She made perfect sense and I am embarrassed I was spitting water all over my clothes and tap water at that. Thanks for teaching me how to stream my clothes at 37 LOL
I bought a steamer thinking I would save time from traditional ironing. Not only do the clothes stay somewhat wrinkly, but I constantly burn myself, and it takes easily about 5 times longer than it would with an iron. What a terrible idea of mine and what a waste of my time and money. Back to the iron it is.
I find steaming to be much easier and quicker personally. Ironing for me ironically introduced many wrinkles and was quite aggravating. Perhaps you didn't find the right technique?
this came in good time. I bought a steamer a year ago and never used it. I'm glad you said distilled water because I would have just used tap water. I have 2 curtain panels that I want to steam out the wrinkles. Great motivation.
Jennifer Ann Fox I just took my out of the box as well and I bought my over a year and half ago. I would have used tap water as well. So I agree that this is a great video and I'm getting ready to try it in a few minutes.
Melissa, I love youj, respect you, and need you, but demonstration makes a good video. I don't have a garment steamer, I have never SEEN a garment steamer, and I have never seen anyone USE a garment steamer, either. We iron. For hours! Sometimes all day on Saturday! ALL DAY ! So it would help if you would actually show a few garments and how to steam them: a wool suit or winter wool slacks - what about the lining? a silk blouse? shirts and dresses that got wrinkly in the closet altho already ironed....silky nighties, linen shirts, etc. Not just talk about it. Please. I hate ironing, but love summer cottons. But how? Will the collars pull at the corners? How can you get the button placket to lie flat? etc.
I just wish in a few years from today we will look back at all the time humans wasted on ironing or steaming clothes and laugh, happily, with more time to spend on other things because technology made clothing unwrinklable.
Melissa, I have read some of the comments and they are dead wrong. I used my OXA which I have had in the box for a year and a half. I can't believe how easy it was to use. Thanks for the tutorial. I literally just used it on curtains I just made for my new apartment. It worked like a dream. Thanks alot. I gave thumbs up and will subscribe. Thanks a lot.
Great tips. I've been steaming my clothes for years the wrong way. I never thought to use distilled water. I guess that explains why I need to keep buying steamers. Thanks for the great tips.
I have never used distilled water. I have a few different steamers, which I use in a variety of ways, and tap water has never caused any issues! I find Joy Mangano's steamer to be useless, not matter what type of water is used.
I appreciate the tips on how to steam the right way. I didn’t know you don’t have to touch the garment with the steamer head to get no creases. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing! I've always considered investing in a garment steamer, but I never knew what to look for. Are garment steamers that different from each other?
what sort of room do you use it in? We live in a damp climate and mould is an issue here. Thanks for the tips - steaming extra on a specific area and using essential oils. That's great.
I bought a steamer a couple years ago, thinking it would be easier than ironing. I found it took much longer and was less effective than ironing. And 6 inches away? The steam rises into the air by then. Steamer heads are made smooth so they can touch the fabric. For delicate fabrics you can hold it maybe 1 inch away. This is advised in several other videos on this topic.
The problem I have with my steamer is I cant get the wrinkles out the bottom of my t shirts because I can't hold it tight unless I want to melt my fingers off
My steamer has a crease attachment but I’ve not figured out how to use it. It’s a Rowenta DR82 C-Cel Steam Force. Can you do a product review? I love the steamer itself, but I need to know how to use the crease attachment for pants.
Who's here because they bought a garment steamer, gave it a try then wondered if they're doing it right? Just me? Oh okay. Hahaha
That is me lol. Steamer was delivered 30 minutes ago, I steamed with mediocre results, then thought.. Hang on, maybe watch some youtube video lol.
Exactly what I'm doing here lol
You got me😂

it's never too late to learn something new :P
Me too I was like this is thing is not working 😅 , even wanted it to return it
@@sandramoreno559 It actually works better when you press up against it firmly and move back and forth while holding the fabric with your other hand
You don't have to use destilled water. And if it gets chalky years from now, just clean it with some household vinegar, it's super easy.
@@Sukkermis Thanks

This video should be called - How to TALK about steaming your clothes...
exactly. I see a lot of talking and not a lot of steaming clothes
😂
can you steam your down jacket?
cuz i'm afraid i can't wash it
SERIOUSLY...

Maybe read the instructions or look at your kettle to see if it has limescale or your loo! it is hardly a tip!

I was actually putting the steamer on the clothes🤦🏽♀️… you’re a life saver
Same to me dia
Me too
Same 😂 and I have been doing it for more than 2 years now 🤦♀️
Me too 😂😂😂 and putting it flat on the surface... lol!!! Oops!!!
It looks very time consuming… I thought a Steamer is for a quick fix..
Thank you... I just got my first steamer and your video was not only helpful, but it was also enjoyable to watch. You're awesome. :)
Hold 6 inches away from your garment *holds 1.5” away from the garment* 😂
Seriously. Wtf
Maybe her partner told her that's 6' 😂
@@georgep7862 🤣🤣🤣
…it’s definitely 6”. Watch again. 6” isn’t that much space. 1” is practically touching. It’s just the angle so it looks close.
Mine should touch the clothes directly
Your instructions: simple and effective. Thank you.

LG Style Steamer... You're welcome.
It already exists. I have some dress shirt that never seem to have any wrinkle no matter how I store them.
@@NoReply28 Ok, but when will they invent linen garments and curtains that don't wrinkle???

Any moron can steam ...especially straight bits of material! hardly rocket science !!
Sorry nothing about the power (wattage) use!

Right on thanks Merry Christmas
Now I need a steamer ASAP!!!
Yes - they are amazing!!!!
This whole time I didn't realize you had to pull on the clothing, I was just pointing and getting mad they weren't disappearing 😁
Investing that amount of time + distilled water + fabric refresher . I would prefer outsourcing my laundry 🤣🤣
Distilled water is just a dollar a gallon.
never seen something less helpful in my life
Me either!

First UA-camr that straight called me ugly... im subbing
appreciate the humour.. thanks for this !
Thanks girl! I inherited one of these things and had no idea how to use it.
Thank u so much for a easy way how to do this
Does it really work ... do u get the same results as iron ?????
The build up is just lime scale. Also called hard water. Not disgusting but not great for our machine if not regularly cleaned.
I think its good for t shirts and weekend wear, not sure about using for a important meeting or for sales people
The steaming result look is not "starchy."
The steamer I have says to use tap water only. Would I damage the steamer by using distilled water?

Cant see what shes doing. Can't see the before and after. Too much taking

Great video - Will a steamer restore fabric shape like an iron does?
Do you keep the button held down while you’re steaming?
The one I have has both options. You can lock it for continuous steam.
what sort of room do you use it in? We live in a damp climate and mould is an issue here. Thanks for the tips - steaming extra on a specific area and using essential oils. That's great.
My mini steamer says you can use tap water, would you advise against that?
She is just a youtuber not an expert! if you live in a hard water area don't use tap water!
Can you please indicate which brand and model of steamer you are using. Thank you
What’s a good brand to get ? Going to buy one soon. For clothes and curtains and such
thank you for this videeooo ! it seems super easy and i still feel im kinda doing it wrong. i may need to get a better one. idk!

It’s for cotton, spandex and other materials not meant for ironing
@@hcrystalhit is indeed in many cases, for normal clothes cause it’s more gentle than ironing

can i use boiled tap water?
Does the steam clean the garment as well
Just made the "wrinkles on the face" joke to my girlfriend before we watched. Thanks for the video.
Hell yeah. Four minute video that could have been 30 seconds. Nice!
Who was hilding your garment hanger? I swear I noticed an arm. Thanks for sharing.
How can you get the edges of a garment with the steam when you are holding it taut by the edge?
Burn your thumb like I did yesterday...which brought me to this useless video 😒 😂😂
Wonder what brand do U use?
Water from Brita filter is also ok?
I have a large steamer and love it.
What kind of steamer are you using?
Thank you! This is great!!
Hello..just how many clothes u can iron?I it okay to iron like 5clothes
If i use regular tap water, will i get the same results minus the foggy white chalk in the water container?
Me i use the tap water its now 1yr but don't get any prob with mine
What brand/model steamer is that?
I believe it is the Beautural Handheld Garment Steamer. It's just like mine only white instead of blue.
Instead of putting a hook on the back of a door, would it work if I hung the clothes on a hanger hung on my shower rod?

Use DV to clean. Same method as a coffee maker.

distilled vinegar
Distilled water is not needed. I have hard water, and it has never caused buildup or chalky residue in my steamer.

Why is your Steamer not touching the clothes? Mine is supposed to do that, either wird brush adapter or iron blade + steam of course
Is it okay to use essential oil in steamer?? To make the clothes smell good..
Of course not! it would stain the clothes!
Does steaming directly on the fabric damage the fabric?
I have the same question too

does this clean germs and bacteria and bad smells from suit
And kill any moth eggs and/or microscopic larvae?
can you use it on wool ?

I think it takes practice to know about to do the steaming, I still can’t, I’m still my iron and my iron board
