      I lived on Eastern Pkwy for 11 years, about 3 blocks away from this major synagogue. I’m also black. I was truly fascinated by the Hasidic community and wanted to know more about their culture. However, they’re extremely insular and very rarely interact with others. They’re def not approachable lol (my experience obviously but not saying they’re all like that... my cousin’s Hasidic neighbors were super cool). ! Anyway, at least they open up to this guy, interesting to see.

Humanity is the biggest lesson of the divine scriptures whether it is Islam, Judaism, Christianity etc. Your religion is your choice and you're free to choose whatever deems appropriate to you, but for me it is obligatory to respect you and love you to seek Almighty blessings. Born and raised on the Westside. I worked on Broadway in high school part time and after I started college, until I flunked out and got drafted! I made many friends working on Broadway, when I was drafted these friends gave me a going away party. The outpouring of concern and love was overwhelming, it was very moving and emotional for a 20 year old draftee during Vietnam. During my time in he Army this group of people sent me care packages, which were very welcome. Of course it was packed with NYC stuff, Yahoo,Motza,Lindser Tarts and tons of other goodies.
      The part that I like to share, most of these people who sent me care packages and goodies were Jewish! When people asked me about my packages, I told them the packages were from my Jewish Family in show business!

      Know that your skepticism of Western culture is greatly influenced by the perspective you see in Western media or maybe from your education, I dont know what you are taught. The majority of people, if not interested, dont feel any kind of resentment towards your way of life. It seems to me that often when someone is interested and asks questions or makes observations, jews generally are quick to take a more defensive approach. I dont know if this is a part of jewish culture, but that is the only lets say incomprehensible thing about jews from a non-religious Western person’s point of view.

If I’m in trouble, I can literally approach any Religious Jew around me to ask for help, and they will stop what they are doing and help me, as I would for them. Now I'm not hassidic, so I can only speak for the orthodox world. There, women aren't forced to have any large # of kids. The biblical command is only to have 1 boy and 1 girl, so the rules are ore strict until that point is reached. But every child after that is still a huge mitzva, so having big families is definitely encouraged. In many cases, the woman wants to have a big family as well (sometimes even more so than the husband). There are also exceptions made for women who can't handle at the time for physical/emotional reasons.

    Just to clarify what the rabbi said about "impurity". This is not something demeaning to mean that a woman is physically unclean from her period. It is a spiritual impurity, that stems from the loss of potential life symbolized by a woman's period. When a Jewish couple is intimate, it is in a holy union that is full of life and potential of life. When she dips in the water, it is not to clean off physical dirt, it is to be exposed to the source of life, water, and to become ritually pure through the waters.
    The reason she first bathes before dipping in the mikvah is to remove any intervening substances that might be between herself and the water of the ritual bath that are connected to a natural water source.
    This is an example of one of our mitzvot that we don't fully understand the reason for and still we do. Even though we do not understand it, couples find that this custom brings deep richness, beauty, and passion that was not in their marriage beforehand. Give it a try and see for yourself 😉

    Thank you for making these videos. A couple of clarifications: what the guy at the end was saying about DNA testing and "matches," that's not what he meant. They're testing for carriers of certain genetic diseases that developed among some European Jewish groups because they lived in segregated communities for centuries. They want to make sure that both members of a couple aren't carrying mutations that might result in children who have these illnesses (for example, one is called Tay-Sachs disease).
    Another point: when the guy was describing the rules around married couples, he talked about women being impure if they're menstruating. The word "impure" means *ritually* impure, not impure like they're dirty. Also, men are also considered ritually impure if they have a seminal emission. They also have to do certain rituals to remove ritual impurity (according to their belief).
    I don't know why he said that women who go to the monthly mikveh (it's not a "spa," but some mikvehs are very nicely appointed) spend an hour soaking before they do the ritual bath. Untrue. A woman takes a shower, washes very well to remove any possible barrier between herself and the water in the ritual bath. Then she goes to the small ritual pool, just one at a time with a female attendant, and does the ritual (people get a towel to wrap themselves in). It's all very respectful and private. I tried it years ago, and it's like women's ritual magic, it's actually very special.

    • @SonOfWolff
      @SonOfWolff 3 роки тому +5

      And there is another series about the community in Manchester that is worth a watch if you haven't seen it. It will show you the diversity of the Orthodox Jewish community, which is something that I don't think he has realized exists yet. Chassidim are easy to pick out of a crowd. Other Orthodox Jews blend in more. Check out the show (sorry I can't think of the name--I will look for it if you are interested tho. Just let me know!)

    As a Belgian Egyptian Christian Vegan Hippie Athlete I think it's very eye opening to see how this community lives. Keep on going with the good work!

    It makes me sad that such a beautiful people have had to face so much torment and cruelty from the wider population for centuries. What a wonderful way to live - just kind, considerate and loving. The entire world could learn a lot from this way of life ♥️

    As an Armenian I admire the collectivist mentality Jews have. I wish we had more of that.

      The globalists prohibit all competing groups from having in-group preference by calling racism. They only allow it for themselves.

      It's really ingrained in our culture. It's because of the idea that am Yisrael (the Jewish people) are one. And that we must help each other.
