I have 20k~ hours in video games. Was a massive part of my childhood but once i stopped playing them, i realised i actually wasted my childhood. Video games were my escape from problems and provided a safe haven for introvert oddball me but to the adult me they wasted my childhood to the point where I'd become very frail and underweight with no talents. They were the best and worst thing that happened to me
Personally I also played some video games, totalling in maybe 2k hours of playtime across all games. I played a lot of minecraft but seeing as I also did other things and played sports, my experience have been it wasn't really a waste. Entire last year I played bedwars 16 hours in total. After a long break I recently found it fun again. It's a waste if you play too much, but in reasonable amounts I'd say it's a good thing

I stopped playing (League) over seven years ago and the nostalgia still hits every now and then. I feel no desire to actually play, but will sometimes watch a video or two and reminisce. And you're spot on with the muscle memory; I played for some days during the pandemic and it was right there, exactly as I left it, excitedly waiting for me like an abandoned puppy.
Your videos are real. the way you talk about your topics is just straight forward, and that's exactly what i needed. I play video games myself a lot. I know I got addicted a few years back during the pandemic. I had a hard time in school and lost a couple of friends due to me changing schools. My escape was video games and since I found so many new friends, I got lost. It got to a point were I wasn't really in control anymore. My grades were still good, but my discipline and focus on achieving something later in life were nowhere to be found. I'm currently building up habits and trying to improve myself. It's not easy, but I really want to achieve it. So I think I can do it. I know if I suddenly make myself stop playing at all, to get away from the addiction, I'll just go back to how it was after some time. I tried that two times and it didn't work, I guess it's called "jojo effect". So I will do it in smaller steps. Thank you for some real advice, I know I can do better :)

Ironically there’s a video game I know that has the same message in this video. At the very end of the best ending in undertale, one of the characters tell you to put down the game and enjoy your life. Because if you keep playing for hours and hours trying to get every single detail you didn’t actually get the themes of the game.
I remember when my friends and I played minecraft for about 2 weeks then quit and continued this cycle over and over again. Moving on to other games then coming back. We weren't even having fun, it was just a huge time killer that could have been spent doing better things. Also, congrats bro you're about to hit 11k subs. Keep up the great work.

I find my case curious... I'm 17 and when I was 11 my nostalgia about songs and stuff that was part of my childhood was quite strong and right now I just don't feel anything at all. If much, I feel reluctance towards those things that used to give me nostalgia.
Nowadays it is very hard for me to fall in love with something that I know is not good for me. I wonder why...

I think theres a difference between endless games of minecraft bedwars giving you instant dopamine, and letting yourself truly be influenced by one. I do agree that games like the ones you are describing are bad for you if you don't balance it, but that's the same with anything. My personal experience with video games is jrpgs - big stories, inspiring music and worlds, important life lessons. A lot of the most invaluable lessons i have been taught have come from video games like that, and thats the difference between harmful "addicting" video games and experiencing games as an art form in the same way as books as films.

I love your videos bro, I actually relate to them a lot, and I learn a lot of important things about life through your videos. I used to be a hugeee gamer I remember when I would play for hours and hours non-stop and how my parents would always get so mad. Looking back I've definitely wasted a bunch of time from it, but it was really fun. Today, from time to time I would play for a bit but not much because I don't have anyone to play with and it got boring because most video games are super repetative. I've also matured a lot from not playing video games and I've focused on other goals/important tasks instead. Right now I'm starting to fix my confidence and everything that will make me into the best version of myself. It's pretty tough to find productive activities that I can do for hours and hours without being bored but I'm getting there. Videos games used to be my escape from whatever issue I was faced with, if I was mad, sad, or bored I would turn to video games and it would give me this gush of energy and excitement that made me forget about how I felt. But as time passed I slowly got bored and video games took up a lot of time so I slowly stopped.
I still personally play video games, although not as much as when I was younger, because I still have some interest in it as a hobby because of the interesting gameplay, but I can see how detrimental it can be when used as escapism.

I only played with Wii in my childhood and that is one of my precious memories, to be honest. I do think it was important to me, because I was about to share this moment with my mother and my brothers. I do remember almost all times I've played like Wii Sports, Kirby Epic Yarn, Mario Party 8 and Just Dance 4 & 2014.
I don't own a Wii or any kind of console anymore.. I do have a notebook where I have a few games from Steam but never actually got the motivation to play? Which is a bit weird now that I have this autonomy to buy and play. Although it is also concerning, due the fact I used to watch gameplays/youtubers more than actually take action of playing. It is just like you said, it is all nostalgia

When I was at your age, I never got to play video games, so as an adult, even though it might sound counterproductive, I still play on my free time. Story driven, single player games are so chill, I don't think it was a waste of time
19 and haven't played a single game in my entire life too, I'm in the time window between finishing highschool and beginning college so i have a bunch of free time which i was thinking on starting a game or two. The same single player ones I've watched my brother play growing up.
But i have a horrible habit of finishing something as soon as a i start it so I'm afraid once I go in it's a matter of time before 12 hours have passed and I'm still playing the game. How do u deal with that?
@@shaili_i Make a list of something to do for a day, for example do some chores, go to the gym or watch or learn something new or a skill and you must do those before playing a game and limit yourself to 2 to 3 hours of gaming per day.
But there are times that you cant control yourself. Like there are days that once you wake up, you play your game. And you took more than 3 hours, just remember to limit yourself, dont get too addicted, get out of your seat and think of the things that you need to do. You can also divide your gaming time. Like 1 hour in the morning, 2 hours in the afternoon. Sort of like that.
I'm not completely in agreement with Ruff but he comes with a lot of good points. But kudos to him for having a mature mindset at that age. Right now, in a sense, i am successful and i still Play games because it's a hobby that I'm passionate with and love doing. But still i go to the gym almost every day, do things productively and have good enough sleep
Just my advice, enjoy youth and don't deprive yourself of the things that you enjoy or will enjoy. Entertain yourself and don't forget to socialize with people as connections also build something for your future.

I was an only child and rarely lived around other kids. So all I had was my PlayStation and myself. Here I am 22 years old still spending most of my free time I spend on the Xbox while trying to work out and get fit and save money. Yeah like you said.. I can do it but I’d be better off if I didn’t play the games everyday. I know I need to let go of the Xbox and the games but it’s really hard for me. I’m going to try to get on less and touch grass more. Love your videos man

I quit 2 games (out of the 10 i played in my whole life) and im happier now, i don't have to search for that non-exsisting nostalgia.
I’ve spent a shit ton of time wasted playing mobile games as a kid since I was just a socially isolated cuck. But now I have purpose and have a life to work on (even still as a lonely cuck lol) but I genuinely still love to play games on my PS at short times in the month where I get to rest and see the progress I’ve made. It isn’t necessarily a bad habit if you limit it as you focus on what matters more in your life if you truly can get something meaningful out of video games. For me it is a sense of beauty, calmness, and excitement as I love to play action-adventure single player story games.
Anyways, this video has been a huge help for me to understand my past and my addictions and I hope to see your channel grow and your progression as a UA-camr as your progress from this video’s upload was absolutely incredible.

I have spent LOTS of time on videogames but I won't ever consider them a regret or a waste of my time because ever one of those hours made me into the person I am currently.
Would I continue playing videogames? No but do I regret playing videos games and do I consider it a waste of my childhood? No and No.

Yeah you’re right bro cause a lot of people waste time right now I’m not really playing and have unplugged my console for about a few months besides one point in arcade last month.Nowadays i just exercise and building up the habit of studying and then drawing.
Yeah for me I don’t think I’ll be playing games that much anymore maybe when I’m retired or on a rare occasion but right now I’m going to prioritise most of my studies and creative activities. I think now I’m gonna try to find my connections in the real world and not depend on video games.

I still get giddy from Mario Sunshine. The tracks, the gameplay, and the escape of being in paradise/tropics. Unfortunately I those “happy” memories to when my parents argue. Literally just the other night, my friend just booted it up and I got super happy, but even when I was kid and to this day, I stare at the main menu and just smile. I smile cuz I’m escaping to be somewhere I can feel pure serotonin (or so I tell myself) when in reality [in my head] I just replay the moments of my parents arguing and I run to Mario sunshine and turn the volume loud. And even when I was with my friend I turned the volume up loud and he looked at me like it wasn’t loud enough or audible I should say. I couldn’t straight tell him why I was blank staring at the menu (cuz I didn’t fear getting clowned on, feared more abt him asking deeper questions)

Big minecraft hypixel duels guy a couple years ago, left the game. Never turned back after a rather tough breakup with a girl I loved who was also a gamer. Minecraft nostalgia double hits sometimes, but I know im on a much better path, becoming one of the best men I know, but minecraft, especially hypixel, hits sometimes

I've quit video games a year ago, that was such a great decision.
here's my perspective on this
big gamer here too with thousands of hours in minecraft. some of the fondest memories of my entire life are in an smp with my online friends. we did like 6 smp seasons lasting a few months each. this was during the pandemic so we were really enjoying ourselves guilt free with nothing else to really do.
now i'm kinda burnt out of gaming and haven't really enjoyed it since this year started. my discord friends complain that i'm always offline but i'm not even doing it on purpose. but i think i know why this is
there's a lot of irl stuff going on in my life right now, and i've been kinda using gaming exclusively as an escape. it's like gaming isn't a leisure hobby anymore, it's a coping mechanism. of course i'm not gonna be excited to hop on and play video games with the homies when i'm not here to actually have fun, i'm here to just distract myself from the many problems that need my attention right now. because of this, over time i just kinda lost interest in games, and also a bunch of other hobbies i had. i had like a period of apathy that lasted for a few months earlier this year.
i remember when i first downloaded osu i was literally on it for hours a day having so much fun. i honestly wish i could go back and relive that experience. but now i log into the game after a tiring day and click click click on circles for like 20 minutes and hop off. wtf? i had no fun, i literally just wasted 20 minutes. i literally have hundreds of hours in this game and the bulk of that time was me genuinely having fun, but now i just can't anymore because it's not a hobby anymore. i've reduced it to a mere distraction and sucked all of the fun out.
i'm gonna use this little loss of interest in gaming to just stay off of video games for now and kinda force myself to face the problems i use gaming to distract myself from. and then hopefully one day i'll boot up my pc not to distract, but to genuinely have fun with my friends again.
