He was an antagonist in Fast Five. At least until he sided with Dominic Toretto and his crew to avenge his own team.
I hate when people create these rumors where a wrestler plays a giant character. Apocalypse will be a CG role. They need a vocal talent that can also do the mocap
Josh Brolin did the mocap and voice for Thanos. A CG character does not exclusively need to be handled by a voice talent.
If there’s one actor who definitely deserves to voice Apocalypse, it’s Christopher Judge.
After the disaster that was Black Adam, I don't think I ever want to see Dwayne Johnson in a comic book movie again.

Just remember apocalypse barely ever really gets a full on defeat in the comics yes it has happened but usually apocalypse ends up just getting a small beat during the situation he is in and just gets fed up and is like I'm tired of this cya later lol
Rob's got a point. I'm not sure I'm cool with Dwayne, but the introduction of Apocalypse as a method of bringing the X-Men into the fold sounds good.

Also, an issue is that The Rock has a “no lose clause” in his contract, making it so his characters are written to never be bested in a fight

I've never seen Ben Hur.
It's on my list of things to see at one point. i've heard good things.
from what he's describing, that sounds like a good character storyline idea between Apocalypse and Kang.
The question is whether they will actually do that. We saw Rama-Tut in the post-credits scene in Quantumaia but he looked pretty goofy.
I kind of doubt they'll do this idea. But would love to see some animatics for storyboards for this kind of thing.

I would be willing to bet that it was The Rock's PR team trying to push him into the MCU. Leak the idea to the public and try to use public expectations to leverage his casting.
He was using the same tactics to try to get his way with DC.
I don’t want to see apocalypse performing wrestling moves battling the X-men.
What if this is part of the Post Credit scene for Deadpool? Maybe that’s part of the reason the leaker was saying they couldn’t believe Marvel pulled it off without leaking. He’s also in Disney’s Moana LA so it could slide under the radar.

This is bad news, he literally plays himself in every movie he is in, he will not bring anything to the table.
If he committed to this and is directed well, this could be the perfect casting just because of the physicality and presence he brings. If he makes Apocalypse another Rock character... it's a bad idea. But he looks the part, there's no doubt about that.
It is literally impossible for the rock to play a villain in any MCU project for the simple reason that he has a “can’t lose” clause in his contract that states he cannot lose a fight on screen. I’m surprised this idea was even commented on.

Terrible idea. I'm tired of people hiring actors just for their physical size instead for more acting chops. I'm sorry but as an XMEN fan, Apocalypse is really an highly intelligent character who doesn't just use his violence all day. He's cunning and manipulative and likes to operate behind the shadows. I would rather see Dave Batista because he has actually proven his acting chops.

They already tried that with Oscar Isaac and failed miserably. Batista was already drax. He wants to move on. The Rock's arrogance fits Apocalypse's persona. Just my opinion.

It does make sense… if this is true… to announce it so early… given the success he’s riding and headlines he’s generated with Wrestlemania 40. Also with Marvel basically doing anything they can to gain their success again.
0:26 Well, this is where I have to disagree with you, Marvel did not introduced the MCU version of Beast, because it was Played by Kelsey Grammer from the Fox’s X-Men version of Beast. So yea lol
With the multiverse involved, versions of any character can pop up, like Reed Richards, Professor X, etc. I can't see Apocalypse as being more than a cameo even if they are setting him up to be a future big bad a la Thanos. Personally I think Dave Bautista would make a great Apocalypse, as long as they completely CGI him so he doesn't look like Drax lol.
Apocalypse is not the first mutant. Salene predates him by at least 5,000 years. Also, Dewayne Johnson will just try to Black Adam the movie and make it his own.

If true, and with the egos involved, Dwayne Johnson will likely want to have a huge role and be the focus of the film. Apocalypse is that type of villain. I love the casting. But I'm taking it with a galaxy sized grain of salt.

He can't be Apocalypse--the Rock puts it in his contracts that his characters aren't allowed to lose a fight. So, unless Apocalypse is a good guy, or unless Marvel doesn't plan to ever have anyone beat him... this won't work.

This would definitely be stunt casting, I love Dwayne Johnson but I don’t think it’d be a good fit at all, I feel like he’d wanna go less of the serious acting he did in movies like Snitch and he’d just wanna be The Rock from Fast And Furious or something, he wouldn’t really be concerned with playing a *character,* I feel like if he was cast as a smaller role in the MCU where he *could* play more of himself without people thinking it’s weird kinda like what Taika Waititi did as Korg maybe that could work, but Apocalypse is a big important villain in Marvel, you cannot afford to do something like that with a villain like him, and anyways it’s probably not even a real headline, after Black Adam failed I doubt anyone is gonna be looking to put Dwayne Johnson in another comic book movie anytime soon
i don't think they're going to have The Rock for this. But I think one of the reasons his name is out there from that Twitter source could be becasue they're looking for a certain type of actor for the role of Apocalypse. And The Rock is their first draft of a choice to at least roughly establish the sort of person they're looking for as far as persona, charisma, body type that sort of thing. And they'll then whittle it down until they have the personality and actor type they really want.
If Dwayne does well in his upcoming A24 film, THEN I’ll be excited.
