We sometimes lose sight of the great people of the 20th and 21st century and then come back to realize what a great singer and vocalist Dusty truly was. I was younger when she was popular, yet I and many others find ourselves enjoying her music and voice even more today. Thank you Dusty.
Song brings tears to my eyes. My first love moved to Canada when I was 15..this song came out right before he left. What great memories it brings back, we were reunited 40 years later. Thanks Dusty for the great songs you left behind RIP
#2 in 1967 Even back then, music was still great. We were lucky to have singers like Dusty!!!! No copycats here. Just Raw talent!!!!! Love & Miss You!!!!
I was 17 when this song hit and HIT it did. A lot of us youngn's may have liked the Beatles, Stones, Jimmy Hendrix, The Doors, etc. but we LOVED Dusty and especialy this song sung by her way back then. RIP Dusty and I know you're singing in Heaven...
A truly great British Singer. She had a beautiful voice, full, deep and that gave meaning to every song she sang. Too bad she is no longer with us and most of today's singers do not hold a candle against her.
what a woman...perfection...there will never be another...no one can ever come close...this generation has miley cyrus and lady ga ga...they just have no idea...love you and miss you dusty....
wish i was alive in the 60's. this type of music was a revolution. voices like dusty don;t come around often! LOVE this song and i was born in 1989 as well!
what a legend! rest in peace dusty, I doubt you shall ever be forgotten. She had such a good range in her voice and her words were soo clear. Dusty may have gone before her time, but her music will live on forever, R.I.P.
Wow...this is timeless. No remix, fake audio manipulation and the likes. Just pure voice and emotion. I wish I could time-travel and listen to her perform. Encore.
Such a wonderful voice, and one brave and beautiful lady. When she went to South Africa on tour, at the time it was forbidden by the government for a white person to perform before a black audience. Well, she promptly gave a concert to a mixed audience in defiance of that law. The government promptly deported her back to England, threw her out of the country. She knew what it was like to be the subject of blind hate and discrimination and tried her best to do something about it in the only way she knew how. One very brave and remarkable lady. RIP Dusty.
Thank you for this share Bruce Edward. I've always loved everything Dusty her voice. I was thrilled when the Pet Sop Boys introduced her to a younger Generation, including Dusty in their hit. "What Have I Done To Deserve This" Pet Shop Boys. She was fabulous! As Always.! She as brilliant inside as she was beautiful and talented outside. Kudos Bruce! Great post!
wonderful - those arm movements - that incredible voice - the 'band' - that cardboard bass drum - love it all!!! dusty set such a high bar that it was around 40 years before another british female singer of equal talent emerged. (cheers amy). RIP dusty - you are remembered and revered.
Dusty Springfield is Extrodinary!! What a Voice. Fantastic. She is Beautiful!! The Songs are Memorable they take you back the best time the 50- 60's to grow up Remembering these Iconic Songs. Jean Mooney
I'm glad that Mad Men has opened peoples eyes to real music and real singers. Dusty Springfield was always wonderful and anyone who loves this should give her other music a listen.
Remember this great song like it was yesterday! Who can ever forget that rich ,soaring & beautiful voice of Dusty Springfield and how well she animated on stage with her hand movements !! We do still miss her .RIP Dusty!
i miss her, she was one of the best female singers ever, she lives through her songs. Never a day goes by that i don't hear one on her songs. She touched so many lives, *To You Dusty, You were the best*
Awesome singer when there wasn't good white female singers she had SOUL,THE VOICE, CLASS,and she broke barriers, that anyone can have SOUL, I miss her performances, blessings to her family at her loss.MAY HER VOICE, soothe the WRATH OF GOD (RIP)😎RC💝 🎈 See you in heaven.
'You don't have to say you love me, just be close at hand. You don't have to stay forever I will understand. Believe me, believe me I CAN'T HELP BUT LOVE YOU!! ---The most powerful lyrics ever composed for the most powerful song ever!! God Bless you Ms. Springfield!!!
Dusty always seemed to be on Saturday night British TV in the 60's and early 70's, whether on Cliff, Rolf, Lulu or Cilla's show. As a kid, I never quite realised just how powerful and soulful her voice really was. Very much of it's time, bit schmaltzy, but every bit a classic.
The irony is that Dusty gave so much to so many through the songs she sang, but never found what she was really looking for in her own life. when she was on stage though that was an escape from her own world, i'm glad she shared it with us.
Dusty has a very powerful voice. There are singers of today with talented and powerful voices. The problem is today's songs are terrible and they don't allow talented singers to display their voices. Watching talent shows such as American idol or the X-Factor contestants sing older songs like this and for the most part do very well but when they win or get a record deal they resort to hip hop, rap, or some other kind of mumbo jumbo junk.
Joe G That is a spot on of todays display, and that is because they rely on the music of yesterday because it was produced with pure talent as the anchor. No smoke and mirrors or auto tune / studio wizardry, or 20 dancers distracting you from what you paid to see. Go and see a Gino Vannelli concert TODAY and you see the real deal....Pure talent. I just wished I could have been fortunate enough to see Dusty in concert live, she was and will always be one of the greatest female vocalists of out time, right there with Dionne, Barbra, and Diana.
+Joe G I pretty much agree with you. Lady Gaga, I guess, is sort of an exception in that she's lately been recording old standards with Tony Bennett. And, of course, she's classically trained. When she did that "Sound of Music" tribute last year, which was magnificent, I got the feeling that type of music is actually where her heart is, not the music that made her famous. But she is only able to sing those songs now because she's already established herself in the current music world and has earned the right (and power) to sing whatever she wants.
This is a really class act by a classy woman. In the 60's all guys dreamed of Dusty among others. She was a doll. Great song, exceptional video and love watching it. Too bad she's not around, you know even pushing 70 she would be a buzz.
What a song. Few songs get to me like this one. Dusty performed it magnificently. Hearing this song is one of the things that makes life worthwhile. Claude
God love her. Such style, class, and what a voice! I love absolutely everything she's ever recorded, as I'm sure you all do. Rest In Peace, our Dusty. We have your legacy. We have your voice. We still have you.
WOW! Am I ever jealous of you!!!! All those greats in one night! You don't see that happening anymore, as performers now would never have an opening act as great as Dusty Springfield, Righteous Bro's! Great post. Keep them memories alive...
Dusty Springfield was VERY talented + someone i've always enjoyed. She would have turned 83yo on April 16, 2022; 10 days f. today! Very sad she passed away so young at just 59 in 1999. 😞 Gone yet still not forgotten! 🕊️ Thank You for posting this!
Heard this on Mad Men, and immediately brought back memories of my mum and dad dancing to it - they've both been dead 20 years, instant and very unexpected sob. Music eh?
My eyes drops tears silently ... I miss you ... I miss your hug... I close my eyes and I feel you next to me, to look at you in the eyes and to tell you how much I love you ... To touch you ...and you whisper to me: "Give me a hug...." and I to lose myself in your arms ...
THIS SONG DONE BY DUSTY REALLY HELPED PUT PINO DONAGGIO SONG AND HIM ON THE ON THE MAP , DUSTY AND HER PEOPLE GAVE IT THE THE POWER IT DESERVED,, IT HAD TO MAKE HIM VERY PROUD AS A WRITER !....////
You really made the summer of 1966 for me....Alderson-Broaddus College...and ALL those memories from a time long gone. The German "Alle Meine Traeume" from the winter of 1966 in Austria is also very good and has the same amount of memories. Thanks, Dusty!
+Patrizia F. Excuse me, but I beg to differ: The music was written by Ivor Raymonde, british musician, songwriter and arranger - the lyrics by Michael Hawker. The song became the first hit in Dusty's solo career, and peaked at #4 in the UK singles chart in January 1964.
ollarik Oh no ollarik...this is not true. just do a search on Wikipedia, and it explains everything. The singer Dusty Springfield was present at the Sanremo festival in 1965 where he heard this song. I inform you that in Sanremo you can bring only new songs. When he heard this song, Dusty Springfield, she decides to make her his, and to record it once back in London. In its English version, entitled You Do not Have to Say You Love Me, the song goes around the world entering into the sales charts in many countries. The British singer claims to have it recorded in the stairwell because it sounded better. But the authors are Pino Donaggio and Vito Pallavicini. Pino Donaggio is a great author of soundtracks. The English lyrics I think it's Dusty same.
A beautiful song. Sung at the time by a beautiful young woman. i'm one of many thousands who think back to those days and wish that life could have taken a different turn or two along the way.
Great as ever Dusty, a far cry from...'It ain't all honey and it ain't all jam', I love that one, my dad was a cockney. Miss yer like mad lass, I hope I get to see you one day. R.I.P X X love yer like crazy. Ray♥
Yes, I remember this song well. I had a crush on this boy in my class. I was in the seventh grade in Arizona. Oh love at that age. This was always playing in the stores, all I could think of was him!
Wow!!! What a voice!!!. I remember when Dusty came out with I Only Want To Be With You in '64...I knew then that she was going to be big. Miss you Dusty...

What a beautiful voice, and a beautiful girl. There are no words to describe how she sang this song. "Timeless perfection." Dusty...never forgotten!
I was in 11th Grade when this Dusty Springfield song was released. What a lucky young man I was to live in a time of great music like this.
Song brings tears to my eyes. My first love moved to Canada when I was 15..this song came out right before he left. What great memories it brings back, we were reunited 40 years later. Thanks Dusty for the great songs you left behind RIP

One of the greatest popular singers ever. Great voice , full of heart!
Of all the singers who sang this song, no one but you, Dusty, stirs my emotion. You are the perfect one for it.
Elvis version is my 2nd choice!

Bruce Edward Thanks for this story. I don't know anything about her, just know the song. I'm glad when people post interesting info!
I didn't know that. Great woman!
Thanks for reminding me about Dusty, Sam Esmail.
Good remembers...

Fantastic Dusty Springfield
One of the few who dared to sing live in those days. Love her.
The MOST soulful British female vocalist ever. Underrated in her time - we never knew just how good she was till we lost her.
I'm glad that Mad Men has opened peoples eyes to real music and real singers. Dusty Springfield was always wonderful and anyone who loves this should give her other music a listen.
Beautiful song and beatifully sang by Dusty.
Dusty, unique so proud she was English, great Singer never see her like again. Thanks.
Anna Cottage she was Irish first and British second. Never English.
I was'nt quite 17 back then, but still loved it on first hearing. Her songs are timeless. Best British female vocalist ever, for me.
Remember this great song like it was yesterday! Who can ever forget that rich ,soaring & beautiful voice of Dusty Springfield and how well she animated on stage with her hand movements !! We do still miss her .RIP Dusty!
I always feel better on listening to one of the best female singers in our generation (I hope she is happy in the afterlife) RIP Dusty
A beautiful song. Love this version.

I really laughed at your comment because it was so true! Go Dusty!

RIP Dusty,
Class, beauty and the voice of an Angel.
Today's talent doesn't hold a candle to her.
That's real singing and real talent! something sorely lacking these days IMO...

To me, her use of gestures adds a lot over and above her admirable vocal delivery.

MAD MEN (season 5 ep. 1) brought me here:D
Dusty was the greatest female singer of the 60s - will be remembered for always. RIP.
thanks for bringing back great memories of a great singer gone but not forgotten
It was an Italian song title Io che non vivo (1965) by Pino Donaggio.
My moms favorite song...the 60s good times
such a great song with beautiful story, which brings me comfort knowing that if you love someone, just love him or her, don't try to be loved.
I salute to Ms. Dusty Springfield. She is still one of the best songstresses in the music industry.
This woman was the sixties!
also listen to the original version in Italian "io che non vivo senza te"
such a fabulous voice and talent!
Listening to Dusty is one time when it's great to live in the past.
My eyes drops tears silently ...
I miss you ...

I close my eyes and I feel you next to me,

To touch you ...and you whisper to me:
"Give me a hug...."
and I to lose myself in your arms ...

Gotta say, this song sounds a lot better than the mush we hear on the radio, and I'm 18!
