Peter, i don't think you fully understand in what degree they adopted you. Holding a Torah is a great honor for every Jew. The fact that they let YOU hold it, means that these people have so much love and respect for you. I'm guessing on the many many smiles that this isn't old footage and you went back to the community. Thank you so much for shining a bright light on the positive side of Orthodox Jews/ Chassidim. May your life be filled with health, meaning, succes, creativity untill 120. You truly made me and many other Jews feel relieved that there is honest and positive journalism out there. Keep on making great stuff!

@@inspiredby621 Dear, Insinuating that all people who don’t see Jesus as the Messiah are sinners, is a sin in itself. Don’t judge. What people don’t understand is that Judaism isn’t just a religion.. it’s history of the Judean tribe with their story, culture, traditions and practices. Please be respectful of that considering christianity comes from Judaism and Jesus was a practicing Jew.

@@vitalchance1032 Are you actually looking for an explanation or is this just an attempt to somehow drudge up some old age anti semetism?
      I'll humor you I guess...
The first passage refers to the old time rituals of drinking blood, which was practiced in large numbers by worshipers of idols, often those worshiping the devil, or participating in satanic rituals. Jews as such are forbidden from participating in those kinds of rituals, ie. drinking blood.
The brit mila is not drinking blood. In fact, the mohel doesn't ingest the blood, he spits it out. Your attempt to sort of pull similarities and allude to phedophilia is not lost on me. But the ritual is one of our tradition, one which in some forms has been adopted by a massive percentage of the world population in one form or another. While gentiles, muslims, and other's who participate in circumcision may have changed the practices the reality is they essentially just ripped from our tradition. The rules and laws of brit mila are complex, and while you may not understand it, know that every single mohel is well respected, well learned, and is generally considered both medically trained as well as someone with a stable, healthy, background. The brit is usually performed publicly, with the child's parents at his side, and in full view of 10+ adults. Again, destroying your entire premise that brit mila in any way is a form of "’So, the Rabbi.., after a new born is brought into this world, the first thing that he thinks to do is to is cut the foreskin off the tip of a babies penis and suck the blood.."
Edit: after reading some of your other asinine comments, I want to add...
Its literally vile and morally corrupt people like you who wiped out my entire family in gas chambers. The same cut. You must be super proud.

the culture is so beautiful. Many, many civilizations have been so powerful throughout time but all of them seem to have "fallen" or gotten destroyed yet this group of people, who have been targeted in ways unimaginable, from a small area on the map, have stood up decade after decade, millennia after millennia, and today still are stronger than ever. They are leaders in all aspects of the world as well. They do all this with a smile and strength not often seen. It seems the Torah, the Jewish culture and family unity gives them all a clear blueprint to have a happy and successful life without constant need to be vengeful and angry, which they certainly have the right to feel. Peter in January: "Well, this has been a good series. I guess I'm done with the Orthodox Jewish community."
Peter in July: ". . .son of a gun, they pulled me back in again."
In all seriousness, as someone who isn't a Hasidic Jew but who is an Orthodox Jew, thank you *so* much for the way you've filmed this series. This is what honest documentary filmmaking should be. You clearly don't fully understand or even agree with everything you see, but that's ok! The important thing is that you've clearly approached this series with an open mind and a desire to truly explore a community that's alien to you, without the same tired old agenda. All that anyone can ask is that we be viewed as full, multi-faceted human beings, and that's what you've done so respecfully. Thank you.
There is one point I wanted to clarify, because it got somewhat lost in the fracas of the Torah party. Jews do not believe that you must be a Torah-observant Jew to be a good person. We believe that non Jews who observe, essentially, the big commandments and live giving lives as good people *are* good people. Also, it is possible to convert to Judaism, although it's a long and complicated process.
In any case, thank you again for this series.

@@eden5260 People tend to conflate Chasidism with a level of religious observance, which it isn't, necessarily. Chasidic Jews generally come from Central or Eastern Europe and are followers of a certain Rebbe (rabbi), and have certain traditions set by that Rebbe. Chasidism is also a different approach to Jewish service that focuses on certain things, more emotion and spirituality versus a more textual, "rational," approach so to speak. I'm probably overgeneralizing, but hopefully you get the idea.
Orthodox Jews follow Jewish law and practice. It's an umbrella term that could include everything from Chassidim, to people like me, who are "yekkes" (of German Jewish descent), to more "modern Orthodox" people who perhaps have more direct exposure to secular culture than other types of Orthodox Jews.
In short, all Chassidim are Orthodox Jews, but not all Orthodox Jews are Chassidim. And the media tends to use "Chassidic" to mean "crazy fundamentalist," which also is not true.

I Live in County Antrim, Ireland and I am an Irish Catholic. There are barely a few hundred Jews living in the North of Ireland where I'm from. I met a Hasidic Jew one day in Belfast City centre in an old book shop. I just happen to be reading a book by a jewish author and he started chatting with me. It was by far one of the most interesting conversations I ever had with a stranger. The level of intelligence and knowledge that was shared with me was unforgettable. He invited me to visit his synagogues of which there are very few in Ireland (North). I was arranging to go when Covid 19 arrived so I had to postpone. I was so impressed by the guy that I can not wait to go visit his wonderful synagogue. It unfortunately has 24 hour police protection because it has been attacked by anti semitic sectarian thugs. These attacks shame me and I look forward to offering my support to the small but resilient Jewish community whose Son brought forth Christianity into the world. God bless all Hasidic Jews and their beautiful families.

@@susampson278 it’s not a Hasidic synagogue in Belfast. When I was there a while back the rabbi was Hasidic but the congregation was mixed secular and orthodox and from what I remember many are very elderly. Plus, regardless, it’s always better to take a cue from the local community - that goes for any religion, ethnicity, etc.

I love other cultures and I have loved all the work you did earlier this year in the Hasidic community. I am eager for you to go to a Hasidic wedding so we can see it firsthand! Thank you for bringing this to your viewers. By the way, I lived in Cairo, Egypt and it is not uncommon in Islam for the men to separate from the women even at dinner parties. My home had a place for both to retreat to after the dinner had been served. Both sexes feel freer and no one is looking at another man's wife or vice versa. Love your videos!

I gave birth at home and I had to get a Hasidic Rabi to do what they call a Briss....getting my 4 sons’ tallywhacker snipped lol! I was there to love and hold my sons each time. I paid $250 and because I am not Jewish the Rabi has to donate the whole amount to charity each time. He wrote a book and I am in it. There was a slight anomaly with all 4 boys, but I had 2 different fathers. So, he felt he had a thesis that the Mother “molds” the “shape” (for a lack of a better word) of the genitalia. I was honored to be in the book. And....don’t you love to see the closeness and respect this culture enjoys!!!
