I’m a true a Brooklynite, born and raised. I was actually born in Brooklyn Jewish Hospital. However, as a Black woman I’ve lived along side the Hasidic community my entire life and know all most nothing about their culture or religion. Not because I choose to be ignorant more so, because they tend to keep to themselves. THANK YOU, for these videos they’ve been so informational. I have a new view of the community and so interested in learning more. Special thank you to Shiolme for taking you and your camera on this intimate walk through the community. I can’t wait to see part 3.

But what about his little sister? Shying away behind the couch? Maybe I would have done the same at her age, however: what about other girls?
      Where are the women speaking?
Up to now there are just again the men talking - like in almost all religions, christians included. But the men are not just talking
      - they are ruling and have the last word to say.
My snappy mind thinks: No wonder they are enjoying themselves!
Of course there could be other reasons like women and girls don't like to open up to the male journalist?
I am glad and thankful to get some open minded insights to the orthodox Jewish community and I am willing to get others, I truely am. I liked the first episode very much, I could sense the famous Jewish humour in the beginning of ep. 2! However after to episodes I am asking to hear a girl and a woman talking!
Other than this I also believe in acceptance and living different ways of life in peace.

In this video, I journey deeper into the Hasidic Jewish world and thought. What much of the West is sometimes missing the Hasidic Jews have mastered: community, connectivity, and the ability to go deeper into the spiritual world while avoiding many modern distractions.
I ask you to go into this video with an open mind. I like many of you have no interest in getting this focused on religion but there are a lot of nuggets of wisdom to pick up from those that do here in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I absolutely loved this afternoon and I hope you see the love in it too :) The ways that the different cultures interact is something special and what I love so much about NYC. That was fun and enriching. Oh, and Chaim (the young boy) has more wisdom than Gandolf!

@@PeterSantenello Hi, I'm Joe and I'm also an Orthodox Jew. However, I'm not a Hassidic Jew. I'm what's called modern Orthodox. On one hand my community strictly observes Jewish law. On the other hand everyone seeks a advanced secular college degree and 90% of us have a bachelor's degree. On one hand, we will work in the best legal firms and hospitals but on the other hand we will duck out to pray three times a day without exception. On one hand we will associate with non-jews on a daily basis yet we will never eat the food because it isn't kosher. On one hand we tend to dress in more modern clothing then the Hassidim yet we also keep the Sabbath extremely carefully and never use electricity or drive on the Sabbath. That being said there are many similarities to the Hassidim in the Modern Orthodox community as well. Children respect their parents period, I'd never dream to sit in my mother of father's chair. Even when I'm in my 60's and they are in their 80's I'd never dream of it. The poor are taken care of. Orthodox Jews of all kinds do not believe in private charity. We believe in god mandated justice, God gave you sustenance and can take it away at a moment's notice. The only reason we may have a lot of money is to do God's will on earth. Therefore, giving to others is not a matter of generosity for Orthodox Jews. It is another way of acknowledging that god controls the world. The sick in the hospitals always have visitors. It is hard to uphold such a lifestyle while being involved in general society. However, we work on it every day. While the Hassidim do tend to be more insular, much of what you find there can be found in any Orthodox Jewish community. I pray with the same liturgy as them and would feel comfortable in their synagogues. We also have at least 3 kids but oftentimes 5 or 6. In addition to Hassidic Jews and Modern Orthodox Jews, there are also non-hassidic yet still insular Jews.

Chaim is so wise! I love the way he speaks about experiencing the world. Not many children have that outlook on everything we’ve been gifted by our creator (or whatever you believe in). I understand that he most likely only has this understanding of life because its based on religion, but i believe every child should be taught to be deeply grateful for the sun, the rain, the wind, the mud and soil we use to grow our food that keeps us alive. We wouldn’t exist if we were without the power of nature. You dont have to be religious to enjoy and experience with all of your senses 🙏🏽 With the mind Chaim has, i believe he’ll go very far in this world - spiritually also ❤️
