- What is improv quilting,? Improv quilt is the creative progress of assembling a quilt with no pattern in mind, just spontaneously choosing colors and shapes that are sewn together to create a unique and fun quilt.
Improv quilt is a great opportunity to practice basic quilting skills, but also test your creative mind. Your choices determine your outcome, so colors in particular will make a big impact.
This video is a great introduction if you want to know how to do improv quilting, but haven't dived in yet. Or maybe you've tried improv quilting, but it didn't turn out the way you want. We'll discuss choosing good fabrics and colors and show you an example of a finished improv quilt.
Improv quilts can be more structured or funky and fun. It's really all about what you want to create. You can choose an overall theme if you want (like a color palette or a shape) to help guide you on your improv quilting quest.

I too have suffered through tiresome definitions of what is modern quilting. I think what we really mean is "non-traditional", period!
