I have watched this video like 15 times in the past week because I wanted to make this for my sister's birthday and i wanted to get it right. She got a job at a local dairy queen last year and had many,many compliments from customers saying she cooked the chicken to perfection.She was working second shift,after school and was saving for college. She had turned 18 a few weeks before December. Early last December,she was driving home after work late one night. Less than 4 minutes from home,she wrecked and died.I still don't know what caused it. I got an alert for this video and decided on a whim to watch it,I haven't been watching many things since December. I found myself smiling and even laughing.Your sunny disposition and cheeriness while making your videos has brightened my day.My youngest who is 9,sat down and watched some of your cooking videos with me. This is the absolutely the best vanilla cake and buttercream you will ever taste! I made this as a sheet cake (13x9). It took about 5 minutes longer to bake. I made a little less frosting than the recipe - using only 1 cup of butter and roughly 4 cups of powdered sugar. This was not the overly sweet buttercream most of us are used to. This is much softer and melts in your mouth. FANTABULOUS!

I love making your recipes so much, John. Every recipe I've done is superb and fits my taste perfectly. It's so sad that I can't attempt this vanilla cake recipe. There's something about butter in cakes that throw my taste buds off. Cakes made with butter literally taste like pancakes to me. Not that I hate pancakes, it's just weird that it tastes exactly the same.

Here it is written out! :) (I wrote this it isn’t copied + pasted) 2 1/2 cups- flour (put in a bowl) 3/4 tsp- salt (add in) 2 1/4 tsp- baking power (add in) 3/4 cup- butter (beat till fluffy in a separate bowl) 1 2/3 cup- sugar (add into butter mixture) 3- eggs (add into butter and sugar mixture, one at a time) 1 tbsp- vanilla (add into the mixture above) *combine the two mixtures adding 1 cup of the flour, salt and baking power mixture into the wet mixture (try and make everything room temp)* 1 cup- buttermilk (add into the wet mixture as you are combining everything) *I used regular milk as I didn’t have buttermilk* *measure and pour into your tins that you are going to cook in* *If you are using two tins, there should be about 600g in each* *cook at 350 for 30 mins* Just in case you can’t sit through the whole video! Hope this helps! :)

Let me just say that this recipe is the best and the cake is perfection! The crumb is beautiful and tender, so much so that I didn't have to cut it to be sure, you can feel it by just touching the surface. Also, it did not dome but baked quite evenly even without doing the fabric strip around it, so I won't have to do any shaving in order to frost it. When I say the cake is beautiful, I really mean it. I am sincerely impressed, hats off to you John!

I love making your recipes so much, John. Every recipe I've done is superb and fits my taste perfectly. It's so sad that I can't attempt this vanilla cake recipe. There's something about butter in cakes that throw my taste buds off. Cakes made with butter literally taste like pancakes to me. Not that I hate pancakes, it's just weird that it tastes exactly the same.

Here it is written out! :) (I wrote this it isn’t copied + pasted)
2 1/2 cups- flour (put in a bowl)
3/4 tsp- salt (add in)
2 1/4 tsp- baking power (add in)
3/4 cup- butter (beat till fluffy in a separate bowl)
1 2/3 cup- sugar (add into butter mixture)
3- eggs (add into butter and sugar mixture, one at a time)
1 tbsp- vanilla (add into the mixture above)
*combine the two mixtures adding 1 cup of the flour, salt and baking power mixture into the wet mixture (try and make everything room temp)*
1 cup- buttermilk (add into the wet mixture as you are combining everything) *I used regular milk as I didn’t have buttermilk*
*measure and pour into your tins that you are going to cook in* *If you are using two tins, there should be about 600g in each*
*cook at 350 for 30 mins*

Swapped buttermilk for 1 cup milk with 1 tbsp lemon juice, used Crisco instead of butter (had none), and man, these were amazing!!! 🎉🎉🎉 Keeper! Made 24 cupcakes. Bake for 15 mins instead. 🧁

Let me just say that this recipe is the best and the cake is perfection! The crumb is beautiful and tender, so much so that I didn't have to cut it to be sure, you can feel it by just touching the surface. Also, it did not dome but baked quite evenly even without doing the fabric strip around it, so I won't have to do any shaving in order to frost it. When I say the cake is beautiful, I really mean it. I am sincerely impressed, hats off to you John!
I made this recipe this weekend for my family and they loved it. I've tried many vanilla cake recipes and, quite honestly, I was ready to be disappointed...but this really was a great vanilla cake recipe. The taste AND texture was lovely.
