I'm way to observant of my equipment, to force it to try and work at 1400rpm, which below its proper operating rprm.
@@michaelbarnhill2685 ok. Thanks. I’m thinking about one and was hoping 5th over would work in loaded. It would mainly be for towing though 4th over to save the 5th gear nut and 3rd over to help with the wide spread of 4th. The 12 valve makes it’s power a little lower and is happiest below 2k. It can do 1300 in 5th and be happy gets it’s best millage around there. but adding more gear might be a different story. Where I live speed limits are no higher then 90 which is like 55. We do about. 65-70. Thanks a lot.
@@chevy6794 12v's are happiest between 1800-2200rpm.
Anything below.1500 rpm, and you are lugging the engine.
They idle around 800rpm,, and redline at 3,000.
That puts your usable rpm range between 1500-2500rpm.
And your most efficient rpm range, at 1800-2200rpm.
You, as the driver, are happiest below 2,000rpm...because the engine and trans is loud as hell once you get over 2,000rpm.
Your subconscious is cringing inside, at how loud the engine is, and its telling you to shift waaaay sooner than the engine/transmission actually want to be operated at.
@@michaelbarnhill2685 fair enough.
You should do a video shifting 1, 2, 2od, 3, 3od, 4, 4od, 5od
B&L Enterprise I have the same set up in the same truck and you don’t want to be going under 40 and use the splitter
This video covers exactly what you asked for.
Shifting into all gears, both with and without the clutch.
As far as the other comment, about not shifting below 40....that is absolutely retarded.
GearVendors specs to not engage under 20mph, as the driveshaft roatiation speed powers the hydraulic pump inside the GV.
@@michaelbarnhill2685 and also not being in OD while using compression braking or an exhaust brake, the cone style OD holds power really well but not while slowing down and if you do it will tear up the friction material.
@@harlandixon3453 why would anyone be engine breaking in overdrive in the first place?
You are correct, when engine/exhaust breaking....you turn the overdrive unit off.
Because they may not know any better, It is not like the overdrive comes with much of a users manual. But I love mine, no complaints so far.
Did you need to get a different driveshaft?
Just put one in my truck today, yes you need to get your drive shaft shortened
Just curious, how's your GV holding up? I just bought one second hand because I can't swallow the $3,500 price tag plus a custom driveshaft and install 😅
Update?
