10 years after video is made = 1000 hp LS and HEMI crate engines. Supper cool overdrive, but the price is pretty high. The good thing is if it can take 1200 hp it must last forever in 600 hp street car.
I didn't realize this unit could be used as a split shifter. If only it had another lever, like the Advanced Adapters Ranger unit. It's expensive enuff this GV is priced more than my old truck is worth. Too bad. I like the concept.
@MrJohnnyDistortion At 9.5:1 compression, cylinder pressure is not high enough to require the use of such a "high" octane. 93 octane isn't high, but its also not necessary. The heads aluminum construction matched with an efficient combustion chamber thwart detonation. After the optimum octane for a specific cylinder pressure is reached, any higher octane will reduce power output because high octane gas burns slower. However it does offer a nice buffer, and more advanced timing can be run.
@madtownmadman What do you mean exactly by a heads alluminum construction and an efficient combustion chamber?Because to me it means the same thing.Keeping in mind the 3 points that you mentioned, head construction, efficient combustion chamber & advanced timing with higher octane, what combo or combo's would be best or taken into consideration above others for street performance?I'm assuming there would be quite a few?Thanx for the interesting info to ponder.
But yes, very expensive. Mine has a 208 Ford transfer adapter. To go to my Dodge is an 850$ adapter. However, my Dodge used a 208 transfer case. Not sure what the difference is between Ford and Dodges 208s, besides one is drivers drop, one is passenger. But I will find out!
The aluminum allows heat created by combustion to be dissipated faster. Very useful when trying to avoid detonation, as heat is the enemy. The efficiency I speak of comes from the shape of the combustion chamber and the postion of the valves and spark plug in the chamber. All BBC have canted valves, tremendously aiding flow. But earlier designs have open chambers and poor swirl characteristics. Dealing with that brings more challenges into the mix, when building a motor. A book could be written
I see many touting the Vortec heads. Are there SB heads that are favored?Again,I ask strictly for street performance use in a 350 hp engine that may have a turbo or S-Charger introduced later on.Thank you again for your knowledge and allowing me to pick your brain.
"no body has built a more powerful crate engine" There are a number of LS9 crates that would easily out preform a 572 big block crate. Though a LS9 crate engine is triple the price and has vary fue aftermarket options..
@@alainsstreetmachine 😵 people say I should switch to an 4l80 because the cost but if I can just add this with the th400 still accelerate hard like a six speed think I’ll do this instead
my 521 big block ford has over 11.5 to one compression with iron heads, i run 92 octane in it...granted it doesnt really like it =D...lol, but it hardly pings at all with cenex 92 in it, its cenex 92 or 100 octane avgas. With a procomp distributor and cenex 92 it probably wont ping at all, i just need to put it in.
@madtownmadman This engine may need it and not run properly on lesser octane.I'd rather spend the extra 20 cents per gallon than cause harm to an expensive engine.Wouldn't you?Just using my common sense.Better fuel or holes in your pistons? You decide.
He is WRONG! You have to push the button 6 times, not 3 each time u shift to a gear, push the button to go out of OD,wind the car out then hit the button again to b in OD. DO this for each gear I just installed one
Hey David This is kind of misleading cause those gear vendor overdrives are for one driveshaft only. How are you going to do some serious rock crawling with a two wheel drive? When your burning around in your bush buggy I noticed only the rear wheels are spinning.
US Gear over/under drive that's how. They are both the same planetary gears just reversed to give over or under drive. Bolts in between transmission & transfer case (rated for 35,000 lb gross vehicle weight) It can be used the same as a split rear end. So your 4 speed could be driven like a 8 speed (or a 5 speed depending on when you use it) Only way to use a gear venders for 4x4 is a divorced transfer case. They are largely used for drag racing & don't have as high of a gross vehicle weight rating
I remember watching this on tv and it looked modern, now it looks vintage like 1995😂
Crazy to think that I just 12 years all the high HP cars have around 650hp with automatics or dual clutch transmissions.
800hp demon.
"Mega shifter", sounds fucking biblical

If you're pumping 93 octane into a 9.5:1 motor, you're more than likely throwing your money away.
I'm no genius but he should be able to run 87 right. Or I'm I retarded

93 octane so you can run 9.5 to 1 with aluminum heads? Would think 93 would handle 11:1 w/ aluminum heads?
Too bad those overdrives are so expensive they are 2 or 3 grand right?
Unless you find them dumped at a scrap yard, than you pay so much for pound. I got mine like that.

Can't use it rock crawling because u have to be going 35 or more for the pump to work.

Hey help me out . I need a replacement rear differential 3rd mender for a 1991 Toyota pickup truck

@ 4:00 "tail shaft" ?
This video was posted in 2010, however this episode of "Trucks" was aired no later than 2005. Did the LS9 crate engine exist in 2004 or 2005?
No. Not until 2012.
I remember the 572 back in 2002/2003
"no body has built a more powerful crate engine" There are a number of LS9 crates that would easily out preform a 572 big block crate. Though a LS9 crate engine is triple the price and has vary fue aftermarket options..
@MrJohnnyDistortion 91 would be more than enough. 89 would be adequate. And I'm sure it wouldn't detonate even if 87 was used.
Do u have to get a shorter custom drive shaft made??
Yes, you need to get a custom driveshaft made.
Yes
Can you split gears under hard acceleration?
Yes, you can.
@@alainsstreetmachine 😵 people say I should switch to an 4l80 because the cost but if I can just add this with the th400 still accelerate hard like a six speed think I’ll do this instead
I can never take these shows seriously. Where's the dirty grease? Where's the shady tree?
deadballo The dudes hair gives the show credibility.
I'd pick this any day over those "pimp my ride" show things...
700r4 stage 3 can handle that 572?
No
Can I put one on a 4.3 Chevy v6
I put one on my s10 with the 4 cylinder iron duke so I imagine it would work with a 4.3

John how do you like the gear vendor so far. I have one I'm installing in a few weeks
You don't have to ever activate overdrive in normal driving.
"mind boggling" lol nowadays that's about average
What potato was used to film this my god
nice potato cam...

The 73-87 Restoration Shop " Keepin em on the road " the same way you take a 2wd trans an make it 4wd put the t case behind the of unit

too much gushing
