻♀️ the way he looked at me… pleading eyes, soft eyes- but I knew very few others would see it.. they’d only see a loose pit bull. I put down some treats I had in my car & called him down to it and then had to leave to bring my other kids to school- but as soon as I was done I wanted to go back to check on him. I asked around & no one had seen him before- they all said he showed up over night. & of course they all warned me “I wouldn’t get too close… I wouldn’t mess with that dog if I were you “.. but as soon as I rolled my window down & spoke to him he remembered me from earlier- that tail started happily wagging & he bounced on down & came over to my car. I tossed him a giant cookie I had and he was so excited he spun around, did a play bow, came to my window for pets,& then grabbed the cookie. He followed me home which was soooo heartbreaking! I knew I couldn’t take him inside, my husband would not be happy with me, & the side gate to the fence no longer exists so I couldn’t put him in the yard- not to mention my scary 8lbs little baby & my cat.. the neighbors on each side of me also had tiny dogs, one of which is outside 90% of the time- plus a lot of outside cats. So I didn’t feel good about leaving him in the yard. I made a ton of phone calls with no luck, ended up having to drive back where I found him- letting him follow- just to drive away. Which there’s no words to how heartbroken I felt! But I spent the next 24 hours on my phone- making calls, going on social media, sending emails, etc. and visiting him. Through this I found out a neighbor around the corner actually helps rescue & she fosters- the only issue was she was leaving out the country in 2 days. She went & got him that night, so he had a warm place to sleep- and the next day I went over there so we could make a plan. Btw- I walked in & he was laying in an open kennel, as soon as I spoke he ran to me.. I think he thought he was a lap dog for a moment because he sure tried to lay on my lap 😆 the absolute SWEETEST dog I think I’ve ever met, & extremely well behaved- and very smart. Picked up what was wanted from him very quickly, & i believe he’s fairly young.. less than a year old. Anyway we convinced a best friend of mine to take him for the 2 weeks my neighbor will be gone- she has an American pit terrier and a pug mix. Once neighbor returns she’ll foster him until we find him a home. In the meantime- I get to visit him whenever I want!
But my point in bringing this up-
This was the sweetest dog, lovable, friendly, well behaved.. he instantly got along with the other dogs (not only the 2 at my friends, but the German shepherd & boxer mix my neighbor has. He was well mannered & did great around the kids, and beautifully meeting new people! Anyone would be lucky to have him! .. but I wonder, how long would he have been on the streets if I hadn’t seen him. How many people would have past him up- how many wouldn’t have even given a second look, simply because they see a “pit bull” . And what worries me & breaks my heart the most- how many people would have mistreated him out of fear & ignorance… how often does that occur!
I remember one year for Thanksgiving at my parents- all of us were outside, and so were the family next door. & suddenly this bouncy wobbly guy come running-
The family next door, adults & kids both, started screaming- trying to kick at him- yelling at him- one person grabbed a broom 🤦🏻♀️ I called him over & as I dealt with him I looked over to the next yard and said “HES A PUPPY! He might look “big”, but this is a puppy- a puppy who was excited to see people, & wanted to join in” they called him a pit and NO PART OF HIM was a any kind of pit🤦🏻♀️ and he couldn’t have been no more than 6months old.
I wish more people educated themselves…. Even, & especially, the ones who have a fear of dogs. You don’t have to be a dog lover- you don’t even have to interact with them.. but you should at least be informed on the basics- and if you are afraid, you should learn how to read the basic body language-& learn what to do & not to do if you come across a dog. And PLEASE, stop labeling every dam dog a “pit”, & stop blaming every bad behavior or tragic incident on them

Can you do a breed review on the Greyhound?
I wouldn't do a wooden/plastic fence, dogs don't like pawing a medal fence. I wouldn't own a high drive Pitbull, but most bull breeds won't back down from a fight started by another dog, even if they're not dog aggressive.
Far too often Pits and Pit mixes are owned by people who should not be around any dogs.
I just learned of this guy a few months ago and I do watch his shorts mostly here and there, I love that he likes the Cane Corso, my uncle was a dog lover, and he passed away years ago, with what UA-cam is now, it would have helped him a lot. He had a Rottweiler mix Pitbull, very aggressive to everyone else apart from him.
I love my pit. when we go to town I use a e collar as well as a slipleash while Thor is male dog aggressive he does no t got after them. I put him in the sit/stay position he sits grumbles but does not attempt to attack. He is not happy. Pitties are amazing when trained and raised properly. Thor does not use a crate. He is inside and p paad trained for when I am at work. He sleeps in bed with me at night. and we go out a lot to play.
Thanks for the video mate, I thought it was fair and can't say that often with pit bull videos. I had game bred APBT when I was young and I love them more than any other breed, but breed specific laws have made the unpractical for me to own. Love seeing them being able to reach their full potential by those that own and work them and understand how they should be. Would love to see a return of smaller APBT.
My first dog is a pitbull (I bought him to help with my chronic pain.) Had him for 3 years and counting. The two things that have kept him from becoming a disaster are that I am housebound and I take an absurd amount of personal pride in the things I do. I simply will not allow this dog to be a bad dog. Spoiled? Oh sure. He's spoiled rotten. But bad? Not a chance. Through mutual respect and an iron hand to match his iron will, he and I have worked together to turn him into the best dog in walking distance (can't drive so I can't gauge that far out.)

Nice to see a vid from someone that doesn't have some bias and gives the pros and cons. Though you say they aren't human aggressive, there seem be a LOT of them in my area that are quite aggressive to humans. I will say, it's in the Ghetto areas where they want their dogs mean on purpose. When this breed has the highest human attack rate that far surpasses other breeds, you really can't say it's mostly breed out of them.

About 2 years ago my brother lost his battle with addiction and passed away leaving behind a little boy and a little girl and his 3 Pitt bulls 2 girls and a boy (the dad ) I just found out the youngest of the them a little white a brown pitty was taken by his ex and not being treated the best she’s thin anxious and sad so I went there and took her back she’s is the absolute sweetest dog in ever meet in my life not a shred of aggression in her I don’t even get how it’s possible she’s great with my two cats and my shitzu I more worried about them hurting her then anything else haha but it’s the best decision I’ve ever made I’m gonna make sure this sweet baby’s is treated like the princess she is nothing but playing outside eating good food and getting love all the time and a comfy place to sleep right next to me and my other fur babies just like my brother she’s part of the family again it’s just nice to have a part of him back that he loves so much even through his addiction that took him from us he kept them healthy and well feed with a roof over their head and they all loved him so much no matter what happened I won’t let what he worked so hard for with his family be ruined completely ill do everything I can to make sure that she’s just as happy and healthy and ahead of would of been with him today if he was sober and still here with us ❤

So when my pibble was a puppy, he started to dig near our fence, and all it took was one time for me to tell him no for him to understand that this behavior was not okay. He is almost 4 years old now, and I have never seem him try to dig since.

It is true that "real pit bulls" are inclined to not get along with other dogs and generally do not attack people, but when this happens there is always an explanation and the fault is generally the owner or the human. It is easier for "the authorities" to eliminate a breed than to control foolish people who do not look after dogs well or who train them to attack without control. In a free Country, however, it shouldn't work like this... everyone must assume their responsibilities

If you have them from a puppy then you are probably good but, I know we had a 5yr old massive male pit named bullet, and he came from a home with no kids or anything but had been exposed lightly to children and the previous owner said he was always fine with kids. So we brought him into a home with my little siblings (7yr old girl and 14yr old boy) and he was an angel for a long time it seemed like. Then one day out we were all outside playing and bullet was off in the woods playing by himself, and out of nowhere he ran out of the woods and charged my little sister and bit into her back and it took 3 full grown men to get him off. She had to get stitches and a lot of recovery time and now she has a huge fear of big dogs . I don't think it's right to write off all pits as being bad. But no matter the breed , always take precautions, please

Our neighbor started letting a new cat out in their backyard. Our Pitt Bull went underneath our chain link fence in about three seconds. Their Shibu Inu jumped on her, who promptly flipped him on his back, pinning him. It was disturbing. Our dog outweighed their's by at least double. I have trained Betsy to not bite from day one. If she had used her full strength, it could have been a bad ending. She isn't dog aggressive, yet she doesn't tolerate dogs that jump on her or act aggressive towards her. It scared me, but when I raised my voice and stopped her physically, the drama was over. If I hadn't trained her using your methods, the Shibu could have been in trouble. Slobbered was about it. We have reinforced the fence, and our neighbors no longer allow the cat out. Our dogs were professionally trained. My husband and I were both trained to use E collars by the trainer. The training has saved us from losing them on hikes. Deer, rabbits, squirrels trigger them. But a low touch brings them back instantly. One thing, both of our Pitts have sensitive pads and paws. Would you recommend booties for hiking with them?
So YOUR dog DUG UNDER A FENCE to MAUL and KILL that cat and you’re judging the Shiba Inu for how it reacted. Now your neighbors probably don’t feel safe in their own backyard.

I adopted my pitbull she was about 2 years old she was born in the shelter adopted and brought back (double felon) the moment I saw her I knew she was the one. She looks like she’s bite your head off but has the biggest heart. She loves other dogs, cats, and people I recognize she’s 1 of 1. That being said I still respect the breed. My biggest pet peeve is small women owning them because it becomes the public’s problem.
Um. A 'small woman' can train and control a dog as well as anyone. I'm a small woman, I own a pit, and she is NO ONE'S problem. Not mine, certainly not the public's. She's altogether lovely at home or in public, loves everyone, especially kids, has never set a paw wrong in any situation. Not sure why you think I shouldn't own this dog.
@@burghbrat3319 respectfully the only reason you can “control” your pit is because it lets you. If you trained her to not be a problem then good for you but imagine if you had to control a pit that size that wasn’t yours. How would you do then?
@@burghbrat3319 if for some reason your pit didn’t listen to you we the public have to suffer. I know your dog is perfect but for every one of you it’s 10 bad owners. Honestly you can own the dog but you’re playing a dangerous game. Most states have a one bite rule and you have to pay fines. Hope it all works out for you though
@@TheJoeSquad A well-trained dog can be walked on a strand of dental floss and will respond to a voice command. An owner who relies on physical strength to overpower the dog is depending on brute force, not training, to control the dog. I already know she's a pit and she has to be twice as well-behaved as every other dog out there, and she doesn't get a second chance. So I make sure she is, and she has never defied me.

The Bulldog was a small mastiff. It looked like a leggy mastiff just smaller. These bulldogs were said to weigh between 35 to 75 lbs. They looked like Pit Bulls. Or many did.
The once in a lifetime dog for myself was a RedNose PitBull. Fantastic dog, beautiful, loyal, athletic & a giant heart w/ no quit. Unfortunately mislabeled & misunderstood too often
Mine was also a rednose. She was a remarkable dog, loving and kind to everything, very trainable. Personally the rednose have become my favorite

I’m so glad I saw this . We had a dog when I was kid but got rid of him after a couple months because nobody knew how to take care of him. Fast forward I got married and my husband always wanted a dog, he grew up with several. I said no. I just wasn’t interested. My mom passed last March and in August we came across the most precious pitty I ever layed eyes on. He has become my grief dog and best friend. I’m coming to the realization at his 10 months of age he needs some training and this video helped me be ok with that! Because I do feel like I am the perfect owner for him ❤ thanks for keeping it real. I agree 100% with everything you said in this video!!
Our 2 pitbull puppies (6 months old) left us a lovely Thanksgiving day present. They dug a huge mud hole in the backyard that filled up in the rain. So I'm going to Pet Smart and get some fish to stock it.

Since i was 5 till now im in my 30s weve always had 1 pitty in the family. Their loyal as long as you love them and exercise them they're great i have mine in an apart ment and is well behaved. So sweet with all the neighbors. She helped 1 of my neighbor's grow over her pitbull fears. Horrible guard dog tho lol.
I have a pitbull/rottweiler mix. I have 2 thoughts. Firstly, this is an amazing video. Secondly, mine was a complete mess until I found Garett's online training. If you are going to get a pit, Garett is your savior. I trust him completely and I would run any other advice by him before I used it. Thank you for changing our lives sir.

Live with cat and very good with people.

GREAT VIDEO!! Very informative and honest in terms of pros vs cons. And of course there are gonna be a ton of people in the comments telling you how wrong you are that aren't professional trainers, but I think it's very telling that not only is a professional dog trainer speaking as to how great the APBT CAN be if you put the work in an an owner, but also I think the fact that you're a former cop who no doubt dealt with at least a few "loose pitbull" calls in your career has a positive opinion of the breed.

Well I have a XL Bully/Labrador mix, he is really lovable with us but tends to be a bit on the loud when encountering strangers and other dogs outside, I been working more with him lately and he is responding well to it but he can be a little stubborn, what do you think about this mix?

I had an English Staffie mix for 14 years. Best dog ever! She had a high prey drive but was great with other dogs and pets. Even our pet house chicken. When she passed we ended up adopting a 9 month old American Staffie. He was scared of everything but also has done great with our house chicken and pet rabbit. But he is highly reactive to other dogs. He’s 3 now and the e-collar has been great at helping when we do run into other dogs on walks. High levels of obedience has been ground breaking. But I do have to agree the PitBull has to be one of the best dogs out there when bred and trained properly.
I have a question, I have a 5 month old pitbull & she’s not aggressive at all, all she wants to do is play and run so I take her to the dog park but she keeps getting attacked by bigger dogs. I’ve taken her 3 times and she just keeps getting chased and thrown to the ground by bigger dogs. Do you know why she keeps getting picked on?

Dont care who says what, in my opinion how a dog is, is 100% because of the human hands they're found in. No matter what genetics what dog breed has, if they are raised by the right hands and by wisdom, hands down pittys are on the top breeds for me out there. My little mongrel feel good and bad people and so with animals, and when se meets this pitty in the park they love on another and the boy is about 8 times her size. She loves him the most in that park❤

The Pitbull is not for everyone, as some people claim. I am happy you didn't sugar coat. They are cool dogs but dogs but are WAY too common for their own good and the good of society. So no, they are not right for me even if I am active in dog sport and exercise my dogs much.
Any differences to consider with a dog that’s 3/4 Pit and 1/4 Mastiff?
If you fear a dog... it will know. But more important, if you fear the pain of the bite......... they also know.
I had a patient who had 2 Pitts he was training to fight. He had a brilliant idea to give the dogs cocaine… then the guy fell asleep drunk outside of his house and the dogs ate his face. He had almost no skin on his face or scalp but survived. His eyes were removed as well. He went to rehab, fell, ripped off his flap and had a TBI…. And he was my patient again.
I got my first American pitbull terrier 12 years ago. He was my soul dog. He died last year due to lymphoma. I was dead set on getting another bully breed.
And I just brought home my 1 & half year old American Bully this weekend

I can tell you right now our pitbull would not have survived in many homes, its been a long emotional destructive road but now hes almost 2 and one of the sweetest and most handsome dogs ive ever seen, unfortunately he developed arthritis and has one bad ccl and he still has too much energy which is making healing difficult. Its hard having dogs that dont train themselves like boxers

Everyone confuses the American Bully and the true Pit Bulldog.
They are not for 95 percent of us.
They are great with the family and children.
They are dog aggressive. Period. That does not mean they all will attack a dog in sight - some are, however - but if a dog gets “chippy” it will attack it to dominate it at a minimum. Usually, it will severely hurt the other dog.
The dog needs a lot of exercise. Be aware that having a Pit Bulldog and a treadmill can attract the Law thinking you’re a “dogfighter”. Add a springpole and lots of break sticks around (to pry them off whatever they may grab) and you could be in the news.
They need to be kenneled or chained. They dig and they can go thru them.
Lastly, they are not terriers. They are bulldogs.

@WDLC1911 only big males really have somewhat big heads. Most females and normal size apbt have normal size heads and they are part bulldog and yes my dog digs for hours .

So, I don’t know where people get the “terrier” from when we know the Bulldog was blended into terriers to harden the terriers.

A few years ago my friend was moving states and couldn’t take his dog he showed me a picture of this blue male apbt and I didn’t care much for him he brought him over so I could meet him. OH MY GOD, I fell in love with that boy he absolutely became my best friend I worked with him everyday he was the most intelligent dog I ever owned went every where with me. Strong, beautiful and so athletic. He hated cats and would chase them down but we worked and worked and worked on it and got him to let go of that. R.i.p buddy 😭 I miss you every day.

I have 2 lab-pit mixes. One male black with a chest blaze. He looks like a lab, but the personality of a pittie. Very vocal, woo woos, jumps up and down, does not like water. The female is a brindle, looks like a pittie. She has the personality of a lab. Laid back. She is my water dog, breaking through ice at 5°f. Loyal, attentive. 10 years old now. I will have them for 5 more. I had 2 labs and White Australian cattle dog that lived 15 years each. No bad dogs, bad owners.
My husband and I adopted a 1.5 y/o American Pitbull mix from a local shelter two months ago and have utilized this man's training videos for nearly every facet of training! The progress Miles has made in a couple of months is incredible! I know some may question his methods, but I HIGHLY recommend taking his advice, especially when it comes to breeds that may be a bit more "complicated." From my experience, Miles loves and thrives on routine, mental and physical exercise (at least 60 minutes a day, typically more), socialization (people and dogs), and consistency between my husband and me when it comes to commands and rules. In exchange for our commitment to giving him the life he deserves, Miles is the most affectionate dog either of us has ever had the pleasure of interacting with. I am a lifelong lover of all bully and pittie variations, but please make sure that if you're considering adopting one, that you are prepared to be a responsible owner so that you can avoid being a perpetuator of the stereotypes.

I have a pit bull mixed with a pocket bully, I don’t know what that means but yeah… I am a single mom and I trained my puppy. I got him to protect me and my son. I understand I have to continue to train him
To give you guys an idea of how energetic these dogs are... on Saturdays we use the flirt pole for 10-15 minutes THEN we go out on 5-7 mile moutain hikes. He takes a nap on the way home, then does zoomies when we get in the house. Thank god he settles well in his crate. After work is usually a 2 mile walk and 30 minutes of training or physical play. Admittedly we don't do much in the mornings because he likes to sleep in.
We can testify to that over here! We have two "pit-mixes" (male and female) and wow, the long short is everything you said + how much they have made us better people and leaders in our own life overall. Many happy years of love, joy, and growth to ya'll!

I have a blue noose pitbull and he is smart with alot of energy and he is a good dog that's strong and I do train him with getting him to be obedient and I do train Malcolm very well not to jump on people and beg and he listens to what me and my roommate tells him he catches on and we train him for alot of activities.
I rescued a baby pitbull that lived under a trailer. He was so a good puppy, was highly trained and socialized. He loved people but when he got to about 1 years old something happened and he became severely aggressive towards dogs. Started turning on our dog, cats and us. The moment he got fixated on a dog, there was no breaking his eye contact. Extremely high pain tolerance. He was so dangerous as the weeks went on, we brought his to broad and training , multiple vets and dog behavioralists. They all told his he was mentally off because if genetics and they believe he came from a generation of fighting. We no longer have him and the state I lived in at the time band pitbulls so he was forced to be euthanized. It was horrible.
I’ve fostered and rescued pitbulls specifically that breed my whole life. Absolutely love these dogs. These dogs aren’t for everyone and you have to be very careful where you get you pitbull and meet the parents as well. I currently own a cane corso and she incredible. As much as I love pitties, and have a TON of experience with them, just be careful. I told myself if I couldn’t even own one, then most people can’t own one.

I had 3 American Pitbulls, my last one Trina died last year at 14 years old, it was hard to put her to sleep, she was huge part of the family. I had her since she was 3 months old.
