  • Making a custom leather tool pouch. There is at least one more piece to add to hold a tiny screwdriver I like to carry, but this pouch will work like it is.

    Well done! Both the video and of course the tool pouch you made; you're a real pro buddy! Exactly what I was looking for because i'm involved in many different trades (sometimes all on one job) that has me needing to carry a multitude of different tools in my hand held bag. The bag i purchased is nylon but the pockets are all sloppy and don't hold the tools correctly so I plan on making some leather pouches and adding them to the interior of the bag. Great job!

    Awesome pouch! I might try and make a version for my tool belt as well. Love the vacuum bag idea to form it. Brilliant! Thanks for sharing.

      Thank you. It has a few issues.
      My next one will have a few changes. The stripper/needle nose bit would last longer with double stitches or rivets. The screwdriver loops could sit a little closer to the pouch as well.
      Other than that, I like the design so far. It has been really comfortable.

    I came across this video while looking for tool pouch patterns. Looks like I could carry everything I need in that. Do your wire strippers or needle nose ever fall out? Personally I would have had the leather cover up some of the handles as well, but I imagine that this way it’s still useable if you change the tool to a different one.

      I never had an issue with the tools falling out... I have since moved up to a newer pouch, but I still keep this one around for work at the house.

      @@GPWoodworks good to hear. I might wind up doing something like your crossbody one, or a really small one I can clip to my belt.

    This is awesome! I would like to make one myself. Where can I get the some of the materials and tools you had in the video?

      Tandy leather and Weaver Leather both have tools, leather and other supplies. They both offer premium as well as economy lines of tools.
      Amazon has some very affordable tools... the less expensive stuff doesn't last as long or work as well as the higher priced stuff... but that is true no matter where you shop.

    What kind of threading do you use for your stitching?

    • @GPWoodworks
      @GPWoodworks  3 роки тому

      In this video, I used this:
      tandyleather.com/collections/supplies/products/tejas-waxed-thread-132-yards
      But I have switched to tiger thread:

    Can you tell us about this particular leather you're working with?

    • @GPWoodworks
      @GPWoodworks  4 роки тому

      This is generic "run of mill" veg tan leather. I can't remember the weight but it was probably 6-8 oz.

    Подскажите пожалуйста, чем в конце обрабатывали сумку? Наверноечтобы кожа не впитывала влагу и служила дольше?

    • @GPWoodworks
      @GPWoodworks  Рік тому

      Я обработал маслом. Это смягчает кожу и делает ее более прочной.

      Thanks & one more question where do you get your leather from

    • @GPWoodworks
      @GPWoodworks  5 років тому

      I have a Tandy Leather nearby. I usually just buy what's on sale.
      I don't make money on these usually so I need to keep the costs as low as possible.

      When molding how long did you let it sit for

    • @GPWoodworks
      @GPWoodworks  5 років тому +2

      I think I let this one sit under pressure for about a half an hour (I can't really remember for sure). Then I let it air dry on the mold until it was completely dry... I think this one took a few days (maybe even a week).
      It was a year ago, I may be remembering these details incorrectly.
