    I work with a guy who was openly transphobic until he realized that I'm trans and I'm just a normal dude. Man actually told me that I changed all his views because he didn't know trans people are just people. He'd only ever seen extreme examples and genuinely didn't know. But he saw how I interact with his dog (a super sweet German Shepard) and how his dog acted towards me and it made him question everything he'd been taught. Like... they genuinely don't think trans people are people. They think we're monsters hiding under beds.

Trans people are constantly getting attacked because we are supposedly causing problems in bathrooms, meanwhile this (supposedly cishet) woman is harassing strangers and filming in the bathroom. That guy at the end that she called out, after talking about, "obviously a guy went in that one" was clearly so uncomfortable by her. In fact, all the men were clearly made uncomfortable by her, which I find interesting. And also, the "obviously a guy went in that one" comment is just weird, because I've been in plenty of mens and womens restrooms, and on average, in my experience, the men's restroom is way cleaner and nicer than the women's, so like, what?! If it's a mess, I'd personally immediately assume a woman was the last to use it, if anyone.

    Three things really bothered me about the all-gender restroom/washroom/toilet video.
    (1.) Filming anyone in a washroom is creepy!
    (2.) Accosting the man who walked in and shouting "a man in a non-gender restroom!" and practically chasing him to film his use of the toilet! The man was simply minding his own (private) business!
    (3.)It was gross that the young man was leaving the restroom without washing his hands (though, to be fair, he may have been so surprised and anxious about being filmed in such a private space that he simply wanted to get the hell out of the situation as quickly as possible!).

    As a CIS - straight - female, I honestly wouldn't recognize a trans woman in the bathroom with me. I would see them as a woman. I see humans in the women's bathroom that could be either male, female, or non-binary as they are gender neutral, and I don't even try to figure out what their gender is. I mean, I sure as hell am not going to be looking at their genital areas. These people are some of the scariest, perverted people I have ever seen. WTF? Maybe the women's bathrooms and the men's bathrooms should ban Transphobes completely and make them hold it till they get home. I have had to go into the women's bathroom with my friend who is a trans woman because she unfortunately very much looks like she went through male puberty and everyone misgenders her based on her height, her wide shoulders and her very deep voice. And yet she is afraid to use a public toilet without a friend to "vouch" for her. I would love it if every bathroom was all gender and eventually people would just be used to it and no one would think it was a big deal.

I did not think “oMg ThErE aRe MeN hErE tHeYrE gOnNa CrEeP oN tHe WoMeN” I just thought “oh this should be more normalized, everyone’s minding their own business, it’s exactly like a normal bathroom but more comfortable for people.” (I am cis btw, you don’t have to be trans to be an ally and it takes more effort to be a bigot)
    edit: its been 4 months and im no longer cis (agender :P)

    Omg this just reminded me of a story!
    For some unknown reasons my university changed the labels on the bathrooms during the summer. I was there during the transition back. So one day I'm in the shower and I hear a masculine voice come in. I can't remember if they were maybe on the phone or taking to someone outside or something but they sounded male. I totally freaked out and started screaming about a man in the women's room. Oh wait. Actually, no. I quietly continued my shower and made sure not to exit the curtains until I heard them leave. I didn't call attention to our differences, it might have been a safety issue or just embarrassing for one of us. After, I simply went to the resident assistant and asked them to have a floor meeting to decide which bathroom would be which for the school year. It's literally that easy to not be a jerk.

    I've always found the idea of laundry being a "feminine task" to be wild. Mostly because my parents split up the household chores a lot differently when I was growing up. My mom can cook. My dad's bad at it. So mom does the cooking. Dad's really neat and organized so he does the dishes and the laundry. Mom works from home so she pays the bills, but Dad likes spreadsheets so he writes the budget. Maybe I've grown accustomed to Women being generally the face of progressive values, what with all media I consume, but seeing women try to enforce "masculinity" is something that disturbs me profoundly.

      Back when I was living as a man, women I dated would tell me not to wear bright colors, or that it was "gay" to listen to Madonna or Katy Perry.
      It turns out I actually am gay, because I'm a lesbian, and now I'm wearing gorgeous frilly pink dresses and listening to whatever I want.

    2:44 & 21:39 the thing about "feminine responsibilities" that I always wonder is how do men without such skills survive if they're single? Do they eat out every day because cooking is "feminine?" Do they live in filth because cleaning and laundry is "feminine?" These aren't gendered tasks, they're basic life skills that all adults should have.

    It’s so odd to me that people feel so strange about all-gender bathrooms. Especially the “this has sealed doors, that’s good in an all gender bathroom.” I find that odd, sealed doors are good anywhere! You shouldn’t have to deal with anyone watching you go to the toilet, it doesn’t matter if they’re whatever gender, it’s your body! I’ve yet to wrap my head around all of the reasoning for the attitude towards it, it makes very little sense.

    Jamie, you're completely right about the bathroom stalls in the US. They have huge gaps in the door hinges and at the bottoms of the stalls so you can see people's feet. For some people, it's uncomfortable to be in the bathroom with anybody because the door gaps are awful.

  • @cryochick9044
    @cryochick9044 8 місяців тому +10

    Btw yes in America bathroom stalls have a like 1 and a half foot gap at the bottom and go about 6 feet (180 cm) for walls. It is disturbing how someone can stand up and you can make eye contact with them. This is WORSE in schools where they tend to be even shorter.
    Ive been in a school where It went up to the bottom of my boobs.
    You may say "but they're for kids who are shorter"
    Then where are the adult bathrooms? Ohh yea locked and reserved for staff use.

    All the people who have never been in an all-gender bathroom - where the heck are they coming from?? I thought maybe it's a USA thing and you don't have many of those or something. But no, I was recently talking to a woman from Moscow (I live in Siberia myself), and she was so disgusted when she confirmed that of course she has never been in an all-gender bathroom! She hasn't even seen a sign for one! And I was like... how... both where I live AND in Moscow AND other Russian cities there are lots of all-gender bathrooms, esp in restaurants...

    • @lavenderoh
      @lavenderoh 8 місяців тому +1

      In the USA people pretend these are duper unusual. However in most smaller businesses or small offices (for example less than 15 people to share a bathroom) there is typically only 1 gender neutral bathroom. Even in shopping malls as far back as I can remember (I'm 36 and spent the majority of my tweens and teens in malls) there's male, female, and family bathrooms. The family bathrooms were gender neutral so any parents could take any kids they needed all to one place, and instead of multiple stalls it was just one larger room (with a lock of course) with 2 toilets,1 for adults and 1 for kids, and 2 sinks, 1 for adults and 1 for kids, and a changing table. Anyone could use them if they wanted. A lot of wheelchair users also prefer them because it's more spacious than the stalls in the other bathrooms, plus they can more easily get a helper in there if needed. Those were in every restroom area of every mall in the 90s-2000s that I went to. The only places that have strictly gendered bathrooms are typically very large offices, schools, etc. And even then there are many instances where people use different ones based on convenience, ESPECIALLY women will go to the men's if there's no line for the men's but there is for the women's. In honesty having 2 bathrooms would seem to be more practical for larger places and I suppose they just default to gendering them. I think I would be a bit surprised to see a super public gender neutral bathroom like the one in the video, but not shocked enough to make a whole video 😂 I might comment that wow that's different and then never think of it again lol

    Love you Jammidodger and Shaaba!!
    That poor 11-year-old is being *groomed* to hate people who don't affect his life at all. He's just doing what grownups tell him. I want to see him at 21 in the hope that he's escaped their *indoctrination.* I was forced into a super right-wing evangelical hypochristian church 8 years, from 8-16. And as cis bi-romantic ace, boy did that church suck. They kind of left me alone after a while because unlike the other kids who were smoking and drinking, then acting pious on Sunday, I didn't get baptized in my teens because I didn't want to lie. That was a weird time.
    Anyway, to update you on my travels into "who I am" near the end of my middle-age heading to old person territory, I'm still bi-romantic Ace but I've been flirting pretty heavily with two different lesbians who both work at grocery stores. They're just so pure and honest. And very visually appealing. I haven't got the second woman's name yet, even though she's a manager. I didn't think to read her name tag. But Nicole introduced herself to me last time I was at the store where she works. So now we know each other's names. And we know we both like cats, never got married, and never had kids. I have SUCH a crush on her, but today I met an equally esthetically pleasing, friendly and outgoing woman. She has a natural rizz about her. They're probably both in relationships, but I can still look and do some minor flirtage.
    Anyway, if I posted this on other social media my dad or other assorted relatives might see. I know they wouldn't say anything, but at the same time ... maybe later. I'm such a coward, still. But I had to tell someone, so I'm telling UA-cam. I'm almost freaking FIFTY-SIX and it took my mom dying this summer for me to realize there's no time like the present to be who you are.
    I already told my stepdad back in 2017, and later I explained it to my mom and she was very understanding. I mean, she couldn't fathom not wanting to have sex, but she tried to understand. They were both basically like, "Oh, okay. Do you want to stay for dinner?"
    So I'm gonna talk with the lady I met today next time I see her and ask her pronouns. Because I'm just guessing, and it's a not-so-subtle hint that I am "of the queers." My roomie is a lesbian and calls herself "of the gays," so that's where I got it. Thanks, random anyone who read this far. Jammidodger's comments section has become my spill zone. I'm weird af sometimes, yet boring. Shit, it's 1AM I have to get to bed.
    Peace!
