    Thank you! I have just been tincturing everything I can this year. Last year was when I first started and that was towards the end of the season. This plant IS mentioned in the book I got but I just recognized it today while watching another herbalist. I have seen them all over at the sides of my yard, where I don't mow (I just went out and looked so I harvested some seeds for next year). Thanks for your informative video's! Keep them coming, Bless you and your husband! Keep well sister.

    I’ve found that vaping or smoking the flower of this herb feels almost identical to THC, aside from not helping with nausea like THC does. I’d compare the potency of the flowers to some 2-3% THC cannabis. I’ll be trying it mixed with hemp soon, that may be the perfect combo for those who don’t live in a “legalized” state or country.

    I'm just now seeing this video. I have Prunella growing on my property. I do NOT mow it down. For mosquitoes, I have been working on an oil to protect against mosquitoes, and after testing it on myself, I can say that it works! It also works against flies and gnats. I'm hoping to be able to market it for exactly what it is, but I want to test it a little more, using different carrier oils, before I begin handing it out willy-nilly. However, I can say that it works, but I don't want this information public just yet, as I don't have any information, or testing, for allergies to the plant I'm using in the oils.

    Thank you so much for this, Correne. I have always loved plants and a handful of years ago, after visiting overseas relatives and seeing Kew's and Amsterdam's Medic Gardens, I began to incorporate more herbs into my garden plantings. With Covid's arrival, as so many shops were closed or simply because I felt moved to stay home anyway, I started enrolling in online herbalism courses.. In haste I ordered herbs galore, including some I possibly didn't need, but I'm now fine-tuning my Medic Garden. I'm becoming more discerning about which herbs will be beneficial, and why, and how, and I've already felt the benefits of my home-grown plant medicine. I'm totally besotted with herbs and was thrilled to discover that this very plant, Heal All (aka Self heal) , which I'd only recently been sorry to discover was NOT a native ground cover, IS a wonderful, wonderful little herb. She is my current herb of the month study subject, and your generous sharing adds to the monograph I am putting together for her! Thank you! 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

    Just discovered this amazing weed. Here in northeastern Ohio it's all over the place. I've found two varieties, one grows short with not much stacking of the flowers, while the other is about a foot or more with a lot of stacking of the flowers. I have been harvesting piles of it to freeze in glass jars so I can eat it every day until next summer.

    I didn't know this is what I had come up profusely in my flower garden. It was pretty and close to the ground, like a green mandala when I discovered it. And then it grew those taller stems and flowers. Husband convinced me to get rid of it - telling me how it was all through our lawn.
    Well, now I know what I just discarded...
    However, I am hoping I wasn't so thorough while taking it out of the ground. Hopefully there are a lot if roots that will come up again!
    I am retiring at the end of September and I intend to delve deeper into herbal remedies and more.
    Thank you for this informative video. I will seek out your book too.

      @@SpiraeaHerbs I have been around heal all since I was very very little but never knew what it was. I was pretty sure that it was heal all about two years ago but didn't want to experiment with it till I was one hundred percent sure. In your video you stated that it could grow tall and it has a squared stem these were the final identifiers that make me absolutely sure that what I am looking at is in fact heal all. I am really looking forward to making that syrup which I also did not know how to do as all I have done is dehydrate stuff and make alcohol based tinatures. So yes this is an absolutely wonderful video. Thank you.

    I make a bear grease infusion with several herbs and tree medicine that stops all bugs ticks even wasp will not sting. It's also pain relief and sun screen, last 12 hours. It's a compound medicine tailored for my personal needs.. I make flying ointments too. Nice Chanel, nice bolene I started using a Japanese hori hori knife, a atheme you can stick in the earth, or gather with it. Do what though will so long as it harms non,

    Wonderful and informative video, Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with all of us. I learned something new today, I always thought it was best to steep the herbs in the raw AVC and then add the honey after straining the herbs. Can you please explain your method and process a bit more? May God always Bless you with good health, safety, and prosperity in all you do. and again, thank you so much. ~SuzyJC-in-Central-Southeastern-Ohio_09.25.2023~

      Truthfully, I don't really have a rhyme or reason for what I do. Honey, just like ACV is, is an medium of extraction (meaning it helps to pull out medicines just like the vinegar does). So in my mind it makes a more well rounded medicine to use both at the same time. BUT if you ask a hundred herbalists how to do something you'll get 101 different answers. 😂

    THis summer I found mosquito dunks for those pesky critters- you put one in a bucket of water about every 100 feet and that attracts the mosquitos to lay eggs... but surprise! The dunk donuts contain bacteria that geed on the larva so they never mature! They have cut down the skeeters on my property significantly; however, they do not last 30 days as claimed. I found them on ebay but probably on amazon as well.

    Very interesting herb. Do you filter the herb after it’s processing time? And then store in an eye dropper bottle like tinctures? Or do you just scoop a teaspoon of herb and honey or however much you want and swallow like a dose of cough medicine?
    I am very interested in what you said about spider veins/varicose veins. Is this used topical for veins? And I’m sure you would make a poultice or something of that nature for veins? Maybe not? Am going to go checkout your book. Thanks.

      Thank you for leaving a comment! I tend to process things when I need them, letting them macerate with the herbs in it for as long as possible (this cuts down on oxidation). Depending on what it is, I will then store it in amber bottles and then transfer smaller amounts to dropper bottles yes!
      I'm not able to provide specific medical advice without Health Canada getting their knickers in a twist... but I can say that with varicose veins you want to treat them both internally (tincture/tea) and topically (with a poultice ideally).
      Thank you again!

    I have a natural comfrey salve that I make , that works for mosquitos amazingly well. It is basically just a routine balm ( recipes are online) i use for healing , skin irritations minor bruises and cuts. It is made with shea butter , olive oil or coconut oil and bees wax. I use essential oils which are as follows : frankincense, lavender, and a few drops of lemon essential oils. I found out what a good mosquito repellent this was after being stranded in florida after a hurricane ( Irma) and getting flooded into a hotel with no power at all for over a week. Everyone was getting so many mosquito bites... except me. I realized the salve was the only thing it could be. If used on a baby or person with a lot of skin allergies, I would do a small patch test on the skin before applying all over the body. It softens too! (I don't think you would need the comfrey if there's none available, to repel the mosquitos, but im not sure about that, I think its the oils) It works 100% for me !

    I made a self heal oxymel after watching another channel. Just found yours. Neither of you showed washing/ drying the plants. I didn’t , then another person/channel did wash. I shook mine and lightly snapped it on my table to shake out very tiny ants. I worked over a white towel so I could see them come out. Then I put whole flowers and pieces in. Made the oxymel , dated and stored. Where can I get that knife , and do you wash first?

    • @SpiraeaHerbs
      @SpiraeaHerbs  2 роки тому +5

      This is a great question. I do not wash my plant material first. I am very picky about where I harvest my plants from to ensure they are not exposed to any chemical, sprays, pesticides etc. that I do not want in my medicine.
      I do however shake them like you did to ensure I don't get any added "protein" in my medicine in the form of bugs.
      Everyone has personal opinions about washing. The reason I avoid it is because it waters down your medicine. If you wait for them to dry... which takes a very long time... then you have plant material that is no longer as fresh and vibrant.
      Hope that helps!

      Welcome to the channel! Pressing means that we strain out the herb material, squeezing as much tincture (if that's what I made in this video... I can't remember) out as possible. So once all the herb material is removed you are left with just the tincture. Does that help?

    You said the Self-Heal can stem bleeding....so I assume it thickens the platelets?

    • @SpiraeaHerbs
      @SpiraeaHerbs  Рік тому +2

      I am uncertain the exact mechanism by which herbs like Prunella and Achillea stem bleeding so I do not want to definitively say yes to that just in case I am incorrect. But thickening platelets is certainly one possibility. But I think it is more likely that as a antihemorrhagic, they are actually constricting the blood vessels which results in a slowing to stopping of blood flow from that particular area.

    The plants I've found are in a remote area ,,,, averaging about 3 ft. tall ,,,, with 2 to 4 buds on them.

      Prunella can get quite tall, but not that tall. I feel like you must have a different plant. What identification guides or plant apps have you used to try to narrow down your search?

    We call it self heal in the uk

    • @SpiraeaHerbs
      @SpiraeaHerbs  Рік тому +1

      Yes that is a common name around here as well. But I have also heard folks refer to other plants as Self-Heal. It's why I always ensure we have the botanical name to go along with it too!

    The flowers only bloom in late summer or early fall in the northeast, correct? I have two different types but I wish I knew exactly what type they are can't find much info on it at all.

      Hi there! Sorry I missed your comment. Prunella vulgaris flowers in the first two weeks of July typically (here in Ontario). So if your plant is flowering later than that, you might have a different variety all together. I know some folks use Google Lens with some success at identifying plants. Another option is getting a good field guide. Good luck!

      No worries I appreciate you taking the time to help me out. I did just download a plant identifier app so I am going to see if there is a section that will tell me about varieties. I have 2 obviously different types that I kept indoors over the winter and the one has some very pretty purple on the stems and a tiny bit near the stem underneath the leaves as well, it's interesting, thanks again..☺

    Omg! Great video ❤did you say this herb is great for growing breast tissue . I was wondering do I apply topically along with oil to see results . Plz help !! 😊

      @SpiraeaHerbs  Рік тому +1

      Hi Sarahlee. My apologies for the delay in response. I don't alway get notifications of comments. Prunella is supportive of breast tissue due to its properties as a lymphatic. In this case, yes I would make a breast oil and apply topically.

    I have a question ⁉️...l have a plant in my yard that looks like self heal but the leaves are more heart shaped than long. The flowers look to be the same as your video but the flowers on my plants are more reddish purple.... Are they the same plant. I live in East Tennessee.

      Hi there! It's very hard for me to say without seeing a photo, but I would suspect not? I am not familiar with plants native to your area and I believe your climate is quite different from mine (I'm in Ontario). Perhaps it is a cousin or related species?

      Absolutely. I know the medicinal greenhouse in my area, Richters Herbs, has seeds, but I bet a lot of other companies do too. Just ensure that you are getting Prunella vulgaris when you buy them!
