  • The ABS light was on and was getting an 09 code, hydraulic pump circuit failure. Found information that the control module circuitry goes bad. Cannot get just the control module at part stores and I wanted to avoid messing with replacing the whole ABS pump and manifold because once you take a brake line loose from the manifold, it is nearly impossible to get the line bled without paying a mechanic to hook up a computer to bleed the ABS pump. Went to a local u pic u pull and got just the ABS control module for 15 bucks. Works as it should after installing the replacement and no ABS light shining on the dash.

    That makes it simple! - Appreciate the video. So I guess you do not need to program/re-program that module? I saw a video on the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and that one had to have the module programed to the vin. I have a 2003 that I think the ABS module may need to be changed (Or BLED) as I think the PO did some brake work. I have a mushy pedal, even after changing all calipers, rotors and pads. I also changed the Master Cylinder, and installed after a careful bench bleed. I have brakes, but still mushy, and too much pedal travel. When I depress the pedal while driving, it sounds like the ABS is engaging. You can hear that rapid piston rattle sound, reminiscent of ABS engaging under the hood. I am guessing its just a bleed...

    Dig the casual no stress approach to repair and eye on costs. Well done! What were your warning lights or DTC's?

      It's not my daily driver so I can't tell you much other than the ABS light stayed on in the dash. It seemed to drive okay when I drove it. Put my code reader on it and 09 came up for hydraulic pump circuit failure. It rains here a lot so I wanted the ABS pump to work.

      I'm going to attempt repair on a 07 Aspen - likely almost identical module. In my case I have all brake lights on: ABS, traction and stability control...

    It is so convenient in comparison with Jeep ZJ (5.2/1997), where screws from bottom. I've troubles with ABS but all wires/sensors are Ok, I'm going to open that next weekend.

      I opened it (...rather broke it), soldered contacts, warmed it up with a heat gun, filled it with a compound (instead of a lid). The error is gone, ABS is working. :)

    I recently had my abs light come on while driving in some snowy weather. Im hoping its just a blocked abs wheel sensor but Im reading up and preparing for the worst in case it doesnt go away.
    Did you disconnect the battery before swapping the module?

    Surprised that metric spanners fit here.
    My jeep uses imperial size 3/8s on break bleeding nipple.
    Just wondering if it my jeep will be imperial all the way.

    Do the part numbers have to match? I saw several on eBay and many didn't have the same numbers but the plug was correct for the same year model.

    • @alansunday
      @alansunday  Рік тому +1

      I truly don't think the part numbers have to match as long as the size and connections are the same for that year model. Good luck!

    Must you disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. I have seen a replacement part with the #5602791AC..Is this a fit for a 1999 Jeep Grande Cherokee with the 4.0 in line 6..Everything looks the same except the larger of the two connectors.

      Hey. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Didn't get a notification and just saw your comment. I Google d your part number and didn't find anything. It's similar to one of the part numbers in a previous comment on here. I did not unhook the battery, but you can as that can also reset the OBDII code.

    my abs light went on and i just took the bulb out .you got it my brake light appears now are they related?

    • @alansunday
      @alansunday  4 роки тому +3

      Normally the ABS light deals with the ABS computer part of the brakes. So anything like a sensor at a wheel or the ABS computer will be something wrong there or the ABS is not pumping the way it should. The brake light coming on deals with things like the fluid level in the reservoir to the parking brake not being released all the way and partly still engaged to a brake sensor at the foot brake. The two don't normally coincide.

      13mm for the air box and E5 for the control module.

      My abs light comes on along with the brake light when I start the car and the speedo doesn't work, all I have to do is turn the car off and back on and they clear? Happens a couple times a week randomly. Should replacing the module fix this as well?

    How did you do a bleeding process after replacing abs?

    • @alansunday
      @alansunday  5 років тому +4

      As long as you do not bother the brake lines, no bleeding required. That's why I did this video to show you can change a bad control module without messing with the brake lines and pump.

    You have to reprograme the computer

    • @alansunday
      @alansunday  5 років тому

      Brakes still currently work as they should since this video and never had them reprogrammed. The antilocks work as they should and don't lock up the tires when slamming on the brakes and also no codes come up with the code reader. I've been told that if the module is brand new, it should be programmed. This one out of the junk yard currently works with no problems.

    For any that see this, on older vehicles, put dielectric grease in every connection(light coat on both sides). That will protect the connection as well as make it easier to disconnect in the future
