What could be more exciting than a first birthday? Two first birthdays!! My twins turned one and you know I went all out for their smash cakes! I made my favorite vanilla cake but this time as a two layer cake with nice mega-fluffy layers and then covered it in a simple but delicious strawberry buttercream and of course I had to top it with beautiful buttercream roses. Sorry boys, you're getting pink cakes!
UPDATE: Milk and sour cream should equal 1 cup or 240ml.

I made these for my twins’ third birthday, and I hereby dub you the baking king! Lol this was the absolute fluffiest most delicious cake I’ve ever baked. It’s not too sweet or dense. It’s light, airy, and just perfect! I made it with the egg whites and I can’t tell you how perfectly they turned out! Thank you so much! Now I’m going to cry bc my babies are turning 3! 🥲
I find these videos so relaxing even though I have never baked or decorated a cake I feel like I wanna do it.

Preppy Kitchen Oh yeah! Many parents just bake a simple cake, throw some frosting on it, usually chocolate bc it makes the mess appear worse for pictures 😉, And the nicely decorated cake is reserved for the guests.

Have you tried adding freeze-dried strawberries to the buttercream? I put it through the food processor first. The buttercream has a different texture than if I add jelly. I enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the great work!

Galen Kerrick , I purchased the Wilton strips after seeing them being used by Preppy Kitchen and absolutely love them. Can't believe I didn't know of their existence (and I've been baking for many years!) and they work. I'm in Australia and paid about $25 AUD for a pack which contains two strips.
I made my own and it made a huge difference !

Okay! So I used these amounts in your recipe to make 2 9 inch cakes. My cakes are still not as fluffy as I'd like them to be. They are a little heavy and I wish they were just more airy and lighter. BUT they are super moist!

La torta de San Sebastián here is were they make a cheese cake that when you cut into it is very creamy. Hopefully you can see there cheese cake on UA-cam hopefully you can break the secret. Preppy Kitchen so ideally you want to eat whole unprocessed foods. So no grains or dairy but things in place of it like almond or coconut flour and coconut milk. There’s even coconut sugar!

Oookkkaaaayyyy. This is exactly what I made for my daughters smash cake. Except the frosting didn't look like yours at all. It tastes like straight butter. I followed your recipe to the T. I had that nice "marshmallow-y" texture after taking it off the heat, and then I beat it until I got a soft peak. Once I added the butter it got super liquidy and then once I finished adding all the butter, it looked like whipped butter. Exactly like butter, to the point where it was sliding off the sides of my stainless steel mixer. Where did I go wrong?

I cried when my aunt pushed my hands into the cake. Her daughter was happily eating the cake with her hands, but I didn't want to get my hands dirty! At least that's what it looks like I was thinking in the home video from eons ago...
