Sad day we lost a great American . Kinky Friedman you were a treasure.
The funniest Kinky song is "They don't make Jews like Jesus Anymore." And his detective novels are really fun. And his interviews are great. I was living in Texas when he ran for governor and voted for him. He was going to appoint Willy Nelson as his 'Drug Czar.' Great fun with Kinky.
'Tea and Sympathy' for the passing of a tree. We lost our 50 year old plus tree a year ago. It was as upsetting as losing any other living companion.
I have enjoyed Kinky too for a long time.
Just wanted to say, you sir are a kind hearted gentleman and one hell of a bassist. The music will pull us through.✌❤
Kinky❣️😁
Sorry about your tree. They do leave gaping holes. 💟 I've been missing a couple of large trees along my path since just before the 4th of July. I still don't know why they were taken down.
A favorite song is “Sold American”. BTW - knew Kinky (Richard) as a camp counselor at his parents’ summer camp in Bandera, TX.
Awwwww. Sweet
His cover of Ray Stevens’ “Ahab, the Arab” is just insane.
I met Kinky Friedman when he was running for governor of Texas. His campaign slogan was "How hard can it be?" Funny guy.
He could've successfully run the gov
with one hand behind his back.
A$$hole From El Paso was a massive hit........ in El Paso. Love Kinky's books too.
There was a time when he had declared that he was a candidate for President of the USA. A reporter asked Kinky for his position on gay marriage. Kinky replied " I support gay marriage unreservedly. After all, gay people have the same right to be as miserable as straight people do in their marriages" !!!
One of Kinky's funniest lines ever!
one of my close buds has been friends with Kinky for decades. what a cool guy. glad Facebook is down--not a fan. cheers Lee.
Sold American, is an amazing album. especially for a debut. probably a perfect record
Thanks for the tunes ! Kinky is one of hero’s !
I loved this one.❤️
Sorry about your tree Leland.
I have a favourite tree.
First time I heard of Kinky.....love the name, music and lyrics pretty good too, thank you for this today, Leland. Toes still atappin'❣️
RIP tree. It's sad when we lose a contributor to fresh air.
Be safe everyone 🤗 and enjoy the rest of this marvelous Monday👍😉
I enjoyed that! Once again you open a new door for us!
The first tune has a little John Prine vibe to it. Sneaky Pete sounding great as ever!
That's what I heard too.
I've never heard Kinky's work before, but I like his sense of humor.
....check it out. Funny funny guy. He TCB, but didn't have a mean bone in his body
I’ve heard of Kinky Friedman for ever, but I think this is the first I’ve ever *heard* Kinky Friedman. Thanks for the experience!
Stay safe and stay well!
I watched the Ms. Judith show yesterday. Man, she writes GREAT songs! Frankie sounded just awesome too. I’m a fan of you guys’ gig now. Big time.
Thanks for the Kink! So sad for the loss of your tree. Stay well!😺
Kinky for Governor...how hard could it be?
he said, "i'm not a politician...I haven't even been indicted yet.."
I voted for him when he ran for Gov of TX. It was a bummer when he didn't win. I have never seen him without a cigar!
Didn't think I would laugh today but then didnt expect to hear Kinky. Thanks Leland
Never heard of him! But, find him to be a very interesting fella!
Leland you have had a most amazing life❣
Sry... you missed out. But not too late to catch up. Books. Recordings. Interview.
Funny that it took the Death of the Kinkster for me to spot this video that I'd missed. R.I.P., Kinky Friedman.
Haven't heard Kinky in a long time, thanks.
Was pleased to hear one of the Immediate Family songs on Sirius XM today, Deep Tracks, almost said out loud "hey that's my pal Lee on the radio". Cool.
well now... I never knew he sang. I only knew of him when he ran here in Texas for Justice Of The Peace in 86' then ran for Governor in 2006. I like the songs I heard. Thank you Leland!
Kinky is great! I would have voted for him, if I could (Canadian in Texas). Interesting seeing the Yamaha in the background. Very cool! Thank you as always, Lee! A wonderful video.
Hi Lee! This was delightful. Thanks.
I first heard Kinky on late-night radio, either Larry King or his successor, Jim Bohannon. He was on for about two hours. Great entertainment. Funny guy.
It warms the cockles of my heart to know that you played on this. Have been a huge fan since I was a kid. The “Kankster” is close friends with one of my mom’s oldest friends. Used to go see him perform a lot. Loved this album, Sold American, and the rest. Greenwich Killing Time and his other detective novels are great, as well.
If you want to keep a reminder of your oak tree get the lumber guys to cut you a piece big enough to do something with. Oak would not make a good bass body, but maybe a "wall hanger" or as an end table top, or fireplace mantle would be nice to have. You can get the skill set from a luthier on going from stump to keep sake. It's not costly, but it does take a long time (if you don't have a kiln).
That FFS episode was really fun to watch !!! Thank You for the Kinky ! Thank You as always !!!
One of thos3 nights where I cant sleep!
Thanks for Sharing that. Really cool sound
You've gotta love a song (no really, that's the law) that rhymes "letter that I wrote her" with "Rapid City, North Dakoter" - and music that's cool and impresses partly by deliberately looking like it's not trying too hard to impress. This summer I also had to cut down a big maple, one my dad and I planted when I was little. It had been losing ground for a few seasons and was set to fall on the house - always a shame, like losing an old friend..
Oops... Rapid City, SOUTH Dakota. Just a Canadian demonstrating how not to impress.
Awesome guy, tells awesome stories.
Wow, hadn't heard anything of Kinky for yonks, great way to start my day. 👍😁😎
@@hanspeterlillese2225 See if you can find someone like the guy I dealt with at totally wired. when I got the very first pwr cable several yrs back, I quizzed him intensely and he just said if you don't like it, send it back for full refund, I thought can't go wrong here. of course I never did send it back and have upgraded twice since then. Gave the last one I replaced to a mad music nut friend of mine, the first thing he said to me was, What a revlation! . I can honestly say that if you get to try some of the KLEI stuff you WON'T be disappointed. if it's a very familiar piece of music you play that you know well, you will hear a difference straight up.
I think the theory goes something like this.
Can you hear a difference.? yes/no
If no, do not pass go. 😁
If yes, do you like what you hear.? yes/no
if yes then buy it, if not, end of questions.
Cheers 😎
Regarding „the tour in Germany“ with Judith Owen: I saw you posted a lot of pictures from the city of Bremen. You seemed to like this city (… writing these lines from about 50 kilometers south of Bremen)
Mr Friedman. I have read a whole bunch of his books. New York Irregulars and dogs, Pyramus and Thisbee.
Ah, happy days. Shame about the tree.
Has anyone ever told you that you bear a striking resemblance to Terry-Thomas? I've read some of his books too.
@@hanspeterlillese2225 Something fishy in the state of Denmark
@@hanspeterlillese2225 I smell of exhaust fumes. My new reality in the UK is that you queue for 90 minutes to get to a petrol station that's about 500 metres from your house.
Have a Bass made from that tree
I was thinking furniture ,but that's an even better idea.
Oak is not so good for bass guitars.
Hey Lee, I was reminded of a blast from the past " let me make love to you" flo and Eddie. You and Kootch played on that gem. We won't get into the rest of that album, but that was a stand out tune.
In the 1990s I read an interview with Kinky and the interviewer asked Kinky about Garth Brooks. He laughed and called Brooks the "Anti-Hank." 😄🤠
Kinky had a roommate in college named "Chinga"(can't find his real name) Chavez. He made an album called "Country Porn" that was sold in the back of men's magazines and featured a drawing of a cowboy with an electric guitar over his shoulder - made from a toilet seat. And the music was actually pretty good, in the eclectic Country-Rock way. Of course, the music was pretty racy when not actually profane or "taste-challenged." I've not looked for it as I remember enough of it and wouldn't like for a copy of it around for people to find. If you DO find a copy, enjoy it with your friends who would like the first 2 songs in this video.
As always, Lee, Thanks for sharing your musical memories with us. And consider having a tree-planting party to make you feel better about losing your old wooden friend - kinda like a wake. Good Fortune attend you.
Giv'em hell Kinky, thanks for always keeping it weird , , , 😉
lol. Kinky leaves us with a permanent tickle inside
Morning Leland
✨👋🏻✨
Sad bout the tree, Lee, Oak? i hope you have plans to use the wood.. Make some lovely stuff..
I can't say I heard of Kinky..But that's one of the beauty's of our channel..
Another famous Kinky song: "Get Your Biscuits in the Oven and Your Buns in the Bed".
Good afternoon 😊 so good to catch your post . Nope on FB🥴🙃
My grandloves move Wednesday to Swansea, Illinois. I'm Broken-hearted 💔😢 Been sharing quality time with them.
Interesting share Kinky. Have a great day everyone 👩💜😎
Kinky at one time used to be a semi-regular guest on the Imus in the Morning radio show.
Life and Times Kinky Friedman an Arroyo Seco tree blight..sorry too hear..peace...
Another artist that I’m unfamiliar with but he made me laugh 😂. Great way to start my day. 🙏
Thank You Lee 👍🏻 Nice song 👌🏻
Hey lee, the video with Judith and you was marvelous and funny. At first we couldn’t hear you but that was quickly remedied. I recommend everyone who visits this channel to go and watch it. You see them making fun of each other. 😬 you gets info about one tour they did together.
AND last but not least. She sings very well as is her piano playing. That last song really moved me.😢 Frankenstein sounded very good also.
Greetings all of you.
Kinky also wrote a dozen mystery novels starring himself and his friends that are well worth reading.
I read Elvis, Jesus and Coca-Cola and also God Bless John Wayne. Both rattling good reads.
@@leekosmin8788 did kinky write that?
@@lastnamefirst4035 I think so
@@lastnamefirst4035 He wrote both the books that I mentioned
Hi Lee, I'm also waiting on the Moderna booster shot. Give a shout out when you hear something please.
My favourite Kinky song is "They Ain't Making Jews Like Jesus Anymore".
The kinkstah!!!
Got your New glasses!
Scary how time is flying!
45 years since the Lone Star Cafe
Thanks Lee
The ants ate a very old pepper tree of ours a few years ago. May want to check the soil, there were millions of them.
Also interesting among others: the oak tree that died away …
Never heard the name Kinky Friedman …
That second song sounds like a perfect one for The Soggy Bottom Boys 😄
Evening Leland and everybody.
Evening Lee and all
Greetings from Epping, UK
Cheers Barry 🎸
Evening Ann
Hey Ann!!! 👋
linda coffey Hiya Linda.
How are you today?
Just arranged to meet up with a friend that I haven't seen for many months.
She feeds me wonderful food, and many cakes.
A hopeful sign of near normalcy.
Barry Waples Hiya Barry.
Damp again in Tyneside.
Love Kinky, was hoping you’d feature him since you mentioned you played with him, way back on an early video. The show with Judith was so good. Great songs, and alot of genuine laughs..” why don’t you do another of your f***ing songs”🤣😂 Thanks as always for your efforts. Stay safe 🖕 ps. Sorry about the tree
I read all The Kinkstah’s crime books before I ever heard him play with the band. The little puppet head would be smiling at this. “Start taking...”
See you tomorra
Happy Hanukkah 🕎
UA-cam must not be down or I wouldn't be here.
Stinky cigars
I always appreciated
That he unfriended
Don Imus after Imus said disparaging comments about Nappy Headed ladies basketball.
Don did not pay royalties in anyway
To the blues artists music he used all the time on his radio show.
Imus … such an asshole! 🖕🏼
@@lelandsklar6363 that's right! No Imus!
@@hanspeterlillese2225 wasn't a song. Those were words Don Imus used on his show a few years ago. Kinky didn't like it and no longer a friend of Imus
@@hanspeterlillese2225 (lyric from a self produced Stevie Wonder record) .
But Imus had made a very racist comment about ladies basketball players.
FYI
All of social media is down globally for about two hours already it was working earlier Facebook Instagram Twitter and messenger all went down simultaneously

Oak wilt is a terrible thing. It can kill a white oak in a matter of weeks.
😎
I have the same problem with FB!! So it's not my internet....
I had a magnificent hundred year old copper beech that was killed by an ignorant constructio crew.
FB and Instagram and WhatsApp all down across the globe - DNS server failure.
yes, success taking down those platforms of poison. not a fan of social media. cheers Rik. see you at the clubhouse.
Yup, glad to see "social media" crash and burn.
I get a chuckle thinking of all the millennials curled up in the fetal position on the floor over in the corner, sucking their thumb in fear of having to come up out of the basement and go outside.
I wonder if they'll know what that big bright yellow thing is up in the sky ?
2nd song reminds me of Benny Hill.
🎶👍👋
Facebook Cancer! All over the world.
I'm looking for a music manager,,,do u know anyone
FB and UA-cam are down.
But wait, you just posted that comment on UA-cam.
Yeah, unfortunately “self titled” is the only one that’s out of print and buried in the vaults of the Concord Music Group. We’re working on re-acquiring the rights and getting it back into the digital world proper. Thank you for this Lee. Best to you! Sharing with the boss. -mgmt
So glad Lee gets attention from you guys, how exciting!
Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp have all been down for hours worldwide.
Aww
11:21 here and FB still isn't happening. Looks like their bad week isn't over yet?
I'm proud to be an a##hole from El Paso.
I guess everything thing has it's season.
Hopefully the demise of your beautiful tree will give benefit to your other tree's.
Can you Mill the tree and have a nice piece of furniture made from it?
They aint makin jews like jesus anymore...yee haw
Jeez just name the guys who aren't in your band! Thats a yuge band!
You must stop taking yourself so seriously! But seriously, sorry about the oak tree. Do you know anybody who works with wood? It might have a lot of artistic potential for somebody....
