definitely agree that "clean" should be taken into account in the design. the original green and pink doesn't make me feel like it's supposed to make me clean. the blue really helped (both the pale and bold blue)

ay den Aaand they need money. And it depends on who your buying it from. If people really want cheap tampons you can literally get them for two dollars. And think about the fact the cotton and the string has to be bought, and then put together. Someone’s got to pay for the time it takes to make and wrap them too.
And people complaining about this, tell me why a men’s shoe for the same exact size in women’s shoes cost more?

What I genuinely don’t understand is why the packaging being pink is such a big deal? I think a better way would be to deconstruct those stereotypes we have about colours and stop making men feel like pink is a female colour. I personally feel like making packages yellow to be more inclusive only enforces gender stereotypes. I think companies should rather diversify their “male” products, make them more colourful etc. But saying this product shouldnt be pink bc trans men are also using it, just re-enforces that pink products shouldnt be used by men.
Edit: That’s not to say that their packaging isn’t extremely ugly lmao, yours is def much more visually appealing.

In this case, Unilever is a gigantic corporation and very rarely redesigns their products. It's considered risky to radically change a product's packaging as repeat customers may have difficulty identifying the item on the shelf, and then choose something else.
It's only within the last 10 years that changing your branding to be less stereotypical is almost expected, let alone acceptable.

First off, I'm not offended about anything and don't really care what these look like. Just hoping to shed some light: pretty much all packaging/sales decisions are made based on data/numbers. The reason the packaging is like that, is that it sells better. It's not about excluding anyone, or maintaining traditional roles or anything. It's ONLY about getting the most people possible to buy it.
Like I said, not bashing anyone or anything. Just trying to explain kels question "why do they have to be like this". It's because it makes the most business/financial sense. But hey, maybe they'll make a neutral colored alternative in smaller quantities. That would make sense.
Also, despite knowing that you need it and not needing to be "sold" that product, you do have to choose between brands. Hence the marketing.

    • @starvision4233

AAAH I haven't even finished the video but I had to pause just to say thank you!!! I'm a trans guy and I can't express how refreshing it feels to have a non-trans person talk about these issues and actually get all of it RIGHT. Thanks for being you 👍

i love these types of videos. it makes me realize that we should really hold companies to better standards as far as graphic design. the products we pay a lot of money for (like tampons) should have better packaging.

Because women aren't the only ones who buy tampons so they shouldn't be the only ones represented on the box. Its just an easy way to make your brand more inclusive.

(I’m a trans man btw so this is how i feel about it)
Okay i saw your trans rights merch but not this video. I think it’s great that people want trans people to be included in society BUT as a trans man it’s very uncomfortable to be included in pads and tampons..
It doesn’t make it any better for us to by it and the saying “Men get their periods” makes me so uncomfortable and dysphoric.
I wish “cis” and non lgbt people that support us could see that.
I don’t want to be included when it comes to menestral cycles. and i know their are some “trans” individuals that advocate for it but when i use to have my cycle i didn’t even by those at the store myself. why? because it’s uncomfortable and made me hate myself more and more.
And now (in my opinion and how i see it) it’ll be easier to identify trans people. Because if i bought them i’d pass enough to be seen as a guy buying it for his girlfriend but now that pads and tampons are “inclusive” it’s like “HEY HES A TRANS GUY HE PROBABLY NEEDS THEM”
I hope that makes sense. Love the support though, we do need that.
