In India’s election there 970 million registered voters with a 66% turnout over a 6 week election period.
Honestly, it’s pretty impressive
yeah that's solid

Not too bad I guess.
But I suppose it also means that at least a hundred million people didn't bother voting.

The DA in South Africa gets most of the white vote but their base is 1/3 white 1/3 mixed and 1/3 black.
Also, while they're by far the most market friendly, I wouldn't call them libertarian by any stretch.
Not libertarian, just fully aware of the importance of small and big businesses to a country with massive wealth inequalities.
Agree
I'm glad you used the term mixed as opposed to the C word. 😂
@@Vilakazi no, there's absolutely nothing wrong with the word Coloured in South Africa. Everyone uses it including the Coloured people themselves. You really should stop trying to impose American norms onto other countries

Something to be said about a leader accepting a negative result without issue.
It's taken for granted in most of the western democracies. It's called being an adult.

It says that you're far more aware of the rest of the world than the average American.
From a South African living in South Africa, this is 100% accurate and essentially everything you might want to know regarding these elections.
As a South African, I can honnestly say, I have way more trust in our elections than in the US. As a Party observer, I've seen all the checks and within our system. Meanwhile, over in the US, you guys have a debate over whether voter ID should be a thing, which I find to be jaw dropping. Even in our poorest provinces, you have to show your ID to vote.
The one party that’s is for that- pays off the other party after the elections just for going with it
When the Democrats allow millions of people to pour into the country, deny there is "such a thing as an illegal alien," and then start suggesting that they should be able to vote ... don't tell me they're for free and fair elections.
So do we. I don't know any rational person who thinks it shouldn't be.
Didn’t you hear? Voter ID is rrrrrracist!
I have way more trust in South Africa’s elections too. It is only morons like Peter who really believe the crap that comes out of his mouth. What an idiot.
Its it sad that its newsworthy to report that a country accepted the results of its election
Well Jacob zuma actually called for a violent revolution because of the election results he said were “fake.” Interestingly his party outperformed all the opinion polls so idk why he was doing that. He got what he wanted which was making ANC lose the majority.
Thats what happens when our faith in every institution is destroyed
Because your side lost.
@@jackf1557 In case of India they actually have a respectable leader in charge, one of the few countries.
A quick search shows both India and South Africa do voter identification. Perhaps if the US followed suit they would have peaceful transitions of power?
Wouldn’t matter because a portion of one party (MAGA) refuses to accept when they lose. Even without evidence.
Voter identification, electronic voting, representatives of all parties and candidates present at the vote counting, election commission as an independent body from the government, Parliament and judiciary, full CCTV coverage of ballot boxes/voting machines till counting, making sure every voting citizen is incentivised and enabled to vote, independent judiciary, and a government and people/voters who are willing to take an L without being an offended p*ssy when their candidate doesn't win.
Many things to take notes, not just one.

0, voter id or Aadhar card require for voting. Govt database contains eye scan, fingerprint, photo id, current address, place and date of birth, parents, level of education etc.

As an Indian, Curious on why you believe Modi's mishandled the economy? I wouldn't say Modi is an economic wizard either but I think he is competent and has resisted populist measures. It takes California a month to count votes, maybe we could learn how to count from India.
It’s funny how MAGA says that, then wants to move to hand-counted paper ballots - proven to be slower and less accurate than machines.
Come back to reality and give yourself a shot at winning an election again some day.
Actually its done overnight in California after the polls close as 8PM. Very close races will be recounted to ensure the results and would take a day (or two). A very, very few very close races might be contested by a candidate and require a recount by hand and take longer, but they are very unusual. The California Secretary of State certifies election results about a month after the election, but that's more of a formality in this day & age.
@@crosslink1493Sure, California is a fine example of secure elections......😂😂😂
India has evm machines at every polling booth
Actually It takes press of a button to count votes
Still officers spend 10-30min checking and rechecking it cuz the concept is relatively new
ECI india website showed live results throughout the result day without any crashes too
@@cspaliwal_ The polling count also did not have unusual fluctuations (e.g. count suddenly dropping by large numbers) as happened in the US in 2020. Nor did multiple states suddenly stop counting (all at the same time) for a long period as also happened in the US in 2020.
I also remember the incident where people were watching (through glass) votes being counted, and some election worker put up a cardboard to block people's view for a full 30 secs. The public was simply told not to make a fuss about it and that they needed to trust that the elections and voting were most fair. Did such incidents happen in India?
I'm still waiting for Western think tanks to come out and say that they were wrong for saying India doesn't have any democracy left. They should probably lecture their own populations about democracy. :)

The ANC are between Scylla and Charybdis on this. Scylla would be the DA, who are fundamentally opposed to a number of the ANC’s unworkable policies on economic grounds, would force the ANC to tackle corruption and cadre deployment in an effort to improve national infrastructure and service delivery and thus possibly even ensuring the ANC’s long term survival.
Charybdis on the other hand would be the EFF and MK who have no interest whatsoever in solving any of SA’s problem and just want their turn at the trough. They will push for land expropriation (with no thought of food security) and nationalisation of mines which will effectively end FDI, result in the closure of the mines and loss of jobs. They would be the final nail in South Africa’s coffin.

So elections in the USA are the free-est and fairest elections in the world. So better than in UK, Europe, Scandinavia, New Zealand, Australia...?? What a ridiculous assertion. Those countries have independent federal bodies that manage the elections, and candidates that respect the outcomes.
Those countries also require in-person voting with an ID. But, the useful idiots like Peter will twist themselves into pretzels trying to convince themselves and us that the US has a semblance of “free and fair”.
But the fact that we don't have a federal body to manage the election means we have real federalism and real checks and balances in our system...... in a system with a top-down body all you have to do is corrupt that body to steal an election...... in the United States it would be basically impossible to steal an election without already being really close to Victory and having Total Control in multiple swing States.
Also Trump challenged the election results in legal challenges that he was entitled to make.
I understand that he was asking his lawyers how he could get away with doing more egregious things and wanted Mike Pence to not certify the election, but notice none of that happened.
The United States has the oldest functioning constitution in the world and is the first and original liberal democracy...
We have our problems but we're doing a lot right
He states “we have the most free and fair” right after “we could learn something from the other countries”. Illogical and stated with all the confidence of a liberal arts major. Without cross checked voter ID the US will continue to have corrupt elections.
I can count how many people live in the UK, New Zealand, Australia and Scandinavia with one hand. Europe has such great examples of democracy like Moldova, Hungary, and Belarus
America… is literally one country
@youarewrong5523 Dont really know what your point is with this, america just doesn’t have the fairest elections in the world. There are countries in europe and oceania with a much better track record. Just because a country has low population says nothing about how fair and efficient their electoral system is …
"That's something we could learn a little bit from" - said in his best Sassy Trump voice.
Voting in person in most of the world VS Voting in the USA without ID, absentee, by mail, by dead people, by machine, or by harvesting. That's the problem.

You are just a partisan, unfortunately the truth doesnt care about how you feel
Or an MSNBC cohost, maybe with Rachel Madow?
Lol peter points out trumps appointed election watch dog said election was fair and also points out trump failed miserably in court where he had to use evidence.
And maga takes a hit of copium.
"Not one shred of evidence." Wow, nice liberal blinders, Peter.
How about Tom Wolf, the governor of Pennsylvania, changing the rules for voting to "keep us safe from covid"? According to the US Constitution, only the state legislatures are allowed to make the rules for the voting process. Is the governor the same as the state legislature?
That's just one of a few dozen I saw, with plenty of video evidence for most of them. It was nothing but cheating.
Not only that but the libs kept changing the goal posts in 2020 as evidence kept mounting that the elections were fixed.
1. "It's not possible to fix the elections."
2. "There is no evidence of cheating."
3. "There wasn't enough cheating to change the outcome."
Each time they changed the goal posts they insisted Biden won, even though it was clear there was massive cheating, to make all previous Democrat cheating pale in comparison. It wasn't even close to a fair election.
And even if they were telling the truth, that there wasn't enough cheating to change the outcome, why no outrage at all over the cheating they did admit to? Where were the trials for the people who were known cheaters?
We shouldn't tolerate any election interference at all.
Remember when they impeached Trump over rumors of election interference and "Russian collusion"?
Pepperidge Farm remembers.
But no trials at all for the people caught on video actually interfering with the election.
Well said, good episode about elections
I am critical of most talking beings, though Zeihan speaks with proper speed & without missing a factual step, if everything was this perfect life would be simple....
Yeah,PeterZ! In India, they do NOT do Ballad Harvesting, NOR can one vote without an ID. NON Citizens are NOT permitted to vote. And they do NOT wait for weeks on recounting votes.
Why is that? Just asking...
So according to the logic of the left within the US all of India is "waycist" because they need an ID to vote
True, they don't do "ballad harvesting". Also, they don't have political parties sending fake electors, and Modi doesn't call state AGs and tell them to change the vote counts, or "this could go very bad for you if you don't". They also don't have a president that sends his army of dirt bags and traitors to assault the capitol and attempt to murder legislators. They also don't have fake news networks that lie about the results, then confess in court that they lied and pay $750m settlements. Unfortunately, the US has a lyin' sh*t political party that does everything it can to corrupt American elections, and a mountain of dirtbag voters who go along with it.
Becasuee Indians want a free and fair election and Demcorats in the US want anything but a free and fair election. There is NO other explanation for not requriing signature matching aand not making voter ID mandatory and banning mail-in ballots like the rest of the world does.
Not allowing “ballot harvesting” is a way to disallow those who can’t physically make it to the ballot box which is why the right makes the term a scary one for simple minded people. Voter ID cards are state issued when you turn 18. They have some areas of India that don’t have the means to confirm who is who without it unlike most of the modern world. Also Devi, Singh, Kumar and Das are the most common Surnames in India and make up of 150million of the population. You need some way of working through this issue. As far as NON citizens not allowed to vote in federal elections, nations don’t allow non citizens to vote in federal elections just like the whole of the western world doesn’t. On vote recounting, here in the states, someone has to put up a legal challenge first unless there is a clear anomaly. That wasn’t the case for us the last election. The other guy lost by 8million votes and didn’t put up a legal challenge until weeks later.
HELLO SAAR DO NOT USE THE NON-DESIGNATED SHITTING STREET SAAR
Mail in votes are soundly rejected by most of Europe and Africa, and by UN election integrity watchdogs. Electronic voting machines are also discouraged because they are black box systems which don't save time.
Fox was sued for what they said about dominion voting machines, they settled out of court for over $700 million because everything they said was a lie.
Democrats and Republicans used to agree on that, until they needed to get rid of Trump by any means necessary
Mail-in voting is (still) a thing because the US, uniquely among every other country in the world, has a shitload of its troops deployed worldwide, all of whom still retain the ability to vote (many of which do). It would be insane to ask every soldier stationed abroad to fly home and vote in-person over such a small time period. Doing so would pose an insane logistical challenge and a massive security risk ("When should we attack?" "When they're all traveling home to vote, of course!")
The US elctoral system is a clown show of fraud and Peter Zeihan is a paid shill for the Deep State which stole the 2020 election.
@@raconteur5195Lol no they didn’t. They always counted on mail in voting and both parties would push mail in voting because of the troops we had deployed. The right really used to love it because troops would vote for the right. As a matter of fact GW was the first president to say we need electronic voting machines after the 2000 election and both parties were on board. The only time the mail in voting and voting machines became an issue was when the toddler in chief got blown out in 2020 and needed something to blame it on. Lucky for him, his followers are simple minded and believe everything he says and even make up things like “democrats and republicans used to agree on this” lol
i remember how hot birmingham is this time of year. seattle summer are gorgeous and cool
Glad to see India has some "Centrist Weight" to keep things on an even but upward momentum.
I think it's important to address the causes for the lack of trust in our own election system in the US. For example why is there always pushback on voter ID? Why are we always being told voter ID is a racist policy? India being your good example of how to run an election DOES have voter ID, so why would there be pushback against that unless you wanted non-citizens to vote, or have individuals vote multiple times? These are the kinds of things that really feel off.
You're told it is a racist policy because it statistically diminishes turn out among demographics who are less likely to acquire and update various IDs.
I'm not saying you have to agree with that reasoning, but the reasoning isn't some kind of mystery or part of some nefarious voter fraud plot.
We have noted that voting by mail is ok when the Trump family does it and when the white, Republican state of Utah does it. Somehow it's bad to get away from forcing black people to wait three hours to vote. It's the double standard that people like to point out. Also, taking away the rights of the elderly and sick people seems bad, but I get it, Republicans *like in Ohio just last November* are pretty sure elections are only valid when they win.
Australia does not require voter id, but it is common for voters with names that are hard to spell to push over their driver's licence so the poll clerk can see how its spelled. (Last time, I had a guy who said what sounded like RIDS-COV-SKI. Turned out it was spelled RYDZKOWSKI. Glad he passed me his licence).
The point is, with photo-id driver's licences it takes just a couple of seconds to see that the person is who he says he is.
@@oldcynic6964 You have to understand that voting by mail is perfectly ok for white Republicans, but not for anybody else. At least that's the way it seems to work out.
Because access to ID isn’t universal, especially in certain states in the Deep South that have a long history of racial discrimination? Even today, these states only allow you to apply for an ID in-person and only on weekdays during standard work hours. You can’t do it online like in other states. Also these white Republican governments close DMV offices in black rural and urban areas. This is why we push back on voter ID. If republicans didn’t hate black people so much and try to disenfranchise them, no one would really care if you had to show an ID to vote. I live in a democratic run state that HAS voter ID. But obtaining an ID is so easy, and also our DMV office also allows you to register to vote there while you’re getting an ID.
Peter, you are correct it would be great if we, The USA, could learn how to run a clean and transparent election. WE ALL CAN AGREE ON THAT. Unless of course you like the last election.
Did you even hear what he said in the video? The US does have free and fair elections - we just have half the country that cries “no fair!” when they obviously lose.

As a general rule countries that inherited the British Parliamentary system have the most resilient democracies, a lot of the world’s democracies are using some form of the system, it just works!

@@RakeshVaidyanathan-dk1bb I don’t think that! I do think the British parliamentary system just happens to work, a happy accident perhaps. I give huge credit to the people of India for their strong democracy. I heard somewhere or other that India is at least 60 years ahead of China politically!
That is good news from India.
Running elections is hard. I am an election worker. A lot of people put in a lot of work to insure that you can vote and all the votes are counted. If you think there is vote fraud, work an election and point it out. But there is no fraud. Just a lot of work from civic minded people who work long hours for less than minimum wage.
"but there is no fraud" hahahaha well I guess we will take your word for it cause you put in some "hard work"😂.
The judicial system in the US is corrupt. Do not believe that the lack of going forward with the 2020 cases r/t voter fraud means the US had a clean election.
Ballot box stuffing, voter lists that aren't maintained, and over-use of mail-ins allowed the fraud.
Almost as secure as Athens, TN’s “Most Secure Elections” TM in 1946.
Yup and those poll workers are out there working hard accepting ballots that were harvested. Oh maybe some certain parties ballots were tossed in the trash on the way there but hey, who's counting anyway?
@@charliedontsurf334 great example. Only happened 78 years ago.
USA should use paper ballots, with your thumb print on it and official voter ID. Register if a citizen voted or not. Need way to check in a ranfom sample if there are non-citizens voting or someone voting as you. No voting multiple tines either. Should have vote count that night by say 10pm.
Paper ballots would take days to count and are far more susceptible to human error and/or manipulation.
I'm in Birmingham. How the hell can I get advance notice of your coming? As a huge advocate of your theories, I'd love to attend one of your lectures.
Seconded.
Wow I can’t believe I’m saying this but good for India!!
Peter, please educate yourself about progress that Modi did. Dont make beginers mistake of only referring to western media like BBC.
You are right. But Peter is inclined towards the state dept just like wapo, bbc. You can see their thought process in his videos. So, in other words they will never accept the progress Modi has made in his previous 2 terms . But will be first to call him authoritarian at the same time contradicting themselves by saying he accepted the election results like a democratic leader....🤷♂️
free and fair elections. Let's go free people of the world.
Peter gets some of his information from the cia lol 😂
Freedom per se is not a virtue.
Interesting
The question of election impropriety is not one of IF. It is a question of how much and what should we do about it.
We already know how much... inconsequentially small number of instances, which you will never be able to completely prevent in a voting system that operates under 50 different sets of laws.
Drop boxes inspire trust
Not
And no signature matching. And massive ballot count jumps (all for Biden) at 3am. And Democrat operatives papering over windows of a ballot-counting location so obeservers can't observe. And a little water leaks in a topilet that gets called "burst wter pipes" that cuase a ballot-counting location in Georgia to kick everyone out. And 5 key swing states all miraculuously stop counting ballots at the exact same time and take 3 weeks to publish their final results while EVERY other location finished counting the day after Election Day.

"Running elections is hard......believing in them is more difficult."......Amen. It is a difficult enough task to keep the public on-track and confident in the system given all of the foreign actor interference, but when you have a candidate rabidly spewing the enemies barage of nonsense, it makes it almost impossible. It is akin to the enemy throwing a grenade near your foxhole and a fellow soldier picks it up and tosses it into the foxhole.
Voting in person in most of the world VS Voting in the USA without ID, absentee, by mail, by dead people, by machine, or by harvesting. That's the problem.
In India, the results were very disappointing for the BJP as they were expecting to get more than 400 seats out of 543 but they only got 240 seats(272 to be a ruling) but still they have formed the govt with their alliance NDA with 293.
wait, 1Bn people India has only 543 seats while EU has 720 + national level parliaments on top of that? very impressive. competition for seats must be simply absurd tough to get votes.
It will increase in next parliamentary elections
The alliance was expected to get 400 BJP btw 340 and 370. If that was the case there would have been no opposition. Instead the Indian voter in their wisdom gave them a Comfortable majority with a powerful opposition.

You are delusional, there is no objective proof that the election was stolen and you know it.
Good luck convincing sane people of the validity of your positions.

Neither South Africa nor India have mail in voting.
Or electronic voting machines. Or have an issue with common sense voter ID requirements. As a South African, I have much more trust in our elections than theirs.
India has special cases for elederly people
So what?

"Democracy" works best when the candidates or parties running essentially support the same ideas with very little differences in other words and never when they actually are expected to respond to the interests of the people or nation.
What about "2000 Mules"?
The group who made the film, under oath, said there is no evidence of fraud. It was propaganda designed as a misinformation and disinformation campaign.
The production company lost a defamation suit and was forced to apologize for presenting fiction as if it was fact.
You fell for the grift. Selling “evidence” that would never stand up in court is a grift, and you bought it.
I take it India didn't have a bunch of votes show up in the middle of the night.
For the most part I agree, and then there's West Bengal state lol.
Trump shouldn't have convinced his own supporters not to vote early. Real smart there...
3:20 I think you meant recanted rather than recounted, which has a particular meaning in relation to counting the votes
How do they count their Votes... and do they have early/mail in voting?
There is nothing wrong with early/mail in voting. Republicans are losing Georgia because the cities are growing, and you can't stop that.
By hand, limited early voting on application to do so. South Africa.
Yeah, this country could learn how to count votes. You know, less absentee ballots, election day not election month, voter id, no voting machines especially with code that can't be audited, not countining votes for weeks after election day. That would go a long way for the people and candidates accepting the results.
India runs their election over two months...
That doesn't work when you have someone who says if they don't win, it is rigged against them and a large group of people willing to believe their lies. Hell, way back in 2016 Trump was saying if he didn't win the primary it was all fixed against him.
Please point out on the election machine where the bad people touched you.
Why the restrictions? No real election fraud had been found; mail in, absentee or otherwise. Sure a few mistakes happen, welcome to being human.
The greatest election fraud that has come to light to date (after 4 years for searching) has been the attempted placement of wrong people in the electoral college.
Did you notice the Indians vote over six weeks? Which would be necessary if they don't allow mail-in votes.
@@LewisPulsipher I think the US is a little more advanced with better infrastructure than *checks notes* rural India.
The US Constitution mandates that only the state legislators may set election law. Yet in the 2020 election a significant amount of states set election law via state judiciary and executive branch.
That's what happens when state legislatures either don't do their jobs or else act in ways that are counter to the Constitution or federal election law.
What company are you talking to in Bham?
Peter, please break down what CSDDD is (A new European law), and how it affects me as an American citizen. Thank you 🙏
Australian here: Just so you Americans know. The Australian Electoral Commission that runs elections in Australia sent a bunch of observers to America in 2020. That was nothing new or dramatic. The AEC does it all the time and not only sends people to America but all over the place. When we have elections there's Americans and many others who come here just like they go other places.
This happens all over the world and in most cases it has NOTHING to with catching cheats or interference it has to do with people *LEARNING HOW TO RUN THEIR OWN ELECTIONS BETTER.*
So there were 1,000s of foreign observers from all over the world in America in 2020 and *NOT ONE HAS SAID A THING.*
Its not just the American's who ran the election who said it was done properly but 1,000s of foreign observers also agree that it was one of the best run elections in human history.
Bro Aussie already smart enough to move voting day to a freaking Saturday versus a Tuesday as it is in the United States

Thanks for sharing. I didn't realize countries exchanged observers.
The concern and debate wasn't that the vast majority of polling stations throughout the US were following the proper procedures, but that a number of them in swing states were showing abnormalities. I can't imagine it's going to be nearly as controversial in 2024 because 1) people will be watching much more intently and 2) we don't have Covid and the resulting knee-jerk policies to hide behind and use as a justification to abuse the rules.
"The USA runs the cleanest elections" LOL ok
Damn Birmingham has no traffic 😅
I for one hope you found some great food while in town.
Free-est and fairest? Everyone in the world agrees?!?!?
Big difference between the USA and all these countries Peter always praises is that those countries don't allow mail in voting. ALL of those countries have said our election system is the most easily corrupted because of ballot harvesting and mail in ballots.
Every other country requires in person voting for the majority of the population. Most people participating in the foreign elections find it imperative and prideful that you participate in person.
So their overseas citizens cannot vote?
Probably the Trumpiest thing he has ever said.
Unless you've worked in the USA election system (I'm in California) and seen how tough it would be to forge a mail-in ballot. QR code and serial number on each ballot is unique, and the envelope it gets mailed in is unique and has to be signed by the voter under penalty of perjury. And all those codes are machine-red and matched before the votes on them are counted - any duplicates will have all copies rejected. If you fill it out wrong you have to either go to the County voting office to get a new one issued to you after surrendering the old one (and its envelope), or you can take it to a polling place on election day and exchange it for a new one. Its not 100% impossible to forge a mail-in ballot, but its very, very difficult.
America kinda needs mail-in ballots because America uniquely has a massive military deployed all around the world and all of those troops still retain the right to vote. To ask everyone to come back home during election time poses an incalcuable security risk.
@@Hannodb1961 trumpiest sounding maybe. Trump was the one of the first ones to sound the alarm on ballot harvesting and the insecurities of mass mail in balloting.

Normally I just watch the videos and move on. But when Peter said "no proof produced" I remember counties in Michigan, Minnesota, Arizona, and I think Nevada reporting that they had a turn out close to 100% with at least one county reporting over 100% voter turn out. Normally a presidential election will have 30-40% voter turn out. 45-55% is considered incredible. So to have more then 100% turn out is literally impossible. To have a turn out above 55% is so unlikely that it merits suspicion.
But "no proof" is a flat out falsehood. Tons of proof that something was wrong, just not sure for which party it helped.
I had to fact check this and couldn't find any evidence of that. Be more specific on where and when that happened.
@@mars7726 in the article the reporter claims that the numbers are false. But look up the court affidavit and you will see where the numbers don't make sense. In one county in Michigan voter turn out was at 103%. Any normal election cycle you will see anywhere from 30-50% voter turn out. To get above that is remarkable. To get 70%+ is so rare that it borders on the brink of lying. Remember the president with the most votes ever in history was Joe Biden. The second most votes for a candidate in history was trump in the same election and trump lost. 81 million votes for Biden. That is one third of the entire country. 78 million votes cast for trump in the same election. That means that 60% of all registered voters nationwide had to vote for these two guys. Normal turn out is 30-40% but somehow they both got roughly 30% of all votes each?

It's been a passion of mine to understand why some countries thrive and some fail after independence. My conclusion is it is a cultural commitment to the society and an ownership in it's growth that makes all the difference. Africa is littered with failed countries because the African cultural imperative is to enrich yourself first before helping others. Asians have the opposite motivation. That may sound racist but it is true culturally.
so, you are asian? 😂
1) Asia is not necessarily doing any better than Africa. Only three countries are economically "operational", with China and Japan having some serious deflation issues and Korea being the only healthy economy (until they run out of 50 year old engineers)... And you wouldn't like to live in either because they work 6 days a week, 10 hours a day.
