    Nice looking conversion I'm impressed you can get the motor to fit inside the bay and have the lid close correctly The exhaust is a little loud but i like the sound of it saying its a VW with some attitude LOL it always cracks me up because in the Subaru with the stock exhaust its so quiet but it sounds badass with the aftermarket systems as they always remind me of a exotic in the VW Bugs and Buses i hope one day i am in the position to do a similar swap myself although i would prefer a Vanagan or type 2 Bus

      LMAO.... im just glad i wasnt the only one who thought that... I was like WTF when I saw them and how butchered the welding job was. (let alone that the mesh was held to the outside of the hood instead of inside where it would have hid the shitty welds.)

    A Super Beetle has enough room in the trunk to lay the spare tire down flat in the front. Yours looks like before the radiator that your tire went in upright.

      Tony Cantu that was a temp. The good was replaced due to rust. The new hood had no holes. I just put a hole on the bottom under the front lip.

  • @-farang-la-fan

    When working out how to physically put he engine in, how does it connect to he chassis? Is there much modification to the baseplate/frame of the beetle? I’m looking at getting a beetle this year for a long term scooby conversion project.
    Also, are you running the stock gearbox? Not sure I picked up if you mentioned it in the video

    • @TheOtakuphill
      @TheOtakuphill  5 років тому +3

      Depending on which motor you get will only effect how much of the body you need to cut to make it fit in the sides. The motor bolts to the adapter and is supported by the transmission just like the beetle motor via the adapter. Only that mod to beetle is wiring, longer gas peddle, and radiator setup.

    Looking at doing the ej204 since it has about 170 hp range from the 03 to 09 legacys. Assuming the transmission adapter you listed below might work? is it a similar fitment?

    • @TheOtakuphill
      @TheOtakuphill  6 років тому

      The adapter works with all the Subaru motors from 80's to 2018. Also works on a h6.

      By any chance did you make a parts list for either swap? I would love a copy of you did. It has been hard to find any parts or documented processes to see what I need to do. I have just been told it is rather easy with no product of what to do lol

    All the air rushing in as you go along have you an exit for the air?.

    • @TheOtakuphill
      @TheOtakuphill  5 років тому +1

      The rear of the spare tire area is cut to allow air through. I also have a small sheet of metal on top of the radiator to help force the air through.

    @pierreduplessis1507 6 років тому

    Did you do any cut work too fit the motor?

    • @TheOtakuphill
      @TheOtakuphill  6 років тому

      Pierre Du Plessis that depends on your setup. If your using a ej22 with stock ecu you can cut the firewall like I did to fit the intake. If you have the money you can buy a throttle body reverse or if your using a aftermarket ecu you can turn the intake around.

    • @pierreduplessis1507
      @pierreduplessis1507 6 років тому

      Phillip Cooke im bought a 2lt ej20 motor as its cheaper too buy. Dont want too cut into the firewall. Rather spend the extra money on a new throttle body.

    • @TheOtakuphill
      @TheOtakuphill  6 років тому +1

      Pierre Du Plessis honestly I wouldn't waist my time on a ej20. you can get your hands on a phase 2 ej22 from a 99+ cheap. It has better power and it will help you with the wire harness in the long run.

    • @pierreduplessis1507
      @pierreduplessis1507 6 років тому

      Phillip Cooke thank you. 2.2ltr is the route i should go? Going too use a stand alone ecu. Should i brace the gearbox and motor as im going too use it as a daily?

    • @TheOtakuphill
      @TheOtakuphill  6 років тому +1

      Pierre Du Plessis make sure you get a phase 2 ej22 a dime a dozen at the salvage yards. Easier to find than a phase 1 if you have issues. My phase 1 ej22 blew a head gasket after a year and I end up having to find a EJ25 phase one because it's extra money and different wiring on phase 2 motors. Phase 2 also opens it up to more powerful motors. I ran a stock trans and motor for a over a year without issue. You should be fine.
