i find it so funny when a brand like Petco is trying to be all "oh yea we care about pets" when they advertise and sell hamster cages that are 100% plastic and the size of a lunch box 😂

I do like kel’s take on the logo, except at first glance it looks like a cat head and the dog’s ears are it’s arms. It took a few seconds to read.

Ha! Totally love her work, but I started thinking the dog’s eyes ended up looking like the cat’s nipples and the mouth looks like the whooha. But I still think it’s way better than the redesign

The branding designs are sick, I wasn't convinced about the logo but honestly all the mockups never fail to impress. The typography also stands on its own pretty well imo

Can every major brand just hire you so we can live in an aesthetic world
design isn't about aesthetic, it is about necessities and the best ways to solve them. a brand does not need to be pretty, it needs to comunicate their most fundamental values and be remembered. if u like aesthetics you should be looking for art, not design
@@varrogan kelly’s designs are always aesthetically pleasing and are also functional. don’t take my light hearted comment so seriously

@@varrogan i do agree with you. They’re “aesthetically” nice but in the aspects of function i dont think they always work.
@@varrogan design is a branch of art, and aesthetics definitely play into it, since a logo is a form of marketing and aesthetically pleasing things attract more. functionality, clarity and how memorable they are don't cancel the importance of aesthetics, they must blend together, and depending on the brand, how beautiful/pleasing a logo is could be very important.
So impressed on how you made that heart logo with all those pets! I did see the cat with a body though but I feel like that could be “fixed” by changing the dog ears. Either way, I love it! Thanks for bringing life back into the logo!!
I would really love to see a redesign for Nickelodeon, the life that was once in that brand has been missing in recent years.
i keep seeing the dog's ears at the cat's arms, like its a cat standing on it's hind leg making an assertative pose. but i love it and its adorable

yessss as soon as I saw petco’s new logo I thought it was HORRIBLE
petco is far from being concerned about the health and well being of the animals that are there.
It's s huge improvement! And watching your thought process and skills is inspiring.
i love how kel gradually gets more and more explicitly upset with their new logo
7 things I like about this video:
1. The logo, ads, and shirts are inclusive of more pets beyond just dogs and cats so will speak to more of the customers deeper.
2. Red and green weren't used together really (that reminds me of Christmas).
3. It all feels modern but in the fun sense. Modern doesn't have to mean sleek and sterile. I could picture the shirts sold at Urban Outfitters and people saving the ads for their fridge.
4. The charm and fun is back even more than the original, far more.
5. As a dog mama and animal lover this brand speaks to me much more than brands I don't use like Redbull or alcohol.
6. Kel has great sense of color and artsy aesthetic with fashion, hair, makeup, accessories, clothes, background. Would love a makeup tutorial.
7. Logo redesigns are strangely relaxing to watch.
P.S. To me, that "e" is kinda awkward!

I saw the thumbnail and where it says 'redesign' pointing at Petco's redesign, I thought that was the logo you came up with and was like "...isn't this completely missing the point" and felt kind of turned off to the video. Glad I clicked. Love the tote bags 😍 Except the simplified iteration of the heart kind of looks like a cat with a big muscle-y body lol

Regardless of the attempt to redesign here, I, for one, would like to applaud Petco's transition into a local drugstore antiseptic brand.
you did exactly what they were trying to accomplish with their rebrand 150x better than they did, wow. the final product was so good!!

the dogs ears giving the cats arm also gives both of them an equally "big" feeling to me, it reads well. Im glad you have two options, at first I was worried about the logo being the ONLY version, but in the context that you put it in the "business" makes sense and gives it charm, like on a tote bag *compliments, #1 has the vibe of the hipster Creative KidStuff toy store (RIP!)*

Working at Petco for 2 years, especially since before the logo change, the life has been COMPLETELY sucked out of the company. It went from fun to absolutely depressing. All of the fun coworkers left because of the poor management and I'm seriously considering quitting, but with no available jobs in my field, its really putting me in a really difficult place...
Your redesign gave me this little flash of nostalgia for my old coworkers. Thank you c:
