Anthony Marinelli's YT channel is such a trip. It's crazy to have someone who recorded on such iconic albums share their knowledge so freely and graciously. What a time to be alive and making music!
I would like to see more people in the industry do what Curly is doing. Everyone I have ever jammed with has always shown me something new, it's what we do and in my opinion it makes for better music.
If you are struggling to finish songs, watch this video, it will give you a thousand ideas, and this is the best part of youtube, that is why I tossed away all television programs and never had this much fun. Anthony's channel is beyond exceptional, but Dr. Mix is really taking it to another level, you deserve everything you worked so hard for. Cheers!
As an avid fan of both video channels, it was a thrill to have your paths cross, and in what better way to converge than for Quincy's 90th birthday concert!!!! I can totally relate to the emotional volcano that you must have felt. Can't wait for the rest of the musical excitement!
The thing that I get from this, is that it’s not a one person show. There is a team of talent involved. It’s not only Michael, or Quincy. It’s a multiple combo of creative ideas, starting with the idea, then arrangement, creating sounds, then performance, finally engineering and mixing/mastering. Probably 30 people involved, at least. I don’t feel so bad now, about my music, being that I’m the only one on my team. Lol.
Greg Phillinganes, Paul Jackson Jr, John "JR" Robinson. Those are the most heavy of the heavy hitters. That had to be a great show! And great interview with Anthony Marinelli. Thanks for sharing it, Claudio!
16:10 Biggest words of advice for any music producer/composer, create dynamics! Absolutely loved this episode, we're blessed to being able take part of your passion Claudio ❤
@@Byron101_ I agree. I think one issue is that people don't make their sounds from the scratch. They buy drum/synth and guitar/bass samples and loop them. I mean, it's efficient and can make great songs but the issue is it's very repetitive and it's hard to create dynamics with the same loops over and over. Sterile and boring like you said :P
"Thriller" is my all-time favorite album from my all-time favorite artist. I've been following Anthony Marinelli's UA-cam channel, as well as the "Stories in the Room" channel for some time now. I love hearing all the stories behind the "Thriller" tracks, as well as Anthony's videos on how to create the different sounds used on the album. I don't own any fancy synthesizers, but his videos are still fun to watch/hear. I wasn't expecting Anthony to be on your channel. This may be my favorite video you've done yet! I can't wait to see what other content you've recorded with Anthony!
It was a great pleasure for me to watch the information and analysis from two masters. Thank you very, very much. Please continue, I will look forward to it. With respect and love...
The collab between The good Dr. and Mr. Marinelli will cause new worlds to be formed! So excited to see my two favourite synth channels together like this...
Claudio, even with all of your talent and success, it's still amazing to see heroes and legends that you've looked up to. What an amazing experience you were able to enjoy. God bless and keep inspiring!
This was fantastic Claudio. You are hanging out with music industry royalty now! I've always been amazed at how dense the the ideas were in an album like Thriller. It wasn't just a regular pop album. So much detail and experimentation that went into such a labor of love (and so many wild and random guest spots from Vincent Price to Eddie van Halen to Paul McCartney). What I love about PYT is something you didn't talk about: At the end, during the coda, for no particular reason, Alvin the Chipmunk shows up. He doesn't appear anywhere else in the song or the album. He just shows up for a few bars, and that's it. Thriller is full of these one-off sounds and ideas. Most artists today recycle their sounds, such that every song on each album sounds the same. But every song on Thriller sounds unique, like they were making a different cake from scratch, and then throwing the recipe away and starting again on the next song with completely different ingredients. Thank you Anthony, Michael, Quincy, and everyone at Westlake, for such a genius work of art that will stand the test of time.
I'm even getting misty with vicarious happiness for you, Claudio. When one passionately dedicates his life to music, he shouldn't be surprised when she invites him inside. You're walking the path to where you belong. You can't fight the magic! 🤩
This was such a special coming together of two musical souls. The love and appreciation for both each other and the work of Quincy Jones and MJ was wonderful to watch. Thanks so much for sharing your time together and the sharing of your vast musical knowledge and experience you give to us. Peace Pat
What a beautiful joyous experience for them both but also us. Incredible listening and learning about these great songs that I first discovered when I was 12. Time flies!
So great. So many things I would like to comment on. Claudio and Anthony together further diving into my fave MJ songs ever. Quincy BDay. Stevie! Thanks for sharing. And thanks to the teams behind both Claudio and Anthony! Good people behind the scenes making things happen so that this can be shared. It's appreciated!
Love this one! Quincy Jones’ Birthday Bash was a treat, as well as Anthony’s studio and stories! Thank you for taking us all along on a Synth vacation any of us would appreciate!
Absolutely magical video - so enjoyable and so happy that your hard work is taking you in this orbit - your raw talent, charisma, passion and enthusiasm (especially for MJ & Thriller album - the bestest album ever!!!) is infectious! More of this please. QJ’s birthday celebrations looked amazing - anywhere in the UK you can view the whole thing???
Maybe the most enjoyable part of this video (for me) is how you seemed so humbled and wonderstruck you were, and of course this genuine camaraderie. Beautiful kinship.
WOW WOW WOW WOW MAN !!! Amazing video , I actually felt I was there ! Wow what a live gig , and imagine to have Stevie Wonder to sing “Happy Birtday” …and the studio..wow (NR 6) .. I am speechless! Hats off and thumbs up for you man 👍👍👍
Anthony's channel is awesome! This synth "frog sound" saga brought me there and I always listen to his synths tutorials with a lot of attention, this guy is a master. Nice Interview Doc, this collab' with Anthony is awesome!
26:12 so true - this reminds me of one of the Pink Floyd tracks on DSOM or WYWH and there's a guitar chord that's just amazing and it's plain old E (IIRC). It's the way they got to that chord that made it such a great destination.
Claudio… Man… may i say how proud of you i am… yeah proud of you!!! I think you deserve such stellar level of musical contacts and interaction Bró! And yeah another “little” thing: i really can see how Anthony look at you while you extract even the most little sound from the full mix! All myrespect and love Man!
My jaw dropped when I seen you guys were collaborating! You both seem like such humbled people with amazing talent. You guys spill gems about some of the most iconic and legendary tracks of all time!!! I am like many others, truly speechless...
For the Greg Phillingaines lead line my ears tell me that the vibrato MIGHT have been done using the pitch bend controller. It has a feel kind of similar to the Save a Prayer line, which was done that way. It would also tie up with the idea that the vibrato goes up, rather than either side of the main pitch. Don’t know, just my thoughts from the sound. Great to see all this.
Amazing. Anthony is an amazing contributor to our musical journey. Thank you Doctor Mix...The Videos you both contribute are great. Glad you enjoyed your time.
Wow, this was incredible. I have a very short attention span and I watched the ENTIRE thing and even went back a few times to listen again. Like you said when you first saw Michael at the Bowl. This is "Magic"
I was already a big fan of both channels (plus Anthony's Stories In The Room channel), so this collaboration is pure gold. Anthony's channel has really given me a lot of great insights, and I particularly love the way he explains how he programs sounds. Also, my mind is blown that anytime Quincy needed a keyboard played on Thriller he had Greg Phillingaines, Michael Boddicker, David Foster, and Steve Porcaro in the studio. Talk about choice paralysis!
This was so AWESOME!!! Thank you for doing this P.Y.T analysis and talking with Anthony Marinelli one of the coolest dudes in the business, next to you of course. LOL Again, Great stuff.
What a fantastic content this is! Too funny to see kind of opposites together. Super enthusiastic Doctor Mix (as always, but I also understand if you would meet legendary Anthony) and the super calm Anthony Marinelli. But both connoisseurs of music and equipment. Very cool to see parts of Quincy Jones birthday too.
Wow, Claudio! I was so surprised to see this collaboration with Anthony Marinelli! I've been watching all his videos, so I was already aware of the deep dives he has taken, but to see you teaming up with Anthony is fantastic! I was nerding out the whole time! Awesome! The first time I heard this song was at a roller rink in Topeka Kansas 82-83 and the only thing I noticed was the drums and the keys so..... Anthony, thanks for the memories and being a part of the infrastructure of my musical life! Heck yeah! Another good vid!
Just amazing to meet these legends, it's cool and emotional to share with us your meeting with the geniuses who brought us some of the greatest music...real music.
This was an amazing video and I really enjoyed every bit of it!!! I also love your channel and Anthony's as well....... Amazing stuff that truly keeps the inspiration and desires going and flowing!!! Thank you BOTH so much for this !!!!!

I've watched you for years doing short vids of everything, but to see you with him is cool, he is so technical it's ridiculous, and to see him look at music as feeling once again makes my smile, him watching you get into it is cool

7:26 😳Patti Austin!!! Man!! Talk about FINE WINE!!! Holy Moly she is STUNNING!!! As for the track--I was immediately infatuated with that synth bass back in high school. Couldn't afford a synth or a keyboard of any sort so I drew one on my science class folder replete with knobs and sliders --I actually think I still have this folder some 38 years later😂-- and I learned the synth bass part and when a fellow high school band member brought in his red SH-01-- I showed off😏. And as closely as I listen to all the background stuff I songs I like, I'm just Hearing the parts Claudio is pointing out here!
Wow one of the best videos I’ve seen in a long time. I really enjoyed this. Hearing all these different details about this song. Love it. Michael will always be number one to me. But seeing that Michael made sure to have the best of the best team behind him is the number one key.
Anthony Marinelli's YT channel is such a trip. It's crazy to have someone who recorded on such iconic albums share their knowledge so freely and graciously. What a time to be alive and making music!
This guy just has had his talent on every masterpiece recording since 70s I love him!
I would like to see more people in the industry do what Curly is doing.
Everyone I have ever jammed with has always shown me something new, it's what we do and in my opinion it makes for better music.
He didn't play on any of the recordings he just played a technical part by programming the synths.
Crazy to see you and Anthony Marinelli together, amazing.
I came here to say exactly that.
Exactly!
I second. Excellent video, thank you both.
For me this is truly a BFD!
such contrasting energies but equally infinite passion for the music, it's amazing to watch
The Arp 2600 bass line in this song is just epic. Pure funk and groove. Magic.
I can created something like that
🤣@@oholm09
@bepohenrique2875 it's the magic ingredient I feel. And the programming of the bass voice.
What makes this video so perfect is the genuine mutual respect and admiration these guys have for each other.
Hold up, Doctor Mix meets with Anthony Marinelli at Quincy’s 90th birthday? This is crazy.

Yes Claudio matches up well with Anthony.
I was not prepared for how wonderful this would be.

I had goosebumps the whole video !! Really awesome to be part of that Claudio 🎉❤
This was SOOOOOOOOO good! Thank you all!
10:42 Greg Phillinganes (Keys); Paul Jackson Jr. (Guitar); Nathan East (Bass); and John Robinson (Drums). + 50 Years in recording !!!
What a line up eh?
Ndugu Chancler drums and Louis Johnson bass on this track!

This track never fails to get me moving. The creation of the album had the best talent and of course the one and only MJ. Great video!
These new videos about the making of classic MJ songs have been so great, and this is another one!
16:10 Biggest words of advice for any music producer/composer, create dynamics! Absolutely loved this episode, we're blessed to being able take part of your passion Claudio ❤
exactly! in these days people use too much compression, there´s no dynamic, the modern sound is so sterile and boring... .
Not me, check out 'Stick It In' very dynamic, giving Max Martin a lesson, ha ha @@Byron101_

so much legends packed in this video (Greg Philliganes was also on the Piano (6:50) in concert), absolute amazing legend VIDEO , thanks
Omg this is amazing! Never given the song enough respect
From a musicians standpoint it is critical to get as much information from the older generation who made such iconic music we all grew up on.
This was fantastic Claudio. You are hanging out with music industry royalty now!

These kind of things are music (synthesizer) history and you guys helping to preserve the knowledge.
This is like traveling in time, while been in the present, this video is another precious jewel with Anthony Marinelli and Quincy Jones B-day.

The crossover I always wanted to see!

Ultimate crossover!!! Anthony and the Doc!? Mind blown
I follow both of you, great to see the collab. Pure gold!

Thank you Doctor Mix, this is incredible!!!
This Video is Gold. There is so much to learn from. Thank you
What an absolutely incredible day.
Enjoyed this so much, i had to go back and watch again several times. This is amazing content. 😀
for sure so much fun 44:04 !!!
I love Anthony's gently amused responses :)
Beautiful humans, beautiful music. Incredible video.
It‘s absolutely gold to get this knowledge. I looooove youtube and guys like the Doctor who create all this.
Where that "Reggae"- thing comes from! I think that's cleared because wikipedia and the album inner sleeve tell that James Ingram played "keyboard" on PYT. Because its exactly the same patch as on Donna Summer's "Love Is In Control" (an '82 Quincy Jones production as well) it's a YAMAHA Portasound, revealed/printed in Donna Sumner's CD booklet.
It sounded like it!!

Freaking AWESOME man! I love Anthony's channel, seeing your thumbnail of you to together today made my day
Yeah baby! He’s great isn’t he? How are you doing man?! Long time !!
