Great info vid and love the channel. I heard you mention St Croix and how they break easily. I broke 3 of the St Croix inshore mojo's in one month last fall. I told them I was going to just start using ugly stik's. They are definitely stronger more durable rods. Fishing snobs want to trash talk when it is just way more economical and you still catch the same fish you would catch with a rod that costs 3-4 times as much.
Love Ugly Stiks. Been fishing them for 25 plus years. Still fishing the first ones I ever bought. Coupled with my 90's vintage Penn reels, they are unstoppable. BTW, I fish out of Ponce as well and love the channel. Great job!
Great video from someone that knows what is what. I have some Ugly Stik Bigwaters that are 25-30 years old. They outlasted may other rods through fishing, transporting, and moving residence. Many others did not. Now I look back andhave lots of memories with them. In Sonoma County I'm having a hard time finding the Elite Rods. They are either the original regular Ugly Stik Tiger Rod or the Elite-Jigging Rod. I ordered one of those Casting Ugly Stik Bigwater Medium Heavy Rods and a Medium powered rod and there is a big difference between the two! Medium Heavy is way beefier.
Awesome video! Because of you and Mike D, all I have been buying for my new boat are Uglystiks and discounted Penns. Loving the spinfisher vi discount at basspro right now! I've bought 3 so far with, gx2, tiger elite, and carbon. Very informative and thank you! I bought m y son a real nice Penn combo and Penn rod broke on 1st trip out with it SMH, lol
I have a 7' tiger 30-60lb paired with a penn slammer 4...8500 😂i know its over kill of a reel and i admit i purchased it when i was just getting into big game fishing i could of went with a 4500 or 6500 model and been just as efficient...on the positive side its been working out great on a braided line 40lbs-800yds and the largest specs read 65lbs-605yds...now getting into mono 20lb-495yds and 40lbs-285yad...so that is the plus side knowing i have a reel that can hold tons of line and a rod that can handle 70% of game out there..im a huge fan of ugly stik for the same exact reasons..
Ugly Stik is a heck of a work horse rod. I prefer the intercoastal series but I also have a few of the tiger rods and absolutely love them for all the types of fishing my way. To be honest the rods are great and super durable so whatever reel you want to put on it just enhances the set up. For those of you who think buying a $150- $300 rod just for name sake is the way to go then go for it. You can be out there fishing with the other "beauty contestants" but we all know Pretty don't catch fish. ( that was an ugly stik joke, ; ) )
Good review on the Ugly Stiks. I have a bunch that have lasted a long time. Check out Star Rods Aerial model, for your conventional reel, with the “foul proof” guides. They’re pretty indestructible and value priced too.
Love my tiger and tiger elites jigging rids for bank fishing. 6.3ft. Just rite. Throw lures great and backbone to handle 25 pound 9:51 Tarpon fish on canal in current easily
I've been a fan of Ugly Stik rods my entire life and have several paired with PENN Battle, 450, (2) 460's, and a Fathom II. I broke the largest eye on one and that is the only issue I've had. I am going to replace the eye and keep using it.
I had the same issues with about 4-5 inches of the rod breaking on the fierce combos. I was glad i bought the warranty at bass pro and have never had a issue when taking them in for a warranty claim. I just take the line spool off and swap it onto the new reel.
I also have my penn reels paired with ugly sticks, Two on the intercoastal and two on the tiger elite series, I have had no problems with either of them, I got them for there 7 year warranty. I don't know of many rods that offer that.
I've been using Ugly Sticks forever and never had one snap on me or break the tip. Some of the more expensive rods break to easy. If you think the Ugly Stick is too heavy for you, you might want to hit the gym. 🤣
You couldn't have said i any better people who know know You can run out and spend all that crazy money on gear and still not catch any fish I watch your videos and i see a man catching fish and having fun doing it It's that what it's all about family ,friends ,and memories
I can see why you use them as a charter captain with first timers using them. Plus as boat rods they get beat up a little more. Now I've never used those style ugly sticks you use but I have owned and used ugly sticks they're not for me. After using quality rods there's no comparison in sensitivity weight quality comfort ect. I'm using a g loomis now with a lifetime warranty. Ive had good luck and really liked the cabelas rods. Ive owned at least one of every series. They changed the warranty a while ago tho. The best xml went from lifetime or 25 year to 6 month. Ive broken a tourney trail rod sliding on rocks and fell on it. They replaced it no questions asked. I still have one guide series from around 1997 caught a lot of fish and used it tons. Those are the cheaper ones. Since you want a cheap rod look into the cabelas ones.
i absolutely love ugly stik. i dont care if they're the "cheap" rods. ive caught a 150lb sturgeon on a MEDIUM LIGHT ugly stik tiger..The rod isnt nearly as important as the reel imo.
Almost every guide I've fished with has ugly sticks on board. You guide to make money and customers breaking 300$ to 500$ rods ain't gonna cut it. I've caught red fish trout tarpon sharks grouper you name it with an ugly stick at some point. I'd rather have a nice smooth reel.
Great info vid and love the channel.

… we’ll said 👍👏👏👏
Ugly sticks are the best! Fishing in Florida for over 20 years and have never broken an Ugly!
Love Ugly Stiks. Been fishing them for 25 plus years. Still fishing the first ones I ever bought. Coupled with my 90's vintage Penn reels, they are unstoppable. BTW, I fish out of Ponce as well and love the channel. Great job!

I use my Ugly Stiks as a tool, not as an exhibition piece. They work well and are reasonably priced.

I love your video and I also love your answer about the rod. I am 43 years old and I have never seen that rod break ever.
Appreciate the kudos 🙏🏻

I agree with you 100%. love my ugly sticks and I have mine paired with Penn Spinfisher and Slammer reels and they work great together.
… right on 👊💥
