Cool moment for sure one of the many things that makes baseball great. But I'm disappointed that his teammates didn't give him the silent treatment, not sure I could have either.
Any parent who has gone down the baseball journey with their son knows exactly what they are feeling, at least to some extent. A solid decade of pure commitment from the player and his family, half or more of each year on the road in tournaments, nonstop practices, all of the emotional ups and downs and sacrifices made, all coming to a head at one moment. You can just see the pride he has for his son. Very special.
Well said. And even when after all that time on the road in tournaments was spent and you're exhausted and the end of the journey doesn't end in MLB, the journey and time spent with family and friends was a prize in and of itself and some of the best years of our lives.
@wasntme7845 I've spoken to people that had a daughter play in competitive fast pitch softball and it's the same - only their "MLB" is landing at a D1 College, so the experience is the same - even when your kid doesn't land a D1 school or the Pros. It's an intense tournament circuit that is at a demanding pace.
That made me shed a few tears. Not a Phillies fan and I don't know who this young man is, but what a great moment. Congratulations to Wes and the Wilson family. Kudos to the announcers for a wonderful call and commentary.
Congratulations Wes. I watched it yesterday and I'm crying again today. Dad stuff really gets to my heart strings as my father has passed and I now have a 4 y/o boy. Incredible moment.
Wes hits his first career home run during his first ab. Nick Castellanos hits his 199th and 200th career home run, and Micheal lorenzen throws a no-no during his first start as a Phillie in CBP. You can’t write this stuff. What a magical night in Philly. ❤
It was a very magical moment for Fans, Players and family members. Michael Lorenzen was awesome throwing a no hitter, Weston Wilson first homer was a magical moment! Go Phillies!
It was so amazing. Wes' family going nuts was great enough, then Lorenzen making all of Philly even more proud, and there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a home run. And so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame
Gets to play in the big leagues for the first time, gets to hit a homerun in his very first at bat in front of his family, and he even gets to celebrate with Bryce Harper a 2 time MVP, when he gets back to the dugout, thats a special moment
Always great to see this. Blue Jay rookie Davis Schneider hit a Homer his first AB days earlier in Fenway in front of his family and set a major league record with 9 hits, 2 homeruns in his first 3 games. Love seeing this special moment shared with family members.
This is very emotional for me. Thank you Dad for playing catch with me and my brother even if you just came home from a hard days work as kids and for always being there at our little league games rooting for us and for being proud of us we love you Dad and we miss you so much
i have a ball from him and i went to one of his games!! i remember going in nashville and sitting next to his grandpa.. he told me i could get a ball but i had to leave early.. so instead of just a ball i got a note and everything on the ball and a note away from it. i’m so glad because i spent 2 years saying “why isn’t he in the major leagues yet” and now i see this!! i will forever keep that ball i got :)
Can't imagine what it would be like raising a kid, taking him to all the little league games. Watching him in HS and everything. Then to see him live out his dream and not only that, but Homer his first at bat. No wonder dad cried.
@@Mr_CAM0 What kind of family life did you have that would make you believe this father just wants to get rich off his child? Did daddy not give you enough hugs as a child? What a rotten thing to say.
I saw that on TV. Now I watched, again, a year later. Still brings tears. I just know how his family has been following him, taking care of the business of life, as he pursues his dream. Even if, he never has a good career in the majors, this moment last a lifetime! This from a long time Pirates fan! Congrats to Wilson, and his family!!!
Yeah, that gets to you all right . All those years supporting your child and being there to help get him to this point and seeing that kind of result is just unbelievable .
The baseball grind just to make it to the majors makes a man out of any blue chip kid and humbles them daily along the path. That’s why this sport is so unique, the men who succeed in it have been through the mill of self doubt, financial insecurity, disappointment and perpetual hope. The father’s tears were s deeply heartwarming moment of joy knowing his son had made the most of a beautiful opportunity and also reassurance all those hours playing with the boy made his dreams come true!
As a parent, we can attest to the success of our children. It’s what you work so hard for over the course of many years. Then, you see something like this and you can’t help but feel such a sense of relief . It’s an emotional relief knowing your children will make it. I think teachers feel similarly when they learn of the success of one of their students.
I don't even watch baseball, but I love when a player hits a home run on his first at bat in the major league, especially when they show the family's reactions.
Congratulations young man… I listened to you speak after the game and your humility is inspiring 😎👍 have a long, healthy baseball career… you earned it
This is an amazing young man and family. They have had their share of struggles and lead lives of service and humility. If you need a athlete to root for its not just Wes but his entire family. They are Tebows without the hype. You want to have a better more fulfilling life and feel a spirit you will never forget. You need to spend time with the Wilsons.
Anybody else catch Casty’s kid showing up in all these highlights? Obviously his dad when he hit his HRs, during this HR, when Wilson later stole 2nd, with Lorenzen’s family at points. He’s like the unofficial ambassador to the team’s families.
I celebrate these victories and only wish I could have bestowed such amazing feats upon my father when he were still alive! Bless you Wilson family, very happy for your joyous occasion! 🙌🏼
I'm sure your Father is extremely proud of you. Just because he's not here physically, doesn't mean he doesn't still watch out for you. He's proud of you. That I can almost guarantee 🫂
Congrats to Wes, that was a big 429 ft home run for his first in the MLB. The Phillies just keep getting better now that they have Bryce and Lorenzen, and if Wilson can have a good rookie season they could be even better. Good luck to Wes and the Phillies
I hope that little girl gives him that ball. I know it’s a wonderful thing to catch one like that but he deserves that ball! I’m not even a baseball fan but that was awesome!
I don't know how many pitches that guy saw, but the fact he hit his first homer in his first at bat on an off-speed pitch is amazing. Normally they're probably looking for a heater.
I always wanted to give my dad one of these moments but i decided to drink and party too much at a division 1 school . Every time I see these , they hit me hard
I am sure Wes Wilson will come back to this video to show to his kids and grandkids. what a valuable piece of history for him!
Lol
Not to mention it was also Michael Lorenzen's no hitter
@@jakekrueger7854 and they sold 4,500 nachos

would've been cool if the dugout had given him the "silent treatment" after he finished rounding the bases 😂
I don’t care who your team is, every fan of baseball needs to celebrate these moments.
yup, i’m a marlins fan but damn this was awesome to watch
Reds fan 🤙🏼 I agree with you 100 percent.
Mr Wilson is an inspiration to anyone and everyone!!! 😊
You just took the words right out of my mouth. The true baseball fan doesn't care
Cool moment for sure one of the many things that makes baseball great. But I'm disappointed that his teammates didn't give him the silent treatment, not sure I could have either.
I love his father's reaction because any dad worth a damn would be doing the same thing. What a night to be a Phillies fan.
many of us dad's are smiling watching his dad's reaction. We can all relate :)

Liam Castellanos was also everywhere and hugged both Wilson’s wife and Lorenzen mom….. he’s the real mvp tbh.
It was a very magical moment for Fans, Players and family members. Michael Lorenzen was awesome throwing a no hitter, Weston Wilson first homer was a magical moment! Go Phillies!
Problem is it happened in Philadelphia. Disgusting
@hahahajackmyswag Sounds like a personal problem. Get some help for that.
