Apple doesn't usually make mistakes but I think they did here. Customers are too overwhelmed, confused, and sometimes mad looking to find the right one for them.
The convenience of being able to pair and charge the Pencil 2 on the side of you’re iPad is the killer feature for me. The lack of pressure sensitivity means that only students will ever use the USBC one for me
sigh if only Apple came out with usbc when i got my ipad and pencil. im a student and uses the 2nd gen one; if usbc came out in the past i cldve saved a 100!!!!
hey, it seems like you know some stuff! Can you help out? So I have like the Apple Pencil it’s says hoco on the side, is it not supposed to have the usb
I don't need any of the features of the apple pencil 2, but having my pencil always be right next to my ipad, not to mention it's always 100% charged, that's all I needed to buy the pencil 2. I don't even use the pencil that much, maybe once or twice a week
I tested it out and loved it so much, the way it feels in the hand is superb... but had to change to gen1 because of pressure sensitivity and I have ipad 10 ;-; it feels SO MUCH WORSE
no pressure sensitivity is ridiculous unless you aren't actually drawing with it in which case I don't even see why having it is necessary other than being a glorified fancy stylus
Just get the 2nd gen one, if your iPad is compatible. It’s not a huge jump in price from the 1st gen one, it has way more features, and it connects to the iPad on the side magnetically, where it also charges. It’s just way more convenient.
@@xXmlgamingXx355 False. You cannot plug directly a 1st gen Apple Pencil to any iPad compatible with 2nd gen Apple Pencil. 1st gen Apple Pencil only has male lightning plug while all iPads compatible with 2nd gen Apple Pencil only has female USB-C port.
As someone who loves to take notes on goodnotes with the 2nd gen. The pressure sensitivity might not matter to me but believe me the double tap feature is something that you need. Its a crime to reach for eraser tool everytime you need it. With double tap the experience becomes more seamless.
1st gen cap is easy to lose, but 3rd party sellers quickly made little silicone hats for it that have a tether that goes around the body of the pencil, so it’s attached while charging. Also made a holder for the original lighting to lightening adaptor that wraps around the charging cable.
I noticed those on Amazon, but pretty sure they obstruct the pencil from going into it's designated slot in cases. There are also plenty of magnetic cap replacements if you lose the original. The cap literally doesn't do anything except sit there covering the lightning port, so imo it sounds like a good alternative.
If the new apple pencil is cheaper and connects the the tablet you have go for it , you are missing pressure sensitivity in the end of the day though, If you are a artist go with the first or second gen
Apple is usually really good at defining what each product is for, and creating a clear price tier of products. The naming schemes also tend to be pretty straightforward, without a bunch of numbers and letters that dont mean anything obvious. But this is really, really weird. I think this Apple Pencils main purpose is just to be an Apple Pencil with a usb c port, just so that they can say they did it. Its not good value even if it is cheaper, because pressure sensitivity is a massively important thing for doing any sort of art with it. It sits in a weird position of being sort of in between the first and second gen, but also worse than the first gen. If it had pressure sensitivity, itd be a perfect replacement for the 1st gen. But the lack of sensitivity is such a big problem it means id never be able to use it.
I'm still holding on to the 1st gen. Even though they just announced the Apple Pencil Pro with great features. The 1st gen has everything what I need. Except hover support. That the only feature I wish it support. Since I use it for drawing.
They really realized that 3rd parties are starting to hurt their pencil sales with cheaper, yet still decent alternatives, so they just made a crappier pencil for $20 cheaper than the OG pencil, which they've NEVER given a price cut! They're wild RN!😂
Exactly. I have two differing types of China made pencils which function just like the USB-C, and they came with the charger and spare tips too. Each cost below 20 USD. I’d be crazy to buy this USB-C Apple-branded junk
I would say for $79, most people would not mind the pressure sensitivity or wireless charging. They just need the basics. Nothing to complicated or confusing.
lol but any fake on Ali express for 20$ can do that. Only thing they lack is pressure sensitivity. That's whole reason people was buying originals cuz of the pressure.
I have always wanted a second gen pencil, got a new iPad. If Apple can make it so that the phone detects whether someone is near to it, they can make it so that the second gen is compatible.
imo just buy 2nd gen. Yh it's more expensive but it lasts forever and just doesn't leave anything left to desire. And it just feels like an extension of the iPad so isn't annoying
Lovely video...keep up the great work! 👍 It would be fantastic if you could make a similar explanation about the different AirPods generations in the future :)

since the 1st gen says Air 3rd gen only does that mean the Air 4 and 5 are not backwards compatible? Yes I know it uses lightning, but what if I use a separate lightning charger to charge it?
I think the apple usb-C without pressure sensitivity is about the same as the apple pen alternative, so I chose the $9.9 YEBOS pen, which is great value for money!

Gosh, I have the 1st gen and it never gave me an issue. I mean, is there really any reason to upgrade other than if it stops working? Kinda think Apple is fragmenting this part of their portfolio.

Ive had the first gen apple pencil for about 4 years with an older iPad, I then upgraded to the 10th gen and continued to use the gen 1 pencil. I really like the feel of the gen 2/usb c compared to the gen 1. The fact that I have to use a stupid dongle to charge it and that it doesn't magnetically connect is a killer for me.
