Singers Whose Voices STILL Sound Great!

  • In this video I talk about singers who have been around for decades but whose voices still sound great. A few notes here: I only included singers who were still alive at the time of this video, Dave Gahan's voice does not sound good anymore, because of copyright reasons I had to cut some clips super short, and I have never heard the music of Glenn Hughes.

Thanks for adding Sting to the list. When you did the video on Singers whose Voice Went to Crap, I mentioned I had recently seen Sting interviewed where he played guitar and sang and his voice was great. In the clip you showed above, he didn’t sound as good. But, the guy has maintained himself really well all these years. He was a music teacher before he joined The Police so he probably knows how to take care of his vocals. Love your videos.

Gilmour is a really good call, I saw him at the royal Albert hall in 2016 and not only was it one of the best shows I’ve ever seen on a audio visual level, his vocals and guitar playing were just as good as ‘in the day’ as they say. Remarkable really, I mean the show ended with a faithfully recreated foaming run like hell with Dave ripping his vocal cords out, extraordinary. Most of the guys in your list have the same thing in common, clean living (by rock star standards). I’d add morrissey to the list, he sounds great as he’s ever done. Also, whether or not you like his voice, Robert smiths voice is impeccably preserved.

I've always like the sheer 80'sness of Starship and Go West. I hate We Built This City but their other songs (Sara, Before I Go, Wild Again, Hearts of The World, We Dream In Color, Its Not Enough) have a very atmospheric feel. Peter Wolf produced all of that.

Saw R.E.M. for the first time in '99. I'd mortgage the house for a reunion tour. But, being men of their word, they will not reunite for a nostalgia cash grab.

Someone who deserved to be there also is Trent Reznor, his voice just kept getting better and better as years came by
Must say even Dave Grohl deserved a place in this list since his voice also sounds fuckin great even years after

Originally Trent was gonna be on this list but honestly when listening to his most recent live stuff it sounded good.. but not as good as when he was at his peak, a lot of the raw aggression just isn't there and it didn't sound as compelling

I don't know if this is a hot take or not, but Reznor never had a good voice. And this is coming from a big NIN fan. Just like what he said in the video about Roger Waters. It's an interesting and well-utilized voice, yeah, but not every singing voice is particularly harmonious or pleasant to listen to, and Reznor has always had a very whiny-sounding voice.

@@snowblind9551 Yeah, NIN is my favorite band but I've often compared Trent's voice to a squealing pig. It's not a 'good' voice, but it's interesting and unique and works well with the NIN style.

naww dude.. i looked up some of their audio-only live performances from the 70's.. he's got way more vocal control now.. his voice may not be AS powerful but his control is way better.. that could also be due to the fact that pink floyd weren't as big in the 70's as they would become so the sound systems in these venues weren't as good

@@DancingwithGhosts I'm a computer graphics artist myself, starting around 2000, i know how the computer artists themselves may look at their creation so much they start believing crap is actually fine. But the approving people look at it with a fresh mind and immediately see the shit parts. Unless Gabriel is a complete computer nerd, he must have known pretty early on it looks horrible, and from then on actually said let's embrace the nonsense. Like the inside-out head effect, NOBODY would ever consider that anything but silly, in any age. It is a perfect example of "lets see what this modifier do---ohh what in the actual fuck sorry", and the director saying "thats exactly the twisted crap we are after, turn in up to 11!"
