@09:47 That was exactly what I got from the S1000RR and people thought I was nuts. They dialled out any kind of character from it. It was unchallenging. I got the impression that I could get off and the bike would carry on up the road by itself and park up back at the dealer :D They'd make a great (safe) step up for someone to their 1st litre bike, but it won't teach them anything.
@@royaljordanian The question is how do I find that bike? I had 15 bikes (some include the Triumph Daytona 675R, S1000R, Ducati StreetFighter, Superduke 1290 R and many others) in the last 5 years and none of them did it for me, not even close.
I gotta say I'm one of the people that really like the looks of it! It may help that I'm young (19), but it looks clean, sleek, and sporty to me. It looks like an amazing and comfortable ride, and I love the pops and crackles of the stock exhaust. I would seriously consider this as a second bike once I get my first which, of course, has to be a supersport!
Rode it today whilst my bike was in for a service. Out for 2 hours on all road types including town filtering, it's bloody epic. I can't see the point of the R now, it does everything brilliantly, I was keeping a very brisk pace and never felt close to getting outside my comfort zone, such an easy bike to ride fast.
Im really tossing up between this and a GS for a touring bike to compliment my HP4. I really need to find the time to get out to a dealer and ride one and a GS on the same day.
7:15 considering the turning circle and higher position, is it a better bike for filtering than the s1000r? I know it's heavier, but the turning circle seems to be smaller, isn't it?
Appreciate the upload RJ. I was trying to decide between this bike and the 2015 Multistrada and bought the Multistrada after a 30 minute test drive on both bikes and bought the Multistrada in the show room the same day and rode the Multistada 3600 KM / 2237 Miles home.
Your comment at the end, "Perfection is boring" is a great line and I almost agree. I have to keep my street triple as well because it has something that the xr doesn't. Partly its because its so unassuming, where as the xr is VERY assuming. I wish I could put it into words as well. The xr does everything except give you the very very biggest of smiles, that's where the street triple comes in.
Amazing bike, I did a test ride on it yesterday and I loved the power, handling and the comfy seat, it is so easy to ride. The only thing putting me off is the too much vibration I was getting on the right hand side handle bar, not sure whether it was that bike or it is a known issue.
Didn't he say something like "it's like the perfect student who gets straight A's in every subject, but you wouldn't go out with them to have fun during the weekend"?
As you said, this bike is a direct competitor for the Multistrada. Have you ridden the Multi (either the 2010-2014, or the new 2015 model) yet so that you can make a comparison? I know my bike has many flaws, but it always excites me. Curious as to your thoughts...
Thanks for that RJ. Tried the R1200RS which fills the same niche as the XR with boxer twin and shaft drive. Too lairy. My 2015 R1200R isn't the fastest. Handles brilliantly and comfy. But is also fun, which is why we ride.
In terms of it stealing sales form the GS, surely and BMW sale is a win for them, and the fact it has a shared platform with the s1000, would make it cheaper to make?
***** If you like feathering clutch in traffic, jerky delivery and rather bad build quality then you'll like it. Otherwise steer clear. Overall it's a nice bike, especially the torque, however, a few things make the bike annoying to ride after a while. Everything is individual though and what I don't like you might love so if you're interested in getting one you definitely have to test ride it.
The Naked Biker It will definitely be better than my old moped which had everything you mentioned above minus the torque. ;) There have been a few improvements with the 2015 model though! Especially with the throttle response. I've read both, very good and very bad reviews, I'm gonna have my own test ride and then I'll see for myself.
As soon as a I get a decent income together im going to buy a BMW. I love them, they nail that style and feel and not much work needs to be done if your a simple guy like me, that exhaust sounded nice, quite yet had enough to it that you could let people know your around. I might look into this model or a future version of the S1000 or ill go with something else from BMW. New bikes seem to be coming out every year, it might take me that long to get the money together for a new bike... I'll be upgrading from a CFMoto Leader 150cc. CFMoto are another company that I like, they are new but making a big show here in Australia, I have their full range at my local bike shop 5 minutes from my house.
It's not perfection - the clutch lever is not adjustable, the screen only has two fixed positions, the pannier frames aren't integrated into the body and the engine buzzes (annoyingly for many) at around 5k which is about 70 mph so ideal cruising speed for many. But it has its own raspy character (unless you're only used to singles and v-twins) and sings like an F1 engine, complete with snap, crackle and pops on the overrun. The ergonomics are halfway between the GS and Multistrada, and are just sublime. It's fuelling is excellent as is slow speed balance and steering agility. The quickshifter is excellent, far better than on other BMW's that I've owned. There's a lot of tech on the bike and as mentioned in the video it can crush continents. Some will prefer a GS, Multistrada, SRR or S1000R, and vive la difference. I've owned those bikes and for me the S1000XR is probably the best solution for my needs and its minor irritants can largely be quickly and relatively cost efficiently rectified.
Hey rj, I drove the s1000xr yesterday. Test ride. What a great bike, it's so fast and has so much torque in sixth gear, really mind blowing. I love this bike but it's quite expensive...
Can be this bike a tough rival of Multistrada 1200?? Edit: sorry in advance if RJ said something about the Multiestrada, didn't get it, I'm not an English native speaker.
Being that you enjoyed the riding position of the bike, I wonder if you might enjoy the raspy, lusty twin of the Multistrada a bit more maybe? I for one would enjoy seeing you test ride a new 2015 Multi. Great video as always RJ!
Interesting RJ did it lack fun off the line? I rode the GSX-S1000 it also seemed to do everything perfect. But I found it, well boring might be too strong a word, just did not excite me until it was pulling speeds frowned upon. I like the MT09 brute force from zero which others don't like...thanks for keeping me waiting on the "But" :) - I may take one out for a spin.. Cheers RSMF-*RI* Mr B
Mr & Mrs B's Brain Dump It was perfect everywhere, it just did not have the wow/scare factor, for example, in second gear acceleration, the R would pop a wheelie, the anti wheelie will bring it down (eventually) and as soon it is down it will say sod this and pop another while at the same time you are trying to control the bucking beast, the xr just gets on with it and as if sayig: Is that all you got ;)
Ahh as I thought, same with the GSX-S, bikes with this much power should point skyward 1st, 2nd, 3rd + with a full twist. But I find more often than not, gearing and mapping has been 'tailored' to keep them 'safe' ?
Mr & Mrs B's Brain Dump I thought it was because the bike was new, you know when you do a top end rebuild you are supposed to 'break in' the bike, I just guessed it would control this with some advanced technology.
My thoughts exactly for the CB500f. I'm trying to find a bike I can afford (and ride legally) within the a2-class and the cb500's seems so good, but at least the cb500f is not exciting. For you maybe none of the a2-classified bikes are, but the cb500 is just not raw enough. It's sensibel and has enough power to get you around and if you make any mistakes it's sweetest bike and smoothes over it, but I want something that tells me when I make a mistake and rewards me the times I manage to do something good. Which is why the duke 390 seems liek the best choice. The only downside is itæs not good for long trips, but on 1-2 hours trip it should be ok and that will at least cover the daily commuting. What do you guys thing? Do you ahve any suggestions for what bike to choose? I haven't driven the cb500r yet, but underneath it's basically the same as the cb500f. Just more expensive and with a higher insurance- But it is more exciting than the f.

Hi rj. Regarding your thoughts on the xr was the way i felt about the r... Lovely bike, did everything really well (i test rode one) but did nothing for me. Bought a z1ooo instead which i love. Although i do love the exhaust note of yours!

For you perfection is boring for others who want and need only one bad ass motorcycle in there lives the s1000xr is perfection.
Sounds awesome for a stock exhaust !
Wow.. your last sentence was extremely true and poetic. Not only regarding to the bike, but to everything. RJ is a real philosopher! :D

It's got a better turning circle than my Z1000 it doesn't sound happy on closing the throttle it looks a low seating position was there any vibes.
Hi RJ, which do you recommend more the S1000XR or the Honda Africa Twin?
+robrides Two completely different bikes IMO.
Hes right. Even though they look to be quite similar, the africa twin is more of a adventure bike while this can be classified as a dual purpose. This one is probably better since it is a bmw hahaha
robz-adventures the Africa twin is significantly slower. 😉
Ridden both now and see the large scale difference. Not sure which I would pick for my usage
Loved this video! Great thoughts on the bike
Saw one of these at South Ealing yesterday looks the part
Gorgeous bike!
Is your speedo in miles or kilometers? Because to me it doesn't look like you drive 100km/h (60mp/h)
Thank you for the great video. I would like to request a review of the BMW R1200RS if possible. Your review videos are some of my favorites :)
Hey RoyalJordanian, have you ever ridden a KTM Adventure (990 / 1190 / 1290)? And what about the R1200 GS? I know you like sporty engines, but what do you think of them?
Not the KTM's, but rode a GS for an entire day. Nice bike but not for me.
I saw this at the Tokyo motorcycle show.but I think I'd rather try the R
how do you have effectively no wind noise at all? my gopro sounds like im going 500 mph constantly
Could you do a video on the muiltistrada
Wow didn't see that conclusion coming!
Would like to know how the XR compared to the 1290 SA S. Also, is that a STOCK exhaust?? >.>
Epic! Thank you RJ.

"Driving" an M3 vs. "Riding" One !!!
;)
RJ, I noticed that look towards the S1000RR, can we expect a test ride or perhaps a new bike in the garage? and as always, ride safe.
HCG Kyle I think RJ won´t buy a S1000RR because a supersport bike in london is way to uncomfortable.
MrLol400 the s1000r is very similar. What would be uncomfortable? I commute daily on a Yamaha R6
Great vid as always - I love that bike and will have to add it to my never ending bike shopping list - once I move house :)
RJ what could you say about handle bar width and it's height from the point of view London traffic lane splitting?
korshm Width is fine, height is excellent as it towers over car mirrors.
That's your new bike RJ ?
I saw one 2 Days ago and i think its a pretty nice bike
