I do not own the rights to any of the music heard in these videos.
Something I considered when listening to the dialogue of the Maggie and Dad: The sudden shift in both of their behaviors halfway through (on Caves 1) leads me to think they are from two separate perspectives.
Nobody ever thinks they are the bad guy. In the first two sets of dialogue, Maggie is clearly the sane, rational, and tempered person - responding to Dad angrily telling her to “get over the fact” he spent all of their money. He’s yelling the entire time, then leaves with Maggie saying they don’t need him. He leaves because she’s “pushing him.” This is how Maggie tells the story of Dad leaving.
This is then followed by two sets of dialogue (bear in mind, after Dad said he would leave) where Dad is the rational one, while Maggie is acting insane. He tries to reason with her, but she keeps acting crazy. Dad reasons that (due to his addictions) he’s harming Isaac more than helping him, and decides to leave. He had no problem with the mother of his child being insane. She begs for him to stay, a complete contrast from the first set of dialogue. This is the perspective of Dad, leaving for a noble reason.
My parents were like this when they got divorced. Both recounted that they made no mistakes in the relationship and raising us, and every problem was with the other person, who was insane, selfish, and angry (in their eyes).
I don’t think this dialogue is supposed to be Maggie randomly going insane and Dad deciding to stay after the argument where he said he would leave and Maggie all but kicked him out after. This is why Dad left from two perspectives.
From Maggie: Dad was a drunk, obsessive gambler who stole money and was setting a horrible example for Isaac. She wanted nothing else from him besides to never see him again.
From Dad: Maggie was a brainwashed lunatic who wanted the family to follow her beliefs. Dad loved them both, but realized his addictions were harming Isaac, and had to leave for his good, despite Maggie begging him to stay.
Both are not correct in their perspectives, but all Isaac can understand is what his parents tell him. These are the two stories as he understands them.
I think *both* are aspects of what happened. They both had their negatives, but they both had their positives as well. Isaac loved playing his creative games with his father and telling fun imaginative stories, and he loved spending time with his mother, dressing up and playing pretend with her. But just as there are happy times, there are sad times too. This is a case of a family that couldn't reconcile, one whose sad tales eclipsed their happy ones. I have mind to believe that Maggie was always religious, but began to sink too heavily into zealotry via televangelism as a coping mechanism. While Dad's vices were alcoholism and gambling. Dad's Lost Coin, the item, insinuates that Isaac's father actually tried to fight his vices and clean himself up - the coins are actually sobriety chips. Whether or not Dad cleaned himself up after the fight, or relapsed into alcoholism, we don't know.
All we do know is that the family was broken, and they likely couldn't afford to go to counseling and repair themselves. And poor Isaac took the brunt of it, like most children, believing that it was his fault his parents were upset and that he must be possessed by a devil. Even though he was just a poor 7 year old kid who didn't understand anything but the things he heard on his mother's TV.
@@ApexGale Exactly. Both were imperfect and tried to do what they could and what they thought was better, hurting those they loved in the process
The reason Isaac sees his mother in a more negative tone is because she was the one who stayed with him, therefore he got exposed more to her mistakes.
I can really appreciate this perspective, haven’t thought of it in that regard before

i love how the voice lines go through the 5 stages of grief:
isaac’s mom *denies* to accept that his dad spent all their savings.
she expresses *anger* over how much isaac has ended up like him.
she *bargains* with him, trying to win him over and help him find the light of god like she has.
she becomes *depressed* as dad becomes more determined to leave them, begging him to stay through teary eyes.
all that’s missing is acceptance, which is fitting since she refuses to *accept* that he’s gone and takes it out on her son, and is why you can find many of his belongings in the basement. it’s small details like these that make isaac lore one of my favourite video game lores of all time.
You can take it even further if you consider that the entire Ascent/Home sequence is Isaac *accepting* that he isn’t evil, and leaving the fantasy world he created behind to accept his fate
Did you play The End is Nigh?
Those are the names of the "Iron Carts" and the "Tower of Acceptance"
holy shit this is poetic
The song that plays when you die is called *Acceptance* !
@@yuyo8286 hadn’t played it when i first posted this but i have now, great game
This theme represents isaac realizing little by little that "going deeper" into his fantasy world was not going to solve his problems, later discovering that the cause of his problems was not him but his mother as a bad mother and a bad believer, and of the problems that were created because of dogma, only that it ended up realizing this already inside the chest without having the opportunity to go out and save ...
I gave you the like number 69
It's further proven in the beast fight if you look closely you can see the beast wearing the dress which means Issac sees his mom as an actual monster
Fun fact: The main layer for the ascent theme is the main menu but reversed without the choirs
Thank you. I cant find my former commet, but I just wanted to say, that this portion of the game motivated me, to contact my abusive mother after almost 4 years of silence and we sorted everything out in an almost 4 hour talk. I confronted her with the abuse, she previously denied and she finally admitted to it, explained it to me why and took full responsibility. It was truly a talk between adults.
This section and this song are responsible, that I could finally forgive her after all these years.
I actually talk to my mother again, which is incredible for me. Tboi changed my life.
All that from the binding of isaac? Damn dude that's insane, nice work. Y'know it's funny I thought I was crazy for when I was thinking about having to move away from my favorite people in the world during listening to the ost for the "home" floor and now I associate that with my old friends but you're the best man.
Keep doing what you're doing, I hope we cross paths again!
This goes out to all the people who say "It's just a game." So proud of you man. Keep your head up.
holy shit, that's really awesome my guy
That’s amazing dude
@@Sickmmaner its not just a game
its a game thats responsible for somebodys life being changed and contacting their abusive mother
I _spent_ it. It's _gone._ Just get over it!
What do you mean... What do you mean "it's gone"?
How can you have spend our savings!?
He's self-destructive and disturbed, just like his father! Look at who he has to look up to! ...And you're drunk again, aren't you?
SHUT UP MAGGY! SHUT. UP. You just keep pushing me like this, I'm living!
Good, L I V E ! ! We'll be fine without you, abandon us like you abandoned yourself.
You need to repent! You need to confess your sins, and become saved! Let His light inside you! Cleanse your soul!
Think I'm the only one who likes heading down at least one of the alt floors so I can hear that sweet layer on Downpour/Mines.
When im heading to ascent i go to both downpour and mines for the music and because the knife is pretty strong
i like to believe the reason downpour and mines get layers is because the alt path ending is a crucial scene to help you fully understand isaac's story
I'm fairly sure it still plays for the entire ascent if you only go to one of the alt floors.
I think if you go to every type of floor, there will be an extra layer in basement
The hero we needed and probably deserved
This may come out weird, but the first time I heard this music, it made me cry a little bit. Its probably cause Issac's story is very sad and horrible so I couldn´t help but cry
It’s starting to make me cry I’ve been through hard stuff in life
Lmao imagine crying to a game about a blue baby eating his own shit
WE NEED YOU, YOUR SON NEED YOU!!!! PLEASE, PLEASE DON'T LEAVE US...
Im sorry isaac.
I just can't do this
I'M SORRY ISSAC I MOST BUY MILK
When Isaac's father tells him one last time to never give up on his imagination, that was the true heartbreak point for me. With the Divorce Papers and all, we see that Isaac's father truly loves him, and the abusive relationship Isaac has with his parents isn't his fault. Even when he left, even when he never looked back, he was always thinking about his son. He cared. And even if all this sh&%ty nonsense will add up in the end, when the Lord opens his book of records, we know that even in different ways, both parents were by Isaac's side. They loved him, and through that, they could've loved each other. But sadly, Isaac represses these into such terrible fantasies it's literally heartbreaking to see the end. I thank thee goodnight.
The drums in this song are amazing
This is probably the smallest detail that no one knows about:
The expansion pack is called Repentance but why? Isaac really didn’t repent neither did his parents so what’s the point? In Hebrew, the word Teshuva translates to Repentance, but it’s direct translation is “Return” Return to your original holy pure state, or return “home.”
And that’s what Isaac did.
A really cool interpretation, but I must say that Isaac did repent
He repented the fact that all he had done was flee from his fears rather than facing them
Thats what the Ascent represents afterall. The deeper Isaac goes in the game, the farther away from the reality of his situation (Home) and the deeper he is going into his delusion, which ends with him dying thinking that he ruined his family.
Therefore, the Ascent is the opposite, Isaac repenting the fact he went down in the first place and finally choosing to face his fears even if it is already too late
Thank you for reuploading. Was real sad when the other got taken down.
I spent it, it’s gone! Just get over it!
What do you mean, What do you mean it's gone, HOW COULD YOU HAVE SPENT OUR PRIMOGEMS
omg I just realized the theremin or whatever sounds a lot like the Flash soundtrack that's super neat :D
I played them at the same time and yeah it's very likely a callback to that
This is the main theme (genesis) backwards with layers of music on top btw
And no voices
"I'VE SPENT IT, IT'S GONE, JUST GET OVER IT!"
"What do you mean...what do you mean, it's _gone?!_ How can you have spent our savings?!"
"HES SELF DESTRUCTIVE AND DISTURBED JUST LIKE HIS FATHER
LOOK AT WHO HE HAS TO LOOK UP TO
And Youre Drunk Again Arent You"
"SHUT UP MAGGIE! SHUT UP! YOU JUST KEEP PUSHING ME WITH THIS, I'M LEAVING!"
“GOOD, LEAVE! We’ll be fine without you! Abandon us like you abandoned yourself…”
listening to all of this 30 minutes is the equivalent to listening to Genesis II 30 minutes
wrong, there are a bunch of extra layers on top, plus the choir is gone
Isaac its yo time to shine
He's self-distructive and disturrbed just like his father! Look who he has to look up to... And you're drunk again, aren't you?
Shut up, Maggy! SHUT. UP. You just keep pushing me like this, i'm leaving!
Good, LEAVE! We'll be fine without you! Abandon us like you abandoned yourself..

does it have a name in particular
in the game files it just refers it to "Genesis II Reverse (layer)"
